I've been playing bass for 40 years now and Mark is the only bassist whose techniques still give me trouble. I can play about half of the Level 42 catalogue to perfection and the other half I half-ass it. :-)

Great song from my young days!! We were trendy then, weren't we :0) . Us white Brits thought "Soul Train" was so cooool!

Might be wrong but I thought this was from the album standing in the light, and was before the songs you mentioned.
A couple of lesser known favourites of mine off the same album are Dance on Heavy Weather and Microkid.

Such a good group, excellent funky songs from the 80's. This song is so good, sophisticated and fun, used to listen to it a lot. When brits added a lot to funk / R&B music.

Yeah, I thought I recognised downtown Julie Brown!
Great Band, great track, great memories.
UK Soul and Pop was definitely at its best in the 80s.

This one came out before the ones you’re talking about; it’s actually their first top ten in their native UK. It’s from their album Standing In The Light, which Verdine White from EWF produced. I’m a big fan of both John Taylor and Sting but as a bass player, Level 42’s bass player (and regular singer) Mark King is their superior. Thank you for reacting to this!

Thank you so much for your commentary on a high quality bass player that has a natural talent. this is an extremely good song with a lot of details! Mike sings very good here
Another interesting detail is that Mark King is left handed and plays the bass upside down. This is perhaps the secret to his talent! Mike Lindup is an amazing keyboard player and Wally Badarau is an amazing musical mind! Phil is an amazing drummer, very laid back, but adds a beat when necessary! He knows when to play and not to play. Very good drummer in the style of Idris Muhammad
I hope living in England was good! I love the food and weather

I have loved this song since I was 12 years old - which, totally coincidentally, was when it was released. That makes sense to me ;)

Mark King is the only bass player who could stand toe-to-toe with Louis Johnson.
