  • I was asked to this video about how to us the Notch feature of the XP Deus 2. I'll explain in detail how to setup, add, change, and turn off notching for each of the N1, N2, and N3 notch bars. As an example, I'll show you how to configure a notch that eliminates a nickel from being heard and I'll also show you how to determine if you already have a notch in place as well as how to remove it.

One thing I noticed with notch set as 0 is that it removes the iron grunt completely but leaves the falsing on larger iron. But if you disc up over 0 through to whatever youd like. The iron grunt is there with the iron falsing so its easy to identify

Back in the day discrimination or notching did silence the target entirely. Things have changed.
That nickel you waved over the coil was sounding off, just not with the normal nickel tone for that program.
Discrimination on the Deus II does not silence, rather changes the tone break of the undesired targets allowing you to hear said targets. For instance, discrimination of 0-10 does not silence, rather it assigns an iron tone to targets below 10 vdi. Also, notice T BREAK 1, T BREAK 2, below the notch boxes when you were notching. You are actually just changing the tone breaks, not silencing the targets you notched out.

No disrespect here but I'm not sure if you are referring to back in the day, or if you are telling me that adding a notch changes the tone breaks and discriminations doesn't discriminate out targets. If that is the case, I think you are incorrect. For instance, on the D2 check the basic Park program. It has a default notch at 23-35. If you check the actual tone breaks (pick 3 tones as an example) there isn't a tone break from from 23-35. The tone breaks are different and you can change them to whatever you want, separate from notch. Notch does silence out the undesired targets and setting a DISCR from 0-10 doesn't not turn that range into an iron tone. It just doesn't. The nice thing about the D2 is that I can change the tone pitch of any of the tone breaks to anything I want but by default 0-10 (as an example) will be discriminated that range of targets will not be heard. The Silencer and BCAPs is where you have the ability to nock out more iron if you choose to do so. Here is what the manual say's (page 16) about Notch just to be clear so others don't get confused about this comment.
"The Notch complements the discrimination: it enables a "target window" to be rejected whereas discrimination rejects all targets below a selected threshold. For example, if you detect an undesirable target in the ground, you can decide simply to reject the corresponding conductivity group and continue to detect targets with a conductivity higher or lower than those in the rejected group. If the reference target has a conductivity of 37, adjust with - and + the Notch at 37-37. All targets with this conductivity will then be silenced.
I'm not trying to come off like a jerk or a know it all about the D2 because I'm not, I just don't want other to get confused. This video was a simple video on how to setup and use multi-notch on the Deus 2. Thank you for the comment.

@@MentalMetal none taken my friend. I was talking about Fischers, Bounty Hunters, Tesoros, etc., compared to the Deus II. Apologies, I got over my skis on your basic “how to notch” video.
Yes D2 does silence in discrimination as long as your iron volume (what should be called reject volume) is at zero. Otherwise, you’re able to hear those discriminated tones by increasing Iron Volume. 0-10, 11 12 or whatever definitely provides an iron tone for anything 10,11,12,etc or below. Calabash confirms it in his Deus II discrimination tutorial video. I performed the same test with my D2 and can confirm his observations. I could change the tone of the targets from ferrous to non ferrous simply by moving discrimination up or down. I stand corrected on “notch” actually silencing unwanted targets, though I think Calabash showed it hitting iron tones by raising notch on a target. Check out Loren Lemcke’s video regarding the “secret iron unmasking trick finally revealed” regarding the use of tone breaks to discriminate with the Legend and Equinox 800, and/or the XP Deus II Secret Iron Unmasking Technique. Again, about how tonal breaks, are used to “discriminate” between ferrous and non ferrous targets. I will pull my comment to not confuse others or change the scope of your video. Thank you for all you do. Much appreciated.

Hello, I am using Deus2, but I do not know which version I should use. I downloaded version 2.0 from version 1.0, but the depth has decreased a little, which version do you think is better?

I'm still using 1.10. version 2.0 is mostly related to their new Xtreme Hunter
