Glad to hear some folks of your generation are curious for music of the past. The 80's were great, so many different styles and genres to choose from. Enjoy your musical journey!
Back on 1988..Roland would go into the Kingston Pub in Hull on a Sunday night. I was in there with three friends on Sundays...Roland was so unassuming ...A great bloke...
Most definitely!! This song is one of my all time favorites, and that's coming from a guy who doesn't do favorites ;) the thing I like the most about it is the melancholy it gives(?) me - kinda weird that I crave that feeling sometimes - sweet/sorrow? Idk...
Worked at a newspaper and received a press kit with this gem in it. I kept the cassette and wrote an incredible review that my employer didn't publish. He didn't like the music but I knew it was gold after the first few seconds of this song. FYC is pure dope. Always was and forever will be. Y'all just ain't catch up yet.💪😷💯🔥🔥🔥
It's June 2024 and this song draws me in time and time again...Makes me Happy and Sad, but it reminds me of what an absolute Timeless track it is..At some point we have all felt like this...Keep liking and Keep sharing and I will never stop listening...

@@davidgardner1067 good timing, it’s not always easy being a man. I’m not one to jump on the mental health wagon. We all have our problems in life, just amazing how sometimes people think oh you look to have everything you must be happy.

One of the most brutally honest songs ever written. Having a moment of clarity and facing one's addictions can be terrifying but neccessary to keep on going and this song captured that feeling perfectly. It slil gives me chills.
Perhaps the most timeless and emotional song by FYC. An honest-to-goodness classic with a soulful mix of 80s flow, intermittent horns, and old time blues. ✌️❤️🔮

Thumbs up to your instinct. Right place, right time as they say. Awesome song - on my top 5.
The funky drummer, the keys, the riff, the voice, the memories of those times.... Goosebumps.
A solute to James Brown.
Una joya, un verdadero cantante, la música.. un deleite

Forgotten how good this song was... how can a song by funky and sad at the same time?!
I felt the same way today when I heard the song again after a long time. Wonderful.
EMOTION AND THE TRUTH
It's that James Brown Funky Drummer sample. Always brings the funk
Joy, and gets you moving, but while being melancholy.
Hard to believe, but this song was recorded in 1988... For me it's maybe their best and it most certainly is one of the best songs of the decade.
I've always thought this was their best song tbh
even before 1988
I can hear how dance songs in the 90’s might have been influenced by this.

Lyrics
When I'm in trouble, or out of step
If my balance has been upset
Oh, there's a feeling I can't accept
There's one thing that helps me to forget
Wonder what I'm thinking
Wonder why I'm drinking
But it's plain to see
I'm not the man I used to be
If life were easy and didn't ask
Didn't tease me or take things back
I could start to understand
What makes me the man I am
Wonder what I'm thinking
Wonder why I'm drinking
But it's plain to see
I'm not the man I used to be
Oh, it's plain and it's a shame
I'm not the man I used to be
I've lost dreams that won't come back
Memories fading fast
I should save the ones I have
What's the use? Most of them are bad
Wonder what I'm thinking
Wonder why I'm drinking
But it's plain to see
I'm not the man I used to be
Oh, it's plain and it's a shame
I can't explain
But I'm not the man I used to be
It's a shame, don't know my name
I can't explain
I'm not the man I used to be
Do you know my name?
Do you, do you need a place?
But I'm not the man
