In this video we dive into the inner workings and repair procedures for the extremely problematic VW 01M (096) and 01P (098) valve body.
These problems include flared or harsh shifts, torque converter shudder, Codes P0740, P0741, failed transmission solenoids and internal wiring harness (ribbon). The usually result in further transmission problems such as burnt clutches and failed torque converter clutch lining.

Volkswagen introduced the 01M transmission specifically for their Cabrio, Jetta, Golf, GTI, New Beetle models produced from 1995 to 2005, and transverse engine Passats built between 1995 and 1997.
This 01M transmission is a 4-speed automatic transmission that combines hydraulic and electronic control, featuring a lockup torque converter. It utilizes planetary gears, gear-driven drive with an open differential, and clutch packs. Notably, the 01M transmission lacks an internal chain and doesn't have a dipstick, a design choice by Volkswagen to prevent owners from inadvertently adding incorrect or subpar transmission fluid.
On the other hand, the 01P transmission variant is tailored for minivans and minibuses, capable of handling higher torque loads. It's typically mated with engines up to 2.8 liters in size and is commonly found in vehicles such as the Winnebago Rialta, VW Sharan, Ford Galaxy, VW Transporter (T2/T4), VW Eurovan (Transporter T4), MB V-Class (2.8L 2000-2002), and Seat Alhambra. Hello...just enjoyed your 'little brick of misery' video of the 01m valvebody. "Looks" easy....as long as you know what you're doing!
I'm writing you to give mea little guidance regarding my '02 jetta 1.9 tdi with the 4 speed auto 01m transmission that is giving me trouble and suspect, from watching the video, you would have a pretty good idea what is going on. As the car gets to the higher gears, 3 &4th, at a set speed, the rpms will surge about 75-100 rpm...then back...the up...etc.
I have 321000 and have replaced many of the parts myself, so I hate to have to get rid of it.
The original tranny was replaced under warranty by the original owner...not sure when, although I bought it with 144000 on the odometer.
Anyway, I'd love to hear from someone with your , obviously, intimate knowledge of these problem children.
Also, I have ordered a filter and fluid to do the 1st of a long overdue service...kind of a hail Mary.

Hello. I have a problem with the CUG gearbox of a VW EUROVAN 2.5 from 1995, petrol. The problem is that the gearbox is stuck in 3rd gear. It starts and drives only in 3rd gear. The reverse gear works properly. After connecting the computer, I have error 00262 solenoid Valve 3 (n90) short to ground. What should you pay attention to to eliminate the problem? I measured the valve resistance and it is normal. Thanks for the tip. Regards

Hi, what could cause a kick in the change from first to 2nd and 2nd to 1st at low rpms, the same engaging the reverse?
It could be a worn valve body
Hoping for u a well being. I have mark X and has a gear issue when the mechanic opened the gear he could not make the spring combination if it is possible you can send me a picture of the combination or let me know how to do it. Highly appreciated
