      I remember picking up a vehicle in the mountains, and when I brought it back home, it had the same problem. I brought it from a climate and elevation difference and I had a redo the timing on it something with the climate and elevation messes with vehicles..

      SURCs were the older version, this is a Riverine Patrol Boat or RPB for short. I was in Riverine Squadron 2 for the first 5 years they were around and actually was a coxswain and mechanic that whole time too. All the info he puts out is pretty on point except for how he pronounces Riverine. It came from combining River and Marine, Riverine.

    That reverse bucket you were talking about, allows the engines to stay in drive while the boat is moving in reverse.. that way there's no need to physically shift the gears into reverse, you just flip a switch and drop the bucket... saves transmissions/engines and also works incredibly well.

    • @MrBugsier5

      They also have a folding plate/bucket that redirects the exhaust blast to the front, putting the jet into "reverse", they're used on landing to slow the plane down so you don't rely on the wheel brakes or risk blowing a tire by locking the brakes up...

  • @ikemancan
    @ikemancan 2 ปีที่แล้ว +8

    I work on the water (on a jet boat). The buckets do control forward and reverse. When your moving forward and you flip the buckets(reverse), the buckets simply redirect the flow of water 180⁰. No change in transmission. You can go full throttle to full reverse without damaging tramsmission.

      A lot of boats just use epoxy to seal stuff up. Works great but you do need 72 for a full cure and that curved surface would be a pain in the ass to coat. Weight might also be an issue since they were trying to reduce the weight on the military boat.

    Hey so I’ve been looking into the Susan Powell case. Particularly paying more attention to what Charlie the son on the interview tape said about how Susan stayed at dinosaur national park. so I began just researching some parks in Utah and neveda and Idaho. And I came across one named clover camp ground that the trail looks like the shape of a long neck dinosaur on the map. So I had a thought what if Charlie saw the map trail in the shape of a dinosaur? If Charlie saw the trail map of the camp ground as a dinosaur maybe that’s why he called it dinosaur national park. It may not be clover camp ground but what if there’s a park that has their map trail in the shape of a dinosaur. I don’t have very good maps of the campgrounds online that they would provide on site, but I thought it may be something to look into.

    Hey Dave, you do realise that amperage doesn’t really matter with regard to working on or near the water, voltage is more important. So changing the alternators from 24 volt 500 amp, to 24 volt 80 amp has no effect on safety, it just means that they do not put as much load on the engines which makes them more efficient

    • @christopherdecker8171
      @christopherdecker8171 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It is the amps that are most harmful. They say under 50 volts, with less amps is safer. Granted you need volts to create any power, but in theory what he did is better in case of any accidents.

    • @nickcollins1528
      @nickcollins1528 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      You could get hit with a million volts as long as it's under half an amp. Get hit with 100 volts with 100 amps would be a totally different story. Voltage is not what kills ya amperage does

    • @jonathankeith2547
      @jonathankeith2547 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@nickcollins1528 what I meant was that he is still running 24 volt, it only takes about 50 milliamperes across your heart to kill you. If a fault or accident occurred the smaller 80 amp output would not be any safer, they just take less engine power to run so would be a bit more efficient. I doubt it would even be noticeable with those 500 hp engines running Hamilton Jets. Efficiency is not really the goal here, performance is what that setup is aiming for.

    • @grahamstretch6863
      @grahamstretch6863 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      You are all forgetting one thing, it has a lead acid battery powered 24volt supply which can easily output hundreds of amps, I mean it starts those two big diesels so it can probably easily supply 300 cranking amps if not more! 🤷‍♂️

    • @jonathankeith2547
      @jonathankeith2547 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@grahamstretch6863 my point exactly, changing the amp output of the alternators doesn’t change the voltage of the system. DC voltages up to about 50 volts are relatively safe with regards to electrocution, AC systems even a little higher. This is why 48 volt DC is common in off grid solar / battery systems. My initial comment relates to changing the alternators to a lower current output won’t make the system any safer, just slightly less load on the engines.

    Considering how robust the rear is, i'd make a cantilever platform that extends the rear of the boat and drops it under the water by at least 20~25 cm. When in transit (by water) it would be raised at 45 degrees, and if you make it out of stainless stretch plate (the stuff with holes in it) it wouldn't even drag. For transit by trailer, it would be flipped over in the drive area and out of the way. If the body's aluminium pipe with gussets, it shouldn't be motorized, one big fella would be enough to flip it and lock it in place. For diving stuff, it would be the dream deployment platform because it's flat, under water, and easy to flip yourself on it. You wouldn't be able to do this kind of stuff with any other boat you'd buy. But this one's got an oversized booty and a solid one at that, so it's perfect for this kind of stuff.

    I built a charter boat in 2000 with almost the same exact engine / jet setup, except Vosper Thornycroft Jet and no transmision. Ours was a catamaran with the engines spaced about 9 feet apart. It was wicked manuverable. Because of the leverage the wide engine spacing gave us, it could go sideways at 4 knots, and spin in its own length. Made parallel parking impressive. As well as all of the manuvers yours can do.
    I don't know what you paid, but I had $125 K in the driveline alone. In 2000.

Jumped one in Africa about 4 feet up, and unknown distance bounced twice and kept going like it was nothing. about 50mph. problem is if you crash or roll. the cab is all thin aluminum and offers ZERO protection. and all the metal edges in that cab are sharp.

    My Hinckley picnic boat uses the exact same running gear. 36’ only you can drive it using a joystick. You twist the knob to steer, 3 modes. Docking , power steering and helm. Docking when you stop pushing the stick forward or backwards the jet shoots straight down so it makes it great for maneuvering. If you hold the stick port or starboard and push forward then back, forward and back it will turn in its own radius. It has bow thrusters too but you don’t need them. If you ever make it to the coast of Maine I’ll let you try it out if want a tour of the area.
