  • Roti Canai is very much loved by Malaysians from all walks of life. Dipped in dhal curry, this flat bread is a culinary delight.
    www.nyonyacook...
    'Roti canai' is such a delight to many Malaysians. I call it the Malaysian croissant! It is similar due to the flakiness of the layers of oiled dough. It is especially delicious if it is freshly made and dipped in curry dhal or fish and chicken curry. With this simple tutorial, you can have authentic roti canai any time you desire. Fret not, although the flipping process may appear tricky, the recipe is actually quite simple.
    I have practiced making roti canai multiple times. I must admit it was a mess when I made it initially. However, practice makes perfect as I improved over time. There is no shortcut to creating this flaky and crispy flat bread. Plus, it would be fun flexing your muscles while flipping the roti canai. All the effort will be paid off once you see the result of your hard work. You will feel a sense of pride and joy over your accomplishment!
    Roti canai is delicious when dipped with curry dhal, fish or chicken curry or even sugar. It can be eaten plain as it is. Top it up with a cup of teh tarik or your favourite cup of beverage. You are bound to love this official breakfast choice of Malaysians.

      Not sure about you but I ended up needing an extra 100-200g of flour as the dough was too sticky. I am seeing recipes with your measurements using strong/bread flour while others use 400g of plain flour to 200ml of water.

    • @EezeeListen
      @EezeeListen 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Or buy some kitchen scales :))
      Your conversion to cups is just about right (so many tolerances in plain flour, wholewheat flour and so on - I just weigh it all out now).
      Are you in Ireland? - I am in West Cork.

      Hope you enjoy the roti. Ah, you are so lucky to live in Malaysia - I am sure you are able to buy so many lovely ingredients for cooking. Over here in Ireland, there is almost no "ethnic" foods or spices. I am 1/2 Indian and I miss using fresh spices like curry leaves, fenugreek leaves as, for some reason, these are banned by the wonderful EU from being imported. Even a coconut is VERY hard to find in shops!!
      Have a good day :)

      What?? Those spices is very important! How come it has been banned :( have curry plant at the backyard huhu so whenever i want it i just pluck the leaves :D Yes, all things you want is available in Malaysia hihi so easy. Anyways, don't be sad okay! hm Ireland, i have a dream, i want to further my study in Ireland. Wait until i finished my A level 😜 You too, have a nice day! Glad to know you :)

      it definitely was, but after a few attempts and ripped doughs, i kinda got the hang and feel of it , it was fun and i was surprised.. if u cannot flip it, u can use a roller to flatten it thin and it comes out just as good. but remember, every pro roti slapper was once a baby, practice makes perfect!

    HI. Love your presentation and your style of keeping things simple and clear. I am a great fan of roti canai and have tried different recipes over the years. I had a go with your method and it turned out really well. My family loved it and say its almost like the real thing. The only thing I changed was to use strong white flour which I understand has more gluten and would give more elasticity when stretching. Thanks again.

    The fact that you stayed away from eggs is exactly why I love this recipe better (I'm allergic to them). Thanks! But why wait till the next day after applying the oil? I was hoping to make this in the next few hours.

    This is exactly like the street food you get in Srilanka. Well Srilankan cuisine is almost same as Malaysian.

    When preparing a rotti canai, 1st you need a lot of working space. Next one, DOG SHOULDN'T BE AROUND!! my dog ate half of my dough when I answered a call
