    This is a really good explanation! My main issue with these crabs is that they're all captive bred - I remember researching them and it said that microcrab babies never really survive past their 9th day, and so all Thai microcrabs are sourced from one river in Thailand which to me feels super unsustainable :( If someone manages to figure out how to breed them I'd love to get them but until then maybe not.

      Thank you! If someone REALLY REALLY REALLY wants these microcrabs and are willing to provide them with a good home, I have no problem with them getting them as who knows who'll have the first ever successful captive breeding and is able to spread that information around. But I think as fish keepers we have an obligation to sustainability as our beloved fish all came from those waters that would be otherwise lost.

      I’ve read these are super easy to breed tho. I had a friend who has had these things for years in his tank they must be breeding. I would try keeping them alone in a proper set up, or just not keeping them.

  • @Hijiinx_
    @Hijiinx_ 4 ปีที่แล้ว +20

    I ordered 20 of these little guys a few months ago, and they're still alive today! I've got a small 6.7 gallon tank with a gentle flow filter. After a lot of research, I'd learned that they do really love hiding spots. So, when I was setting up my tank, I placed my dragon stones in a way that created a lot of little cavities. They seem to love it!
    I did have a similar experience with the tank mates, unfortunately. I had a couple of golden White Cloud Minnows in the tank, and shortly after I placed the crabs in, I noticed someone was missing a claw. Had to move the fish to another tank, but luckily, everyone seemed to recover just fine. If anyone else is planning to have these crabs, I do agree that it's worth having a tank dedicated *just* to them.
    I have my best luck seeing them when my lights are off in the evening, though they do sometimes just get curious and come wander around for a bit. If you're worried about not having enough room in your tank, trust me, YOU HAVE ROOM. Like I said, I got 20, and I still have a hard time finding them! Awesome little crabs though, and hardier than you'd think. I highly recommend them if you're curious!

    I'm considering getting some of these for my 29 gallon. I know I'll probably never see them lmao! But I think they're neat.
    It's a community tank, but all nano. Ember tetras, otos, blue velvet shrimp, scuds (trying to get the scuds under control rn), and a few kinds of snails. A little concerned about the ember tetras, but the most aggression I've seen from them towards other species was a non-lethal nip on a young shrimp once.
    If they don't work out in this tank, maybe I'll try a species tank in the future!

    Ive had these guys a couple years. (Footage on my youtube & insta @LaPReptiles) Theyre awesome. I have a 5.5g tank for about 30 of them, which is perfect size to see them while allowing them tons of hiding space. Mine have escaped multiple times and ended up in my tetra tank next to it. Also they attacked my mystery snails to the point i had to seperate them. They eat my bladder snails too, but those were pests that snuck in on an onion. Genuinely awesome pets to have though

  • @wirtification
    @wirtification 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

    I saw these and do have a 5 gallon shrimp and snails and endler babies grow out tank. It would be perfect except for the lid, so I'd have to get an acrylic piece to customize, so no escapees, lol. Would need a precise notch for the thermometer cord and very teeny air holes for air exchange. I'm definitely going to think about it. My issue is also the sustainability 😢

    I found a micro crab after a year. I didn’t buy it, it came in on the plants (the only reasoning I can think of) it’s quite big now (2inches long including legs) so I’m not sure if it’s a micro crab? But has hairy legs and must be fully aquatic. It tried eating my new mystery snail, but I rescued it in time. Even though I had a massive mystery snail in there since the tank setup a year ago. I’ll just have to wait till it’s girth gets a little bigger I suppose

    I know those claws are tiny, but I've seen crawfish snip plants, always makes me nervous. I think my pentazonas would love those microcrabs, for dinner. I'm going to try daphnia. I'm going to put some out back in some natural green water and hope i can get them to live in my tank long enough to be beneficial before the pentazonas and yoyos eat them.

    Try micro crabs, scuds, daphnia, infusoria, seed shrimps, in a community tank , all of them will balance each other out, I do feed them with chick pea, green pea powder and yeast, spirulina and always keep a peace of cudde bone "for calcium". With this combo I get free food my my other fish on a daily base.

    Adorable! Thanks for the video, Irene! I’m in love with the reddish-purple broad leafed plant on the left hand side @ 3:15 - what is that? ❤️🌱🐟

      Grace S Thanks so much! Just placed my very first order with A Co-op (currently lost in USPS world but waiting patiently - Absolutely no fault of A Co-op given their super speedy shipping!) and should’ve added one of these - Just another excuse to order again 🤣
