      Your map doesn’t seem accurate. I look at the crime maps frequently. My area in Far NE Philly is always light blue, but not on your map. The dark blue area on the map in Far NE is the airport! No one even lives there!
      Harrowgate is one of the worst areas in the city. You would have to be out of your mind to move there. Likewise for Strawberry Mansion. Kensington didn’t even make your list, and it’s like a third world country.

      I don't know how it is now, but back when I was living in Philly in the late 90's basically every area was decent and relatively safe to a certain degree, with downtown being the most warm and friendly of all. I'm not a liberal and not an LBGTQ member, but I do remember Philly being very liberal and very LBGTQ friendly. I've never gotten into drugs and never had a drug issue. Even thought I was never into drugs, I was aware through associates that the popular drug in Philly was plain simple weed. People in Philly were not into any of those weird drugs other people in other parts of the USA get into. I have nothing but fond memories of Philly. Definitely my favorite metro city in the USA.

    The tricky thing about crime rates is that a lot of the same kinds of crimes repeatedly occur in the same locations. One neighborhood can have a high crime rate because of a few problem street corners, bars, gas stations, 7-Elevens and other businesses that are frequently robbed while the rest of the blocks are typically quiet. The locals often know these important details. You have to understand that an area with moderate to low crime can be more dangerous if random people are often victimized and high crime areas can be safer if the perpetrators and victims always know each other.

      @@LivinginPhiladelphia When it comes to crime, the nice thing about Philly is that unless you go looking for trouble, you'll likely be fine. And don't make yourself an easy target for people looking for an easy opportunity to rob. If you look unaware of your surroundings b/c you are into your phone or not acknowledging anyone on the street, people who rob (or assault strangers) may think you are an unsuspecting target. Being social and knowing your neighbors helps b/c most locals are welcoming and helpful.
      As far as interesting, it's important to be social in Philly b/c unlike other cities that publicize their attractions, sights and activities really well (Statue of Liberty, Wash. Monument, Miami Beach, etc), most of Philly's gems are largely enjoyed only by those in the know. Sites like Youwishyouknew can help, but it mostly about talking to others who will tell you about interesting bars, museums, eateries, ship yards, gardens, parks, markets etc.

      Sounds like someone has been doing their research! Of course you should speak to a Certified Financial Planner

    Unfortunately Certain people don't have the luxury of living were ever they want in this country! if they have money or not Anywhere the federal government red line though Banks schools etc it's going to be a no go but get in were you fit in is the best advice

    • @LivinginPhiladelphia
      @LivinginPhiladelphia  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      You have a point, although I would add that if you have the money in this country you would be able to get into most areas. Government backed loans may not be a problem if you already have the money and can pay cash or can get a private loan. That being said, specific loans like USDA are only for outside of specific areas. That would limit you if you are only looking at that specific loan. Good point though.

    • @LivinginPhiladelphia
      @LivinginPhiladelphia  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Keep doing what you are doing. If you only have your credit to worry about, that's not bad! There are a few things you can do, most of which have to do with speaking with specialists.
      1. Speak with a credit repair team. They usually have free services and in the end if you do pay for services that get your credit up, that is worthwhile. Let us know if you would like to speak to our credit repair team.
      2. Speak to your bank about your options to get your credit up. They might have options like a small secured loan that would easily get your credit up in less than a year.
      3. Take control of your finances! Find out what you are spending your money on that you can cut back on. Things like smoking, eating out, shopping. These things are hard to cut out of your habits but worth it in the end.

Also, I saw a video about the poorest counties in PA and couldn't resist clicking. #10 was the county I grew up in, Northumberland, and about $39K median income. #1 was Forest County at $34K, which is much lower than such a poor county, but #!, which you already know, is Philadelphia. The money is in the suburbs, like as in H-burg and maybe even P-burgh. Even Reading, which is one of the poorest cities in the country, has rich suburbs. @@LivinginPhiladelphia I would add that my favorite booth at RTM is Bsssett's ice cream, where one can get great ice cream and learn about the history of a great Philly enterprise. Sadly I learned that another great icon, I. Goldberg is gone, a casualty of www.

      An afterthought is that as a child I actually rode on the Reading when it had a direct line from my home town to Philly, transferring at Pottsville, and it had a dining car. We lost a lot with the demise of RRs and trolleys. T read that it used to be possible to ride trolleys from Boston to Chicago. It would take four days and 104 transfers, but it could be done. At one time, before my time there, a trolley used to run right in front of College Hall on the Penn campus.

    I don’t mean to sound disrespectful, but You’ve gotta be out of your friggin mind to move to any of these war zones! Yeah, property values are at a really nice price-point because you have an excellent chance of getting killed when you walk down the street. I grew up in Philly and we knew certain parts of the city NOT to visit, especially at night. Unless you’re looking to get mugged, raped, or killed. The only way some of these areas will get inhabitable is when it gets so bad that the drug dealers and other criminals finally leave.

    • @LivinginPhiladelphia
      @LivinginPhiladelphia  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Believe it or not, there are people looking to get in on up and coming areas to get in on rising property values. Obviously there are investors who are always looking for a good deal too. This is one of the ways urban renewal happens.

      Can u recommend places in Philly to live? I live in NY and im about to start a family but me and my bf can't afford to stay in NY so we're thinking about getting a house in Philly. Please recommend some good places that's also somewhat city-like

      @Projectliyah_592 First off, call us directly so we can get you on the right path. TH-cam is not the best place to have a conversation. That said, Philly has tons of great neighborhoods. It depends on your specifics and budget. Somewhat citylike sounds like you want to be on the outskirts of the city. Check out Manayunk, Roxborough, the Main Line is great too. Chestnut Hill, Fox Chase. Many more spots that may be right for you and your family. Again, a conversation would be best.

    things were changing and not for the better. I left Philly in 2012 and now live in south Delaware.
    Will still visit some old friends from time to time i will never move back. The big cities have become
    uncivilized to live in. With that said, GO BIRDS!

      Honestly there is a chance of getting shot everywhere in the US. My point is if you are careful and aware the chances of something happening are small. There are things you don't do to make yourself a target and there are areas you don't take your time in just incase.

      @@LivinginPhiladelphia Well, first you should’ve had more actual videos of the areas that you were speaking of, and not top down Google map views. Second, less video of the host and more video of what the host is talking about. And definitely change the background music , because it’s not fitting for a video that’s talking about “the worst neighborhoods.”

    You’re insane about Fairhill.( down the way) as we would call it. That’s where we used to buy weed when I was younger and much more naive. It’s a war zone down there. Fairhill and luzerne was a drive through block where there was usually a traffic jam from all the cars lined up around the block on a Friday or Saturday night to get weed.. I don’t care how cheap those boarded up dilapidated houses are!!!! You couldn’t pay me to own one, not in that neighborhood at least. Unfortunately philthadelphia as I call it is getting worse and worse. Even in the northeast like Castor and Cottman is starting to resemble Frankford. In other words pretty much uninhabitable for civilized people at least. Horrible cesspool of a city filled with savage animals. So glad I got the hell out. The only thing I still like about Philly are my Eagles 🦅, Phillies, Sixers and Flyers. They should call it the city of brotherly hate honestly.

    • @LivinginPhiladelphia

      Thanks for sharing your thoughts. Fact is there are some with priorities that are different than yours. Some are looking for a more affordable home and they are OK with moving to a less desirable place in hopes it will turn around. For those who do not like the area, there are many other great neighborhoods to consider.
