Something that attracted me to the s5iix is the color science and what comes out just has such a nice filmic look. I have quite a bit Canon investment but those Sigma lenses and the Lumix sensor is otherworldly and now part of my staple.
Life long Canon user still in limbo trying to figure out next camera because Canon closed non-3rd party lens system. If I could afford to blow a bunch of money I would, but Canon has pretty much shut many of us out. As much as I've loved Canon lenses and ergonomics over the years, I can't in good conscience buy another Canon product.
While you can't get ProRes recorded *in camera* on the canon R5/R6, or external SSD recording, by using the atomos NinjaV you can get ProRes recording on an external SSD. (That being said, I own a lumix S1, S1H, and a canon R5c, and have a S5iix preordered).
What I would like to know is how to the stills/video (DSLR style) cameras compare to real video cameras when it comes to making video. Nobody seem to directly compare these two styles and I would really like to know how the new stills/video cameras are coming along because at one time they simply could not match dedicated video cameras.
They are not comparable because the dedicated video cameras have much smaller sensors for a similar price range. You can't get a full-frame sensor in a video camera for $2500
It doesn't mean much. Years ago All-I was important because computers had a tough time with IPB and also bitrates were pretty small. But now, either your computer CAN play back video or cannot. The difference between All-I and IPB for playback is almost 0. As for image quality, I shoot IPB LIght and have compared to ALL-I and there was 0 difference. IPB on Canon cameras is already very high bitrate and going to ALL-I doesn't make any difference even when zoomed in to 200% (no idea why you would even want to).
Can lumix please make a full frame landscape photography friendly camera that is like a compact rangefinder? I already have the sigma fp but I miss the lumix ui and I loathe the fact that mirrorless cameras are ridiculously bulky these days and the ideal camera for me being a Leica m11 is something I just can’t afford

are there any camcorders that can do stills to rival this?...if you like this camera , but also want wildlife or sports type shots, what would you recommend?
So I wouldn't need a video capture card to record to OBS Studio on my PC with the S5IIx? I could use wifi/USB/ethernet - depending on the quality I want? (Or maybe the bitrate is low via those connections?) Thanks Tony.
Hey Tony, just out of curiosity, why didnt you compare this to the Fujifilm X-H2 or X-H2s? Is it just because of the sensor size? Because to a newbie like me they look pretty similar on paper, the X-H2s also has 6.2k open gate recording with Apple ProRes HQ, full size HDMI etc. all for the pretty much same price, did I miss something? :)
X-H2s has less rolling shutter and 4k120. But the S5 IIX will have better low light and better dynamic range in the shadows. That's the tradeoff you generally make between sensor sizes at similar price points, smaller sensors can usually be read faster (or in this case the smaller stacked sensor is about the same price as the regular full frame sensor) and the larger sensor will basically always have less noise and usually more dynamic range, too.
I bought Used stuff from Adorama before and had to send the latest device back due to missing parts with the package. It was a hassle for sure. I have purchased other devices through Adorama before and it was 50/50 on the gear. All those devices are good products, but I am moving away from Nikon and Canon and going with Lumix.
which sense do you recommend for shooting 16:9 but also want to crop in to 9:16. Some lenses are wide but too wide. Is there a lens you recommend that is good for both aspect ratios?

The A7IV has highly crippled/cropped APSC 4K60 only! Canon has FULL FRAME, OVERSAMPLED 4K60 on the R6 II ... something you cannot get on any camera in the price range (arguably the best of any camera at any price range, better than even the R5 and A7SIII). Very few people who buy these cameras will be using HDMI ports anyway as most record internally.
@@truthseeker6804 Both the A7IV and Panasonic are poor choices. Both the A7IV have TERRIBLE rolling shutter and cropped 4K60. Meanwhile the R6 II has full frame, oversampled 4K60 and the best/fastest rolling shutter performance of any full frame non stacked sensor aside from the much more expensive A7SIII (which is crippled to only 12 MP for photos).

Off topic, but do you think the Canon R5c is worth it? I never really hear much about it. Also, are the files difficult to edit for someone who doesn't have a super expensive computer? I love your content. God bless.
The r5c will be complex if you're not used to Cinema features and terminology. But the files are super easy to edit and don't require a powerful computer to edit
The FX30 and FX3 are great but are seriously lacking, considering they are "cine" cameras. Way fewer video assist tools, no 180° shutter options and a plethora of other things. The Panasonics are better "cine" cameras in this regard.
Valid point that I should have mentioned the ZV-E1; I forgot it's the same price as the S5 IIX. But the other similarly capable Sony FF cameras are more expensive.
@TonyAndChelsea It's hard to take the new ZV-E1 seriously at it's price point. There are plenty of cool AI tricks but it's fundamentally flawed and somewhat overpriced. Over heating, single memory card slot etc
Any camera that overheats with moderate work is automatically disqualified for me, I don't care how good the specs are otherwise. The two Canons from this video are disqualified for me and a plethora of Sony cameras including the E1, A6700.
Give me 1 wedding speech shorter than 30 minutes along with the promises in the full sun! So with the 2 Canon devices you're stuck with an egg in your pants, will it overheat or not! Then give me the Panasonic cameras with less fast and accurate autofocus, but with images that you can show the family afterwards. I'd rather practice manual focus pulling than take these risks!
The R6 II can just hook up and use it as a webcam/streaming device! It's awesome! Plus it is much faster for photos, and has full frame oversampled 4K 60 whilst the S5 IIs are cropped! Plus the S5 II HD high speed modes are crippled in AF (limited in 120 and none in 180). The R6 II also has much faster sensor speed, and slightly better dynamic range and ISO noise than the S5 II (check James Readers excellent comparison). In real world the difference between All I and IPB now is insignificant. The IQ is the same and the difference in processing is no different. Either your computer can handle the files, or they cannot (all new Macs can easily handle both). This was more of a problem years ago but now even the IPB Light codecs on the Canons are really high bitrate (that's all I shoot). The S5 IIs are great, but overrated by most TH-camrs who got them for free. Basically if the R6 II came out with all the specs of the S5II, people would have been po'd because it would have been a step backwards in most respects from the R6.
Valid points but you have obviously never worked with BRAW or even Vlog:) The other thing recording to an external SSD. Third is Panasonic's class leading Ibis. And the most important is 3rd party lens support where Canon just sucks.
Gerald Undone has done a test and show that Panasonic does less processing of the video leaving that to the editor. Canon uses high noise reduction on the image of the Canon R6 II. @@angeloplayforone with canon r6ii you can turn off the noise reduction for video. im not sure the gerald dude did that. and you can use canon EF Lenses, works perfectly.
I sold the S5II because of the image quality with regular profiles in video. They use details filtering like on Sony cameras, very fine details look mushy. In 6K these profiles are also have too much sharpness. Yes V-Log is better with good details but there is a lot of noise in low light. You repeat so many times that your are unbiased and not paid by any manufacturers and then you compare a brand new S5IIx with the toy-ish R8 and a 2 year old R6 and claim they are better, that we cannot believe that you are not paid by Canon. :D Canon R6 overheats in 30 mins, R8 in 15 minutes and you say they are better than the S5II or S5IIx which do not overheat at ALL. Tell it to anyone shooting a professional video that a camera is better which overheats in 15 mins, they will laugh at you.
Pana Software is a pita! I own a GH6 and even as we have 2023 sharing video or even fotos vie wifi does not work. To my PC and my MAC neither. Also BT is a pita. In both cases I was able to bring my GH6 into a freeze. I set up at least 200 different smartphones to headset and other things, IR modem to PC in the good old UMTS (!) times etc. But this 2000€ device does not work. So I gave up. Because IF BT is running, it is possible it freezes wich is unaceptable when I use the GH6 in Teams. BTP: My PEN F works great via WiFi, my old A6000 also great and fast to share via Smartphone.
👍👍
I NEVER shared ONE foto via Smartphone in 8 months owing it.

Me first !
I just skipped whole 5 minutes of your video, guess which?
