This applied to me in highschool. Everyone thought I was the nerdy kid who only learned a lot and they were extremely suprised when they found out I am actually pretty good at sports, active and pretty much at the same level with the ones who attended additional football(soccer for americans) training.

This makes so much sense because the idea of cliques and cool girls is a lot stronger in the US and other anglo saxon countries - where i grew up (France, mostly) the culture is not as bad. I wasn't popular but I was invited to most parties. It was more about who you liked and disliked individually rather than herd mentality. And the coolest girls were girls that were genuinely kind to everyone, not passive aggressive bullies. But yeah explains why French people dgaf about Taylor Swift. 😂

And year after, Taylor Swift made a song saying "don't mind all my ex lovers, saying that I'm insane", what can even sound like a criticism about other toxic women, but *she dressed the character on herself*, what contradicts completely her "hero" narrative.

In the tech world, this is what the lean startup movement is about. You launch something imperfect, gather feedback from customers, make changes and repeat. You can't know ahead of time what customers want, and any assumptions you make could turn out to be false. To avoid that you need to build the minimum viable product (MVP), which is a small and imperfect version that can test if your assumptions are correct, and it's something customers will pay for. Even though people have been talking about this for 15+ years, many companies still do it wrong. They spend months or years building something, and only then talk to customers and find out it's not what they want 🤷‍♀️

and then there's me, who almost immediately recognizes marketing ploys like this, which makes me feel a stronger sense of *dislike* for whatever they're attempting to sell. there have even been a few times where i initially *wanted* to buy something, but i found the marketing for the product so underhanded and manipulative that i no longer wanted the thing at all.

Honestly, same. Profoundly tired of nostalgia marketing, and not particularly prone to this emotion myself since I easily remember how many things were really bad in the "good old times". As well as how many things are way better today, even if the world is in chaos - but when hasn't it been? In my head there's no golden safe space to return to, even if I do treasure certain memories. Granted, this is still an excellent advice that will work for the majority of one's audience, unless nostalgia becomes somewhat of an anti-trend, given how more people speak up about how sick they are of it.
