Things that flat earthers have never attempted to explain. 1) If gravity isn't real then why objects with different densities fall at the same time in the vacuum? 2) If water always finds its level then what shape oceans are supposed to be on the globe model? 3) Why cohesive force can bend water but gravity can't? 4) If the moon is very close (which supposedly explains rise and set) and it's moving right above our heads, then why its shape or face never changes duringthe night?

I've determined the earth is round while flying in an airplane, seeing eclipses, and looking through my binoculars at the moon and planets. I even saw Jupiter's four moons. You don't have to be an astronomer to come to the conclusion the earth is spherical.

First, take them out somewhere, give them a somewhat general idea where they might be, and let them find their way out using their idea of how to get from point A to point B. I see no evidence that they censor flat Earth comments. Are you looking for your comments under "sort by newest first"? If you just look under "notifications", comments are often incomplete (for reasons known only to google). And sometimes comments are not posted until minutes or even hours later, also for mysterious reasons.

A drop of water is made spherical by tension applied equally along it's surface, when you want to form clay to a sphere you roll it equally on all sides, when the pebbles wash ashore they are usually spherical in nature because the oceans punished each of their sides equally. When force is applied equal from all sides in 3 dimensions, you mold whatever it's acting on into a sphere, this is not a disputeable fact, but a mathematical truth. No looking at horizons or sending ballons into space needed, this you can know is true simply by thinking about it. Considering this, how could the earth ever be anything but spherical, when a sphere is the only shape it could take to equal out the forces acting on it? If it's not a sphere then how come my feet carry me just as easily in Europe as they do in Asia? How can the force I feel be equal everywhere in the world, but the shape of it not uniform? It's constant upwards acceleration on a disk shaped world? But then we forget orkham razor, and is the world being a sphere, as a result of its' forces acting eqaully upon itself, not an endlessly more simple and beautiful solution? I've never been in high enough altitudes for the curve to reveal itself, or bothered to watch a ship disappear over the horizon. I once had a couple of dates with a person before I found out they were a flat-earther. A friend warned me that flat-earthers and conspiracy theorists tend to have trust issues and are high suspicious of everyone and everything beyond just having healthy skepticism. On our third date, I was surprised with a trip to a flat earth meeting in my local area. The people there seemed nice enough, but their non-scientific approach to explain answers was really uncomfortable. I'm no way a scientist, but find aspects of science interesting. Hey, I watch NOVA on PBS, enjoy Neil Degrasse Tyson's opinions on different topics and mostly listen to my doctor. I just found these people and my date to be operating in a different reality based on their own set of "facts" and beliefs. A long story short, I wasn't really into that person I had dated and could foresee us getting into some uncomfortable discussions and unavoidable arguments.

Did anyone notice what this Astronomer actually said? He said it is hard for him believe it is flat and not spherical. That's his problem... What was the highly scientific and iron clad proof this Astronomer offered to prove earth is a sphere? He gave the same 200 year old explanation my 5th grade school teacher provided. Question: “What about the disappearance of ships as they sail over the horizon?” followed by, “You can see the hull of ships go below the horizon as they drop below the curvature.” Answer: Quality zoom lens available today can focus on objects at greater distances. We relocate a ship long after it disappears beyond the horizon or our line of sight. You can view the same vessel clearly traveling atop the surface of flat water. With a powerful zoom lens, you can see the entire ship many miles away, long after it should be below curved water. The explanations we were given in our elementary schools at a young, impressible age, were flawed but effective. And our perspective did not change on the subject beyond these plausible explanations we accepted as young students. This explanation is flawed for two reasons. (1) The surface of water never forms a concave or convex shape. (2) With a quality lens we can see the same ship that disappeared, and we can clearly see the ship atop the flat surface of water. Using a good telescope, you can also see more flat water behind the ship we thought had gone over a curved surface of water. The surface of water never conforms to the bottom of its' container. Rather, the surface assumes a flat and level posture everywhere on earth. Just because Astronomer Dr. Stuart Clark cannot believe the surface of water is always flat and level, doesn't make that fact untrue. Oceanic waters covering a large portion of earth is proof positive, earth is not a sphere, because the surface of water does not ever follow the bottom surface of the same body of water. The top surface always forms a flat and level surface. If earth is the shape of a ball, the oceans could not exist. Yet, oceans exist. The only explanation for oceanic waters, is a flat plane with a massive land mass surrounding the oceans. What size is earth, and how far does it continue pass the Antarctic circle in a 360 degree continuation beyond our known lands and seas? We know Antarctica is a solid land mass and has elevations of 10,000 feet above sea level. Our oceanic waters are well contained... But, how far does our container extend beyond our barrier?
If a ship disappears to your naked eye, but reappears with a telescope, it's not over the horizon, but only too small and/or dim for your naked eye to resolve. Once a ship or anything else is over the horizon, no optics on Earth can bring it back. Or can you bring back the Sun after it's set completely? One sunset shows that the Earth cannot be flat.

You can prove I am correct with a high quality zoom lens at the beach this summer! Light Houses are along shorelines everywhere on earth. Ships have often spotted lighthouses 60 miles out to sea, by their own account. I assume you know the curvature calculation where the miles in distance are squared times 8" to determine declination based on a 24,901 mile circumference of earth. In short, we can see too far if earth is a sphere of that size. Based on a lighthouse 60 miles away, the lighthouse should be 60 X 60 X (8") = 2,400 feet below the horizon. That is .454 of a mile below the expected curvature. How can ships see a lighthouse 60 miles away if the lighthouse in almost 1/2 mile below curved water? I have personally watched large ships disappear from the horizon, used my zoom lens, and relocated the ship long after it was beyond the curved surface of water, based on what we were taught. There are many TH-cam videos showing the exact same result. But, recently TH-cam has made it hard to find them. More importantly, the surface of water is always flat and level. Nowhere on earth does the surface of water have a concave or convex surface. That's simply common sense!

I too have seen several such videos. and they all show the same thing: a ship that vanishes from sight to the naked eye or unzoomed camera is claimed to be "over the horizon", and then it's zoomed back into view. As I explained, it's only possible to "bring back" a ship if it's not over the horizon (yet), but merely too far away for the naked eye (or unzoomed camera) to resolve. These flat Earther videos never continue filming until the ship disappears completely, which it will always do eventually, if it's sailing away from you. There are many videos on TH-cam showing ships sailing away, gradually being cut off from the bottom up by the horizon, and finally disappearing from view. Or you can make your own, if you can manage to wait longer than most flat Earthers seem to be able to. And no, the "vanishing point" does not explain ships going over the horizon. The vanishing point is not some kind of magic that can vanish objects that are in a direct line of sight. It's simply a mathematical construct, where parallel lines seem to converge to a point in the distance. It does not explain ships that are big enough to resolve several miles away disappearing, and it does not explain sunsets. Why can't you "bring back" the Sun after it's completely set, if it is always above a flat Earth? Your example of the visibility of lighthouses at sea leaves out several factors. You forgot to figure in the height above the sea of the observer on the ship, atmospheric refraction which is almost always present over water, and possible reflections of the light from clouds (which often play a role in record-breaking distances). You might want to look up Walter Bislin's Earth curvature calculator for the correct math. And while it may be "common sense" that level and flat mean the same thing, they don't. Water looks flat to us, because the Earth is so big that the tiny amount we can see from the ground or any height we're likely to reach (if we're not astronauts) is indistinguishable from flat to the naked eye. But a theodolite- or a sufficiently long water level- can show us the drop of the horizon because of the curve of the Earth. If you search TH-cam for "horizon drop at varying altitudes" you'll find a demonstration of a long water level that's easy to build, that clearly shows this. I think we should start by asking a pilot what they think. If there in the sky, are they flying over a flat surface or spherical surface. They would be able to clarify the question.

What forces do you know are acting on it, that are not simply forces you assume due to your assumed model. As already explained there is no way water would take a spherical shape unless it is fully contained within something spherical, without a space containing less dense material such as air, in which case it would flow to the bottom of the spherical container and the air to the top, resulting in a flat surface.

On our third date, I was surprised with a trip to a flat earth meeting in my local area. The people there seemed nice enough, but their non-scientific approach to explain answers was really uncomfortable. I'm no way a scientist, but find aspects of science interesting. Hey, I watch NOVA on PBS, enjoy Neil Degrasse Tyson's opinions on different topics and mostly listen to my doctor. I just found these people and my date to be operating in a different reality based on their own set of "facts" and beliefs. A long story short, I wasn't really into that person I had dated and could foresee us getting into some uncomfortable discussions and unavoidable arguments.

Just because Astronomer Dr. Stuart Clark cannot believe the surface of water is always flat and level, doesn't make that fact untrue. Oceanic waters covering a large portion of earth is proof positive, earth is not a sphere, because the surface of water does not ever follow the bottom surface of the same body of water. The top surface always forms a flat and level surface. If earth is the shape of a ball, the oceans could not exist. Yet, oceans exist. The only explanation for oceanic waters, is a flat plane with a massive land mass surrounding the oceans.
What size is earth, and how far does it continue pass the Antarctic circle in a 360 degree continuation beyond our known lands and seas? We know Antarctica is a solid land mass and has elevations of 10,000 feet above sea level. Our oceanic waters are well contained... But, how far does our container extend beyond our barrier?
If a ship disappears to your naked eye, but reappears with a telescope, it's not over the horizon, but only too small and/or dim for your naked eye to resolve. Once a ship or anything else is over the horizon, no optics on Earth can bring it back. Or can you bring back the Sun after it's set completely? One sunset shows that the Earth cannot be flat.

Light Houses are along shorelines everywhere on earth. Ships have often spotted lighthouses 60 miles out to sea, by their own account. I assume you know the curvature calculation where the miles in distance are squared times 8" to determine declination based on a 24,901 mile circumference of earth. In short, we can see too far if earth is a sphere of that size. Based on a lighthouse 60 miles away, the lighthouse should be 60 X 60 X (8") = 2,400 feet below the horizon. That is .454 of a mile below the expected curvature. How can ships see a lighthouse 60 miles away if the lighthouse in almost 1/2 mile below curved water?
I have personally watched large ships disappear from the horizon, used my zoom lens, and relocated the ship long after it was beyond the curved surface of water, based on what we were taught. There are many TH-cam videos showing the exact same result. But, recently TH-cam has made it hard to find them. More importantly, the surface of water is always flat and level. Nowhere on earth does the surface of water have a concave or convex surface. That's simply common sense!
@@davidwest2963 Yes, I wrote that with a straight face. And yes, your explanation is fabricated, either by yourself or (more likely) copied from some flat Earther video. I too have seen several such videos. and they all show the same thing: a ship that vanishes from sight to the naked eye or unzoomed camera is claimed to be "over the horizon", and then it's zoomed back into view. As I explained, it's only possible to "bring back" a ship if it's not over the horizon (yet), but merely too far away for the naked eye (or unzoomed camera) to resolve.
These flat Earther videos never continue filming until the ship disappears completely, which it will always do eventually, if it's sailing away from you. There are many videos on TH-cam showing ships sailing away, gradually being cut off from the bottom up by the horizon, and finally disappearing from view. Or you can make your own, if you can manage to wait longer than most flat Earthers seem to be able to.
And no, the "vanishing point" does not explain ships going over the horizon. The vanishing point is not some kind of magic that can vanish objects that are in a direct line of sight. It's simply a mathematical construct, where parallel lines seem to converge to a point in the distance. It does not explain ships that are big enough to resolve several miles away disappearing, and it does not explain sunsets. Why can't you "bring back" the Sun after it's completely set, if it is always above a flat Earth?
Your example of the visibility of lighthouses at sea leaves out several factors. You forgot to figure in the height above the sea of the observer on the ship, atmospheric refraction which is almost always present over water, and possible reflections of the light from clouds (which often play a role in record-breaking distances). Also, your equation for the drop of the horizon describes a parabola, not a circle or sphere. It's a useful approximation, but becomes increasingly inaccurate after a few tens of miles. You might want to look up Walter Bislin's Earth curvature calculator for the correct math.
And while it may be "common sense" that level and flat mean the same thing, they don't. Water looks flat to us, because the Earth is so big that the tiny amount we can see from the ground or any height we're likely to reach (if we're not astronauts) is indistinguishable from flat to the naked eye. But a theodolite- or a sufficiently long water level- can show us the drop of the horizon because of the curve of the Earth. If you search TH-cam for "horizon drop at varying altitudes" you'll find a demonstration of a long water level that's easy to build, that clearly shows this.

They understand very well that gravity is the easiest way to debunk flerf, that's why they immediately decided it was fake.
I think we should start by asking a pilot what they think. If there in the sky, are they flying over a flat surface or spherical surface. They would be able to clarify the question.
And they will tell you that 1° over 70 miles is not going to produce any noticeable tilt (24900 miles / 360° = approx 70 miles)
They'll also tell you that all flight paths require the haversine formula to estimate the shortest route on the globe.
There are many interviews with pilots saying earth is flat , as well as polish and Russian cosmonauts admitting on camera. All you have to do is question everything.
