    I get it now! I'm a big, scary-looking dude with very visible tattoos even on my hands and face, and people are so surprised when they see me smile, which is a lot. The moment someone notices me doing or saying something kind or generous, they seem to gravitate towards me. I always wondered how, as a very socially awkward person, I've been able to effortlessly make friends. I guess I'm a walking contradiction.

    • @felity1773

My wife was supper opposite of me. we never found a single common ground, not even 1 nano meter. I liked sex she didn't, I liked watching movies, she didn't, I like being loyal, she didn't, I liked to communicate and be straight forward, she liked to stay silent and expect others to do telepathy. It only lasted there was negative chemistry between us, we had chemical reactions always.

    Something as simple as a smile or a laugh, or a bit of a joke, to make light of some common public situation like standing in a boring queue or squeezing past one another on a narrow sidewalk... can do exactly what you're talking about. It totally breaks us out of our modern habit of marching along, head down, nose buried in a smartphone - as we have been conditioned to do. I know this doesn't sound like doing the opposite of what others expect, but sadly in today's society it is and on the occasions I have done so I find people respond as if it's a breath of fresh air.

    I mean Shrek and Donkey are fictional and writers just wrote whatever they wanted. Still, I agree that sometimes opposite people can make it work. It really just depends on circumstances. In life, all relationships are based on some benefit or codependence of some kind, I think. Especially for long-term, when you see people together there's a reason. Sometimes they're related or one person is financially dependent on the other, or they work together and are forced together. A lot of people don't want to be with each other, but eventually learn to like each other. It's very complicated.
    Personally, I think many different personality types can make it work, but it can also work with two people that are the same. I don't understand people who say they need strong and weak personality all the time to make a relationship, especially romantic ones. I disagree you need that contrast in romantic relationshops, even though it is often promoted by society. How come with pets we like to associate with similar people but jot with romantic? I personally prefer people the same to me. I come out more when I'm with people that are similar personality-wise.
    American culture seems to promote sameness and oppositeness in random ways. For instance when it comes to bossy and strong women they seem to promote being with another strong and bossy man, instead of being with a softer and obedient man, which might work too, but our culture doesn't promote that. That's an example where sameness is being promoted where opposite could work. Another example is when media always shows contrast and variety of people in movies or TV showd, but in real life, similar people might have made other kinds of things happen. I guess what I'm saying is that it doesn't matter if you have a relationship that is same or different, but that they are both powerful and I encourage you to use both and not just one or the other, life is what you make of it.
    Anyway, I think there are various combinations of aiccessful relationships, so you can have opposites, or sames, or exact same and all combinations and still make it work. Still, it's been my observation that whatever yku pick, nothing will ever be perfect and overtime most people want out, but stay together because of commitment and maybe that's the definition of love.

    • @whataboutthis10
      @whataboutthis10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Bruh the video is totally not about relationships or any 'opposites attract' stuff.
      It's about one's *own* opposites, not to find them in others, but to develop them *in yourself*
      It's about 'attraction' - not necessarily sexual even - that would develop towards you if you amplify your own opposites. She's just explaining that working on breaking expectations of the first impression you tend to induce would enrich your personality. And people would find that endearing.
      Nothing to do with who you should be choosing as a partner. It's quite established how important common values are for a relationship anyway.
      If anything, it would follow from her point that you widen your own aspects, so in turn you don't have any need to "search for opposite in others to complete you", because you already fill that role in the process yourself

      @@whataboutthis10 Yeah, that makes sense, I didn't thinknof it that way. Another idea is realizing that you can be whatever you want to be and can like whatever you like and can try and give others a chance and be accepting of yourself and others in ways that are unexpected. Thanks for sharing.
