ACC Spotlight: Is Louisville Ready for a Change of Scenery? Conference Realignment | Big 12

  • We continue our series going around the ACC to examine each school's perspective on realignment and where the think they'll end up if/when the conference does implode. With an unlikely candidate for either the SEC or Big 10, are they hoping the ACC can stick together, or are they looking for a change of scenery? Would they be happy to end up in the Big 12 if that becomes a reality?

      It almost seems if the ACC is going to exist, they need to invite West Virginia, UCF, or Cincy. Stanford and Cal teams are going to tire of the travel quick. Louisville fans seem realistic of their situation. I almost fell out of my chair listening to Va Tech fans thinking they could get into the Big 10 or SEC. It was like they had no clue how bad their viewership really was. Stadium fans are good, but they have no viewership.

      @@TheOracleOfTH-cam They have fifth of sixth in the ACC. That's not bad. It's not amazing either but they play a lot of ACCN games lately, which is hurting the average as those are generally averaged as zeros. Recall who they are playing now, in the ACC, and who they would play in the B1G or SEC though. OSU vs. VT, I can tell you right now, for certain, would do better than OSU vs. any other B1G team except USC/Oregon/Michigan/PSU and maybe a couple of others (Nebraska/Wiscy?).

    Hope you do a sit down for a Syracuse show. Suggestion: Brent Axe & Emily Leiker. As a long-time SU fan, this is all so disheartening. We’re FINALLY getting our act together with some major facility upgrades, and a new HC, who’s the top recruiter in the country, who’s pulling in top recruits, and overhauling the program in solid ways. I’m excited for this upcoming season in a way I haven’t been in over 20 years. But even if we have a stellar turnaround, are we too late? Everybody’s already made up their minds about us. 😢

    L'VILLE is in a tough situation. Unlikely to land in the SEC or B1G due to their respective preferences. If 2nd tier flight risks (e.g. VATECH and NCSTATE) remain, it's unlikely the ACC loses any schools to the BIG12. If the ACC heavily depletes out to the SEC/B1G, it likely doesn't matter what the P5 remainders do.
    It was reported that L'VILLE was among the strongest supporters of adding CAL+2, and these decisions are made by the Presidents. This suggests that L'VILLE prefers a viable Tier 2 ACC over the already Tier 2 B12. If the ACC's rebuild strategy is remaining academically branded, it may release L'VILLE on favorable terms.

    • @saturdayswarriorbyu
      @saturdayswarriorbyu  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Great point about Louisville being a big advocate of adding the the western schools, so that probably is their preference. Which is weird that they were talked about as possibly joining the Magnificent 7. Maybe those were just rumors though.

      @@saturdayswarriorbyu No. Lousiville joined the 7 as #8 the night before the ACC had a Membership Meeting. The 7 fell apart at that meeting because of what the ACC told them. But the DUMB NARRATIVE that the ACC could DISSOLVE has remained among fools that don;t know what the ACC schools (and I) know based on that meeting.

    The B1G and the SEC will not cut anyone from the conference unless they violate the bylaws. I have said that Charlie Baker had the right idea on creating a new subdivision. The B1G and the SEC move up to the new subdivision as whole conferences. That way they don't break apart their Grant of Rights. As for Louisville, they would be a great fit in the Big 12. They are pretty much the #1 expansion target of the Big 12.

      Half (if not more) of the Big 10 does not deserve to be at a higher subdivision of football. And I don't think Louisville is the lone to target of Big 12 expansion. But they'd definitely be a good fit.

      @@saturdayswarriorbyu It truly doesn't matter if they deserve it or not. This is all based upon money. Which has been the source of all this realignment foolishness. If a school can pay the tab to move up, they will so they can make more money. If they can't, they won't. Financial viability of being able to pay for NIL will determine who can move up.

    • @MercerKnowsBall

    I guess to talk about a super league is fun. Just NEVER going to happen. Sankey said as much. Do you think the Power 2 wants to slit up any of their money to lesser schools? I'm sure they are thinking about how to trim the fat they already have. Vandy, Northwestern, Purdue, etc.. The SEC has a strong loyalty to Vandy, for some reason. They maybe fine.

    • @saturdayswarriorbyu
      @saturdayswarriorbyu  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      What you described is much more likely to happen, but in the super conference plan, they said that it would be merit based compensation. Which means the top brands would make similar to what they make now. It's the Vandys and Northwesterns that would be taking big hits financially. Still not happening, but it makes it a little more realistic.

      The Big 10 will NEVER cut schools from their LEAGUE.....I don't think The B1G gives a damn what Skankey thinks or says or wants....The Severely Educationally Challenged will have to play the game to expand to a LEAGUE format WHEN The B1G LEAGUE comes into existence. Which would bring back a lot of historic, traditional rivalries and more importantly, "Regionality" again. Then you end up after LEAGUE Playoff to the National Championship Bowl between the TWO LEAGUES.

      I did not like when the old SWC went away leaving TCU, Rice, SMU and Houston out of the Big XII. I hate even more that we don't have a PAC XII to root for now. The Big East isn't the Big East I grew up watching. Now there are rumors that the ACC may be broken up or just go away all together. The one thing that all those Conference deaths had in common was more money. I don't want a super league. But after watching this for five decades. I've learned that change comes eventually. Louisville will, if it gets to that point, decide whether the ACC survives or implodes.
    Louisville is not a target of the Big Ten or SEC, but is probably highly targeted by the Big 12. After the defections leave, the remaining members have to decide if their future is better in the ACC or the Big 12. The new TV contract will play a big role.
