I told my friends/co-workers that "I Write Sins, Not Tragedies" by Panic At the Disco is one of the best white boy songs I've ever heard. Now they're sending me song suggestions and I'm doing live reactions here, on the Trying White Music series lmao
I didn’t know about the Live version! I’ll come back to it!
➡️ Patreon.com/RobTV for early vids or for guaranteed song requests! ⚡️🎸
Speaking of live versions you need to see check out Stevie Ray Vaugh - Texas Flood Live at the El Mocambo. Stevie Ray Vaughn is a blues musician who was easily on the same level as Dimebag. "They say playing the blues is like being Black twice, Stevie missed both times but I never noticed" - B.B. King (Blues God)
lead singer, phil anselmo, right? back in 1992-93, when i was in high school, everyone knew that phil was racist. mostly against black folks. i don't know if he's changed, but i doubt it. you wanna keep going with this "white people music" thing, check out "no one's leaving" by jane's addiction. "jesus christ pose", by soundgarden. "if you have to ask", by the red hot chili peppers. i have more for you, however, music should not be categorized by race, so i dunno if i'm wasting my time here.... you really wanna trip, check out "willie the pimp" by frank zappa, feat. captain beefheart on vocals.
@@jdbankshot still are so last years was hard for him because some lands refuse his concerts because racist
@@jdbankshot "In a July 2015 interview with Rolling Stone, Anselmo spoke out against Pantera and his other band's usage of the Confederate flag, claiming that it was a mistake to use it on their merchandise, albums, and other promotional material. Anselmo said "These days, I wouldn't want anything to fucking do with it because truthfully ... I wouldn't. The way I feel and the group of people I've had to work with my whole life, you see a Confederate flag out there that says 'Heritage, not hate.' I'm not so sure I'm buying into that." Anselmo said originally, that Pantera used the image because they were huge fans of Lynyrd Skynyrd, but it was never about promoting hate"
If you ain't seen the live version, you ain't seen shit!!
Next up on Pantera has gotta be “Cemetery Gates”
Not the official video! The studio version is a couple minutes longer.
Definitely do the studio version of that song
Masterpiece, the studio version, yes!
That and then Hollow, and then This Love
and floods!
make sure you circle back to the live video for this song...the black and white one!
10000%
This is the way
Live in Moscow is the shit...
Hellyes
Yes. Definitely have to watch that video
4:36 Fun Fact: Spongebob actually featured a song from Pantera in one episode and the song is called "Death Rattle" lmao
part of Death Rattle, and the track on the soundtrack for Spongebob is called "Pre-Hibernation"
Just came down here to make sure someone was on top of this. Carry on.
I commented this, then saw your comment as the first one and immediately deleted my comment lol well played sir
@@nim4464Jellyfishing! Jellyfishing! Jellyfishing!
They made Bevis and Butthead a bunch of times too!
Fun fact: that "stomping" sound effect near the end, as you put it, is actually the drums! They just put a whole hell of a lot of reverb on them, and set it to delay a small amount so the reverb kicks in just a little bit after he hits the drum.
This is cool AF!!!
Absolutely, mind was blown when I found that out for the first time! I love when they screw around with production like that, it makes music all the more unique and I'm here for it.@@HollywoodRobTV
Vinnie Paul is probably one of the best drummers in metal music and I’m not sure if you know but him and dimebag are brothers. The Abbott brothers! Absolute legends and both unfortunately no longer with us! I started my Pantera journey only about half a year ago and I am fully hooked.

Dimebag is a personal hero of mine, smiled all the way through your reaction. Glad you found and like Pantera, much love dude.
Right to see Dimebag bringing new joy to someone who's just discovered them. Is simply amazing. Dimebag is smiling ear-to-ear wherever he is!
Oh man the live in Moscow version of this is something that will change your life for sure. That is a 10 out of 10 live performance that is the high water mark for what a band should strive to be at a live show. I also highly recommend Revolution is my name play Pantera that's a killer track
weird they had a show in Moscow and try to say they aren't racist, fascist, fuck knobs
Also to talk just a little bit about the importance of drums in rock and metal music: I absolutely love the way they do drums in this sort of stuff. As opposed to Jazz music and stuff similar to it, the snare drum is what consistently keeps the beat going in rock/metal, and that means they can play around more with the kick drum and create some interesting as hell rhythms with it. For example, if you ever make a video on the Pantera song "Becoming", _definitely_ keep a lookout for what the kick drum is doing, because honestly the kick pattern in that song is half of what makes it so interesting.
And also, drum fills are just really cool! They bring a hefty amount of extra energy to already pretty good songs, and really elevate them to be something more. You find a lot of cool ones in Thrash metal, I've noticed.
off of your last couple of lines regarding drums i am going to have to suggest you listen to the song "live undead " by Slayer off of the album "south of heaven" the entire album is a clinic on thrash drumming, Dave Lombardo (drummer) couldn't be touched in that 80's 90's era. enjoy
you must go with the live version of moscow 91'!!!
I completely irrevocably concur
That is literally an historical event on tape.
GLAD you did the album version first!!! The live in Moscow is ICONIC as history so if you check it out too, it'll be worth it!!! Nicely done!!!
NICE Pantera lineup you got comin'!!!
exactly bro. In my opinion first reactions always need the album version!
Watching you discover Pantera brings a huge smile on my face!! Cudos to you stepping out of your comfort zone!! Recognizing Greatness!! Showing you great music is universal and brings everyone together!! If it bangs then it bangs
Other Pantera monster tracks:
War Nerve,
13 Steps to Nowhere,
Shedding Skin,
Becoming,
Cemetery Gates,
This Love,
A New Level,
The Great Southern Trendkill.
I love Vinnies drumming on 13 steps
floods should’ve made this list
Hollow
Dime is one of the greatest in the world to ever play guitar. Mans died on my 12th birthday and they were my favorite band at the time
I was so hyped to finally see you react to this song! I’ve been waiting patiently since the start of your “Trying White Music” videos! Happy to see you enjoyed it!
Respect for also doing the studio version of this!
Pantera was a force to be reckoned with...there will never be another band like them
This video popped up in my feed.. I loved your reaction to all the juicy little things that Pantera put in there music, a couple facts I found out while taking a master class from Terry Date. I work with live bands and use some of his techniques to get certain sounds.
For Pantera he used small amounts of Reverb and Delay on Vinny Pauls drums.. Then when needed he would add more to put more of impact and pull out emotions of the listener…
So in essence you get exactly what you reacted to.. In my opinion this is the perfect sonic album for the 90s… Hearing it on a large PA is amazing…
This is my favorite track off their Cowboys from Hell album. Followed closely by The Art of Shredding.
For me it's The Sleep. That solo gives me chills every single time!
I enjoy the energy that you have when you react to stuff. Also I recommend "This love" or "5 minutes alone" or "I'm broken ". The live in Moscow 91' version is a must watch. I believe that there was over 1 million people at that concert.
I'm broken is hard!!!
One of the best breakdowns, Ever.
Dude, I love how open-minded you are with this music. Just watching how much you dig it reminds me of how amped I was listening to these songs for the first time, especially this one. Love your commentary, too. Keep doing what you do.
I love your reactions to Dimes solos man. ❤ epic jam
The Domination breakdown deserves its own section in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
I'm an old hippie from back in the day...was a teenager in the 70's...grew up listening to Zeppelin, Floyd and all the great music from that era. I never gave this band or RATM a chance. I'd never even heard of SOAD ir Slipknot UNTIL I happened upon your chnl. You have turned me on to so much new music!! Thk you Thk you Thk you!! Hope you'll broaden your horizons too and listen to some of the excellent rock music from the 70's. Rock on young man!!👍🤘🔥✌️💫😎
Have you listened to tool? Tool is like zeppelin,Black Sabbath, Floyd, and rush had a baby. They’re so badass.
If you like SOAD, I’d recommend S.O.D (Stormtroopers Of Death)
Yes I have listened to Tool thru Rob TV and I love it too👍😎🤘🔥@@jambsaw7221
@@Leatherface123.Thk u got the recommendation... I will definitely listen👍😎💫✌️
I stumbled upon your channel though my recommendations and ive been loving the reactions homie. Should definitely give "Disturbed" a chance here soon bc they also hype af. Indestructible is a good song to start off with.
Gotta try "5 minutes alone" by Pantera, got that energy to it
Man, the live version they did at that massive show in Moscow is one of the best live performances I've ever seen. Dimebag was on another level that day. Even though I wasn't there, I'm old enough to remember the hype of all those bands gathering that day in Russia. It's better than the studio recording. Although the vocals are a bit muddy, the instruments came together beautifully.
I have to admit (and this is pretty unpopular/hot take) that whole Moscow live has gotten so overrated after years.
Yeah it was one of a kind during it's time, if we talk about number of people. But imo if you watch other/later live shows of Pantera (for an example), I think they definitely shined more during middle and later 90's.
I’ve seen you host Street Fighter events and now you pop up on my feed reacting to Pantera…awesome 😂 😁
One of the greatest breakdowns in metal history. Still holds up today in an Era where every song features one.
Great reaction. Thanks for doing album version first (you can understand the vocals). Now you can do live version from Russia!! Also, for Cemetery Gates, do album version (longer version). There is an MTV video version that cuts out too much of the song for time purposes. Keep up the great work!
Listen to Pantera- CEMETARY GATES, and Mouth for War! Certified bangers.
If you were a fan of the blistering speed, and slowed down heavy breakdown of this song, you need to check out “Dead Embryonic Cells” by SEPULTURA!
Also honestly, I love the swearing in these videos 'cause it actually shows that you're passionate about the music you listen to and that's pretty cool :P
Did a great job hosting Capcom Cup Rob! Hope you're not feeling too sick from all the Pagoda egg rolls ya had to eat
You're hearing a lot of the bass guitar in this jam. Pantera was great about letting Rex shine (unlike a few other big bands you may have heard of). ;)
Sometimes it’s hard to pick him out. Same with some Megadeth tunes
Exactly what you said about them lacking lyricism. Some critics were talking the same type of stuff back in the day. Their responses to that were cemetery gates and planet caravan. I highly recommend cemetery gates. It perfectly portrays the roller coaster of emotions when a loved one dies. Not just in the lyrics but in the actual music as well
Next one should be drag the waters...YOU WILL LOVE IT
We gotta get Rob to check out “A New Level” or “Strength Beyond Strength.” Idk if he ready for those songs tho 😭
Pantera are the masters of groove when it comes to rhythm (not for nothing they’re main genre is groove metal)
Imo you should react to “5 Minutes Alone” next, you’ll love it!
Metal has more genres than the Alphabet community has genders 😂
4:47 funny that you mention Sponge Bob, there was an episode of Sponge Bob that had a pantera song instead of the normal opening theme song. That’s how impactful this band was
I recommend listening to Slaughtered from Far Beyond Driven. And Domination is great song, Rex kills it on the bass too!!
I used to fast forward through this entire cassette so I could listen to the break down in this song.
Thank you for real and remaining true to music, fuck the rest!
I love your reactions! Got me rolling cuz you always be reminding of the Mac man RIP. Also, can we get a Smino reaction 🙏🙏?
Stumbled upon your videos today, and I’m a few videos in. I’m impressed you’ve taken the time to learn the band members names on the tracks you’re playing.
You are awesome! Great reaction!
The “stomping sound” is a bass drum with a very awesome sound effect. That or he hit is very hard. Either way it’s still a bass drum and it’s one of my favorite drum sounds ever
Greatest breakdown still to this day is ending of Domination by Pantera which follows one of the best guitar solos ever in the same song.
Cemetery Gates , This Love , A New Level , By Demons Be Driven , Hollow , 5 Minutes Alone , I'm Broken , 25 Years , Thrones Of Rejection , Goddam Electric , Floods , Revolution Is My Name is a few of their many great songs.
If you want to hear a great instrumental version of this song, there's a band of four cellists called Apocalyptica that does a perfect cover of Domination.
Love this reaction! Check out Pantera's COWBOYS FROM HELL!!!
My first video of yours was the "Walk" video and I really enjoyed seeing someone new to the band/genre not only give it a fair shake, but actually loving it. It's a wild ride man, hope you enjoy it 🤘🏻
Please do Cemetary Gates and Cowboys from Hell from them, 2 of the best songs in their catalogue!!!
Dude you gotta do Cemetery Gates by them next. Soooo fire I think you’ll like it a lot
Pantera is the truth, man. If you like their groove metal style, maybe work your way up to Lamb of God's "Laid to Rest" or "Now You've Got Something to Die For". I always prefer reactors do the studio version but their 2006 Download Festival set was absolutely incredible, so maybe check those out from that show.
Nothing better then the reaction of open minded young people to Heavy Metal❤❤❤❤
This was one of my favorite song reaction videos on TH-cam. +1 sub.
Rob is a man of culture I see
The live recording mentioned is live in Moscow, the show was legendary. I'm going to respectively disagree with this being a certified banger, it might not be Walk status, but the thing you have to understand about this, Walk is arguably the definitive anthem of the 90's, nothing compares to it, it's the Iron Man of the decade. You can't diminish a song like Domination, which was a concrete foundation of the Pantera setlist through the duration of their career and is still a part of the reunion tour.
Just subscribed brother. Your commentary is the best on TH-cam easily. The realest of the real. Love it. Carry on my man 👊
You've got a jumpy personality and I'm all for it, nice video quality
Favorite pantera song, favorite all time guitar solo, favorite breakdown. Yes!! 🤘🏻
"A New Level" vid, if it ever happens, will be damn entertaining
Bloodborne W
LET'S F'N GO ROB!
Dime had a couple guitars painted as rebel flags but it's completely out of context to think it racist great reaction 🤘🤘
PANTERA KINGS OF METAL FOREVER 🔥🔥🔥
The breakdown at 7 min is one of the heaviest of all time. It's brutal and worth listening to a few times.
Hey, you are digging it now that we got to the part!!! Yeah, some dope shit!!
I love watching you react to my favorite bands it's hilarious and I totally relate it's impossible for me to sit still and not head bang like a crazy person lol you would really enjoy watching the songs you already reacted to live videos they are so fun to watch perform 😂
Most entertaining and genuine reactor on TH-cam. Keep it up.
Pantera's lyrics can be super deep. Hollow is really good
Yes, this is absolutely where you have to do the live vs the studio versions. The live is about 50% the vocals but about 10x the guitars and drums. Must react! And crowd is mind blowing in scope. It’s their “official” video for this song. Worth a re-react.
Got to see PANTERA 9 times, and every time was better. RIP DIME AND VINNY! CFH FOREVER!
This is the second time i've watched you listen to my favorite band. I'm subscribed now.
Don't worry about the haters. Pantera was not a racist band. Phil has definitely said some things that were probably taken out of context but I wasn't there so I don't know. If you watch any of their live home videos they brought metal to everybody. I'm so glad that you're getting into them bro. Dimebag could make it scream.
Edit: coincidentally, There's an episode of SpongeBob called Pre Hibernation Week featuring Pantera as special musical guest". They use the song Death Rattle.
Others said it but you need to watch the live video of Domination. Anyway, one last Pantera song you must check out - Im Broken.
The live version of this is absolutely killer!!!!! You will not be disappointed!!!!!
Great choice, man!
Porbably the greatest breakdown in Metal history.
The live version is a must though...🤘🏽🤘🏽🤘🏽
Love the videos, I agree with some of the other posters that another great Panera song is Cemetery Gates. My request though is Kid Rock - American Bad Ass
As a white guy. The white hall of fame threw me off so hard 😂😂😂😂. To funny
If you like Pantera my personal favorite song is hollow
Revolution is My Name!!! Please!! Huge fan of your street fighting brotha!
Bro I'm fried and was just watching you react to walk and was like "damn you should react to domination" then boom!!! Love ur content dude
Ah, react to the live version in Moscow! Nothing I’ve ever seen like it
I have to admit (and this is pretty unpopular/hot take) that whole Moscow live has gotten so overrated after years.
Yeah it was one of a kind during it's time, if we talk about number of people. But imo if you watch other/later live shows of Pantera (for an example), I think they definitely shined more during middle and later 90's.
A New Level is another one to check out. That has one of my favorite solos by Dimebag.
You have to do Pantera, Cemetery Gates. Unreal song
Please dont censor your vids bro. Your genuine raw reaction is priceless
some of phil's best lyrics ever. amazing song with amazing energy
7:42 in, u just made my day! He's a bad mother - f#cker! right on! lol I saw Pantera live a couple weeks ago in Baltimore, even without Dimebag, Zakk Wild covering for him, they still kick ass
I have a very diversified music genre. I can go across the board. My very first concert was the "Commodores". Then got metal and still sing Patsy Cline and shit just changes.
Now that you are hitting the growlers, I would be very curious to hear your take on Opeth. I highly recommend reacting to either Blackwater Park or The Baying Of The Hounds. Both Mikael and Peter are amazing guitarists as well and I feel you would dig their musicality.
Opeth are musical genius' no one really reacts to them though. Would be nice
@@RevelationNone I've seen a number of people react but it's always to the same 2 songs. Hence why I did not say Ghost of Perdition or Deliverence. They are both bangers, but EVERYONE reacts to those two. Lol
@thewarhamster8139 I'd want harlequin forest
@@RevelationNone also a great choice!
You rock, Rob! 🤘🏼 I’d love to see you react to some Ozzy Osbourne someday.
The song The Awakening by the band Unleash the Archers has it all. Great vocals, drums and guitar solos. I think it would make a great addition to the series
I am loving all of the Pantera so far my sir. You gotta do my two favorites: "Hollow" & "This Love" Idk if you've done "Cemetery Gates" or not but please do studio version NOT music video if you do.
Rob where ya at??? I finally subscribed to your Patreon and haven’t seen anything from you since Feb 20. Come back!
Hahaha hey Cassie! I have 5 videos shot and being edited!
We’ll have a TH-cam and a Patreon upload tomorrow 🤙🏾
Yo! Here's 10 more that I highly recommend you add to your reactions to do list!
Cochise by Audioslave
Dead and Bloated by Stone Temple Pilots
Head Like a Hole by Nine Inch Nails
Say It Ain't So by Weezer
Spoonman by Soundgarden
Take me Out by Franz Ferdinand
Take the Power Back by Rage Against the Machine
The Man Who Sold the World by Nirvana
The Unforgiven by Metallica
Trippin' on a Hole in a Paper Heart by Stone Temple Pilots
Yo! I didn’t even realize I could get Super Thanks! I appreciate this tremendously and I’m shoot a vid on at least one of these this week (editor has to cut it down tho).
Really cool as hell of you to show love like this ✊🏾
9:37 the most evil laugh ever 😈🤘
Like others have said, you gotta check out the live version they did in Moscow with over a million people in the audience 👍🔥
CFH!! Getchya Pull!!
Fun fact: that particular show was Monsters of Rock in Russia. Over 1 million people attended that show.
Check out the song from pantera called, this love. Its brilliant.
There is another one from the same album called, hollow. They are both on the album called vulgar display of power 👍
You want a Pantera BANGER?! Do “F*cking Hostile”!! You want regret it
Absolutely fire as f*ck that
Think Cemetery Gates should be next......solo is rank as one of top 50 solos in a song and Phil's vocals are CRAZY
Bro this has always been my favorite
