This is definitely a real bass, Mark king the lead singer also is one of the best bass players in the world and seeing him play live is just mesmerising!
I love this track also their biggest US hit ‘Something About You’ These two hits introduced me to Level 42. The basslines are dope. I always thought the bass was programmed? Until I watched the lead singer Mark King play it live. Just blew my away!
Great reaction! Love this song. As you've notice Level 42 has awesome instrumentation. And love the bridge bringing in Mike Lindup's falsetto vocals. He also sings the pre-chorus for their song Something About You. Another awesome track, you gotta check it out.
all synth generated ? bruhhhhh. this is a real band, you should see them live. Mark King is one of the best bass players in the world. They were originally a funk-fusion band . Listen to "Love Games".. synth generated... Mark King and Mike Lindup are the lead vocals. Mike is awesome in "starchild"
I was a young woman of the eighties. When Level 42 came into my world, as a trained guitarist I was in love. A lead singer and base guitarist was extraordinary. My twin sister and I were on a train to our first posting in the Canadian Navy. We had our shared Walkman and were dancing on the train. They still sing live today. I saw them live. Awesome British Invasion. To sing as the lead on base is similar to Phil Collins as lead singer on the drums. The melodically challenged theme and harmonic balance was incredible. Something new, something fresh, something dynamic. Love that you are experiencing this Derick Canadian Grandma Lori. C.
That is right. Mark king was one of the best bass players ever and was seen as the fastest at this time. Quality band. I loved everything they did. Love seeing others listening to them and liking them too.
Woohoo glad you reacted to another classic! Of course, in the U.S. they never replay this anywhere anymore. This is my 2nd favorite from them after Something About You. Gotta thank my mom for introducing me to it 😁
yeah great song I bought the Vinyl 12 inch back than incl. When the Sun goes Down/Live it up...???? But there older ones are Superb too " Weave your Spell......???? Good old 80s......
You said Mark King is holding the bass but not playing it-Ummm he was playing the bass on the record was a combo of synth bass and real bass as you said later on in the video! Must say don't know how you haven't heard this song considering was a hit in the US. But then you said you had a remix of the song so you have heard it then which would make sense. Also their album: Running in the Family was a hit album on Billboard hot 200 getting top 30!
Mark King was the main vocalist but Mike Lindup often sang too with a more falsetto style. The Gould brothers who were fantastic musicians too completed the band on guitar and drums. Both are sadly no longer with us.
Boon Gould died in 2019. Phil Gould is still alive. 🤷♂️ Level 42 touring still and festival are save for 2024 in Germany, Switzerland and UK. A tour in 2025 is announced from Mark King during the last concerts in November this year (2023)!
Mike Lindup so Hot 🔥 getting down while banging out on keyboard/synth and takes over on lead midway through and brings a smooth and sexy vibe to the song. Easily my favorite Level 42 track. Too bad you didn’t react to the extended video version, more Mike and Mark in other scenes with more smooth 80s dance moves. So good!
Mark king slaps bass! The synth player mike lindup does the higher register of singing cause mark can't so they share the singing. Please do running in the family and there must be something about you.
hahhahahahaha first time ever hearing someone say great synth for a Level 42 song - Mike Lindup would be so proud. But i had to laugh when you said even the bassline is probably played on a synth.....dude go search for Level 42 Mark King and come back and say it is played on a synth 😜🤪😝 BTW R.I.P Boon Gould one of if not the most underrated guitarrist of all time
Not sure how to define a good reactor...but you got it, good vibe, honest reaction without kissing fams asses, have a gemeral overall feel for uniquely good music....im a new subscriber and fan. I highly recommend kandace springs meet ne in the sky and jamiroquai seven days in sunny june
Listen Kid. You know sweet F A about music if you think all these instruments are synth! Mark King is a Bass legend. Mike is an Pianist virtuoso. Boon was an underrated guitarist. Phil is a monster on the drum's. Do some research before you make judgement!
The bass is not syth you should have downloaded a live version ,they did videos like that in the 80,s they mimed stuff try ..I've version dude mark king on world class bass player
Hey Dereck- I subscribed a couple of years ago because I really loved the thought and excitement you put into your Madonna reactions. I don’t know if I missed something but I am really disappointed in you dropping her from your channel. I really like the variety of the artists you react to but many of us still would like to see more Madonna reactions. Especially at a time when she is embarking on an acclaimed world tour. It is with regret that I unsubscribe from your channel. Good luck
Sorry to say Derek, you completely got it wrong stop Mark Kings thumb was insured for £1.5 million. At the time such was the man’s bass playing playing
Do we really need reaction videos? No! Or do you need someone to watch, how he/she / it reacts to any shit? No again. Definitely! Only people with no fantasy do reaction videos. We should react on a reaction video. YEAHHHHHHH! That makes sense.
There aren’t going to be Human players like this anymore. Especially singing and playing at the same time. Very difficult! That ‘ERA’ is coming to an end. Computers do the playing now. No need for a human to put in Hours and Years of practice work anymore. Just press a button, program a sequence and ‘produce’ a Song. Hope I’m wrong.
This is definitely a real bass, Mark king the lead singer also is one of the best bass players in the world and seeing him play live is just mesmerising!
Exactly. One of the best set of musicians around at this time.
"machine gun" 😄
Spot on , just seen them live last month . Absolutely amazing bass player
Agreed .
Dereck, watch the live version of this song. Watch Mark King slap & thumb that bass.
Real bass by 'The Bomber' Mark King. He would record two bass tracks and 2 synth tracks.
Took the worlds out of my mouth, Mark King is a bass guitar legend
One of the bass players ever!
Level 42 is under rated criminally!! Check out Physical Presence!!!
I love this track also their biggest US hit ‘Something About You’ These two hits introduced me to Level 42. The basslines are dope. I always thought the bass was programmed? Until I watched the lead singer Mark King play it live. Just blew my away!
Something About You of theirs is an incredible track.

Always great bass in a Level 42 track! 🎸
Great reaction! Love this song. As you've notice Level 42 has awesome instrumentation. And love the bridge bringing in Mike Lindup's falsetto vocals. He also sings the pre-chorus for their song Something About You. Another awesome track, you gotta check it out.

OMG, je suis tellement sur les artistes que j'adorent notamment en raison de leur "univers" que j'en oublie mes classiques . Merci pour ce bijou 💎💎
That is right. Mark king was one of the best bass players ever and was seen as the fastest at this time. Quality band. I loved everything they did. Love seeing others listening to them and liking them too.

Level 42 is amazing - loved them growing up!
Something About You even better👌💖
yeah great song I bought the Vinyl 12 inch back than incl. When the Sun goes Down/Live it up...???? But there older ones are Superb too " Weave your Spell......???? Good old 80s......
Mark King the lead singer and bass player is on the best bass players alive today. The bass line is not auto generated.
Un petit coucou du sud de la France. J'adore cette chanson
They had many synth-driven songs!
Their song “Running in the Family” is a real banger - great horns, super vocals, and lyrics have some depth as well.
Love this entire CD!
Great club song, I was there.
A fav of mine from the 80s. Enjoyed your reaction Dereck ❤

You said Mark King is holding the bass but not playing it-Ummm he was playing the bass on the record was a combo of synth bass and real bass as you said later on in the video!

Hey Derek. If you really love synthpop, you should check out Fancy (Bolero, Lady of Ice, Chinese Eyes, etc...).
Synth bass?… no it’s Not!
Watch Mark King play live. He IS playing that bass line. One of the best bass players on earth.
LEVEL 42!!!!!!
Among the many good songs they recorded, their 1982 hit Leaving me now was their best in my opinion. A very sad song though.
There are good bass players and then you have mark king the best of them all.seen them live not long ago mark was quality
If you get the opportunity watch them live at Wembley arena 1986
It's a music video! Of course they are not playing. What the live version.
