  • Today we're replacing the valve body and original oil and filter on this 03 Volkswagen TDI Jetta with 435K on the clock to try and solve a torque converter shudder.
    I used a reman off eBay but another great option is an upgraded/improved valve body from kansascitytdi.c...

    ❤I want to say Thank You Very Much! You are the first video I've come across actually showing how to take off this piece of equipment. Days of searching for the right valve body and not have their hands in the way. 🎉 Thank you again❤.🎉😂

      I know what you mean, filming upside down under a car is a bit of a trick

    Thank you! Your video was a lifesaver. I was having a hard time figuring out how to reassemble the portion of the shift linkage that connects to the plunger, and there was just enough detail starting at 14:30 to help me get it sorted out.

      Glad it helped, wouldn’t be the first time I’ve looked back at my video to see how it goes back together

    I'm definitely not looking forward to this. I did however buy the high dollar valve body with a new harness, the tool to pry the connectors off the old valve body along with a new oil cooler, o-rings, filter, gasket and spacers. Wish me luck gentlemen.
    I'm kicking myself in the ass for pulling my 03 MKIV sedan with the 1.9tdi alh mated to a 5 speed manual and trading it for a same year, same generation wagon but with this blasted transmission.

    What were your initial symptoms why did you install the valve body? I have an '01M automatic and it just started slipping

    • @JoshsJettas
      @JoshsJettas  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      A fluttering torque converter lock up. At highway speeds it would constantly gain a few hundred rpm then drop back down. I think this trans was to far gone though, it made it better but not right.

    Ambitious undertaking Josh. Wouldn't it be better just to buy a rebuilt valve body? ( not trying to be smart but that's a lot of work you putting in there).

      This comment is in regards to the 01m I did or the 09D shift kit? This 01M did get a “refreshed” valve body although I have my doubts on the quality of work, I’d of liked to get a sonnax valve body but wasn’t in the budget.

    Hey nice video man thanks a lot. I have a golf with the same transmission that shifts late from 3rd to 4th, I did a couple of fluid changes and changed the transmission filter but it's still doing it, the transmission will also slip from 1st to second when cold. Do you think replacing the valve body would cure that late shift from 3rd to 4th? It also downshifts 4th to 3rd when you get under like 50km which is pretty annoying, not sure if it's supposed to do that or not but yah

    • @JoshsJettas
      @JoshsJettas  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It might help with the slip but I’m not sure about the 3-4th. These transmissions really leave a lot to be desired

    Josh, I have a ‘13 Jetta TDI that I needed to replace the valve body on it. I got another valve body but now the car won’t change gears or start even. How do I reprogram it.?

  • @amitbhusal2510
    @amitbhusal2510 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Does it needs to be coded or adapted? I replaced with a used valve body. Do I need to recode it ?

    • @JoshsJettas
      @JoshsJettas  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      There’s an adaptation that can be done through vcds, there’s also posts where people do the key on, foot to the floor ect to reset it.

    Just picked up a 2000 Volkswagen tdi automatic… first automatic Volkswagen and it only has reverse haven’t really had time to check it out since I work outside and it’s cold as heck but it’s started to warm up and I’m getting ready to check it out any tips? I’m gonna start small like filling it with atf if that doesn’t work possibly next easiest step speed sensor but if that doesn’t work what ya think? Definitely don’t wanna do a trans swap

    • @JoshsJettas
      @JoshsJettas  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Scan for trans code, try fluid if that doesnt work then the valve body. These were fairly poor trans that got neglected usually (as seen in this video)

    Josh. How did that valve body changeout work out. did it fix the issues. Ive the 01m and used valviline max atf. I also removed the trans cooler and ran a 12000lb rv trans cooler in the front of the engine. The problem with the 01m is infrequent oil changes, the trans always runs at 205 215F which is a fluid killer over time especially since they modulate the torque converter lockup creating heat.

      Truthfully I wasn't happy with the repair, it still seemed to occasionally do the surging. It shifts quite well now and he's happy with the performance but i think its days might be limited (especially after seeing all the metallic material and possible original fluid). I guess time will tell.

      Love the 25 row cooler I installed, usual temps now are 150-170 whereas before it was like 215-230 all the time.
      Basically like a 70 degree temp drop on average and even more, as I've seen 250 on the old setup.
      Mines had the fluid changed like 4-5 times in its 140k mile life ,but i do need to swap in a new internal harness.

    Thank you! I was trying to figure out the connector part. Had it all apart but couldn't get the harness bracket off. But I'll just unhook them all and leave it attached. I was having a moment 😂

      No problem, the simple stuff can sometimes be the most frustrating, which ends up making things worse.

    I have a 1994 audi cabrio. Wont shift into 4th/overdrive. If it does its at high rpm. Any idea? My guess is i need a new valve body, solenoids, filter and fluid.

    • @JoshsJettas
      @JoshsJettas  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That’d be my guess, I believe this one had its damage done to the trans already judging by the filings on the magnet. It’s still going but isn’t 100%

      Mostly speed sensors g38 and g68 ... the wiring fails somehow , theres a TSB from VW about it, you'd usually have to an overlay harness for each sensor but VW discontinued the harnesses , so you could DIY yourself. But get the car scanned first

      Line pressure.
      Really shouldn't mess with it unless you've got the gauges to read pressures.
      Most pumps don't like when the pressure is increased and will fail from it eventually.
