In this imported fish unboxing we lose 132 fish. Dead fish are never fun but I feel it's important to show both good and bad shipments instead of just cherry picking and only showing the good ones. The majority of the losses were the zebra danios. The Lemon Tetras, Silvertrip Tetras and Monk tetras fared well. The rasbora hets had a few casualties. Cory, 132 out of 2200 is way better than the 50 to 100 per 600 I unboxed every Tuesday and Friday as I paid my way through college working at a small pet store almost 4 decades ago.
While the UV sterilizer the owner purchased my last year was considered avant garde, nowhere near the attention to detail nor the attention to quality of life for the fish. The biggest benefit was she would let employees pay her in advance for our own special orders and we almost got the fish at cost (it was like cost +10% to cover shipping and admin costs). Plus, you take much better care of your employees. I was working for a little over $3.25/hour and no health benefits...
I see too many stores just throw new fish right into their tanks for customers to purchase. So glad you take the time to quarantine the fish first. Worth any extra money the customer has to pay.
Love that my LFS quarantines all fish a few weeks before selling. Also won’t sell fish from a tank that has anything until well after treatment is completed. Price also costs more but I’ll gladly pay a bit more for healthy fish.
I don’t even think my lfs does that and they are known for the best fish in my state. Unless the have more space in a different area or stuff that I can’t see. Considering the survival rate of the fish I buy they probably do quarantine

Yep, the fish we supposedly dote over are oftentimes treated no better than their dollar value to the final customer. This is why common feeder fish, danios, etc are pretty much the bottom of the barrel in our hobby. I'll bet you'll never see Discus or Asian Arowanas "abused" before, during, or after shipment due to their relatively exorbitant price tag.
I agree, ...but not all people view Danios, as bottom of the Barrel... some of the natural color variant strains, of Danio Rerio, are actually very expensive because of their rarity and all the work put into creating the different variants. Though, most people are unaware of all the varieties that have been created because they are hard to find, like the Picaso variant

I love how you medicate and quarantine the fish first. It's nice to see a business actually care. My local fish stores don't do anything. I hate seeing dead fish in all the tanks. Or almost all. I spend a fortune on meds trying to save the fish. I usually lose half of them, sometimes all of them anyway. Usually within a few hours of bringing them home. Some die in the bag before I can even get them home. The owner of my lfs acts like I'm an idiot for spending so much on the meds. Smh... Really annoys me. I wish there was a better store near me. As it is it's almost a half hour drive one way.

It's so sad to see so many Zebra Danios dead. I love Zebras, it's my favorite fish. They have so much character and are such fun compared to many other tropical fish.

This happened to me recently in the store I work in . We imported 100 big ear guppies and 300 mix guppies from Indonesia and about 20% of the fish were dead when we opened the boxes 😕 shit thing is that as a store you have to take these kind of risks when you order from overseas

So sorry for your loss ☹️ I personally have not had long term luck with zebras. Especially neon zebras! You are such a caring person. What kind of fish would you put with the fiddler crabs? Would they attack coryadoras? That order that came in might have been me!😄 I put in my first order late last night and am excitedly waiting for its arrival. Hopefully the rest of your week goes well. +Aquaticfish7 fiddler crabs are usually gentle with things, do know that fiddler crabs prefer brackish water
I think we need to get you a tripod so you can use both hands to debox the shipments. Nice to see how much work it really takes running a business. Keep up the good work.
I own 3 tripods, it only slows down filming and makes it harder, cause you can't get the fish to display correctly on the camera.

Dogs are amazing, but fish can teach so much as well. Fish are a great rewarding tool for children. You can do trips to the pet store as a whole family and make decisions etc.

The angelfish in the beginning of this video are stunning!! Not just the color but the shape of them as well. I see far too many oval shaped angels in stores now. If I found a pair that nice, I would be breeding them too :)

Wish I could order some fish, and experience the excitement of unboxing the fish you have personally picked out, but my mom does not seem to want to order, as I think she feels it's to much of a risk. I would like to order because my local fish stores don't carry much variety. Could I get your take on ordering?

Hi Cory, shopping locally for aquarium plants, and I can't seem to find bunches of swords or ferns or any low tech plants for that matter for less than 16-20 dollars per bunch. I am trying multiple places through Amazon and eBay and I keep getting shipping errors or problems with cannot ship to my location. I am in West Michigan, and I am not quite sure as to why I can not be shipped to.
What are some places you might suggest I can order from for either whole plants and/or seeds?

Those Pom Pom crabs are adorable! Pfft! Puffer food. In the south those crawfish are a snack! Lol
time to research killi's cause these clown killi's sparked my interest. I use to keep guppy's platies, and mollys and a three spotted groumi.

I think others are showing some of it as well now. I just try and show any shipment I think might be interesting. I get a lot more shipments than what are shown.

are mono shimp the same as glass shimp how can u tell . I have I think are some glass shimp but some look a bit different unless males and female look different? the reason I ask is the ones that look different look like the mono shimp in the tank thou I know fish ect can have many common names for the same thing ty
Why do they fast the shrimp before shipping them?
so they don't produce too much waste in the bag during transit.
lol, it may sound silly but after years and years of being a hobbyist and even more years of owning a store and a large Custom Aquarium Shop and Maintenance company, I got completely turned off the with the constant death and mistreatment.

I'm not sure, usually I don't count, but I don't think I've had much heavier losses on zebra danios before. I've had other species where they are all dead 300 o em etc.

Shorty, I'd have to look up which country, gotta go back in my records, I order from several different countries all in the same shipment.

I'm in the process of setting up a 75Gal planted aquarium. I was considering live bearers, also I took some notes down from your videos and bought a 10gal quarantine tank. When I get live bearers, should I treat the tank with the three products you had described in an earlier video (general cure, ich-x, e.m. Erythromycin)? Anyways, if you had time ide love any type of suggestions. Love the vids, keep up the great work, thank you!
Hi Erick, I would treat with the 3 meds personally, and observe them for at least a week before going into the main tank. The first fish there isn't as much risk, but once you have healthy fish in the main tank you'll really want to make sure the new fish coming in are healthy as to not take down the whole herd.

Thanks for explaining why the zebra danios likely died. I love them but have had very bad luck with them with too much inbreeding and bent spines. Out of 12 I had only one thrived.
What did you end up doing about the crayfish? I'm kinda curious about the process did you have to report them?
We fed them to Murphy. I didn't report it, but the answer would be to destroy them.

Hey Cory I have another question I have some pea puffers and one is hiding and the color is really dark almost black is eating the stomach looks fine poop seams fine just worried about the color. The other 3 are fine

I took him out and put him in another tank and his color came right back and he's looking at me like Whaaaattttt. You know how they look at you. So anyway I am going to have to rethink that tank. Yeah they definitely look like rockets more than Clowns, but thats what they are known as over here.
This was a problem at a store that I worked at. Most of the fish we'd receive were imported. Most times, the loses were few (less than one percent). But other times, due to delays at the airport, bad weather issues and the like, losses would range from 5 percent to over 15 percent. This is always a risk, but we would receive many beautiful fish, such as colorful African Peacocks, Black Ruby Barbs, Gold and Blue Rams, Gorgeous DIscus, etc. I do hope that we can find a much more cost effective and safer way to transport them.

The way they are run right now, they hold 11 gallons of water, 12x24x14 but not all the way full.
So what were thoese unidentifiable fish I don't know the technical names
