- This is a very nutritious, gluten-free, high protein, high fiber recipe called Jowar Upma. This can be eaten for breakfast/lunch or dinner. This recipe would serve 2 adults. This dish is great for weight loss. This is a very healthy and tasty recipe that is easy to prepare.
Ingredients:
Jowar - 1/2 cup
Oil - 2 tsp
Mix vegetables - 1 cup
Onion - 1/2 cup
Mustard seeds - 1/2 tsp
Cumin seeds - 1/2 tsp
Turmeric powder - 1/2 tsp
Hing - 1/4 tsp
Salt - 1 tsp
Green chilies - 2
Curry leaves - 3-4
Cilantro - 1/4 cup

My goodness! THANK YOU!!! I’m making it for the first time, following the instructions on the bag; however, it omits the SOAKING overnight! After over an hour, I taste and could tell it’s still too firm. 30 minutes and still not there. I thought, hmmm this seems like it should’ve been soaked overnight like dry beans. Finally hit YT for pointers and waalah, alas! I’m right!!! Even the cooking directions from 1 variation to another doesn’t make sense to produce a done product. Mine has yet to pop that outer kernel shell throughout - some have, which was an indicator for me to continue cooking. I’m rinsing another cup to let soak overnight and will cook that tomorrow as a comparison for the long method I’m experiencing.
