I was fitted for Mamiya Recoil ESX 460 shafts a couple of years ago at 2nd swing and I absolutely love them. I’m 55 and my swing speed is slower so moving to graphite shafts has made a big difference.
That's the exactly same shafts I've been using the last 3-4 years but I mixed it up with graphite in the 4-6i and KBS 90 tour in my 7-PW in stiff but now thinking of switching to regular lightweight steel for those. I need more help as I age but love my old forged irons and think this will give it a new lease of life. I think mixing up the shafts is one good way to do it if you don't want to go all-graphite.
Just got fit with new shafts on my P770 irons. Walked out with Accra ICWT 75R 2.0. Amazing shafts! Added about 7 yards to my irons. Went out to the driving range yesterday and hit 220 balls over 3 hours and had no fatigue.
I just got 3i (Apex 21Pro). I got it in the Aroetech stealfiber. I had it bent 2° stronger (18.5°). I use it off the tee mostly. WOW! Feels great! I never thought I could handle a 4i or a 3i but I’m hitting them far better then I ever thought I would. I wish I would have gotten this shaft in my 4i.
Everything you tested was in the weight category of steel shafts. It would have been more interesting to see you test lightweight shafts in the 65-75 gram range and see if you noticed significant changes in swing speed, distance, launch, and spin among other things.
I bought one steel fiber 115fc x-stiff for my 4 iron. LOVED IT. Way less vibration then my current NIPPON 1150GH x-stiff shafts which are 122g. Ordered 5-PWnin the steel fibers, they come in next wed 12/19/23. I’m also going to get the 52, 56, 60 Titleist SM9’s with the Steelfiber 110CW’s.
I have graphite shafts in all my clubs except the putter. I have Recoil 70g on my set of Ben Hogans and the Mitsubishi MMT 70g on my PXGs, love the feel of both on both sets and it does save wear and tear on your body.
I’ve demo’d nearly everyone of these in my Miura 501’s. Only exception are the MCA OTI and Pedersen. While I am considerably higher spin player, my 28* 5-iron is typically 4800-5000 spin, the results were similar. I however did not like the MMT. My preference is the Accra, albeit I-series Tour 95. Fantastic consistent and tight dispersion. When I’m in wind, very easy to hit a controlled knockdown that still lands quite soft due to spin rate. I will add the only other shaft I liked nearly as much as Accra was the KBS TGI Tour 95. I honestly chose the Accra because the KBS has this very bold red band couple inches below grip. I’m not a fan of red and the Accra has a more monochrome gloss grey with very small Accra logos down its length which are largely invisible at address. If you were limiting test to 5 to limit information overload, I personally would have included the TGI and/or the Fujikura Pro over the Pedersen.
Yeah not to get too off subject here but I can’t even see how these guys are playing golf with 3800 average spin and 15 yards of roll out with a six iron. I understand wanting to maximize your distance but if you have to hit the fringe at the front of a green and hoping for it to stop before it rolls off the back, honestly not a great game plan. This is all before taking the undulations of the green into consideration, mean are these guys just playin in a park?
I was swinging True Temper DG since I started playing Golf in my early teens. Now at 42 I tested everything out there that's stock to Callaway for my Apex 21's. The Tour Elevate 95 and the Steelfiber i95's were far and beyond the best ones for me. I went with the Steelfiber becuase I've had 8 knee surgeries, labrum repair and over a dozen abdominal surgeries. I can swing the Steelfiber all day without feeling beat up or fatigued. It's really been a great thing for me since putting them in my irons. I run the i110CW in my wedges.
Great video. I was fitted with Tensei AV white graphite iron shafts. Feel great. I know the weight change as irons decend is not prefect for everyone but it works for me.
Awesome video. This must be my 3rd time watching this. I am planning on making the transition to graphite. I WILL one day come see you guys. I just can’t justify the flight up there yet, but I will make it. In the mean time, keep the videos coming!
I see a lot of love in the comments for the Steelfiber shaft - I agree. I do not have a high swing speed, more of an average swing speed so I play the i80 regular, and it is such a solid shaft far better for me than a steel shaft. But that Accra shaft looks a really good option
If he ordered the MMT 105 TX from Callaway as their stock no up charge shaft, it actually only weighs 105. Those were “made for” Callaway. Its why I didn’t get them in my Apex Pro 21’s. I wanted the 113 gram real deal.
@@joelkeady8646 I don’t know how else to explain it. Yes, the OEM MMT 105TX is 113 grams. However, Mitsubishi made a shaft line specifically for callaway that weighs 85 grams in regular flex, 95 grams in stiff, and 105 in the TX. It’s not the OEM version callaway is using.

The “made for” was first introduced in their X Forged CB in fall of 2020. Then it was available at an up charge of only $15 in the apex pro 21. To get the OEM version would be much more expensive.
I was fit into the Accra 110I shafts and they are great. I was playing the AMT white shaft prior and found the jump in weight from a 4 iron shot to a wedge on the course messed with my timing and wanted a lighter option. After testing a few different shafts, including the MMT and Steelfiber, the Accra was the best feeling and most consistent for me.
Great comparison by the way lads. Love the channel and keep doing what you’re doing. Just wanted to add that I’ve switched from Modus 105 stiff to the MMT 105XT (soft stepped x1) in my Apex Pro 21s. I’m 52, 5-6 handicap and my 6 iron ball speed is around 120-122 (so not particularly quick). I’m finding them so much easier on my body, wrists etc than the Modus and my previous C-Taper lite. Hope this helps anyone thinking of making the switch to graphite. I truly believe graphite iron shafts will be the next big thing.
I’ve had KBS TGI graphite shafts in my P770s before going back to steel. I got fitted at 2nd Swing and currently playing the Ping i525s in the Dynamic Gold 120 shafts. I do miss my KBS shafts at times however I’m glad to have a more stable shaft for my golf swing.
Good video. One note: it’s funny to hear Danny say he can feel the extra weight of the Steelfiber 110cw over the Mitsubishi MMT 105TX. The 105TX actually weighs 113 grams, whereas the Steelfiber is a true 110 grams. The Mitsubishi is heavier. But the Steelfiber also tends to waggle a bit more one piece than the 105TX, which tends to swingweight a little heavier than the Steelfiber.

Interesting. Recently after testing various clubs as a leftie o moved from the apex 19 to the pxg gen 3 with mmt. A world of difference in feel, results (-accuracy and dispersion) and stopping power. The jpx 921 came close but nowhere like the gen 3. Also the apex pro 21 with mmt was nice too. Tested them on course for several rounds in situ and for various conditions and types of shots. Will soon be testing the gen 5 with the Aerotech (because I love my super hybrid with that shaft in it) and the mmt again and perhaps for good measure just put it up against a much lighter shaft too. As mentioned feel, delivery etc is very linked to the individual and how you deliver the club. Have since actually lit the mmt into my wedges too - sand wedge etc for same feel. Great decision
I play the i110’s in my 14 Apex Pro’s, I get the same flight/distance as I did with the KBS Tour V’s I had before. I have nerve damage in my right elbow and these helped amazingly!! I am 6’4 former hockey player with low 160 BS with the driver so I didn’t need distance gains, I just needed my elbow to feel better which these do.

Interesting test by Simon on his SAS channel. He’s got long drive speed. He was thinking in terms of an “affordable auto flex”. He put a long drive head (the Brute) in a Quantro 40gram A flex shaft.
I play the Aerotech FC115s. I played i110 for a year and liked them a lot but I LOVE my 115s. So much higher flight on the longer irons is what I appreciate the most about them. Im also a low launch low spin player btw. How is he in TX at 86? I have similar speed and I was fit into stiff. Is it just a feel thing?
I play steelfiber i 95 in irons and i110 in wedges in miura blades and love them going from project x 6 and kbs tours the transition was easy with a dispersion no different in fact more accurate , these are my gamers ,yet my favorite and lowest scoring clubs are nike blades with pxi 6 shafts i still play them and they always beat everything else i try .
I wonder if you can get a similar or good enough dampening with Steel + a dampening insert like ProSoft or Cushin or Sensicore (which I know had rusting issues).
Everyone's different. I had ProSoft inserts in my Steelfiber 95 with midsize grips and I could still feel it in my hands after a round on a firm course or a long range session off a mat. On the other hand, Recoil shafts with ProSoft have been flawless. I'm introducing a friend in his 50s to golf and I'm looking for Recoil irons to minimize risk and testing.
Are a steelfiber 110 similar to the C Taper Lite S flex? I enjoy the tip stability in the CTL's, and the weight is perfect, but I'm just wondering if there is an option from steelfiber that would be less demanding on my body.. I haven't played 18 with the CTL shafts just yet.. I'm currently in the DG 105 S300. They just feel too loose in the transition and a bit lighter than I would like. The club gets a little deep on the takeaway sometimes. I can really appreciate the feel in the 110 option from KBS..
Good to see an interesting test. I really like my MMT 105TX, but they are pretty damn stiff. They are about the same weight as the KBS c-taper light I played before, but my easier on my body.
Bought the KBS PGI 70's and about to get a club fitter to put them in my PXG's. I just can't load my steel shafts properly, without artificially pulling, anymore. PGI's much higher trajectory, less effort. And as many others said, less stress on the elbow and joints.
Until there is a bit more price parity, not sure there is enough of a benefit compared to steel for the average golfer. Especially with shaft makers like Nippon, KBS and DG that produce good performing lightweight steel shafts.
Steelfiber are like 35 a shaft which is in line with tour issue dg stuff. Etc. guess your point doesn’t make sense. Especially bc mmt 105 is now a no up charge option in callaway irons
He was in the wrong flex in the Paderson. They play stiff. At 87 mph he should be in a reg flex in that brand. Tremendous shafts. Tight feel and dispersion. Out of the ones tested the Paderson and Recoil Prototype are my favorites. The long drive guys love Paderson because they offer power and stability.
87mph is no way regular flex regardless on the shaft. A good rule of thumb is 70-80 regular & 80-90 stiff with a 7iron. Will be player dependent with tempo but this is a good starting point - Thomas
@@2ndswing I disagree. Plenty of players who have a smooth swing to achieve their speed and play very well with regular flex shafts. Jim Furyk played regular flex shafts on Tour. Also, you cannot say “regardless of the shaft” because their is no industry standard for flex designations. The shafts of various brands do not test close to the same or match up on flex. A Project X Rifle 5.0 regular is much stiffer than a Recoil 110 F4 stiff even at the same weight. Try a C Taper regular 110 vs a DG 105 s300 - the C Taper regular is stiffer and can easily handle 87 mph. You have to go by the individual player and know the shaft flex profiles.
@@davidmeeks7449 Couldn't agree more with this. The Project X 6.0 are like re-bar, even after soft stepping them TWICE. That's how stiff they play. They play Extra stiff, but are labelled as stiff. There really is no industry standard on flex.
someone told me that the graphite gets weaker over time where it flexes by the head. I have seen numerous videos of fitters saying graphite is stronger than steel. Can you confirm that one of these graphite shafts will last as long or longer than the steel ones?
Steel shafts are ancient history!! Do yourself a HUGE favor and switch out of them. I have Aerotech SteelFiber shafts in Everything, minus the putter. Study up on how they are made and why they're made that way. They are superior design and engineering! If I could afford any shafts I wanted, I'd still be playing SteelFiber shafts!! They're smooth as warm butta...
How unfortunate LAGP wasn’t included. With Bryson being one of the only tour players gaming graphite on the PGA and having success, not seeing his Texas Rebar shafts in the mix is a huge disappointment.
Bc steelfiber hasn’t been played on the tour before Bryson? Graphite has been around for 20 years on tour. Going all the way back to langer and Fred couples them kuchar and others. But Bryson! Also Brysons are one shaft not multiple, those are a single shaft designed to fit one length one plane swing. Do you swing like Bryson? These guys don’t either. Who besides Bryson would play Brysons shafts? The tested shafts were all similar weight and flexes. But let’s go ahead and grab a 130g telephone pole bc some keyboard warrior says so.

I'm sat here watching the intro, thinking about how insignificant these TX & X flex shafts are going to be for about 98% of everyone watching this video. Now expecting the is lad to be some kind of super golfer... Then the bomb drops at 4 minutes into the video.... His 6 Iron swing speed is just 86mph. Every shaft they are testing is 1 to 3 flexes too stiff for the tester hitting balls. Useless video as all the shafts are miles too stiff for the tester!! I thought your staff on this channel were supposed to know what they are doing. Perhaps not 🤦♂️ I will watch another 5 minutes and correct this comment if needed.
Ridiculous review. Maybe, just maybe 15% of the golfers that will even consider graphite iron shafts will chose/consider X flex shafts. This test would only be legit if conducted with a robot hitting all R flex shafts. I learned nothing from this video and I use Aerotech 90 fc stiff shafts currently... Having said that, the vast majority of people, even with high single digit handicaps would benefit from switching to non-steel shafts. But, most will not take the time to even try them, let alone adjust their swing to lighter feeling clubs, it doesn't happen in the fitting process, it takes a few practice sessions and a few rounds on the course to fully appreciate what non-steel shafts can do for their game and joints

Been playing the Steel Fiber I95 for 6 years and love them. Very consistent shaft.
Had mine a year now on Srixon 745 never have I been more accurate or long and consistently.
Went with the steelfiber i95 when I get fitted into my p790s. Absolutely love them.

Where are you getting your information from? MCA golf shafts has never produced a “made for” version of their 105 TX for callaway or anyone else.

I sport the PXG gen 5 with MMT shafts and I am happy with the feel. So forgiving and at 48 we need all the help we can get.

I have elbow tendonitis which is wear and tear from hitting so many shots... so this is why I'm considering it.

Mmt 125tx and Accra iwedge 130 graphite wedge shafts. The mmt were designed to be x100 profile and the iwedge was designed to be s400 profile
I play steelfiber i 95 in irons and i110 in wedges in miura blades and love them going from project x 6 and kbs tours the transition was easy with a dispersion no different in fact more accurate , these are my gamers ,yet my favorite and lowest scoring clubs are nike blades with pxi 6 shafts i still play them and they always beat everything else i try .
I wonder if you can get a similar or good enough dampening with Steel + a dampening insert like ProSoft or Cushin or Sensicore (which I know had rusting issues).

Everyone's different. I had ProSoft inserts in my Steelfiber 95 with midsize grips and I could still feel it in my hands after a round on a firm course or a long range session off a mat. On the other hand, Recoil shafts with ProSoft have been flawless. I'm introducing a friend in his 50s to golf and I'm looking for Recoil irons to minimize risk and testing.
Are a steelfiber 110 similar to the C Taper Lite S flex? I enjoy the tip stability in the CTL's, and the weight is perfect, but I'm just wondering if there is an option from steelfiber that would be less demanding on my body.. I haven't played 18 with the CTL shafts just yet.. I'm currently in the DG 105 S300. They just feel too loose in the transition and a bit lighter than I would like. The club gets a little deep on the takeaway sometimes. I can really appreciate the feel in the 110 option from KBS..
Good to see an interesting test. I really like my MMT 105TX, but they are pretty damn stiff. They are about the same weight as the KBS c-taper light I played before, but my easier on my body.
Where do you find them being stiff? Tip or handle?

Doesn't the MMT 105tx come in at 113g? So it's actually a little lighter than the i110 Steelfiber which should be 110g?
Bought the KBS PGI 70's and about to get a club fitter to put them in my PXG's. I just can't load my steel shafts properly, without artificially pulling, anymore. PGI's much higher trajectory, less effort. And as many others said, less stress on the elbow and joints.

Until there is a bit more price parity, not sure there is enough of a benefit compared to steel for the average golfer. Especially with shaft makers like Nippon, KBS and DG that produce good performing lightweight steel shafts.
Steelfiber are like 35 a shaft which is in line with tour issue dg stuff. Etc. guess your point doesn’t make sense. Especially bc mmt 105 is now a no up charge option in callaway irons

Play the steelfibers 110 and also have a feeling they are a bit too heavy for me.
He was in the wrong flex in the Paderson. They play stiff. At 87 mph he should be in a reg flex in that brand. Tremendous shafts. Tight feel and dispersion. Out of the ones tested the Paderson and Recoil Prototype are my favorites. The long drive guys love Paderson because they offer power and stability.
87mph is no way regular flex regardless on the shaft. A good rule of thumb is 70-80 regular & 80-90 stiff with a 7iron. Will be player dependent with tempo but this is a good starting point - Thomas
@@2ndswing I disagree. Plenty of players who have a smooth swing to achieve their speed and play very well with regular flex shafts. Jim Furyk played regular flex shafts on Tour. Also, you cannot say “regardless of the shaft” because their is no industry standard for flex designations. The shafts of various brands do not test close to the same or match up on flex. A Project X Rifle 5.0 regular is much stiffer than a Recoil 110 F4 stiff even at the same weight. Try a C Taper regular 110 vs a DG 105 s300 - the C Taper regular is stiffer and can easily handle 87 mph. You have to go by the individual player and know the shaft flex profiles.
@@davidmeeks7449 Couldn't agree more with this. The Project X 6.0 are like re-bar, even after soft stepping them TWICE. That's how stiff they play. They play Extra stiff, but are labelled as stiff. There really is no industry standard on flex.
Where do u find that accra blue shaft you guys tested?
PXG do not charge extra for MMT graphite an has steel fibre in the tip for tip stiffness and swing weight.
someone told me that the graphite gets weaker over time where it flexes by the head. I have seen numerous videos of fitters saying graphite is stronger than steel. Can you confirm that one of these graphite shafts will last as long or longer than the steel ones?
Leave out in the rain and you will see which lasts.
Mmt 105 tx is heavier than steelfiber 110, 113 g to 110 gr, so not sure what he was feeling

Do yourself a HUGE favor and switch out of them. I have Aerotech SteelFiber shafts in Everything, minus the putter.
Study up on how they are made and why they're made that way. They are superior design and engineering! If I could afford any shafts I wanted, I'd still be playing SteelFiber shafts!! They're smooth as warm butta...

How unfortunate LAGP wasn’t included. With Bryson being one of the only tour players gaming graphite on the PGA and having success, not seeing his Texas Rebar shafts in the mix is a huge disappointment.
Bc steelfiber hasn’t been played on the tour before Bryson? Graphite has been around for 20 years on tour. Going all the way back to langer and Fred couples them kuchar and others. But Bryson! Also Brysons are one shaft not multiple, those are a single shaft designed to fit one length one plane swing. Do you swing like Bryson? These guys don’t either. Who besides Bryson would play Brysons shafts? The tested shafts were all similar weight and flexes. But let’s go ahead and grab a 130g telephone pole bc some keyboard warrior says so.
LA shafts are becoming more popular, since they are an option at Club Champion.

I'm sat here watching the intro, thinking about how insignificant these TX & X flex shafts are going to be for about 98% of everyone watching this video. Now expecting the is lad to be some kind of super golfer... Then the bomb drops at 4 minutes into the video.... His 6 Iron swing speed is just 86mph.
Every shaft they are testing is 1 to 3 flexes too stiff for the tester hitting balls.
Useless video as all the shafts are miles too stiff for the tester!! I thought your staff on this channel were supposed to know what they are doing. Perhaps not 🤦♂️

Ridiculous review. Maybe, just maybe 15% of the golfers that will even consider graphite iron shafts will chose/consider X flex shafts. This test would only be legit if conducted with a robot hitting all R flex shafts. I learned nothing from this video and I use Aerotech 90 fc stiff shafts currently... Having said that, the vast majority of people, even with high single digit handicaps would benefit from switching to non-steel shafts. But, most will not take the time to even try them, let alone adjust their swing to lighter feeling clubs, it doesn't happen in the fitting process, it takes a few practice sessions and a few rounds on the course to fully appreciate what non-steel shafts can do for their game and joints
