Blend Door Actuator Replacement Chevrolet Silverado, Tahoe, Suburban 2007-2014

  • Today on 2CarPros we show you how to replace the blend door actuator motor on a Chevy Silverado, Tahoe, Suburban and this video guide will also work on a GMC Sierra, Yukon, and Yukon XL between the years of 2007-2014. To see the different locations go here www.2carpros.com/articles/rep...
    The HVAC control module will relearn the actuator limits whenever power is disconnected and re-connected to the module.
    Use the following steps to perform the calibration update:
    1. Turn OFF the ignition.
    2. Remove the battery positive voltage circuit fuse of the HVAC Control Module.
    IMPORTANT:
    - The scan tool must be disconnected from the vehicle to properly perform the calibration procedure. If a scan tool is connected before this procedure is completed, then new calibration values will not be stored.
    - Failure to wait 60 seconds will not allow the HVAC control module sufficient time to clear the old calibration values.
    3. Wait 60 seconds.
    4. Install the fuse.
    5. Turn ON the ignition.
    6. Wait 60 seconds before installing a scan tool.

    2007 Avalanche LTZ here. I thought it was my drivers side actuator (beside gas pedal) but it wasn't. Still having the problem of hot on drivers side/cold on passenger. I have the dual climate zone adjustments. I then took the working part and replaced the passengers side (have to remove kick plate, near centre panel two screws and a electrical connection tights quarters). Once the actuator is off you can move the flap it attaches to, and you'll see it controls the hot/cold on the drivers side. Figure out what position it should be in without the new part attached. If your part isn't centred correctly, you can move the part it attached onto so it aligns with the hole, if not you can plug it in without putting it on its mounts and see if that gets it in the correct position. The part that controls the opening and closing of the vents has two flat sides on a round opening and it has to align. Once done, remove the fuses for the HVAC (under hood) and let the hvac reset next time you turn on the car. It should work and you should hear it calibrating itself. Hope this helps as its a confusing job to tackle and dealers will charge an arm and a leg.

    Great video, it was a great help and identical location for my 2009 Silverado LTZ . I had the AC on high and would get hot air on the driver side and cold on the passenger side, this was the fix. You will need a 5.5 MM socket for the small bolts for the actuator. On a scale of 1 to 10 on difficulty, I'd give it a 3 for easy.

    I have a 2007.5 GMC 3500 HD Sierra. About every other year I have to have the blend door motor replaced which sometimes fixes the warm air problem and sometimes it does not. Since I'm in South Florida I only care about cooling. The three days a years that I might need heat I can run the heated seats. Can I remove the blend door motor and put a drywall screw through the blend door to make it permanently blow cold? Just had the motor replaced last week and the coolest it would blow was about 80 degrees yesterday. It was 93 here outside yesterday.

    Excuse the rookie question but that's why I'm here. I have a 2007 Chevy Suburban and the vents apparently are now locked in an off position where "no air will blow" through the front air ducts however the AC is on and pushing air through my furthest side and roof ducts. It's as if their are doors preventing the air from blowing through like they should (not an issue of hot or cold blending). I hear there are three actuators that could be the problem. How do I know if it's the blend door actuator as shown here or one of the others other than to replace each one, one at a time???

      I have the same problem, did you get it fixed ?

    • @PatriotCoinRings
      @PatriotCoinRings 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@susannaleonard3845 I did Susanna and if it helps, here's what I experienced. In my 2007 LTZ Suburban I have four (4) sensors I replaced each one of them and it wasn't as easy as it seems "however" the parts themselves were very inexpensive (around $12 each on Amazon) so that was a plus however it "did not" fix the problem. I did try to recalibrate and reset my computer settings and no luck! I even have an OBD reset tool and couldn't do it that way neither so I took the truck into a local mechanic. After he had the truck for three days with no luck, I started not feeling like such a failure! He too couldn't get anything to actuate properly and although he had reset the computer on other models, he couldn't on mine so he himself took it down to the devil... an actual Chevy dealer mechanic where they are all to well known to rape you in price for repairs. They did take it, wouldn't let me into the bay to record what was done and although I did all the work of replacing all actuators charged me $300 to reset it and the most I was told is they have a special computer that connects to the system to reset everything and it's not really a series of things anyone can really do (so they say) without it. Well, $100 to Amazon for the actuators, two days of my own time to install which was not easy, my local mechanic didn't charge me because he couldn't do it and the Chevy dealers $300 charge, I got it done for a total of $400. Hope you have better luck than I did but then again, properly working A/C is worth $400 in my book, especially in triple digits..lol Good luck

    • @ncd7184
      @ncd7184 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@PatriotCoinRings Interesting. So my company has a 2013 GMC Yukon XL and I replaced the dash on it because it was cracked. When I hooked the battery back up the air mode is stuck on defrost and won't switch so I think I have a bad actuator now. I've tried everything to get the actuators to recalibrate properly with no luck. Wondering if we need to bring it to a Chevy dealer.

    • @PatriotCoinRings
      @PatriotCoinRings ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@ncd7184 If it helps, I've long ago fixed this problem and it turned out there are actually four (4) actuators under the steering column and dash. I replaced the 2 on the far left on far right being the easiest to get to which turns out that those control the furthest left and right airducts so I took the truck down to a local mechanic to do the other two that were much harder to get to "for me" and yep, that was the ticket. This problem was 3 years ago and they've worked great ever since. If you can do it yourself, you can save a few bucks because the parts I bought right off Amazon for around $20 each. It just took me an entire day to do the two actuators which for me, I make a lot more money doing what I do being a jeweler and was totally worth the $300 I was charged to put the other two actuators in plus yes, he did say he had to calibrate them as well so for me, that was money well spent because it would have taken me far longer.
      Hope yours is as easy to fix as well.

      2CarPros Hi they also said I need a Dash Control Unit part number 25936129. I found a actuator above the gas pedal that worked the door to direct the air up to the defroster or to the dash vent, but it worked fine. Is there another actuator that would control hot or cold air for the drivers side or could my problem just be the dash control unit? No matter how I adjust the temp up or down for the driver side it just blows hot. So if there’s not another actuator it might be the control unit. Would you agree?

    • @mrnonpc9885
      @mrnonpc9885 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Jonathan Biloy if you’re doing the one one the bottom side of the dash on the passenger side maybe 90 minutes. That’s the driver side blend door actuator. If it’s the one on top on the passenger side for the passenger blend door that will take longer because you’ll need to remove the air bag. Time really depends on how long it takes to get the screws out. The one for the passenger kick panel above the hump took the longest time. I used double sided carpet tape for that one instead of trying to get it back in there when I was done. Good luck

      I own a 2011 Sierra with single zone climate control and found the Actuator that is responsible for the defrost/vent/heat function is called the "mode actuator". Dual zone vehicles use 2 actuators, one each for DS & PS, plus the mode actuator. A defective mode actuator will produce the symptoms you describe, while a defective PS/DS actuator will cause warm air on DS & cool air on the PS,or vice versa.
      In my case the mode actuator is under the PS dash next to the PS airbag on the LH side.

    This video only shows the actuator that controls the drivers side vents. Where the hell is the one that controls the passenger side? I pulled the radio out but don't see it back there either. There must be some other actuators for recirculating air and devertting the air between your feet, face and defrost. Any idea where those are? Funny how everyone says american cars are easy to work on. Evey japanese car I've ever owned had easy to find service manuals and nowhere near as much miss information in the internet. Plus you just don't have stupid crap like this break on jap cars.

    • @ermax9054

      I found it. No need to pull the radio. It's on the top side of the air box basically directly above the drivers side actuator (the one show in the video). You have to pull the center vents and trim that goes across the dash. It back in there and looks like it will be nearly impossible to get to but it was surprisingly easy. i.imgur.com/kz2ObfE.jpg i.imgur.com/KqIPRfT.jpg
