I've always liked the aesthetics of this style of gun. For me, a famous scene where a S&W gun like this style was used was in the movie Street Kings when Keanu used a 4506-1 and he actually used the decocker when he finished shooting

Yeah I used to see this gun all the time and movies and I always liked how it looked!
I was born in 1984 so it was right then in heavy use when I was a kid!
I remember seeing it on the first Bad Boyz Movie, when they stick their guns in that clerk's face and Martin Lawrence asked for some Skittles lol! One of them is holding a Smith & Wesson like this I believe...
I also remember seeing Romeo and Juliet with Leonardo DiCaprio and the end when Juliet commit suicide she uses Romeo's gun which is a Smith & Wesson I believe it might be the more compact version but it was pretty much like this gun is a remember....
      👍✌️✌️✌️

Absolutely love the 5906 series of firearms, Jerry Miculek has a video on a Mexican special forces 5906, and in my opinion is one of the coolest versions of the platform, not necessarily because it’s “tacticool” but because it offers a nice glimpse into an alternative future of handgun development, if cookie cutter polymer wonder 9’s never existed.

Such an incredibly underrated and overlooked gun. All the Smith Gen 3 guns were (and are still) excellent pieces. I’ve got a 5906 and it’s shockingly comfortable for such an “old” platform.

I would love if Smith basically did a "Build Your Own 3rd Gen" kinda thing. Like first you pick your caliber, then your frame, then your finish and then you have your perfect gun. Id love a 5925

They had so many products in the 3rd gen that it basically was that way, haha. Something like 70 different models based on caliber, frame size, material, safety type, single or double stack, etc. The link I provided on Lucky Gunner really blows my mind with just how many different models they had.

Nice review. I like my SW 5903- it looks almost exactly as yours 5906 in the video (mine has alloy frame, stainless trigger and hammer and aftermarket Meprolight tritium sights). I love that thing and I will never ever sell it. The alloy frame adds a lot to CCW ability- not much heavier or even bulkier than G19. One mayor benefit is its 100% reliability. This and my Makarov are my Go-to-war pistol.
btw. I am big fan of The X-files too. Agents Mulder and Scully (and A.D. Skinner also) have Sw5903 in season 3 only. In the first season Mulder has Taurus PT92 or Glock 17 and Bernadelli or Astra 60 pistols for Scully. Then P226 for Mulder, Krycek and Skinner and P228 for Scully and mr.X from season 2 onwards (with exception in S3).

Lucky gunner has a list for how the S&w generation numbers work to make it easier to understand.
A brief summary on how the generations work:
Gen 1: 39, 59, 52. Typically have grips secured in the style of a 1911.
-39: was the first, a singlestack DA/SA 9mm. Built originally for a trial for the US military for a new pistol for commanders, trial was canceled, but the gun was sold to the civvie market. First american wonder 9, Elvis Carried one.
-59: developed from the 39, using the R&D used to make the mk22 hush puppy.
52: made for bullseye shooting, basically a 39 in .38 spl
Gen 2: adds .45 acp to the roster (unsuccessfully) with the 645, and introduced a compact version based on what custom gunsmiths did with gen 1 39’s and 59’s. the first number designated frame material and finish. For example, a 459 is a 59 with a black alloy finish, a 559 has a black steel finish, and a 659 has a stainless steel finish. X59, X39, x69, and 645/745 are the models. X stands for frame finish previously discussed
    Gen 3: adds 10mm (10YX), successfully adds .45 (45YX), introduces .40 S&w in a way that doesn’t explode (40YX),
Y in this example stands for the way the gun operates. A “5906” means “S&w 59 gen 3, standard variant, DA/SA, stainless frame+finish.”
Gen 3’s have wrap around grips and tend to have Novak sights on them.
Gen 1’s and (potentially, but I can’t completely remember) gen 2’s can have standard and target sights.

  • @negotiator96

Probably my favorite pistol of all time! It's the one I grab what I need to arm myself for whatever reason...
Another feature that wasn't mentioned is the safety feature in the fact that this gun will not fire whatsoever if you eject the magazine from the pistol!
Most pistols will let you shoot even without the magazine but this one will not let you do so.
The advantage to this is you and someone are struggling over the weapon and they are getting it from you because you are overpowered for whatever reason you can eject your magazine while you still have it under your control and they take it and cannot shoot even the chambered bullet that's still in the wespon will not fire!
    ✌️👍🤔🧐✌️✌️✌️

    • @booliganshootingsports
      @booliganshootingsports  ปีที่แล้ว +1

Eh, most modern shooters see a magazine disconnect as a major safety failure and delete it as soon as possible, lol. Magazine disconnects being built into guns were a phase that is thankfully getting forgotten.
It’s a fantastic pistol otherwise though. Also one of my absolute favorites.

    • @negotiator96
      @negotiator96 ปีที่แล้ว +1

@@booliganshootingsports I could see How A civilian in a self defense situation would see that feature as a drawback.
But for a police officer who carries openly and who also HAVE TO subdue suspects by hand, would be over and over again tussling with criminals while HAVING TO wear their sidearm on their hip in danger of being snatched from them during the arrest etc... This unique/dated feature might well be a great option to be negate the unlucky event of a suspect going for your fun during a misdemeanor arrest or worse yet a 2 on 1 officer outnumbered fight for your life tussle!
My pistol is a Jax Beach homicide detectives previous firearm. I was told when I bought it that the detective would carry a small 380 as a backup pistol...
As well as a locking holster that was set up to only be pulled by someone who knew exactly the right direction and pressure required to remove the pistol from the holster.
Apparently the tactic was to grab your sidearm when it is being tugged at by the suspect and immediately release the magazine if you feel they have got the pistol and will most likely dislodge it from The holster...
By doing that most people will think they have gotten the gun and will slightly step back or back off you just a bit in order to draw the weapon and shoot you with your own gun. Yet that is perfect for the officer because the gun will not shoot and the suspect has relinquished their grip on the officer and his equipment, and creative distance between them.
This allows the officer to them draw their backup weapon etc...
Also the criminal will possibly be distracted trying to get the officers disabled gun to fire, and not possibly retrieving their own weapon until too late to cause harm to the officer...
      🤔👍👍✌️✌️✌️✌️
      Peace Brother!!!

I suspect we'll see a resurgence sooner rather than later. With everyone tooling back up to bring back "retro" style pistols, I think S&W would be missing out if they didn't rekindle a much simplified line of these. Does it need to be the full 70+ model line up that the 3rd gen has over its lifetime? Of course not, but imagine a full stainless compact, full size, double stack, 9mm, .40, .45, and 10mm model lineup. Ditch the cost cutting MIM parts, go full machined. Charge a little more, people would pay it.

Ok, deep dive with me in my X-files history. I was 8 when the show started airing and I was instantly and immediately hooked. To the degree that I went to the conventions about the show that started up during the 2nd season. Meeting the actors was amazing, and I had a bunch of autographed pics.
Top episodes. When I was younger, I much preferred the monster of the week episodes, so those ones formed my basis of loving the show, but as I got older, I appreciated the core storyline more. But my faves are still:
      1. Anything with Tooms. It's just pure X-files, and he played such a great creepy weirdo. Turns out, the actor is in fact a creepy weirdo so it fits.
      2. Humbug - Again, a perfect episode in my opinion. The setting, music, co-stars, mix of humor and straight up horror, just perfect.
      3. Die Hand Die Verletzt - Creepy vibes, great plot.
      4. Bad Blood - Patrick Renna, he's hard to beat .
      5. Home - If you know, you know.

@@booliganshootingsports I loved x-files too. I think "Theef", "Host", "Ice", and "Home" were some of my favorites but it has been long enough that I think its time to revisit the whole series.

Luckily my collection is largely in two flavors:
      1. Preserve and collect.
      2. Let's get wonky.
This one lives in the first flavor.

His "nickel plated sissy pistol" was actually a Taurus PT945, which is a Beretta type design, but they visually do look quite similar at first glance!

    "Model 39, I believe . . ." Do some freaking research.
Model 39 went on sale in 1955. The Model 59 was introduced in 1971.
At this point, I can't trust anything that you say.
