So I had planned to move to CC, and after this video, I still do. It compares very favorably to DC, and maybe I should have made this move long ago.
I believe every city is unique and if you feel comfortable in your city, it must be for a reason. Center City is great if you are looking for the center spot light, lots of action and a minimal commutes. It's a great neighborhood for sure and possibly taking a trip for a long weekend would give you a feel for the area. Let us know if you are looking for some recommendations.
@@LivinginPhiladelphia I have hung out there. A few years ago, while I was dining on Rittenhouse, a young developer was murdered in cold blood, and the killer got off. You've undoubtedly hears of that case. I'm afraid Philly has become a sanctuary city for murder under this administration, but I plan to move there and keep my head down.

Now I've found another location to consider down by the river because it's a remarkably cheap gated community at the $1K price point, to use your expression, and it has a putting green. I'm attracted to places that have a basketball hoop or a putting green. These seem easy enough, but they're rare. Now back to the late Dallas Green. Phillies fans know him as the manager when they won the World Series in 1980. His overall record was slightly under .500, and at one point he was fired by George Steinbrenner, which was not unusual for managers. He died at 82 after having been in dialysis for over a month. I wonder why. It looks like the cause of death was pneumonia. Maybe there would have been a different outcome in a different hospital. I know someone who didn't start dialysis until he was 84 and is now 92. Another ex-Phillie I followed who died recently was Jay Johnstone, who died of covid but had Alzheimer's, maybe from crashing into walls as an outfielder. I almost met him when we were both the only golfers at a driving range, but I didn't try to speak to him. I couldn't say, aren't you Jay Johnstone? because I recognized him and knew he was Jay Johnstone. Back to Dallas Green, his granddaughter was murdered in the shooting of Rep. Giffords in Tucson. My friend Greg who played for Green told me that Green didn't like his long hair and didn't appreciate him joking about hoping a game wouldn't resume after a rain.

Great video and I agree. Fairmount Avenue has evolved into a very nice area; restaurants, coffee shops and close to the walking/jogging trails of Fairmount Park. Rittenhouse should definitely be top of the list.

Correct. Rittenhouse Square is in center city and is one of the most well known areas there.

Top neighborhoods in my opinion based on living in Philadelphia.. Chestnut Hill , West Mt Airy, Society Hill, Rittenhouse Square, Art Museum, Queen Village & Old City

That's such a great neighborhood! There's so many great areas in and out of our great city. University city is no exception. I think we need to update this video with more neighborhoods including UC!

Yes I didn't understand how University City was not on this list on its own. University of Penn,. Surrounding Universities. Shops. Restaurants and some of the most Lovely Victorian Homes over 100 years old. Always listed as one top area's In Philadelphia.
It's no wonder that the city is nicknamed the city of neighborhoods. There are just too many amazing places to narrow it down to only 7 am I right? Either way, University City deserves it's own video for sure!
What about Passyunk Square?
Yes, Passyunk Square is another up and coming neighborhood but is definitely on the upper side of South Philly. lol that's not confusing! For those who don't know, this is where the famous Pat's and Geno's steak sandwich shops are. Great area for sure.
The content of this video does not highlight Philadelphia neighborhoods. Too much time is spent looking at the speaker’s head, and there’s not nearly enough actual footage of homes and shops.

Have fun! Any of those areas are great and you will have access to some of the other great neighborhoods adjacent to them. Most are super walkable.
How about manayunk?
Manayunk is an amazing, unique area on the outskirts of the city. Tons of boutiques, dining wineries and breweries. Most notably it is one very steep hill. If you can imagine this makes the neighborhood very unique.

Cheap compared to LA

Good question, the cost of living is lower in Philadelphia compared to these other cities. The housing market is also lower. Those are the main factors.
Center city is awful these days. Crime rate is high
I would respectfully disagree. Center city is generally safe, especially the touristy places. You should always be aware of petty theft like pickpocketing on public transportation but generally, Center city is a safe neighborhood. Studies have found that the crime rates across US cities is still high. They say it has been slowly declining the past year or two, but still high. That said, there are so many great areas that are safe and worth exploring!
First of all, many of the neighborhoods you mentioned are PART of Center City!
Yes, Center City has many wealth neighborhoods. Great areas to live!
I think they should change also some of Philly town names and the environment to change the bad stigma

@@LivinginPhiladelphia I'll try to find the link to a recent interview. My view, which is not Nobel-informed, is that the Fed ha once again fueled a housing bubble. Now the Biden people are planning to fuel that further by funding the Housing Industrial Complex to the tune of $15K for each transaction at the same time that they have said no to $2K checks. The policy is that any payments must be targeted, having already targeted payments to oligarchs. I wrote the dissenting views on the Housing Act of 1974, and later Carla Hills, who again is more erudite than I am, wrote something similar, which was that the policy amounts to an arbitrary wealth transfer.
It's a real problem and the suffering of the families caught in the housing market crash most recently is a shame. I do agree that feeding the oligarchy is not the direction we should be going in this country. It's a very sad reality we are living in.

On the day he was appointed Treasury Secretary, I said at the water cooler this meant Goldman was insolvent and he was coming to Washington to bail it out. Nothing could be closer to the truth. In the 19th minute Bob hits your sweet spot. One idea he doesn't talk about is that fact that the Fed has taken it ipon itself to try to manage the entire domestic economy and even the global economy. If the Fed ever raised interest rates, the housing market would crash, but the Fed has said it will never do that. Some years ago I was chatting with the lady who is now president of the Cleveland Fed when she was at the Philly Fed, and we agreed that the market could one day figure out on its own that rates need to go up, so the Fed doesn't necessarily control this. The Chinese, for example. Having hit us with the pandemic, they could hit us again with this. I've said for many years that we are the world's most
powerful banana republic, because at bottom we are Argentina except that temporarily we can borrow in our own dollar,

WIN buttons were still in the future.
