  • RWBY, the fairly popular 3DCG "anime" by Rooster Teeth originally created by the late Monty Oum is easily one of the most controversial pieces of media ever created, especially considering the reception of every volume past Volume 3. So many criticisms from Ruby being a bad main character to poor animation to the bad use of the butt metal soundtrack, but I still struggle with the truth that even though the series is undeniably bad...I still don't hate it. In fact, I think I might be a fan...

Obviously, I don’t hate it, But I really don’t like the Rwby series is just isn’t healthy, reminds me, and ruins life, so I just can’t stand listening to Rwby remind is make me Frustrated, so I just draw design Rwby, all character design was horrible… so I’m done watching it and I never watched it ever again.
Then I just want to figure out about rebooting Rwby fanfic, just wanna be better by myself. Trying to be like the epic dramatic real world, not just the same reference original. I’m Physically thinking of for my Story fanfiction “RWBY Earth” Sci-fi, horror, and action. I’m just so much better healthy myself.

I'm in the middle, and I love it what it is. Nothing is perfect and never was. It's just a show that I really enjoyed. Yes, there are people who made a terrible execution. Just look at what happened to Star Wars and Naruto. Yes, I do respect their opinion, but everyone is too afraid to like the franchise. For the weirdest reasons. I like the character design, and I like the world they try to build. If only they do it better. That's how we grow and I don't care about love or hate. I just wanted to enjoy the community.

I think the fixation on rwby criticism comes from the fact that it has mountains of missed potential. Personally, rwby is the most frustrating show I’ve ever seen. Not the WORST show, the most FRUSTRATING. Because I don’t get angry with a show just for being bad, I just wouldn’t care. But rwby has so much potential that is staring us in the face, but the writers seem incapable of noticing it, and that’s frustrating to watch.

It is definitely a story with a lot of missed potentials. The people making the show themselves don't really seem like the most capable of using the potential. I've seen a lot of RWBY fan works that better utilized the potential. The heart of the series is the fight choreography and the weapons designs. Official RWBY ran out of good fight choreography really fast, and they truly only had a handful of really good weapons designs that match the spirit of the show. Crescent Rose is the poster child of RWBY weapons designs. It's great. But hers is the only good one of her team. Myrtenaster isn't even a transforming weapon. Gambel Shroud and Ember Celica also are less-than-stellar designs. Nora's grenade hammer is another good weapon. And that's about it, from the top of my head. I've seen a number of fan designs that are way better and match the quality of Crescent Rose better than RT's own designs.

As someone who only sees RWBY every like 5 years, I honestly don't get how this show got a fandom that was as loyal as it is...
The "potential" argument also, honestly I feel like you can say that about ANY show that turned out bad in the end. Every show would be better if it had a better written story, characters, exposition, or world building, and it just so happens that RWBY has problems with... pretty much everything.
I mean, it's really telling how bad the show your watching is, if it had writing problems, literally the moment characters started talking
      (Character trailer: Black)....
As an outsider, it legitimitely feels like RWBY is the biggest scale gaslight to ever exist in fiction.

I have a love / hate relationship with RWBY.
One hand, I see the flaws and firmly believe that this series has loads of potential, but the writers just don't know how to get there. The other, I fell in love with the initial concept of the show, Monty's beautiful choreography, and the iconic main characters. I just can't...let them go. Despite how different the show is now from the first few volumes, there are parts of RWBY that I still adore.
As much as I want to give up on the show, I don't want to. They got me so wrapped up into the story that I absolutely wanna see how it ends. No matter what, i'm still gonna be a fan. I'm happy someone else feels the same way lol

The tricky thing with being a legitimately good writer is that you can't just do occasionally good writing. Any idiot who's read books and is fluent in a language can write bits and pieces of good writing. Heck, I can do that. I can even spout random bits of what appears to be good writing out of my butt. The real mark of a good writer is being able to put all of the bits of good writing together into a cohesive narrative and world that has consistent quality and professionalism. It's like the test of time, or testing the integrity of an entire structure to see if it's stable. It's no good if only sections of the structure are stable. The entire thing needs to be, otherwise it collapses.
Ask me to write a five minute short story, and I can do it with quality and without much effort or time. Ask me to write an epic fantasy spanning an entire fictional world that is meant to go on for ten years...and I'm going to tell you to shove off, because I can't do it. I'm currently working on my own thing, but it's taking a long time, and I mostly just write bits and pieces here and there to fit into the timeline. Problem for RWBY is that RT can't do that. They don't have time, and they can't afford to just write bits and pieces of good writing.

    • @ShadeSlayer1911
      @ShadeSlayer1911 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

@@itsblitz4437 The show built its original popularity with its action sequences. Such a show doesn't do so great when you try to instead carry it with a massive drop in fight quality in favor of mediocre storytelling. It's a bad trade deal. But it also was never going to sustain itself with just good fight sequences either. Most of the original amazing fights were just reskins of what Monty had already made. But at the pace that the show was going, they were going to run out of that material really fast, and it's not easy to keep making more material of the same quality. They really overextended themselves from the start. A company like RT was not prepared at all to keep a show like this going. If it was just meant to be a 1 and done season, or maybe 1 season every five years or something (like how a lot of anime do not run new seasons every year), then maybe. But they were way too ambitious with what they wanted to do. They lacked the writing talent to make the story work, and they couldn't keep up with the animation demands either.

You’re so right for the whole “if you’re going to spend this much time making fanfiction and especially if you’re just remaking the story’s foundations from the ground up, you might as well make a new story of your own”. I’ve had friends who wanted to make RWBY AUs/Rewrites and I just tell them that it’s better to put their creative energy into something new rather than fix someone else’s mess. RWBY has problems on a fundamental level so any change would be drastic and it would cease being RWBY at that point. Part of its identity is how flawed it is and to change that makes it not feel like RWBY anymore. 😂

And it was then that I realized 50% of the things I know about the world of RWBY aren't from the show. . . They're from a mixture of Miles' panel answers and fannon. I was answering questions constantly and when they asked when a particular subject was brought up I just looked at the ground and realized 'never'.

RWBY has really high highs and pretty low lows, and even as a die hard fan to this day I can't ignore them, but I don't think calling it mid or garbage is a fair assessment. The show is fun, the show has cool fight scenes and you can enjoy it for that and accept that not all of it is amazing or even good. It also has a dope soundtrack that does a mix of spoiling and fleshing out the story & characters years in advance. I think a lot of the newer fans miss out on the early days that you got a considerable chunk of the story through the ost - so when they just binge it either ignoring the ost or listening to it after the fact, some of the magic and plot gets lost. They aren't exactly sitting with the songs for months analyzing them while waiting for the next volume to drop, piecing together teases and the character's inner monologues in the meantime.

    Massive wall of text incoming:
RWBY is more disappointing than being the worst thing ever. There's great things that still shine through the all of the messy parts, but the messy parts at times can be so messy that it really leaves a bad taste in your mouth because you know it could be so much better. I think the reason why people feel so strongly about RWBY is BECAUSE of those actually great moments, which makes it all the more frustrating when the show can't be consisy. Btw, I became a fan when Volume 5 aired and I remembered when the fanbase almost all unanimously agreed it was the worst volume. And then Volume 6 happened and everyone got divided over how good or how bad it was and it only got worse from there. RWBY doesn't make me mad, it's just really disappointing because the moments when it's really good showed that it could have been more than it was even with how shoddy the first couple of volumes could be at times.
But honestly, I like to think people hate RWBY less for it being what it is, but more for the company itself: Rooster Teeth. Not only with how RT itself treated RWBY as well as their other animated series in general, but also with all of these controversies about the more notable figures in the company such as Gray Haddock (Torchwick's original VA) and especially Ryan Haywood being terrible people as well as the terrible treatment of various staff that aren't the faces of RT itself, which further left a bad taste in everyone's mouth and further caused even more vitriol. RT itself ever since the late 2010's or even earlier than that have tried to prop themselves as a company as big as all of the other higher end professional companies they're competing with, and yet in some regards they still go about doing things in an unprofessional manner, such as how rushed many of the finales end up being. People don't hate RT for being unprofessional: people hate RT for being unprofessional as the company itself tries more and more to come across as such only to struggle to do so.
Personally, I still hope that even with it being clear that RWBY would never be the show everyone hoped it could be, that MAYBE, just MAYBE it could end off on a good note. It won't automatically redeem the show or anything and it sure as hell won't make up for how CRWBY has been treated, but I still want to hold onto hope that MAYBE this show could still be entertaining despite how disappointing it's become and that I can remember this show for those amazing moments as opposed to just the messy parts and everything surrounding not only it but also RT. I truly don't hate RWBY. I just hate everything surrounding it and I also hate that I can't love the show. I just want to enjoy my stupid American anime with girls with weapons that are also guns killing monsters, dammit! XO

As for the rushed feeling. I feel like part of it is backlash from the criticisms that volumes 1-3 are light on plot. Volumes 4 & 5 feel like they should have been 3 volumes instead of 2, as volume 5 has our main group (team RNJR + Qrow and oscar) sit and twiddle their thumbs waiting for the rest of the plot points to converge, when they should have been going on a mission to protect haven from grimm due to the shortage of huntsman while the rest of team RWBY gathers to meet them and Team WTCH is plotting and doing their thing to get them killed on mission. THEN have volume 6 be focused on lionheart and the battle of haven.
It's supposed to end on the halfway point and the way the show was paced previously as trilogies makes the following volumes feel cramped, rushed, and bloated... precisely because they got tired of people complaining about things going too slowly, especially after volume 4.
RWBY has, from the start, been a show with a huge cast of characters and a lot of moving pieces going on in the background, but shows with big casts need room and screentime to breathe - something you're not going to get in 14 episodes where at any given episodes there's like 30 characters need to be doing something.

Thing is I don't hate RWBY, I just feel nothing anymore. It makes me feel little to nothing. I can't even watch RWBY if it's not watching someone else watch it. I can only really get enjoyment from watching someone else watch it. Well I guess I do FEEL something when I try to watch it but it's.....distress and woe. Like even trying to watch the parts I like makes me surprisingly upset given I simultaneously feel nothing, but I've found watching certain people watch or recap it is the only way I can enjoy it with any....enjoyment. Unfortunate but starting with Volume 4 and ending with Volume six, I just hit a breaking point I didn't expect. I wasn't even involved in the community till the Adam fight in Volume 6 where I was legitimately confused why they were trying to act like Blake and Yang were an item, let alone even had a relationship of any kind. That's when I found out there was a whole lengthy spreadsheet of ships and that the people involved just like them together and claim it was "planned" when literally nothing was set up beforehand if you watched without being tainted by shipping. I mean I didnt ship anyone really but Blake and Yang were not a good pair because they have no build up and progressively got worse as characters so seeing them togther other than "being 2 girl" means nothing and gives nothing. Very strange but it is what is when it comes to this show. I mean they are trying more NOW but it's way too late in the game to matter

    • @jaernihiltheus7817
      @jaernihiltheus7817 หลายเดือนก่อน

Yeah, bmblb was entirely them caving to shippers midway through. Monty stated that none of the 4 girls would date each other, blake & sun have multiple songs together in the ost, and the 1 blake x yang song (titled "bmblb") was added to the ost with a statement by the composer that it was a non-canon "just for fun" song. As opposed to all other RWBY songs which were canon POVs from different characters - acting as inner monologues and teases for different plot elements (often both).

I walked away from RWBY fom the simple fact that it has been a decade now and the story is nowhere close to its endgame. And I get that there are series and shows that drags its story like it's the same weight as the iceberg that sunk the titanic, looking at you One Piece, but even those gets to retain their audience in the form of monthly or weekly releases while RWBY does none of that. Even if there are problems with the characters, the setting, or the entire story for that matter RWBY still wouldn't have lost the interest of its audience if they didn't drip feed the damn thing like its nectar from the gods. If Rooster Teeth actually had a concrete plan for this show current year RWBY would've been drastically different in both production value and content release.

I genuinely feel insane whenever people talk about rwby, too many people just parrot one another but never actually say anything other than "it fell off after season 3" as if season 3 itself wasn't the only highlight from the original seasons before monty died and as if season 4 and most of 5 wasn't already planned before his death. I get the dislike of seasons 4 & 5 and how it could paint a bad view of "oh this got worse after his death" but honestly I don't think there was anything that could have been done for those seasons. Monty was a phenomenal animator and conceptual designer but I do not believe his death affected the overall plot like some people seem to think.

Whatever I write there is no way that it can be worse than this!" Plus, the template of a very flawed yet established world works well as training wheels for a writing noob who wants to write their won story (I think).

If they’d get their heads outta their asses and just make some good games finally then we’d honestly have a strong fandom. Also I believe that Ice Queendom should’ve been a rehash of the first 3-4 seasons but in a quicker and more cohesive way. So new people can get into it without the suffering

  • @Voxovan
    @Voxovan ปีที่แล้ว +18

Never thought I'd comment this under a RWBY video, but I pretty much agree with everything that you've said here. Well, there is one exception - it's not only the people who were there for the Red Trailer that are the only RWBY fans that stick around to this day. I came across this series years ago through fanart, when I checked what it actually is and saw it's some Deviantart-tier MMD show about fighting girls I was all like "nah I'm not watching that". But recently I saw they actually improved the animation a lot in the most recent seasons and decided to give it a try. So me, a grown-ass 23-year-old man, binged all 8 volumes in like a month, and loved every second of it.
But here's the thing - I knew what I was getting into. I knew it was a show with crappy animation, I knew I should not expect it to have groundbreaking writing, I was watching it for pure, dumb fun. And that's exactly what I got, with some genuinely good moments here and there. For that reason alone I simply cannot hate on this show. It's as you said - it's like watching a school play, you never except it to be good, but don't hate it for what it isn't, might as well just enjoy it for what it *is*. I think people who overly hate or praise RWBY seriously need to touch some grass and realize what kind of show they're watching.

RWBY is one of those perfectly ok shows.
Although I do think the critics have gotten a little lazy in the past two volumes. Eruptionfang used to be one of my favorite to watch, but then he started making really odd mistakes and getting really angry about them. Like how he thought Penny not.being able to see Tyrian at the rally attack was plot convenience, but it was shown to be Watts hacking her. Or how he thought the writers were trying to make people think Penny was actually dead after Amity and that it was a fake out death. When Winter actually told everyone Penny was alive and flying towards Atlas and Watts, also explained what she was doing after that when Cinder was threatening him.
It's definitely got flaws, but those weren't two of them.

The problem isn't that RWBY is bad it's that it's sometimes bad and sometimes it's good, so you can never quite say "oh this is just bad, I'm done" because every know and then it'll be good and you'll be like, "is this good now?" but it's never 100% either way. I remember actually eehhh-ing when Blake told Ruby she admired her. Of course after a while it did occur to me that moment should have happened several volumes ago. At this point I just want to watch it to the end, whenever that will be, so I can remember the good parts.

For real, I'm a person who was there at day 1, I watched the Red Trailer at it's launch. When Volume 1 came out, at the bully arc, I said "I'm outta this shit" and then just ignored any new Volumes. When Volume 4 arrived and there's ads on Crunchyroll, I said to myself "Is that actually RWBY?" And then I watched It all again, Volume 1 to 5 (volume 5 was the last one out at that time) and I really think that RWBY got better after Volume 3??? 4 - 6 it's... ahm... good?, and 7 - 9 It's legit good? I mean, I'm really hyped to see where things are going, and that [SPOILER ALERT] >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
Yang and Blake confession episode was so fucking good? I mean, I was not a bumbleby shipper and I legit cried watching that scene.
For me RWBY fans are trying to see RWBY at something it will never be, and I'm not saying this "something" is literally "being good" I just think that RWBY is good in the way they are writting right now. I just think people got used to hate about anything in the show, and rn, even when there's no need to hate and hyper critisize, they will. Cmon, there was people hating on how Yang defended Blake in Ruby's mental breakdown. Something that is literally first response to anyone. If was my bro attacking my gf and saying shit to her, I will defend her instead of being sorry about my bro.
What I'm trying to say is: I'm a day 1 RWBY fan (kind of) and I really enjoy where the show is going and I really hyped for Volume 9 plots and future volumes.

The worst movies in existence aren't the ones that people hate en mass; they're the ones no one remembers in the first place, the ones that don't even have a cult following. I'm far from a diehard fan or an uncritical viewer, I just like RWBY. And I find so many of the criticisms to be accurate, but far overblown. There is SO MUCH mediocre media out there that RWBY getting chastised as often as it does is odd to me.

I’ll say now as an OG former fan of RT my hate for the series is my understanding and escalation of my expectations for the series especially since RT decided more and more to be a bigger company.
With me allowing themselves v4-5 as a sort of a leeway period to let them settle themselves. But from v6 and onwards it’s always the same issues if a lot of promises, but failing the landing every time and learning more behind the scenes stuff just frustrates me.
And I always elaborate I hate Rwby not the people behind it as I now find the series to be well more trouble for everyone than it’s worth.
Side note I think people should pursue to surpass Monty in animation ability. I doubt he’d ever want to be seen as the ceiling. Otherwise then there’s just no where else to go and no one else will ever create such scenes like him which is not true.

1:30 I discovered RWBY for the first time when V5 was still going (or at least was the most recent one), and I suppose I'm an abomination, because I haven't watched any critique videos in... I don't even know how long (I certainly don't remember any of the actual critiques, although I know in general what people complain about) and have thoroughly enjoyed the entire journey (as you see most reactors do as well) and don't feel like anything has gone down in quality (other than action scenes, which I think are pretty good, but not as good as Monty's). I'm gonna copy-paste my comment from the AI presidents video. It's pretty short, but it's my view on RWBY.
Throughout V1-V3, I really enjoyed were the characters, action scenes, and the setup for future seasons, but I loved the show more each volume. I got into it pretty early, but my interest skyrocketed when they introduced everything about the maidens. The story and characters just got more and more interesting to me each volume, and V8 is probably my favorite volume so far (with V7 being a close second), although V9 might overtake it, we'll see.
The early volumes were great (aside from the animation, obviously), but contrary to a lot of people, my interest and love for the show just grew and grew the further into the show we got. For me V1-V3 have become less interesting to watch as time has passed, mostly due to the later story becoming far more interesting and intriguing. I still enjoy watching V1-V3 for the characters, action, and story setup, but I far more enjoy watching the later volumes because of the greater plot. I absolutely love shows with a grand story, and that's what RWBY has become.

I totally agree with what you said about "if you're going to spend this much time making fanfiction and especially if you're just remaking the story's foundations from the ground up, you might as well make a new story of your own" , I've been working on a RWBY tabletop RPG for a few months (almost a year now), the reason for the delay was (besides some personal issues) I'm looking for any and all kinds of supplemental content, canon or not, like novels, games, Fairytails of Remnant, mangas, etc. My philosophy for this RPG is "I'm not going to rule out ANYTHING", at most I'll retcon past concepts, events and how some things like magic and aura works, imagine the story as if it were a "what if", it takes place at the same time as the show and I'll give freedom to the players to change the course of the narrative, thus being able, for example, to avoid the death of a character, or bring an antagonist to their side.
(Btw is just wanted to say that, since i'm brazilian i had to pay some absurd prices to import the books and novels from the US, being a RWBY fan in Brazil is just pain)

I really love that Popsicle Stick analogy. Because some Popsicle Stick Houses are nice to look at. They won't function as a real house, but they're still nice to look at. And I think that sums up RWBY pretty well; a series that I enjoy watching that does well enough for what it is.

I just finishes the latest volume of RWBY too, and I gotta say, it really does give me hope for the next volume. I genuinely think it would be very hard for the writers to fumble the bag with all they’ve set up so far. What do I think of RWBY as a whole? It’s…..fine, it’s not bad but I can’t say it’s great either. It takes 4 steps forward but 2 egregious steps back for a lot of it’s story ideas and concepts. But Volume 9 may have just restored my slowly regrowing faith in the show in a very major way, I still like the show after all.

RWBY has been the biggest disappointment and blue-balling experience with a story I've experienced in my life. Every volume past 3 has one or two moments every volume that actually make me feel invested in something, be it a character moment or story beat, then at the end I feel something similar to post-nut clarity.

Honestly, my thoughts could be best summarized as “It’s fine.” I enjoy the show, it’s plot and characters, and I also realize that it’s heavily flawed. At the end of the day, it’s fine. Not great, not awful, just fine.

I kind of see myself as in the middle. Like I first jumped on RWBY just around the time of Monty Oum's death, and I thought "Oh wow. No way this is gonna age well." And in a way I was right. Volumes 1 and 2 felt like a rushed mess where the main characters felt sidelined for Jaune's story. And then some idiot I used to be friends with spoilered ALL OF VOLUME 3 FOR ME BEFORE I EVEN GOT THE CHANCE TO WATCH IT! So I found myself dropping the series entirely up until around volume 6 was airing. So I picked up from where I left off and I found myself actually invested in the characters, I found myself enjoying the story even if it meant no more stupid high school shenanigans which was the original draw of the show, and just recently I have gotten over my petty childish dislike of Jaune and find him to be hella relatable. I may not have been there since Day 1, and I get a lot of the problems people have with RWBY's narrative. But I'm 35 years old now, and find myself caring very little for a lot of things nowadays. So when something as amateurish and trashy as RWBY is still able to make me -feel- some kind of emotion, I can't bring myself to hate it. Hell, I'll add more salt to the blasphemy I'm spewing: I liked Justice League X RWBY and thought it was fun! Fight me!

Yeah, when I introduce RWBY to people, I literally tell them that it's not that good. Like a solid 7 at the best of times, a solid 2 or 3 at the worst, and most of the time, like a 5. But it's still, unironically, my favorite show. In no small part due to the fact that it can, repeatedly, make me cry. Somethin that very, VERY rarely happens. And I genuinely think it's those moments that make the more mediocre ones worth watching.

  • @armzngunz

I binged the series quite recently. Had nothing to watch and remembered "Hey there's this show people were talking about years ago, maybe I should give it a shot", so I got crunchyroll and started watching.
And to me, it's like The Legend of Korra or The Clone Wars, quite decent, if not actually good shows, despite having parts that really stops them from being as highly regarded as Avatar: The Last Airbender or Arcane. Sure, the animation wasn't that good initially, and some seasons felt slow, some fight scenes may have been clunky, and a few writing choices weren't on par, but still I was hooked. I often see people saying (or making videos) that shows like RWBY (or Korra) are "garbage". I don't think they actually care about objective criticism, and only focus on ragebaiting and negativity, for whatever reason.

when the shield girl died you can tell whatever story they had building up to that point just fell off. at least, thats how i saw it at the time and how i will forever see it. then when i was told (late around season 5 or 6 i guess) that monty died i finally realized why the fight scenes felt so bad to watch. i just gave up. i dont openly hate on rwby but i do realize it will never be what i thought or wanted it to be so i had to let go. but i hold out hope that maybe one of the remakes out there will do the story justice in a format my adhd brain can digest.
i dont read but i heard the manga was the best one so far.
TLDR: i wasted my time and energy on rwby.

Rwby is a show with sometimes good and sometimes dogshit writing but hey, I like the characters, designs are good, and it’s usually just sorta a fun time. Like I can shit on the show all I want but at the end of the day I’m still watching it when I’ve probably dropped “better” shows after less time so there’s clearly something there. All things considered this is probably the rwby review I relate too most

I want so badly to just drop it, but I've been following the series since I was 12 so I can't. I need to see how this trainwreck ends.
And as you said, I keep holding onto hope that it'll be good because there *are* good aspects to this series, but for every good writing decision they make, five terrible ones are sure to follow 💀
I just want to see it through to the end and maybe, when it finally dies, I will be released from the shackles this cursed series put on me

RWBY has been a rollercoaster for me. Back in highschool this show was the greatest thing ever. Incredible humor, charming and lovable characters, strong female leads, and great action. At the time I thought the story writing was ok; I didnt notice how bad it was back then. Then volume 3 got legitimately great on the story front and I fell in love with it even more. But then the animation, pacing, humor, and character personalities mostly flew out the window in volume 4 and 5 and I got bored and exhausted of it. Major things I loved the show for were just gone, although I wasn't too cognizant of what was happening at the time aside from the animation issues. The first half of volume 6 was incredible (second half was fine), and it made me realize just how much better the story could be, and could have been. That's when I really started realizing the show's flaws. However from then on the show kept getting better with every volume (imo) until today, with volume 9 just being legitimately great.
I think the show is truly decent now, although it's still not really the show it originally was, or it originally promised. Its strengths and weaknesses are different now. It's kinda found a new identity to call its own, and even though it's not the show I fell in love with, it is the show that I love now, and I'm going to stick with it.

For me honestly, it's been hit or miss, and given the direction of Vol. 9 it might be my final make or break point. I enjoy the world of RWBY, heck I've written two fanfic books and a fanfic anthology within the universe and I have fun with elements of it. But between the general not-great environment of the FNDM and the fact the show is not making the best writing decisions while having mediocre fights (also the fact they forced BB and while that in and of itself isn't a dealbreaker it does remind me of a former toxic friend of mine which isn't fun) it's just not the same show I fell in love with years ago. Granted a lot of that could be attributed to losing Monty, but even then I don't know. I'll still work with ideas from the world of RWBY because I have fun writing stories in that world. But for the show proper? Who knows. Heck, who even knows if WB Discovery will greenlight any more volumes? I don't know man. I've seen a few comments that echo similar thoughts in my head. I don't hate it, I've just become more and more ambivalent towards it and am starting to drift away from the main show.
Although I do agree, RWBY Chibi is peak.

At this point I watch the show out of morbid curiosity to see what preposterous thing they try next.
Though I did find it frustrating when that one guy at roosterteeth (I don't know who) was essentially patting himself on the back for what they did to Ironwood. Trying to make it seem like a stroke of genius by invoking the "road to hell paved with good intentions" proverb.

my feelings on rwby can be best summed up with "everyone should have taken a break after volume 3 or 4." (long rant incoming, i'm sorry)
i will always defend volumes 1-3 of rwby on the grounds that it was one of those stories that you scribbled together in highschool and just got around to make it real. it was simple, stupid and fun. and volume 4 was a legittimate good first step after monty passed away. but then volume 5 happened.
all the background shit like Shane's letter and the many scandals of RT aside. volume 5 was the one volume that told me the show was starting to lose itself. episodes became the same lenght but nothing would happen, characters talk a lot more but most of the time they don't say anything useless it's plot revelent and any personal drama is shoved to the wayside because "we're pressed for time, we need to have this story going"
like sure, there's really good scenes in the later volumes but it's bogged down by writing mistakes brought by the writers wanting a "bigger" story. Oscar and Ironwood scene IS great but this was caused by the heroes not trusting Ironwood for... reasons? (and the less i talk about the butching of penny, the better). i haven't even watched volume 9 but when i saw the compilations of team rwby just being funny in the first 2 episodes, i was surprised because i can't think of a part pass volume 3 where the girl where having "fun".
RT could have prevented this... but they didn't and now there's a change of never being concluded now that they are begging people to use an hashtag to "greenlit volume 10"
