Sorry to hear of your dad s passing.....hope you can appreciate those special moments on the course with him....what I wouldn t give for one more round with my dad
43 years old , 6 handicap- i have been on a search this year. Played T150 Titleist to start the year, moved to my current set of Taylormade 790’s but awaiting delivery of a custom set of Titleist T100’s. Finally settled i’m a Titleist guy and there’s nothing like the for me personally. Hit’em straight everyone
I agree totally with your comment on Takomo 101s. I bought a set earlier this year and made a hole-in-one with the 6 iron last Thursday. 3rd one for me 😃
After 47 years of golf and over 5000 rounds of golf, I’ve had 3 holes in one. The first came after 1000 rounds, second near 3000 and the third at around 4500... so I estimate I get one every 1500 rounds. Another 1000 rounds and I may get another if I make it that far. Kenny Perry has something like 80 plus. He says it’s luck. And being good just makes you luckier. In younger days, I bought new clubs more than anyone I knew. Now at 71, I’m just gonna use what I have until the last putt drops. Fairways and Greens! PenguinGolf
Hello, I doubt that you'll see this, but I hope you do. I'd like your opinion. I'm a 75 year old guy with a handicap index of 8.4. We play from the old guy tees which are about 5600 yards. I currently play TaylorMade M6 irons which were fitted to my swing. It turns out that they were just "off the rack". Based on your recommendation, I went through the online fitting for Takomo. Their recommendation was that I should use a 1/2" longer shaft and 3 degrees upright. Since they varied so much from what I'm currently playing, I couldn't pull the trigger. All I could think of was every shot would be headed way left. Then, what would I do? Do you have any thoughts on this? Thanks!
Hi James. I use Mizuno jpx 923 Hot Metal irons and I cannot see me changing them for a good while yet. Feel is excellent, distance is great and they are so easy to hit.
I have switched from Callaway Big Bertha to a complete set of Eleven hybrids from 4 to PW! Best decision in golf I ever made! Even the Eleven 4hybrid plays as easy as my Eleven PW! I am 66 so my swingspeed is a little bit less than it was 5 years ago and with Eleven clubs I hit the same length a had 5 years ago! But with a dispersion that is 10 times better (closer) than with my Callaway irons!
I purchased Takomos split set, but Takomo refused to sale me CB w-8 saying they don't sale partial sets so I bought sub 70 659 cbs, I love them! Best irons I've ever played hands down!
Play Mizuno JPX921 Forged. Bought off eBay, having come back to golf after a 15 year absence. Also bought some titleist 818 hybrids for £45 each. Complete revelation for a now 55 year old who used to be a good long iron hitter
Playing Orka RS10 CB’s 5-PW with OD 50,54,58 wedges! No reason to change, they’re fitted, longer than my i210’s which were my previous irons! Forged, super soft and drop dead gorgeous to look at! I also have a set of Lynx forged Tour blades, 3-PW for zeroing my strike in and for fun!
Callaway Ai Smoke Max Fast. Got them fitted, changed the whole game. Started to play on range late May, with Top Flite clubs, changed in July to Callaway Ai Smoke, played 14 scored games since 15 july. My handicap is now 28, extremly saticfied with my irons!
I bought a set of Cleveland Launcher XL 4-PW, and I changed out grips to medium. Added lead tape to club heads they just felt a touch light. They work even better. Fair price.
After your earlier review of the V Max I bought a set and really like them. I’m just trying to get back into golf after major back surgery and a new hip and they appear to work with a slow swing speed 👍👍
100% agree on the new p7cb I actually just ordered the new p770 in 3,4,5,6 and then the p7cb in 7,8,9,P with the kbs tour black shafts in x 130 and can’t wait for them to come in! I hit nearly all the clubs on this list you made and I truly believe that TAYLORMADE is at the top of the iron market right now. Just played the 2021 p790 the last 3 seasons and can’t wait for my new ones to come in! Great video man! 👍🏼⛳️🙂🇺🇸
I still play Big Bertha Fusion upgraded the driver and 3 wood to Paradym and now looking for something in the iron range...i absolutely have loved the fusion
Mizuno 923 pro - love them! 64 yrs old 6.9 hdcp - fitted Nippon shafts - yesterday 164 yd par 3 8 iron to 10 feet behind the pin missed the putt though😢
I bought the Takomo 101T earlier this year. They replaced some 2006/07 Taylormade R7 XDs. I don’t play as much as I would like so going Takomo ticked so many boxes. Love them.
I'm using 6 year old Callaway Rogue Xs. I'm looking to move into a smaller iron, with forgiveness that will let me work the ball a little. I'm an 18 HCP.
For me it was between the ping bleuprint t en the wilson staff blades. Went with the Wilsons because they gave me better feedback compared to the pings. And softer as well.
Srixon zx4 just received my fitted set. Massive strike consistency and accuracy upgrade compared to my previous beginner complete golf set from wilson staff. During fitting tried mizunu and cobra dark speed as well srixon zx5. For me zx4 was the best.
Got some used Bridgestone Powerrips, havnt been able to find anything about them! But for someone who’s only played for 3 weeks they’ll manage while I learn about the sport.
Ive been looking around at new irons with the view of a new set. I have been shocked at how much the degree of loft has increased since my last purchase. This session I have stayed with my Wishon 771CSi irons
I currently have a set of Ram Lighting Muscle back Irons that are about 50 years old. All my other clubs are fairly new, but I just haven’t been able to convince myself to spend so much money to replace Irons that I hit decently.
I just started golf this year. I’m 14 and I’m down to a 8 handicap so far. I’m looking for new irons because right now I have smaller ones. What would you recommend?
James is right. Everyone should have at least a couple sets of clubs including a nice set of blades for different occasions. My Miura KM-700s are good Sunday morning clubs. Sort of like taking your Ferrari out for a cruise every now and then. My go to are the T150s if I go out with the boys. Very workable and usually always shoot pretty low. Usually I take my P•7TWs for business trips…everyone seems to want to take a swing. My two boys are set up on Kirklands and the wife has some pings (not sure what model, but she thinks ping irons are cute).
Taylor Made "rac SO" (I think), re-gripped w/steel shafts. I'm a beginner, and these are the best I have found at Goodwill. (I bought 'em by the pound!)
Great choices! Its crazy how many options are out there! Always enjoy your reviews. I am looking into buying new irons soon and for some reason the new Macgregor MT Milled irons are stuck in my head. Any chance those are on your list for review? Keep up the good work!
Can you please review the MacGregor MACSPD irons. They are a great price with the ability to get them in custom lengths. PLEASE SOME one NEEDS TO TELL THE WORLD!
Currently, I have 2 sets. 1) Taylormade Stealth irons MG4 54 and 58 Sim 2 Max Driver, 3w, 4h 2) Ben Hogan (2021) Edge Ex irons Eq II 54 and 58 GS 53 Driver and 3w VKTR 4h
Heya James, love your videos, would love to see you review hydrids and or wedges from Lazrus, i have them, i personally think they're great for the price. Then again, i'm a crap golfer!! love the content, best wishes from France
I had a set of Takomo 101s which I had waited 12 months for, then a long came COVID,there was a further delay then they told me the shafts I wanted were out of stock, foolishly I accepted different ones which didn't suit me,at that time there were limited options,I ended up selling them for the same price I paid (but I lost out on import duties and postage) I often wonder how they would have been with the right shafts as they were beautiful looking clubs.
61 this year got rid of Mizuno MP69 was finding it harder to hit long irons, replaced with Cobra Speed Zone that go for miles in the right direction, and dont need to try to hit full swing probbably 3/4 swing, still goes and keeps going, wish I had found Cobra years ago
still swinging 2018 Titleist AP3s. Sometimes I think something a little softer might be nice, but when I go test, nothing has been such a significant improvement that I think it will be a difference in my game (only in my pocketbook).
2016 Taylormade M2 regular steel shafts midsize grips. I'm looking to upgrade soon. I've been looking at the cleveland launcher xl or ben hogan edge ex forged. I'm sorry about your dad passing. I'm sending prayers your way!
Absolutely loving my Takomo 201's. Huge upgrade over the Callaway Rogue's I was using. You said they feel firm, but for me, they're insanely soft. That could be my shaft option though. I went with their 95s Obsidian stiff graphite.
I have been gaming 923 hot metals for the last 2 years, got fitted for those after having played cobra t-rails for 3 years as I was just getting back into golf after nearly 25 years away from the game
Cleveland Launcher UHX. Like them quite a bit, but I will lust longingly at the PXG 0311(probably xp) Gen 7s in particular. I'd really like to swing those Black Ops for fun. The Wilson Dynapower Forged have great appeal, too. There are just so many cool things out there....
@@davidbentz1281 I saw them and liked the look but have also heard the same about their quality. I may eventually get the ts3 for 5-7 if and when I wear through the ts1 IM. I've also been eyeing one of their putters to try.
I went from the i525’s to the i230’s. I really liked my i525’s but I was fitted for 125 S taper KBS, shoulder had some pain so wanted more playability and something lighter so I went with the i230’s with s300 DG 105s. Spin numbers were spot on and I played them for 2 months but something was missing. I replaced them with the i530’s retro lofted paired with KBS c-taper lites 110g shafts and I couldn’t be happier. I can work the ball easier than I could with my i230’s with minimal effort, almost identical spin numbers . (I play both the max fly tour and the max tour x)I couldn’t tell the difference in feel and It’s hard to find a lot of info on the c-taper lites but with this set up my golf game is on cruise control. Highly recommend trying the i530 and if your fitter has them give the c-tapers a try. Also, with retro lofts you can bend the U to 50 and you don’t have to have 5 wedges to make this set work like a player’s iron set.
Stealth HDs; age and health meant I had to give up on my Apex Pros. Tried the Elevens but couldn’t get on with the short irons. Still miss my MP-5s - both to play and to look at 🙂
Sorry to hear of your dad s passing.....hope you can appreciate those special moments on the course with him....what I wouldn t give for one more round with my dad
Srixon zx7, 68 years young. Love the feel and the confidence they inspire, not to mention how great they look.
I love my ZX7’s
I love the ZX7 as well. Im playing a mixed set this year 4-6 ZX7, 7-9 z-forged. Last year I played a full set of zx7’s
I have Zx7/Zx5 combo set with Steelfiber flighted shafts. Love them.
Black Chrome Srixon ZX7s. Such a pure feeling club and shot shaping, ball flight and spin is elite with them
I agree totally with your comment on Takomo 101s. I bought a set earlier this year and made a hole-in-one with the 6 iron last Thursday. 3rd one for me 😃
I just ordered them last week. Hoping they come in soon. How long did it take for you out of curiosity. 3 holes in one!!? Crazy

I’m still rocking the Nike VRS irons, bought them new in 2012 and still going strong 💪🏼
Hello, I doubt that you'll see this, but I hope you do. I'd like your opinion. I'm a 75 year old guy with a handicap index of 8.4. We play from the old guy tees which are about 5600 yards. Go to a shop and get a professional fitting in person where you can swing the club on a simulation
What do you divots and fat shot divots look like?
So so sorry about dad. Enjoyed his input in the video very much.
Hi James. I use Mizuno jpx 923 Hot Metal irons and I cannot see me changing them for a good while yet. Feel is excellent, distance is great and they are so easy to hit.
Same here

Wilson Dynapower forged 4-9. Wilson ZM wedges 46, 50, 54, 58, beautiful and not expensive
James how do you not have more subscribers!? You make such good videos my man. Great as always.
Thanks buddy
I purchased Takomos split set, but Takomo refused to sale me CB w-8 saying they don't sale partial sets so I bought sub 70 659 cbs, I love them! Best irons I've ever played hands down!
Play Mizuno JPX921 Forged. Bought off eBay, having come back to golf after a 15 year absence. Also bought some titleist 818 hybrids for £45 each. Complete revelation for a now 55 year old who used to be a good long iron hitter
Takomo 101s with KBS 55 Max Graphite Shafts in the bag, fabulous combo for me ⛳👍
I currently have cobra ltdx and am currently upgrading to pxg soon. The fitting process and customization is unmatched
My new Mizuno 923 forged, tested alot of brands and types but these have the best feel/performance for me.
James thank you so much for letting me know I need the highest handicap club lol, RIP🕊️ your dad james
I bought a set of Cleveland Launcher XL 4-PW, and I changed out grips to medium. Added lead tape to club heads they just felt a touch light.
They work even better. Fair price.
Srixon Z Forged blades 4-PW. Love them
Maltby TS3. I’ve played so many big brands and these are amazing.
I’m patiently waiting for my set of Maltbys TS3
They are worth the wait for sure.
After your earlier review of the V Max I bought a set and really like them. I’m just trying to get back into golf after major back surgery and a new hip and they appear to work with a slow swing speed 👍👍

Wilson are incredible irons love mine
Currently playing ~2016 Callaway Rogue Pro irons. Am in the market for new DTC irons with graphite shafts. Thanks for your video.
Best feeling, best value "modern" blades I've ever tested = Sub70 759-MB and TAIII irons. You should check them out and review them.
I was looking at getting the Cobra dark speeds in copper. Probably the best looking clubs I've ever seen really glad to see them on the list 👍🏻
I bought the Takomo 101T earlier this year. They replaced some 2006/07 Taylormade R7 XDs. I don’t play as much as I would like so going Takomo ticked so many boxes. Love them.
Srixon Z785's are still in my bag, great looking and amazing feel. Srixon are the most underrated clubs still.
Those darkspeeds are super nice. However, I fell in love with the ping i530s. Couldn't go wrong with either set
P790 mmt 105 stiff(wish I went with the TX) also chsnged my lofts on my 5-8 iron. Now playing at 25,28,32,36,40,45,50
Fantastic selection of irons James and I love the look of the PXG range of irons, I’m currently gaming the Srixon ZX5 mk11 irons
What is the focus on feel? Use the clubs that give the best results and learn to love the way they feel.
Just had a fitting this month and was surprised at the irons that worked best for me. I have a set of Cobra dark speed irons.
I picked up some basically brand new off Facebook for cheaper than half price and honestly I love them, so forgiving and they feel great!
Srixon zx4 just received my fitted set. Massive strike consistency and accuracy upgrade compared to my previous beginner complete golf set from wilson staff. During fitting tried mizunu and cobra dark speed as well srixon zx5. For me zx4 was the best.
Wilson DynaPower Forged 2024 model 4-Gap Wedge
I believe that the Takomo 101 is the same as a Ram Fx77, visually and shaft/grip specs at least - tidy way to save £200!

Agree everyone should have a set of blades I’ve picked up a titlest blades for £20 off Marketplace. They are beautiful 3-pw
Just purchased a set of Srixon Z785's on a recommendation from my boss & many others,Can't wait to test them out tomorrow🤞🏼
I got a set of i230s last year when they were new, and I can't see any reason to change them anytime soon
They can be gamed by higher handicaps than recommended too!
Still playing the Nike Vapor Fly Pros in 2024. Bought them 8 years ago and just love the look and feel of them
I just started golf this year. I’m 14 and I’m down to a 8 handicap so far. I’m looking for new irons because right now I have smaller ones. What would you recommend?
Sorry too hear about your Dad - I remember that Eleven video

PXG Gen 5, 54 years young, better DA Sniper (retired), than golfer but like Mr. Parson says, keep trying to get better.
Taylor Made "rac SO" (I think), re-gripped w/steel shafts. I'm a beginner, and these are the best I have found at Goodwill. (I bought 'em by the pound!)
Great review James nice to have an overview of each category.
Great choices! Its crazy how many options are out there! Always enjoy your reviews. I am looking into buying new irons soon and for some reason the new Macgregor MT Milled irons are stuck in my head. Any chance those are on your list for review? Keep up the good work!
Pxg 0311 gen 6 🏆 love them
Love my 11’s - best golf I’ve ever played in 45 years.

Heya James, love your videos, would love to see you review hydrids and or wedges from Lazrus, i have them, i personally think they're great for the price. Then again, i'm a crap golfer!! love the content, best wishes from France

Hey Dave,
Currently hitting the Cobra T-Rails at the moment but have ordered the full set of Cobra Darkspeed Irons. Get them in a month & can’t wait
Wish Takomo would release the 101’s in the copper finish
Holding out for the 101ts in copper!!!🙏🏽
61 this year got rid of Mizuno MP69 was finding it harder to hit long irons, replaced with Cobra Speed Zone that go for miles in the right direction, and dont need to try to hit full swing probbably 3/4 swing, still goes and keeps going, wish I had found Cobra years ago
still swinging 2018 Titleist AP3s. Sometimes I think something a little softer might be nice, but when I go test, nothing has been such a significant improvement that I think it will be a difference in my game (only in my pocketbook).
Where would you rank the Takomo 301s versus the Wilson, Lynx, Taylormade, and Mizuno irons?
Hi James sorry to hear of your dads passing keep up the great videos it gives you a focus 👍💙
Was this done before the Callaway Apex Ti Fusion? Just reviewed that as the best irons ever.
What do you think…
I’ll need to ask my guy who manages your recording schedule 😂
0317t shows great accuracy!! At the same time, it has better forgiveness than other mid handicap irons because of polymers technology.
2016 Taylormade M2 regular steel shafts midsize grips. I'm looking to upgrade soon. I've been looking at the cleveland launcher xl or ben hogan edge ex forged. I'm sorry about your dad passing. I'm sending prayers your way!
Lynx Prowler VT, KBS Tour 90 stiff Shafts - best value players I've tried in many years!
you’re literally my comfort person i love you kislux !
Absolutely loving my Takomo 201's. Huge upgrade over the Callaway Rogue's I was using. You said they feel firm, but for me, they're insanely soft. That could be my shaft option though. I went with their 95s Obsidian stiff graphite.
Mine are soft as well and I have the kbs xstiff
Playing the takomo 301 CBs, loving it, the feel and control is fantastic
Still loving my Ping i500 3-pw. To this very day, I still get compliments on how beautiful they look
Wilson C300….68 yrs old….about to change to T200 g3 with lighter shaft….good job reviewing irons…
Maybe do once the most forgiving golfbag Driver to wedge. Will it be the eleven hybrids, or takomo101or Mcgregor V max?
Cheers James. Some interesting choices
I have been gaming 923 hot metals for the last 2 years, got fitted for those after having played cobra t-rails for 3 years as I was just getting back into golf after nearly 25 years away from the game
Cobra Forged Tech 5 - GW. Love them.
I'm new to you're channel, really enjoyed this comparison test , thank you for the information ! I have subscribed! 😊
Still have the Titleist AP3 3-PW. Got my eye on a few sets. Mainly the Takomo 201 or 301CB(if they ever come back in stock in Lefty)
I’m using my Wilson FG Tour 100 (3-P) with Stiff Nippon Pro Modus 125 shafts and mid size Winn Dri-tack grips. Love them!
The i230's are an incredible set of clubs, probably one of my all time top favorite irons
Just can't give up on my Mizuno MP54's love them 52 Yr old 11 handicap, but I absolutely adore the Wilson Staff model maybe next year
Still using the Ping I3 Blades and can't wait to upgrade! Great video!
PXG 0311P Gen7 for me.
Ever reviewed the ram fx77? Look v similar to the takomo, but £200 cheaper... if you're going budget why not that extra step?
I'm 71 and playing the Ping G430 (Pwr Spec) regular shafts fitted. Love em. Sorry about your Dad!
I currently game a set of Maltby irons I built. Ts4 in the 8-pw and ts1 IM in the 5-7.
Did you look into the ts3 irons? I see they are really good
@@davidbentz1281 I saw them and liked the look but have also heard the same about their quality. I may eventually get the ts3 for 5-7 if and when I wear through the ts1 IM. I've also been eyeing one of their putters to try.
PXG 0211DC with senior graphite shaft ⛳️
Wilson forged D9's are absolutely fantastic.
Ping i230 - good enough for the best players, forgiving enough for the worst players, and look good enough for everyone.
I know of 20 something handicappers using them. I’ve hit one and it was good!!
Stealth HDs; age and health meant I had to give up on my Apex Pros. Tried the Elevens but couldn’t get on with the short irons. Still miss my MP-5s - both to play and to look at 🙂
Guess it's been a minute since I've watched one of your videos James, so sorry to hear about your dad. Hope you and your family are all doing well.
