Daw Man. These look like really cool crabs. Shame they are expensive and live for only like a year, also how much did you pay for them in total?

We got 3 that were on sale for about $35. Shipping was $25, so it was $60 total. This video is actually almost a year old and I'm sad to say the crabs didn't even last 2 months. 1 died within the first few days for no apparent reason. The other 2 were alive and well for several weeks, but we only ever saw them once in a while (they hide all the time). Then after a period of time, we never saw them at all and when we went to upgrade our tank less than 2 months later, couldn't find them. In hindsight, I wouldn't recommend them. They're cool to watch when they're out and about, but they literally hide 99% of the time. Even if they lived the full year, I don't think they're worth having.

@@theoverdrive1 Damn dude that sucks. Sorry that had to happen to you. I wish they would tell you their lifespans. Also the other two might have climbed out because they are known escape artists or maybe check up on that betta because from my experiences with betta fish they are hostile.

We had a lid and the water level was low, so it was pretty unlikely that they escaped. Our betta is female and has gotten along with everything we put in the tank with her. She saw the crabs numerous times and left them alone, so I'm pretty sure she didn't hurt them. The retailer I got them from was pretty clear about their lifespan, so I knew it was going to be short. I think they probably died from stress given how populated our aquarium is. Nothing would bother them, but I think the sheer number of fish put them on high alert 100% of the time (which is why they were hiding so much).

@@theoverdrive1 Sorry you had to go through that. Did the water have enough calcium because they need that to be able to molt or they might die otherwise. If you still want freshwater crabs I suggest you go with Panther Crabs, Link to care and info here: aquariumbreeder.com/panther-crab-detailed-guide-care-diet-and-breeding/

Yes, we had ample calcium pellets that they would regularly eat. None of them survived long enough for us to see any level of molting. I think panther crabs might be too big for our aquarium; we have too many smaller fish that I think the crabs would feed on.
