Well,it was released in 1986. This was dark times too. It's just a matter of find postivie things in your life, everyday. There's good music released, you need to dig it to find it. Here's a list from that year to put that in perspective : Chernobyl nuclear disaster (April 26, 1986) - A major nuclear accident in the Soviet Union that raised fears of radioactive contamination across Europe. Challenger Space Shuttle disaster (January 28, 1986) - The explosion of the Space Shuttle Challenger, killing all seven crew members, which shocked the USA and the world. US airstrike on Libya (April 15, 1986) - US bombing of Tripoli and Benghazi in retaliation for Libya’s involvement in terrorist attacks, increasing tensions between the US and the Middle East. Iran-Contra Affair (investigation begins in 1986) - The revelation of illegal arms sales to Iran and funding of Contra rebels in Nicaragua, undermining US government trust. Continued Cold War tensions - Escalating fears of nuclear war, particularly in the wake of Soviet and US military developments. The rise of global terrorism - Attacks by organizations like the IRA (Ireland), ETA (Spain), and Palestinian groups, contributing to insecurity in Europe and the USA. Economic challenges in Europe - High unemployment rates and austerity measures in countries like the UK, France, and Spain, creating public unrest. Eastern Bloc instability - Political instability in Eastern European countries (Poland, Hungary) amidst the backdrop of Soviet influence. HIV/AIDS crisis grows - Rising awareness and fear of the HIV/AIDS epidemic, particularly in the USA and Europe, leading to panic and uncertainty. Financial market instability - Stock market crashes and economic uncertainties in the USA and European countries, fueling fears of recession. Terrorist bombing of the US embassy in Beirut (April 1986) - Increased fears of terrorism in the Middle East and its potential impact on Western countries. Soviet military presence in Afghanistan - Continued Soviet invasion and military conflict in Afghanistan raised fears of further Soviet aggression. Rising racial tensions and violence - Growing concerns over racial unrest and riots in the UK, France, and the USA, particularly around issues of police brutality and discrimination.
I listened to them in the seventies. They matured from an angry new wave band into the band that played Golden Brown/always the sun, etc.My favourite band from the punk/ new wave era.
Couldn't agree more...I was 17 in 1982 just finishing school then 6th form college back in Manchester went to Xaverian VI form in Rusholme...funny but even then i knew I never wanted to grow up....my mother in law said I never did !!

I'm with you there mate I'm 45 now and the 80s were the best bu far the world and people were so different it's sad seeing the changes but at least there's always the Sun all the best mate
There were so many great bands about in the late 70s early 80s. This is my favourite stranglers era and this song will always bring a smile to my face. On cold January and February nights just play this and you'll know spring is around the corner.
I’m so sorry that you lost your father ❤️🩹 This song is one of my father’s favorite songs also, we actually engraved his stone with “Always the sun” and also played it in his funeral and in my wedding in honor of him. Our father’s has great taste in music. Lots of hugs to you ❤️
I am sorry that you lost your father. This is a great song. It is a pity that the Stranglers had their bust up when they were making their best songs !
Yes we always need the sun, without it there would be no life. When the sun shines on the world the world for a moment becomes a happier place, it brings warmth and comfort to those who might be feeling sad, hurt and lonely.
But the sun shines on the world constantly - no matter what, there is always the Sun... could be behind the clouds or on the other side of the planet or outside the room you are locked in, but still there.
Yes it is perfect. How on Earth it only got to number 30 in the UK chart when cr*p like the Chicken Song got to number 1 is beyond me. People have no taste.
People come into our lives and people go, sometimes forever. But in our memories it is like they still exist, they shine. And sometimes they shape us into who we are.
Because my friend these guys actually played their Instruments.. NO COMPUTERS THEN.. humans put heart n soul into their music.. No computer can do that.. their cold with absolutely no human heart n soul...❤❤
All the best bands are British! The Stranglers are one of the greatest bands of all Time! That song will never grow old....and omg this guitar rift..will never grow tired of listening it
Yo, Agree with you there mate. And that from an Irish man. Mr Boyle had it right when he showcased Brit music in the fab finale of the 2012 Olympics. This music will be remembered 500 years from now and beyond..if we are still around. It was a renaissance...music of a free people. As for this song, I love it as a "fuck it all" song after a hard year before I head off to Spain ...when you take your power back.
Yep a more care free time nowadays people are just obsessed with identity politics the youth dont seem to have a sense of humour so bloody serious! They cant understand irony and cant take the piss out of each other. And the music is just boring dross.

I gave him money and cried at the beauty of his guitar playing. He was so amazing. I did at least tell him that he was fantastic and that he. had made me happy for two years
The end of the video is symbolic and beautiful... they are walking out from the dark straight to the light. There is always the sun, never be afraid and always find the light in your heart!
