    Natural ability is very real tho. Anyone can be a dancer with hard work and time, but some people are able to move very specific muscles or copy a string of moves without even thinking about it while others need lots of practice and proper coaching to achieve the same thing. Anyone can learn to draw with hard work and time, but some people can draw something from memory despite never having drawn it before, or draw very detailed pieces without sketching or using guide lines, while others have to go through a lot of practice, repetition, and referencing to get to the same level. Anyone can learn to sing or play music, but some people have naturally perfect pitch while others are naturally tone-deaf. Admitting that there's a difference doesn't necessarily mean making an excuse or setting limits to yourself (altho that's unfortunately often the case). Rather, I think it's important to know for yourself whether or not you have a natural ability in something and in what way, because that helps you know what training methods will work best for you

    With that last set to Iwa, I believe, Oikawa broke through those barriers you talked about earlier. So inspiring, even that he lost the game, his brain(mentality) switched to his full potential in that moment.

      I agree!
      There is something about raw adrenaline mixed with pure unfettered desire for victory that can make you surpass your normal limits and do incredible things. I'm so sure that is what happened there.

      He also crashed into some very real physical barriers and even slips on the tablecloth. In a testament to the the level of detail by the animators and the original creator. It's just *french kiss*.

    "Six who are Strong are Stronger"
    Remember those words. It's the line that Haikyuu lives and dies by. Of all the leasons, that one is the most important. It's not individuals who are strong but the multiplication of power that comes from teamwork. Seijoh may have lost but Karasuno will carry that into the future for a long time. As I said before, Seijoh was the rival that promoted the most growth. Basically the Gary Oak of our prefecture.
    Now for something lighter, Suga is a valuable asset on the team because he fullfils three different roles at once. Pinch server, setter, and floor defense. Add his strategies and yeah, he's deserves to be there. And with the pool at Karasuno being so small, it's really important.
    You wanna talk about faces. My favorite expression is in the next episode. I call it Oikawa's demon face. Worthless pride, my ass. You go on, King!!!
    Thanks, Cast. I enjoyed the reaction.

    Oof took me some searching but I found it: in one interview Furudate admitted that they actually really "fell for" Oikawa's character in the chapter with this crazy toss :") The line about talent and sense they actually came up with the week they were working on the chapter, but the order used to be the opposite and they changed it last minute!

    14:07 The coach in that flashback is saying more or less the same thing you are, but the way the Japanese tend to phrase these conversations is a little unnaturak to English speakers.
    His speech about "some people are just better than you" is a theoretical. His argument is that you could only say something like if you've literally tried everything as hard as you possibly can.

    Oikawa is one of my favorite characters in all of anime and this episode definitely deserves to be on that “best episodes ever” list. There’s just so much to talk about in this episode. From Mad Dog’s save after it’s passed into the net displaying how much he’s evolved during this game. He doesn’t just fight for himself anymore, he fights for his team. To Oikawa surpassing his limits with his insane set to Iwa. This episode has so many insane moments. Personally, I love Kageyama’s dump. Mostly because it parallels a shot in an episode in season 1 (it might be “Oikawa Tooru is not a genius”, but I can’t recall off the top of my head). Oikawa looking up at Kageyama truly shows the fall of the “Great King” and I live for these kind of moments.
    I also wanna call out your personal development as well. You said in your S1 Ep1 reaction that you weren’t the kind of reactor who jumps around and screams, and while you’re definitely more contained then other reactors, I love how you were just trying to hold yourself back during this episode. As someone who hyperfixates on things, I love getting to see your reactions and your analysis of this anime

    There is a thing that not a lot of people pick up on in this episode, and it's the fact that oikawa, throughout all of 2 seasons kept going on and on about how he can't do insane sets like kageyama and in a subconcius sense he cant adjust on the fly and do things on instinct like him, that he can only fight by being way better at accommodating his spikers and planning things out perfectly (of course barring mind games and when he's forced to adjust) but during this episode, this very episode in the last moments, he makes an irrational instinct call to iwaizumi, someone that was on the exact opposite side of the court when conventionally and and physically it would make sense to set to the closest (right side) or the middle but instead, he chooses his best friend and ace when the ball was off, finally making an instinctual insane twisting crosscourt quick set to the left. This is, as a volleyball player, what I live for and why oikawa is my favourite character, making wild plays at the heat of the moment when you never thought you could, that and his general character is why this episode solidified why oikawa is my favourite character.

    you are still pretty behind in the haikyuu journey to really get Furodate's meaning of talent. i'll try to explain it in a way that is spoiler free.
    Furodate with haikyuu tries to explain that talent is complex and there are countless type of talents. For some people like ushijima and Kageyama is crystal clear. They were called geniuses from the beginning, simply because their talent is easy to understand. ushijima is tall strong athletic, left handed. Kageyama is tall, athletic and has unmatched accuracy with his tosses(something oikawa can't replicate nor going close to replicate). But there are also other type of talents that need time to develop. there is a couple of players that you will see in the future thata weren't geniuses from the start, but their talent made them getting better than anyone else making them at the end "geniuses". there are other players like Hinata that can seem talentless, but in reality Hinata is full of talents, he just couldn't use it in the right way because he needed training to learn how to use his tools. When Oikawa makes the last set says "talent is something you make bloom instinct is something you poolish". He is trying to finally make his talent bloom and at the same time knowing that even if in the end it could never bloom he still would be able to poolish his instincts and being better than before. in the end " today might be the day to grasp the chance to let your talent bloom, maybe tomorrow, the day after or the next year, maybe even when you are thirty, I'm not sure if physique has anything to do with it, but if you think that it will never come, it probably never will.” Oikawa Tooru.

    In the last point, noya's required to switch out because he'd be rotating into the front row which liberos can't do, so hes replaced with hinata who can go into the front. Libero rules are kinda weird with when they switch in and out.

    You really summed it up perfectly during that discussion after the person's speech to oikawa, as a person who has had the same mindset that oikawa did because of circumstances, yes it used to be a very good way out from reality because it helped me cope that i couldnt achieve this/that, but I'm living and learning so was able to break out of those mental limits, thanks to although as absurd as it may sound, Oikawa. 15:30 You were very right on this one too, if you go back on the last karasuno seijoh matchup, oikawa ended with saying that kageyama will probably surpass him someday, he wasnt also very expressive at all over his win back then, because he still had the looming cloud of fear above his head that kageyama will beat him, but on this time around, even though he lost, he is past that because of the realization that "Talent is something you make bloom, instinct is something you polish". This quote will forever stick with me.

    I think that is one of my most favourite clips in Haikyuu - where Oikawa points at Iwaizumi and just long-sets that ball before taking down a table with his whole body. Then he just gets up as if he didn't even notice. He was so into the game that moment and it always made me admire him more. It's a moment where you can really see how much he cares about the game he's in.

    8:57 FYI, it wasn't that Oikawa's serve knocked Daichi on his ass. Daichi intentionally did the back roll to absorb the momentum of the ball. You will see this happening again in S4E22 and it is, IMO, the most epic moment in Haikyuu!!.
    Since you just mentioned that you just finished S3E4, I will say that many consider Tsukki's kill block the most epic moment, and they're not wrong, but it's only #3 on my most epic list.

    14:39 Again, you're wrong about what "natural talent" is. Natural talent is something that you're born with. It has nothing to do with experience. That is why it's called "natural". What you're referring to is skill set. And that comes with experience and training. That is why Oikawa trains so hard, to improve his skill set, to try to overcome his lack of natural talent.

    I just want to say I can't get over how galaxy-brained you are. You make these analyses and predictions that become relevant in a later season.
    I noticed it in season 1 when you made that organ system analogy and talked about how having "that one moment" will change things for you and make all the struggle worth it. Now here you're making a thesis on "natural abilities" that a character will echo in SEASON FRICKIN' 4. (I saw on Twitter that you're done with Haikyuu, so I guess you know who I'm referring to.)

    The topic of talent will continue on until the final battle of the series, which hopefully won't get cut out from the finale movies. (God, there are so many perspectives, philosophies, and backstories left in the manga... and i think these conversations and inner monologues will be cut out of the movies to give way to the "hype" moments, which is a shame).
    Every person is different, and some people are born to do better and faster in certain aspects of life. Kageyama's a volleyball genius, but an idiot in almost anything else. As a not important spoiler: Kageyama doesn't know how gravity works lol. The story of Haikyuu and so many characters, is that talent is real, but that doesn't mean you should despair or kill yourself trying to copy geniuses. It's about polishing your own strengths, and being the best version of yourself.

    13:15 It's objectively true, so if you don't agree with it, then you're just plain wrong. Kageyama, and another setter from season 4, are naturally better setters than Oikawa. Oikawa's volleyball IQ is higher than both of them, but in terms of athletical abilities, they are just plain better. That is why Oikawa is never considered a "genius" at volleyball, as great as he is.

    • @CastSenpai
      @CastSenpai  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I just don't agree with someone being "naturally better than you since the day they were born."
      There are people like Hinata that *sort of* applies too considering height, but Oikawa could become a better physical athlete given enough training, I feel. He isn't naturally unable to become like Ushiwaka (other than the guy being left handed lol)

    • @erict1628
      @erict1628 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@CastSenpai You're still confused about naturally abilities and skills. Natural ability is something that you can or cannot do. Skill set is something that you can pick up and improve on. Hinata's hops is a natural ability, something he's born with.
      Remember the conversation between Bokuto and Akaashi in S2E10 after Kageyama and Hinata finally connected on their new freak quick set? Bokuto said they should try that and Akaashi said that they should never try it because Akaashi can't pull off such a set. He doesn't have the ability to do it.

    • @CastSenpai
      @CastSenpai  ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@erict1628 Not confused. Just fundamentally disagree. I take Akaashi saying he can't do it as "it would require too much time/effort, and I can't guarantee I can pull it off". I am of the opinion there are very few things people CANNOT do when they put their mind to it.

    • @prashup5rk527
      @prashup5rk527 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @CastSenpai I believe natural skill here is the ease with which you can pull it off in a sense. Sure, Oikawa can absolutely pull off anything Kageyama can. But it would take him considerably longer to do it since Kageyama is naturally skilled towards it. Natural talent is more of a head start but it can be surpassed with hardwork which Oikawa does time and time again
