At 72 I’m starting to really like metal bands and that is surprising to me. I never listened to the lyrics or the musicianship involved. Thanks youngster 💜👵🏼✌🏼
This guys face when Dime began soloing and his face as he realised what he was missing by looking at the camera instead of the screen, priceless!!! Dime was a one off, a legend in the truest sense!!! R.I.P to the brothers Abbott such a fucking tragedy!!!! 💔💔
no one really sang like phil. he set the mold for this type of metal back then. even then the range he had IN THE BEGINNING was extraordinary. the highs and lows he could hit were incredible. concert after concert ended up shredding his vocal cords. listen to him today, he's basically a dinosaur growl.
i think eventually there will be (talent wise) no one can replace the man himself, and when we do see an equal talent wise, dimebags name will be written all over him because 10000% dimebag would be the reason of their success as a guitarist. Imagine a kid on the shitter right now rockin a pantera shirt just ripping away on his guitar, no real training, just playing with passion and instinct, who knows lol
Every time I watch this video, I don’t want it to end. Since CFH, something has come up, and I never got to see them. I’m so thankful I got to DamagePlan

I feel so bad for you young ones that didn't get to see Pantera live! It was AWESOME! I've still got picks, back stage passes and all other cool shit from the band. Me and some friends hung out with them after a show at the Whiskey in Hollywood, I think it was 89 or 90. Cool fun times, great guys, humble and sweet.
Agreed! Saw them at The Stone and Warfield in SF. The lady who used to cut my hair for 20 years was Sunny of Sunny Productions. She brought them to Sacramento the first time. We had dinner with them the night before their show. Vinnie taught the bartender to make Black Tooth Grins. Fun evening at the Mansion Inn right behind the War Memorial Auditorium.
@@solarwinds9363 They were awesome! I hate when parents restrict their kids interests! My youngest went through a disco phase, I hated it! I just asked him not to play it around me. Sorry your mom was so uncool. I'm sure she meant the best for you.
Cemetery Gates is a must from Pantera! You can of course have a break from them but Cemetery Gates is probably their best song vocally and lyrically. The guitar is also killer.
Don't forget Vinnie! If he wasn't back there beating those skins to death the song would have just been good. But the Abbot brothers together made it epic.
I'm 46 and grew up listening to 80's/90's metal. I remember exactly where I was the first time I heard Pantera. It's amazing watching people reacting to these metal bands that all aren't metalheads and you can see them realize that they have been missing out. I love it.
Phil was in a couple projects starting back then. If you've ever heard "Stone the Crow" by the band Down, that's Phil on vocals. Song was pretty popular so you may have heard it in passing. Pantera song I recommend is "Becoming"
Just found your channel tonight (02/12/24). I appreciate that you're giving metal a fair shake. Following is an awesome live Pantera song: Primal Concrete Sledge (Official Live Video).
Nothing touches this IMO for raw expression and energy on stage, always blows me away Phil's and Dimebag's expression and movement in this video, it is just instinctual and raw. It is also why nothing can touch Pantera IMO, the chemistry of Phil and Dimebag, the way they seem to be able to feed off of one another you do not find often in music, and all the little natural fills you can hear in this music, Phil grunting in certain spots, Dimebag with the whammy bar.
This DOMINATION thing is the epithomy of live metal music performance - from the claim of Phil's vocal through the development of the idea and riveting solo to resolution by this heavy riff at the end and bowing down with the guitar griff... it's pure joy and satisfaction through and through.
Imagine an empty gravel parking lot in the woods, several Jerry cans of gasoline, and a stack of shipping pallets for a bonfire. add beer and bunch of high school kids partying on a Friday night with this CD cranked full blast. Welcome to the 90s. I miss those days. 👊🤘
When you check out "Cemetery Gates" make sure you get the full version. It just isn't quite the same song without Dime's intro solo, and the cut version removes it completely.
Cowboys From Hell and Vulgar Display of Power are two absolutely amazing albums from start to finish. I saw these guys in concert when Vulgar came out and it was one of the best shows i have ever seen. Phils vocals back then were insane and Dimebag was on another level playing the guitar. If only Dime and his brother were still with us. RIP
Three things, to fully understand. How Dimebag Darrell, developed his style. 1. He played guitar, everyday. He took that guitar with him. Where ever he went. That passion and drive, took him above other amazing guitarist. 2. He played live, which definitely. With his brother, made the band skyrocket. 3. He was a very humble individual. Taking time, to greet his fans. Those amazing notes, being played. There are called squeals, freaking amazing.
Phil influenced an entire new coming of vocalists, even shortly after Pantera got their break. That is probably why you recognize his voice, many people emulate him.
Dime was a legend. We all wanted to be him in the late 90s early 2000s. The most flamboyant guitarist in all of metal. Just a good soul dime was 😢 had the best hair too 🤷♂️
The slower bit you mentioned is called a breakdown. You can hear it in just about every metal core song these days. Im seeing Pantera in March, im so pumped! RIP vinnie and dimebag... the people that are standing in for them are very worthy.
Imagine this at concert volume with your internal organs literally vibrating with the beat. Tens of thousands of people sweating and moving to it together just screaming and letting everything out. When you left a Pantera show, no one had left anything behind.
When pantera finished their show as they passed by Metallica Dimebag Darrel turned to kirt hamlett of Metallica and said" top that one boy" I seen the original pantera in concert in 1995 and their energy and talent was so extreme it was unreal. One of my favorite concerts I have ever been to,and I've been to many.
One of the best live bands. Heavier live. Great with the crowd. So much energy. I had no voice and a lot of pulled muscles after their shows in the mosh pit

Groove Metal is the hidden metal subgenre that keeps getting misclassified for lack of understanding. Nu Metal is really just Groove Metal same thing as NWOAHM really being Technical Groove Metal. Ha ha. There was a day back in the 90s where I had a very similar reaction....the first time I heard them. Yeah, to this day, they are still on my playlist. I call it "morning coffee". Another note...the squeal from his guitar, he actually got paid to make that squeal. His guitar sponsor knew the crowd loved it.
30 years later this song still gives me goosebumps!
When he hits that harmonic right before the breakdown gets me every time
Bro, I’m 52, seen the play live a bunch of times, every time I hear a live track it just brings me back to that moment.
Not just Groove Metal…. TEXAS Groove Metal. The heaviest breakdown ever in recorded music.
They fuc&$&& perfected the concept of the breakdown. 5 minutes alone…..it’s the first class in all guitarists learning the concept of the breakdown.

Thank God you made it all the timer !

Greatest heavy metal guitar player ever. R.I.P Dime and Vin
There's a reason Eric Clapton was a fan of Dimebag Darrell....
I'm glad I got to see him at the Spectrum in Philly!

At this very moment Pantera began to, in fact, dominate metal.
Fuck, I miss the brothers. R.I.P.

You from Brum? Can sense an accent?
Saw it live, in 1991. But still get goosebumps every time then see this video.
Those goosebumps? You'll still be getting them 33 years, just as I do.

Yes, Phil's voice established that voice in metal. He was first and the world followed.
Dime was a legend in the making. They'll never be another like him that's for damn sure!! RIP🙏
