  • Master Club fitters are all predicting we'll all be using GRAPHITE iron shafts in the next 10 years!... #golf #customfitting
**ARE GRAPHITE SHAFTS JUST FOR SENIORS & LADIES?**
Every club fitter I talk too are raving about how good graphite iron shafts are performing! We've seen the likes of Bryson DeChambeau and most recently Sergio Garcia, two of the best ball strikers in the world using graphite, so what are we waiting for?
In today's video I am testing some of the worlds best graphite irons shafts including the AUTOFLEX IRON SHAFT, VA SYNYSTR IRON SHAFT and FUJIKURA AXIOM IRON SHAFT at SGGT Tour Performance Fitting Studio CHESTERFIELD with MASTER FITTER Laurence Pawley.

I switched irons from Reg Steel to Senior Graphite, so easy to swing and more feedback.
I will however continue with Yorkshire Tea for the foreseeable ☕️

This has indeed turned out into an intensive trip on fitting which isn't over by far! Was a little confused at first over your lie angle statement but figured out that continuity did not match with a previous video. There is so much extra that can be done with graphite over steel in terms of feel, flex and weight of which you need to experience first hand. Can't wait to see how your re-manufactured i230's will perform. That is a BIG change.

Another brilliant video in this series, Gaz. I’ve just been fitted for new irons and went from an Elevate 95 (Reg steel) into a KBS 75 (Reg graphite). Interestingly, during the process, I also went from the PGI version to the TGI (tour) shaft on the fitters advice and immediately he could see that my ball height, spin and distance all went up and dispersion came down, I can also feel the head more now. The other benefit is that as I’ve moved to all Cobra, I have the same shaft in my hybrids (no long irons for me), so moving through the bag things feel pretty similar. Your swing weight sessions struck a chord with me too, and I’m going to look more into that now as it makes total sense. Please keep making this content, it’s so much more interesting and insightful than the repetitive and largely irrelevant club reviews churned out by others.

@@garymartingolf it's more about the abuse that irons go thru vs the woods. Drivers can "safely" use a graphite shaft because the tee box is the safest place to swing on the course.
One full-speed fatty shot and you'll blow that graphite shaft just by chunking a 9i on an approach shot.
Imagine clipping a tree root you can't see under the turf at full speed with a graphite shaft...
You'd really feel safe full-swinging that graphite shaft onto hard-top dirt after missing a fairway from the tee? What about heavily compacted fairway bunkers? You really hitting the sand full-speed from 155 out with a graphite 7i...?

@garymartingolf I had only three clubs SST pured in my life. It was way back. They were Taylormade r580 driver 8.5, VSteel 3W& 5W. The shafts were an Aldila HM Tour Gold 90 gram shaft.
Could I feel anything immediately during a fitting like in your video? No
But over the use of those clubs they were the straightest clubs I ever hit. Loved them. Graphite technology has come a long way, but I still think the SST pure process is well worth.
Thank you for sharing the videos. Good luck and keep it coming👍🤜🤛

I went for a driver fitting and warmed up using a Titleist T150 with an Axiom shaft. Could not believe how good they felt.

Its crazy that they still have a hangover of being whippy old mens shafts, its been 20 years!! You mentioned every updated trope going in this video. The dont make F1 and supercars out of carbon fiber becuase ts flexy.

i have very much benefitted from the fitting vids. But i find that when i go for a fitting they are not as thorough or comprehensive on the right fit. it seems more of sell you something and less fitting. So I am hesitant to try further. also wonder if you are getting the VIP service due to your name and others you tubers or they are on youtube so they step up their game?

It’s a great point, and one that I did consider! I 100% had this conversation with sam and Lawrence who I’ve done recent videos with, do you fit like this as standard, because this could be an indirect advert for you, so you must be able to provide the same level of fitting for a customer, and they both completely agreed!
What I would say, is you should be very hesitant and don’t rush to book a fitting until you’ve had a very very good recommendation. It’s took me 20 years to find someone like sam, and Lawrence who are golf perverts, you don’t get fitters like these in all facilities.
I hope you can find someone good 👌🏼

Problem with graphite shafts is bag rub damage you don't get this with steel shafts and you can get ultra light shafts in metal

If the graphite weighs the same and flexes the same? Why spend more for the same? What's the advantage when steel has that classic look and feel? Goooooooooooooo Steeel.

Graphite shafts are fine as long as they don’t reduce the swing-weight too much.

Not being disrespectful, but I would have expected that as part of a PGC Qualification students would undertake an intensive course on club building, fitting, and understanding of what all you have learned recently and what is a fundamental part of golf. After all people pay good money to see a Professional. Now you know all this, maybe your approach to coaching and club selection will turn a new leaf.

No disrespect taken, the PGA only provides a very basic insight into all aspects of golf, it’s then down the the individual to decide where they specialise, and to then continue their learning in that area. I’m trying share with everybody my learning within golf, which will continue forever 😩😂
