- Pom Pom Crab (Ptychognathus barbatus) is a rare fully aquatic crab that is suitable for a community fish tank.
Its distinguished features are the tufts of hair on its claws, which it uses to trap and grow food for its consumption.
The pom pom crab is a peaceful omnivorous scavenger that is with a wide variety of tank mates. It also doesn't rip out plants unlike other crabs (such as the panther crab).
In terms of personality, it is active and not shy. In the video, we can see that it often comes out to the front of the aquarium. In this aspect, it is a better choice than the Thai Micro Crab, which is very shy and often hides.
For care, it needs a stable cycled aquarium, with plenty of algae and plant matter for it to feed on. In addition, it should be kept with other peaceful fish that will not attack it.
I've got 3 of these guys and they always are hiding under rocks and wood, I think that's because my tank has sand so they like to burrow a lot lol. 75$ for 3 guys that don't show up (I don't regret the purchase though)
The crab can use those anemone pom poms as a weapon or for defense.
Those aren't even anemones you're mistaking it for the SALTWATER pom pom crab this is the freshwater pom pom crab
That's cool
Nice
Can it live without aerator ?
I think it needs aerator for oxygen. It is fully aquatic.
