This is Groove Metal, invented by Pantera themselves
Next song should be Cemetery Gates (studio version) because the video cuts the intro. This song showcases the lead singers vocal abilities much better

Did they really invent it though? They might claim it, but it's hard to deny how much this sounds like Motorhead - Ace of Spades from 1980.

RIP Dimes and Vinnie, 2 absolute genius masters of their instruments - got to see them play and hang with them a couple times and they were 2 of the nicest guys with a helluva sense of humour! No matter how much he drank and/or smoked Dimes could still strap on a guitar and play a show perfectly...

I was a bartender, DJ, and bouncer when I was younger, and when wanted to people to leave after closing time, I always said to mic 'if you're not leaving now, I'm gonna be..' and then played 'Fucking Hostile' from Pantera. 😁PS. people always left on time, and found it funny and left a smile on their face.

RIP Dime and Vinnie There is another great watch video covering the Death of Dimebag as tragic as it was!!!!! Dime was one of the most nicest down to earth Rock stars I have ever witnessed and or ran across I met him 2 separate times in Orlando and we shot the shit for about 10 minutes each time like I was the only person around it was quite an honor meeting him first hand!!!

Dime (guitar) and brother Vinny (drums) were truly two masters at their craft… Vinny had this way of changing up the tempos, or inserting these little off beats that were just so smooth, and the stuff that Dime did with that guitar was out of this world (the death of Dime was tragic, and a life taken too soon)… If you want to check out something cool from Pantera, check out Cemetery Gates… in addition to Dime and Vinny showing their mastery, you can hear the full range of Phil on vocals.

When Berlin was behind the Iron Curtain, many Germans smuggled in music instruments, especially guitars. Rammstein band members did music in the underground because of restrictions.

Pantera was the heaviest, hardest metal band in the 90's. Their influence still effects rock and metal bands today. Dimebag Darrell is considered one of the guitar goats. It's funny you mentioned they must have toured with a chiropractor. Phil Anselmo, the lead singer, destroyed his back with his aggressive head banging and stage antics, he needed back surgery. He got the news on tour and didn't want to take time off touring which caused him to get addicted to pain killers and spiraling to heroin which eventually led to an o.d. after a show. He survived but it brought light to his addiction to the band and ended up leading to the break up of the band in the early 2000's. A couple years later Dime was murdered on stage by a deranged fan. drummer Vinnie Paul, dimes brother, passed away a few years ago. The fans never got the reunion we wanted. Last year the surviving members got together and went on tour under the name pantera for a tribute tour to the 2 Brothers. I got to see it a few months ago and it was an amazing show!

I love Pantera but they weren’t the heaviest of the 90’s by a long shot Death metal and Black metal were both at their all time peak in the 90’s and are much heavier then Pantera.

      @posmanager44 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

@spesmarine0088 touche, but I was referring to heavy metal, not death metal or black metal. Both of those are a niche genre of metal and only touch a small demographic of the metal community.

Metal is therapy man, its alchemy, its facing the darkest of the dark and turning it into gold and a mosh pit is basically "lets beat the Sh*t out of each other" but if someone drops they are usually picked up off the floor. A mosh is like a huge controlled play fight with usually some rhythm to it, its a strange dynamic you are all collectively a sea of bodies to hit and smash but the sea just absorbs it . There are subcultures of this stuff that are less of a play fight and more of just a fight , but the general idea is more like somewhere between a friendly sparring match coupled with complete chaos and elements of dance (there is far more "dance" in a mosh it than you might realise). A mosh is not about damaging each other its about letting off steam on each other in a strangely safe yet violent way

I’ll remember Cypress Hill for the rest of my life😂X-Fest 2003 in Pittsburgh…The lead singer asked the crowd if they had any weed, and you see stuff being thrown on stage😂Then he asked for a light and I connected with a lighter flying through the air that ended up hitting him in the head😂😂Then they smoked on stage and went into Hits From The Bong…It was truly epic😌(it was when they did “Rock Superstar.”)

It’s Groove Metal. The Abbott brothers father was a rhythm and blues music manager and the boys recieved a lot of influence through that genre. The boys are Dimebag Darrell Abbott on lead guitar, and Vinnie Paul Abbott on drums. The band is easily the tightest (as in how clean they play) group ever. Because of the brothers playing together from childhood. Neither were taught traditionally. They just jammed as children. Dimebag got so good at guitar as a child he DOMINATED every competition until they just made him a judge instead of a competitor at 13 years old.

😊16:04 good point. (I saw them in Omaha in 1995). There's a vid up where Phil talks about his ruptured disc in his lower back and the hell he went through from the mid "90s on for years. He ended up using a lot of things to try to deal with the pain(I won't list here). He eventually got surgery, the way he talks, it's almost like specialists and him both knew in the mid '90s what they could do at the time, surgery-wise....sucked, for possible recovery. To hear him talk about it, so true, (I injured my lumbar discs in 2004, still living with it every day since) he's so right, he'd try to explain to those around him, unless they've been through, it's impossible to explain to someone the knife going in your lower back every day. Debilitating. Not talking 'bout self deleting, but like Phil says "it's a s**t existence, you wake up, knife going in your spine, i dont want to be here, I don't want to wake up to this" (I don't have it word for word) He wasn't su****al, just that life is pure hell, all day every day when it's that injured. Ruptured disc, (mine weren't ruptured) and to just go on day after day for years. I don't judge him for the substances he got into, I'm allergic to everything over the counter afyer 19 years of taking thousands of each, I've taken everything prescription for pain too, inversion, acupuncture, weekly chiropractor. To me now I see a brother I can relate to when Phil talks👍 (could be wrong, I think Tom Araya of Slayer needed surgery somewhere in his spine after years of performing)

As someone said before, yes its "groove metal" which they basically invented. The difference between heavy metal and hardcore/punk would be in the instruments. heavy metal will have significantly different drums and guitar. drums will have tons of double bass kicks, where punk will have more quarter note kicks. metal guitar has riffs and solo's and punk traditionally has chord progressions. the bass can be similar in each genre, and so can the vocals. so yes, even though metal guitarist like Dimebag were influenced by punk guys, they took it and make something new. that's the beauty of music, especially in our lifetime.

  • @johnnyeproductions

They are a thrash metal band. No one was really doing this kind of music when they first came out. Dimebag's riffs are so powerful, Vinnie's drumming is insane and Phil screams his ass off. In response to the physical nature of metal...Going to a metal show with a good pit ...including opening bands, is like an intense three to four hour workout, that you leave with bruises and busted up...occasionally bleeding- all consensual.
Ive had my tail bone broken, black eyes, lost shirts, landed on broken bottles and cut up.... all somehow worth it. Its a cathartic release of aggression and a level of excitement like a kid on christmas morning thats hard to find in life....MMA for metal heads.

Pantera are the originators of groove metal. A subgenre of thrash with a steady groove in the beat.

Hey, great reaction to a great song. I'll just say that if that punk band wanted their music heard literally all across the globe back then, they should have sent it to John Peel, c/o BBC World Service. If you're not familiar, Peel was one of the greatest radio DJs the world has ever known. He had been around since the pirate radio stations in the UK in the late 60s, then joined the BBC until his death in the 90s. He never wallowed in nostalgia for the music of his youth, but always looked for the unknown artists in every corner of the globe, from the Mice Men of Africa to... everywhere.
This included a sweep through the Soviet countries gathering up music from basement bands who would have been arrested if they'd been discovered by the police.

They were just getting started and they came out and played something where they could take over a stage in front of that many people. Most bands would run away from situation.

The crazy thing is Phil the singer actually had 2 or 3 separate back surgeries because of how hard he was going on stage for years. So you guys where kind of right with the chiropractor comment there. Unfortunately that and a lot of other issues spelled the official end of the band in mid to late 2001. But the legacy they left in the time between this concert and then can never be duplicated. Dime is and the band as a whole will always be legends.

I'm not much on labels (not trying to sound clichéd, it's just that very few bands are 100% one genre) but Pantera is generally considered groove metal. There's so many different genres and not everyone will ever agree completely on what bands fall into which category. Pantera was EPIC live, truly one of a kind. Not sure there'll ever again be a guitarist/drummer duo like Dimebag and his brother Vinnie. I was blessed to have lived on Texas for many years in the 90's and into the early 2000's and got to see them perform close to a dozen times in smaller clubs and larger venues both. Great review!!!

One of the coolest things I’ve seen from that era are “Bone Records”. Since western music was banned, people in USSR would make bootleg records, but the only readily available materials that would work was old X-rays.

    They're Groove metal.
Which is basically a slower groovier form of thrash metal, which itself takes elements from speed metal, british metal and punk rock.

Best band live! I’m so lucky to have seen them in the 99’s. This video makes me so happy and gives me major goosebumps. And by the way….lots of chicks dig the fuck out of metal. I dig metal much heavier than this. But Pantera will always be a favorite. And, after one of these shows….your pumped. Not tired!

Pantera is southern metal/thrash 90s metal, the snare and high hat are the same as punk, but with double bass, and the guitarist can at least play solos, where as in punk the guitarist just plays power cords.

This is literally one of the most important metal shows ever.
This is very important political event and it united fans of metal and was the start of a cool relationship between Russian metalheads and American metalheads all of a sudden we had THRASH METAL in common.
    There's documentaries about it.
Its crazy to think were we are today with Russia.
Maybe all they need is another crazy metal show to remind them what's really important.
Pantera went there and fuk'n destroyed 🤘🏼
