I grew up in South Jersey Suburbs. Married 1998 moved to Center City. Divorced and living in High Rise. I not only love this City I know I will never leave. It's a Big City in Little City's body. So many unique ethnic flavors and open to all Cultures. Raised my daughter in the Gayborhood. I think her first words were "Drag Queen". Movies, Museums and Theater all within a couple blocks from me. And NYC a short train ride away. Great City!!
I have lived in Philly for 3 years now. I am from Erie,. I do enjoy Philly, however, its too sunny and warm for me. The summers are horrendous. It rarely rains and snows here. I like gloomy weather and thunderstorms..
im from dallas fort and landed in philly just to complete my nba bucketlist. Dallas is such a car centric city that even to go to convivence store may take a drive ( for me this is the downside of dfw). So I stayed in center city chinatown and Im big on public transportation this area seems perfect as I have yet to find a major city that matches dallas in terms of rent. Food OMG everything in center city is amazing. Everything mentioned here is the reason I am seriously considering relocation
Everyone here is mentioning how it’s a dump. And, it’s really not. Don’t be small minded. There are such great and beautiful parts in every city. Philly isn’t a dump if you’re thinking about moving. Be wise on where you decide to live and you’ll be fine :)
Absolutely agree. I have lived in NW Philadelphia for a good 40 years. You can not beat the medical care, the Universities , the wonderful architecture.
I lived in Philadelphia all my life. The only good thing about Philly is the weather. it doesn't snow as much in the winter like it used to and we don't get the big rain storm. But the city is over crowded. dirty and filthy. crime is so bad even the police have given up and leaving the city. the drug problem is so bad the drug addicts are moving in to Philadelphia from all over the country because of lack of police intervention. The homeless problem is so bad it is causing businesses to shut down and move out and generating more crime. Another problem that the police can't handle in the city of Philadelphia and is out of control is traffic In Philadelphia dirt bikes R/V and bad and poor drivers is a problem in the spring and warm weather take over the highway and putting people lives in danger. THAT PHILADELPHIA
The place is a cesspool and I was born and raised in Philly. I moved away five years ago, thank God. Expensive, crime-ridden, tax heavy, traffic, cold winters, and the people aren't that friendly anymore.
Philly is a great city and somewhat safe if you live in a good neighborhood which are expensive, but not uber expensive like NY, DC or Boston. You will not find a good public school even in an expensive neighborhood because all those slots are taken. So factor private school tuition into your equation.
Not true - yes, there aren’t many good public schools in Philadelphia proper, but there are some, especially for smart kids: Masterman, School of the Arts, String Theory.
@@thomasceneri867 I stand corrected there are a few good public schools outside the neighborhood catchement system. Masterman, CAPA you have named. Years ago there were several more such schools of this nature which admitted students based on merit. Some schools such as Central and Girls High were actually nationally ranked public schools like NYC's Bronx School for Science and Stuyvesant. I dont think they are ranked that high today and still recommend anyone thinking of moving to Philadelphia with a young family set aside money for private/parochial education.
You develop the NYC accent . It's only a 3 hour commute to NYC. Good cheese steak. You might end up in NYC because of the cheesecake. Forgehh aboud it.
Philadelphia hasn't "developed" its accent (of English language) after/based on that of New York; it's precisely because of the proximity of the two cities (to each other), that the (local) accent of the English language has evolved (very) similarly.
They forgot to mention the huge tax on soda. The fact you're paying eight percent sales tax on anything you buy, not six percent. The fact that you can get shot and killed just walking down the road. That is, if you don't get run over. I have clients that have moved to the city and I. Refuse to go there and work for them. No parking. If I do find parking. It's far away. And no matter what I always end up getting a ticket so I just don't go to the city.
Only move here if your already made. This video only showed the nice places. Philadelphia is huge and if you walk into the wrong nieghbohood( which is not hard) you will get jacked. Prices are low because you can buy a crack house for 17,000 in the hood. I like how whit washed this video is.
If my parents had me move to Philadelphia i would be outraged immediately I'd rather stay in Sacramento California i wouldn't get myself in a situation in that city in Pennsylvania i might as well move to reno Nevada 😂 I'm not leaving California any time soon

As a white guy when I visit Philly I usually only feel unwanted by black people. My dad was in a Wendy's and was asked what he was doing in that neighborhood. You get stares if you go into West Philly and you're white. Unfortunately the most racist people you'll often find in the city are black people not wanting white people there.
