Outside of a few special variants, Volvo never really sacrificed comfort for performance or sportiness. The new S60 calls itself a “dynamic sedan, “ does this mean the S60 has more testosterone than years past? Let’s find out.

I've wanted a Volvo since the early 90s when I was a teenager. My friend's mom had a blue Volvo and I fell in love with the boxy body and the safety of the car. I would look at Volvos every now and then but it was never quite the right timing to own one (I have 5 children/adults). There was no way I was going to put my dream of a boxy goddess into anything other than a Volvo sedan. Lo and behold my husband's vehicle broke (and the kids are mostly all grown now) and so I didn't hesitate to give him my minivan (which I loathed with a passion). Through a friend, I got in touch with our local Volvo dealer and voila I am the proud owner of an S60! I'm 5'2" so I didn't want a boat. I like compact but not cramped. I live, breathe, and sleep with my phone so the apple pairing is super handy. I'm a health care provider by trade and not a vehicle fanatic so I can't say a lot of fancy stuff about the car. However, I can say my heart skipped a beat and my stomach sank when I tried to accelerate too fast. LOL The part that Realistick says about lowering blood pressure is true! I feel good in my car so I'm more relaxed. I'm no longer weighed down by wilderness behind me- two rows of seats plus a trunk. My car suits my personality better than any other vehicle. She's comfortable, classy, and safe. What more could I ask for? After all, I use her to drive to work stuff and kid stuff and the occasional fun stuff. She's practical, dependable, and fun! Stepping out in my Caovilla snake wraps looks much more natural in my S60 than it did in my minivan. Mike drop. lol

I enjoyed this review and that you pointed out it's more of a cruiser than sports sedan. I think the car deserves better sales but for some reason I don't see that many S60s on US roads.
Me too, it's the luxury car I would choose, it's unfortunate but it is still fairing exponentially better than the v60 wagon 😂

Thank you, I feel like we will plateau here soon on the SUV takeover as there is still enough of a sedan market for the amount left, time will tell! I think we will get a next gen s60, but it will likely be electric or full hybrid here soon judging by how Volvo has their website set up.

Been pining for one of these beauties for a few years. I love my two JDM project cars but they are just that- projects and not good daily drives by any stretch. I’m craving something new, sensible and classy with a touch of flare. The s60 totally checks that box. Really hoping to get one this coming year.

Awesome review! I'm 6'2" so the backseat review was important for me. Question: is the tech climate control difficult to adjust while driving with navigation running?
Thanks! It was all pretty easy to access for it being built into the touch screen, but the Audi A5 has physical controls that are still going to make quick adjustments less of a hassle.

Got a 2021 T6 Momentum AWD a few days ago but it came with the advanced package and man is it worth it! I couldn't imagine paying that much for a car that didn't come with heated seats. The upgrades really feel like they were worth it. The adaptive cruise, lane assist, and phone charger are all great features and things that I expect on a luxury car. Mine also has the upgraded Harman & and Kardon sound system and it's great! I could take or leave the HUD, 360 camera, and air filtration system. I also really love the interior. It's much more minimalistic in appearance than comparable cars.
FWIW my S60 was originally $50,000. It has 16,000 miles on it and I got it for $38,000. Well worth it IMO!!
Also, I need to say...Be careful driving on those backroads in Bloomington! S Knightridge Road is very popular for cyclists and we appreciate attentive drivers! lol
(My shifter also doesn't have that weird hole..not sure what's going on there )

This car is at the top of my list for early 2024- that is if SUV’s and EV’s don’t “kill” this car. Shame that 2 & 4 door sporty cars disappearing. What about ventilated front seats?

I traded my 2013 S60 for a Mustang. One reason is Volvo didn’t offer steering responsive headlights standard in 2019, whereas, my Mustang has the LED Headlights + fog lamps + automatic brights. Needed something brighter for nighttime driving since I have MS.
I’m willing to bet you didn’t trade in a Volvo sedan for a mustang just because of the headlights 😂
@@anthonyruiz-carvalho31 I have MS, and have problems seeing at night. Laugh all you want, but you have no clue what it’s like to lose part of your vision. I couldn’t afford a new Volvo, so I bought a late model, low-mileage Mustang w/ LED headlights and fog lights. I don’t wish MS on anyone.

The Volvo had halogen lights, making it difficult to drive at night. Probably soon I’ll have to sell my Mustang, as my MS is progressing making driving difficult. I’m sorry for overreaching. I don’t get the mild hybrid name. The 2019 s60 got better mpg than this one so what’s the point? If it was close to 40 mpg then that would make it worth it
I think it slightly improved on the city gas mileage and helped reduce idle time (which is much of a bigger deal in European markets I believe, I can't think of any American or Japanese mild hybrids). I don't think it is worth it here and I think they are pointless to begin with since most people won't feel the improved response.
Mild hybrid is basically a regular petrol engine with an additional 48V battery that helps accelerating and recuperates power when slowing down. It won't run fully electric, but usually gives you approximately 10% saving on fuel consumption. That's quite a lot - especially considering fuel prices in Europe. In the U.S., you're still living the dream of cheap fuel... ;)
The Momentum is a no for me. No ventilated seat option, no lockable glove box and no rear AC vent.
I would put my 2020 Sonata limited up against the Volvo S 60 any day. At almost $20k less and it has all the features you will pay extra for on the Volvo. With the turbo four it is about as quick as the Volvo. I drove a Volvo for may years, but their price and reliability drove me out of the market. The Sonata has more passenger room and a larger trunk. And personally I think the Sonata look more attractive. The Sonata has a 100k warranty, whereas the Volvo only has 50k! But this was good review, given what you had to work with!

Delicate review Tyler, I always loved Volvos but I was never sure about them, even though I live in EU, I can also hardly imagine the competition between this car and Mazda 3, Acura ILX or Lexus IS because I have almost zero driving experience, I don’t know which has the most comfortable suspension, stuff you get for money, dynamics, but I felt Volvos were closer tome but I’m saying that with a very little certainty, I think the fact that Volvos are made in China and they aren’t that reliable and cheap to maintain pushes me away the most, but I know that I won’t be able to afford such cars for a while now xd

They are actually still mostly made in Sweden! I believe they are designed there as well. They are just owned by a big Chinese company now but they are still very much the same company. I thought the same for awhile but they really do have impressive build quality!

You finished uni, I’m still in it, until I’ll be able to afford car on my own, there are some people from Holland and Germany helping us to get a proper infrastructure here, cycling should be much more popular, and I love the trend , hope this environment caring tendention keeps going on, but to the point… When I get my car I don’t know what it will be but I don’t know why but I still consider Scion TC, when I think of what will I drive..(there are civics, corolla, mazda 3, Pontiac vibe GT, ) I mostly aim for the cheaper ones for the first car. I’m planning to do a trip after I get a car, road trip all over my country also abroad later. You can’t do that on a bike xd

@BaG - That's the part that scares me. VW makes sporty decent looking cars that are much cheaper and have good reliability.
The s60 is made in the USA. There are few Volvos made in China. But I must say this, people need to update their knowledge on Chinese built products. The Chinese made Volvos have no compromises in quality compared to Volvos built anywhere else. For the records, Volvos are made in Sweden; Ghent, Belgium; USA, China and some are even built in Malaysia and India for their markets.

Historically (with some exceptions) I think Volvos are the most well aging cars in the industry, followed by Audi/Volkswagen.
In my country -Morocco- the cars that aged the best since the 80's and 90's are Mercedes, followed by Volkswagen, then the old Renaults and Peugeot.
Volvo has been used successfully as semi-trucks.

I dearly miss the old modular engine. I think audi is one of the last (in the US) to use a five cylinder (RS3)!

$40,000+ for a car, I want a benz!
I thought the same thing. Then i realized you get less for more with a benz. You can get a 2019 benz with 20,000 miles for $40k or you can get a 2021 Volvo S60 T6 with 15,000 miles for $38k. For me, the decision was easy.

I cannot stand the infotainment system in the Volvos. It’s due for an upgrade. I was looking at an XC90 but went with a GV80 instead.
I can definitely see why some wouldn't like it. I think it reminds me so much of the way a smartphone actually works that I would take it over any other system I've used. But that's subjective, the dial systems can also work really well too like what Genesis and BMW use. Why did you hate Volvo’s unit?

Oh, I guess that is also down to preference, I found it to be at a good angle so that it was driver oriented but still easy for passengers to use. I'm not a giant screen guy so that's why I really enjoyed this!
@@iCodyonline I agree. Volvo's new generation comes around Fall of 2022. Screen will be much bigger and the interior will be different. It will only be an EV, however.

I am not so sure I like the styling of the new Volvo sedans. I wish they kind of went back to the styling of the old 240DL/760s. Those cars back then had a very elegant and sophisticated look. These new volvos have that kind of rounded aerodynamic styling like most other sedans on the market

DO NOT BUY A VOLVO! I am the current owner of a 2019 S60 T6 Inscription and the vehicle has been a complete nightmare. It is plagued with quality issues and has been in the shop more than all my previous cars were combined, I am in my late 30’s. Worse of all, dealing with the Volvo dealership network and Volvo USA has been even a worse experience. Endless circle of taking the vehicle to the shop to have quality issues and defects documented then calling Volvo USA for resolution but receiving no courtesy or care. I bought a $60k piece of crap that I do not even trust to drive more than 30 miles from my house. Asked them to buy it back or forgive my loan, would not. Asked them to give me a replacement vehicle, would not. Even though I have a service record the thickness of a dictionary on a car with 33k miles on it. They do not care about their customers unless they are selling you the car, after that you are on your own!
Does your state have a lemon law? Sounds like your car could qualify. Most people don't have issues like that with them, especially past the first model year or two of a generation so I wouldn't slander all of them for that as Toyota even has their own lemons on occasion.
@@Realistick it does but unfortunately I am out of the criteria. Would have had to act within the first 12 months of ownership. I understand that some bad cars are going to make it through. My main issue now is Volvo not making it right when there is a long documented list of service issues, many reoccurring, on a vehicle bought brand new. I have been placed in the middle of Volvo USA putting it on the dealership and the dealership then putting it back on Volvo USA. Meanwhile, me the customer is left frustrated and extremely inconvenienced, since neither party wants to accept responsibility and make it right. Dealership tells me its a engineering problem, Volvo USA needs to address it. Volvo USA keeps telling me I need to take it to the dealer and have it service again and again and again. I am left driving a base model rental when every month I pay for a fully loaded Inscription. Things continue to break and stop working, it is almost like a sick joke at this point!

@Volvo Cars you made the same comment on my original post 8 months ago. I am still facing the same issues with zero resolution. I am now spending more of my personal time to post my experience everywhere I can on social media. To inform others of the terrible experience they will face if they have issues with their Volvo purchase. Please have someone that can actually do something to help me reach out. I would love to provide them video evidence of all my quality issues. They can also review my open service ticket going back to 2019! At this point, this experience has been so frustrating that I will make it a point to inform any colleagues, friends, family to never buy a Volvo!

Audi A4 would be the best competer and most likely way ahead. Hell a good passat might be better.
Depends on what you want, this is more comfortable and inviting than an A4. The A4 has an edge on technology, materials, and definitely sportiness. I enjoy both. Outside of size, the Passat would get its ass dragged in every feasible way by the S60 haha (and this is coming from someone who used to sell new Passats and A4s).

I haven't read up on the 23 s60 but if it's like the 23 xc90, you can get the same look, just have to opt for a different package
@@Realistick the front chrome grill previously on the inscription is gone on 23 model, they also made the interior two tone is dead of three. Must be the work of those jerk woke designers.
I am an Audi guy. Based on the state of the auto industry now, I am hesitant to pay top dollar, and high interest for a car with questionable reliability. My previous A4’s were great, if you followed the manufacturer’s guidelines, particularly after 100,000 miles.
