So basically, Genji is a mind game hero. -Most people think he'll jump a lot, so don't jump unless you need to. This'll confuse them... -...which leads into: stay still and bait for a reflect -Having trouble killing someone? No problem, leave them and kill their healer in front of their very eyes. Make them regret not being able to save the healer. Make them regret being born. Make them question their existence. Fuck them up.
Yu Narukami but as far as what I've seen on Xbox a good mccree just takes me down easily. He just waits for me to jump right in front of his crosshairs.
But it's even harder to be a jumpy genji who does solid damage on console because unless you have a scuf controller you cant jump and aim at the same time
This is probably one of the best Genji guides out there. I have the confidence to run Genji now that I understand how and when to use his double jumps.
Have never watched a Genji guide video before and I've always just played Genji as my main. I do really good with him so it shocked me when someone started freaking out on me in the chat saying I suck and my positioning is awful. I decided, "Hey maybe I was doing something wrong" and looked up this guide. It literally looks identical to what I do, every single tip mentioned in this video. Gotta love this community...
New Overwatch advanced genji guide from Youroverwatch! This tips video will teach you the more important parts of genjis movement and when to utilize it! Let us know if this helped and be sure to drop a Like & Subscribe if you enjoyed!
Your Overwatch One of the biggest things about the new genji and movement is learning to save your second jump when wall climbing. Surprises a lot of people since they think you cannot jump off of walls anymore.
You can get a high jump plus a double jump if you do the following: 1. Jump 2. Press Space right before you hit the ground. You know this will work if it looks like you jump, but Genji's arms and throwing stars do not move. 3. This is highly based on lag. Using this is taking advantage of the lag between landing and double-jumping. I wish I could make a video about this, but I don't have a camera to record.
Weagal, thank you so much for these. Your commentary is absolutely amazing. I've recently started picking up Genji and really focusing on getting better. This video is one of the best I've come across. Thanks a ton, man. Everyone on Your Overwatch, keep up the amazing work!
even though it does damage, if you need to draw it it means your in 1 v 1 with a damage dealer and you're screwed (not always, I already 1 v 1 a hanzo and a mc cree and won, but that is pure luck) The only time I take it out is when I'm alone and desperatelly need my ult to rez the team
Use it when attacked and have no where to GA to, if you are a good shot (which i'm not) sometimes you can surprise the other flanker and kill them, most of them don't expect the Mercy to fight back. Another time to use it is when you spot an easy pick, usually it's a distracted and/or low HP enemy, as a Mercy you always look for hidey holes and those opportunities come more often than you think - that's provided there isn't pressing healing you need to, that obviously is a priority. Lastly, and that's a bit questionable, you can use it when your team is healthy to spam a Reinshield or try to get some pot shots in to charge your ult, but one might argue that it's smarter to damage boost an actual damage dealer.
I take it out if I'm putting a beam on a teammate who starts to get flanked and doesn't notice it (I don't use voice chat). So instead of keeping the beam on them while they soak up damage I switch to pistol and hold the button down strafing back and forth at head level. I find her pistol usually surprises me.
just dash up and ult when ur falling in midair. once u drop on someone slash dash slash and then dash to another guy and kilhim and dash. should get at least 2 kills. average is 3. if ur lucky is 4. I'm a diamond Genji
Neʟsky when ever my ult is on, i got 0 kills, 1000 damage and died. When im in regular mode, 3-6 elims per team wipe or wave (if u stayed alive and wait for the other team to respawn while caping the point or wat ever) but like 500 damags
Can we get something similar to this with Tracer mostly on when/how to initiate the enemy team. Should I be the one to open up the backline alone or should I have someone with me, things like that.
I was watching Seagal earlier. And I noticed you shouldn't initiate with a dash unless you know you can kill the target. Because it leaves you very vulnerable and with no escape are usually use wall climbing double jump to get in an enemy's face and then I finish them off with dash and dash out with the reset
Weagull, I know that you know this, but Genjis ult resets swift strike. Is there a specific reason you ult first? (For example to not leave yourself vulnerable?)
I need to work on pretty much everything in this vid. I jump around way more than i should, often causing me to miss sword slashes. Genuinely helpful video. Thanks.
I also need to work on shurikens a lot. Current accuracy is 33% with crits being 8%, but again, i jump around far more than i should so raising that stat shouldn't be too hard to achieve
am I the only one who just loves the way this guy talks like he slows down when hes finishing the sentence ?

Thanks for the video, I needed to brush up on my Genji skills. I like this video because it brought out some stuff I didn't really think about when I would play as him, like only jumping when you need to, and try not to jump while throwing your stars. I'll keep all this in mind when I play as him next. Again, thank you.
Hey, Weagal, is there a way to practice shuriken accuracy other than just practice? The training area doesn't help and ana headshot doesn't help at all. His shuriken aim is the only part of him that I think needs improvement. My average is 40% but I haven't been able to improve it.
Other than playing him routinely I'm not sure what else you can do. Maybe adjust your mobility like mentioned in the video. If you're jumping needlessly it may throw off some of your shots.
I enjoy watching all of your guides a lot, even when I don't play the heroes the guide's about ^^' Anyways, it's always useful to understand better how my teammates and enemies play.
By far your best video 10/10 would like to see these kinds of videos again. Also really cool that you include mistakes and dont just show off how good you are! very nice Tutorial, Keep it up!
I main Genji, on console, and nearly everything you said here was correct, 24 hours in as him, and he is a flanker, you can catch players off guard, force the team to split up, making it easier for your teammates to push, he's a staple hero and helps in many good compositions.
Im a diamond genji main and im known for at least my friends know that i have relaly good blades so at 4:47, u got lucky but if u in a situation where ur under a ledge where u cant move too much, i would dash through everyone and then blade so u have more room to move. Then ur swift strike resets and u can target who u need to.
Being one of the hardest targets to hit is what I bank on as a Lúcio main. Also: I will not hesitate to kill a Genji as him. Practice makes headshot aim on the slippery ones better! Super helpful vid!!
quick question: if you deflect something does the properties of what is being deflected remain the same? example; if you deflect a roadhog shot is there a dmg drop off or if you deflect a hanzo arrow does it still have to compensated for the drop? Ive never really noticed as i usually am deflected at close range anyway so i was just wondering if this is the case
Yes everything is the same. It's like you become that character using the ability. Even things like Hanzo's sonic will give your team wallhacks instead of theirs.
Yes, that's the case. That's why when I'm deflecting Junkrat grenades or Spamzo shots I usually compensate for the trajectory by aiming up a bit - headshotting a Hanzo with his arrow is awesome.
I noticed at 1:42 you chose to left click the zarya even though she was fairly close enough to right click for potentially more dos is there a reason why you did this?
Another tip that isnt about movement but his ulti is that try to aim lower coz the range and the hitbox of his slashing is bigger on top while the bottom half has a smaller hitbox
Nice guide, made me realise how easy shots are if im not double jumping. Im double jumping even when im chasing players and no one is chasing me! Edit : i Think you should always be at a 45 degree angle when using ult as hitboxes are bigger, you are harder to hit (gonna get focused cause your ulting) and its not hard to hit with ur blade anyway
I loved your guide, and I'm also diamond, but in every game when I do any of the sort (volskaya flank on point or get behind the enemy on any map) my team usually just stands there, looking, waiting for the enemy to come back to the choke. Again, great guide, just need some 6stacks going for me.
Love the video as always. A little constructive criticism (and I'm not Genji expert, not by a long shot) but at 1:40 shouldn't you have been using right-click to do better DPS to Zarya? Or is there a reason you were using primary fire that I'm not aware of?
if you are in a capture point with genji you should swift strike up the you ult then wait till you fall or if you have someone under you swift strike and swing to dmg them a aliite
Wait I saw in the gameplay that you were getting swift strike earlier then you should have a few times. Does swift strike's cooldown reset after every frag then or is it what I thought and you need to kill with the swift strike to reset it?
It's every elimination the Genji gets. So, if you toss a shuriken at Pharah in midair and tag her, swift strike somewhere else and then your Widow snipes her out of the air, your swift strike will reset. Basically, if you were reasonably involved in the kill in any way, you'll get the reset.
at the second point at volskya indosties you should have slash dash slash dash with your ult you can kill people much faster and when they are all there grouped up you deal masive dmg with you dash aswell
Should include that when in a situation with a rein and you need to get out. Use your deflect obviously to block the hammer, but always jump when you are going to get hit by the hammer it will make you go flying slightly and you get a free couple meters
Personally I actually think is that you should not stand still while fighting anything even lucio. After playing Genji and watching Shadowburn and SeaGull I found that they are always moving. The reason behind this is if they are fighting a lucio and he does land one punch in, that is crazy value because Genji only has 200 health and in turn it will make you so much easier to kill, or if you are fighting a Lucio and you stand still, a Hanzo, widow or even a Mcree could easily kill you. At first it is fine because you wont have to worry to much about those characters so practice your aim, but later in the game around even plat you will need to learn to aim and jump at the same time so when to go into a team fight you wont be killed instantly by a pretty much everything. This is just my opinion but everything else in this review is great, love the work! :]
I am a Genji Main I'm top 500 number 1 and the only thing I say is Before using your Dragonblade climb a wall and jump again and wait for a mercy to boost your dmg or for a nanoboost, if not only do it with your team on your side
k, 2 mins in this vid, title of the video is "advanced genji guide: Movement & positioning tips" though so far only thing im seeing is commentating on gameplay, hopefully there will be a part in this video that goes straight into tips in some cases, for example u could have cut into the reflecting the rein "e" skill then move on to the next point, and so on, that being said, i do believe the points you mentioned are very helpful and thanks for this video !
there was some times when u should have used the alt fire for genji like when the zarya got slept u couldve done a lot more damge and secure the kill faster but otherwise ur pretty good
Quick tip: when facing a Winston, all you have to do is keep your distance and just shoot at him. Once he leaps at you, just swift strike to his previous spot and run away if you want.
I main genji, 50+ hours and i say that you should jump and jump and jump all the time when in 1 on 1 situations. You should adjust to his shurikens while airborne as well as grounded. It makes it harder on them and with the right amount of practice with your aerial aiming, youll win a lot more 1 on 1's.
Oh also dont reply some shit about how he was right because it makes it harder and takes too long to adjust. If you watched this video then you want to be an advanced genji player and if not then you wasted your damn time.
Weagal can I ask you 2 questions: Are you playing in US or EU and my personal Genji experience is that I orient better and shoot more accurate when I jump a lot, what do you think?
Always target mercy, zen, lucio as supports. Then dps. Part of the key with genji is he needs frags to reset his dash for both damage and mobility. Genji's ult is 120 damage a swing, with one swing per second. It's usually best to take out the dps, because you can do it in half the time (if no healers) and because most dps have big ults that could hurt your team. As for when is a bit more complex. For the majority of the time do it when your team is initiating and disruptive abilities are on cd (hook, transendence). Any time the enemy team is stacked up and not paying attention to you is decent as well as your sword is aoe. And always fucking kill Mercy first.
Weagal, in a genji vs genji situation...this one time when i was playing as genji and the opposing team had a genji and many times it felt like he was out playing me and killing my teammates often. And then my team was saying stuff like; their genji is really good etc. i felt a bit sorry to my team. If it was you would u stay genji and try to stay focused on ur role as genji or change picks?
If you play on console you should switch jump to your left bumper and swift strike to your left analog stick. It'll let you jump and aim at the same time.
you do realize that it gives free movement to your thumb right? same thing with pharah... you can't properly hover and move x being the default to jump.. because then it's incredibly awkward to aim
Andy Kim considering the fact you have to take your thumb off the analog stick to press A or X to default jump on console; no one can aim while jumping. Not with ease that is.
Micilo 419 I don't know about it being "Much more effective." As long as you aren't taking your thumbs off the analog sticks it should be more or less the same either way.
it doesn't really matter for certain characters like mcree ... but for genji and pharah who's movement involves a lot of jumping /hovering.. you'll only be fucking up your aim if you leave it at the default setting
So basically, Genji is a mind game hero.
-Most people think he'll jump a lot, so don't jump unless you need to. This'll confuse them...
-...which leads into: stay still and bait for a reflect
-Having trouble killing someone? No problem, leave them and kill their healer in front of their very eyes. Make them regret not being able to save the healer. Make them regret being born. Make them question their existence.
Fuck them up.
lmao copy pasta this now
Tail Code well that got dark quick
Tail Code yip
Tail Code perfect analogy XD
Tail Code -try make friends with them and then throw your shurikens in their face!
A jumpy Genji is even more of a bitch to deal with on consoles
Yu Narukami haha youre right
Yu Narukami but as far as what I've seen on Xbox a good mccree just takes me down easily. He just waits for me to jump right in front of his crosshairs.

Git gud
Does anyone else think it's so satisfying to deflect a sniping widowmaker
Definitely, right up there with deflecting Deadeye and Barrage.
Bryce Presto lmao YES one of the best things about OW so far. also deflecting a sniping hanzo ;)
YEASHHH!
Bryce Preston or deflecting Hanzo’s ult
??????????? Yes
Why double jump when you don't need to?
Because it's fun

This is probably one of the best Genji guides out there.
I have the confidence to run Genji now that I understand how and when to use his double jumps.
Weagul, you're getting so much better at speaking in your videos. Your enunciation and enthusiasm is on point. Much love.
Have never watched a Genji guide video before and I've always just played Genji as my main. mercy guide on when to switch from beam to gun maybe?
Main tip : Don't never ever use your gun.
buti t does a surprising amount of damage
even though it does damage, if you need to draw it it means your in 1 v 1 with a damage dealer and you're screwed (not always, I already 1 v 1 a hanzo and a mc cree and won, but that is pure luck)

I want to main Genji he's a cool looking dude but i can't land his ult. :(
Same here. I only get like one kill with his Dragon Blade. But I mained his brother instead, so yeaaaah.

Thanks for the guide! I often forget that Genji has those movement abilities. I usually just run around and die a lot.
I've been learning to main genji for awhile now and these guides really help out (: thanks
By far your best video
10/10 would like to see these kinds of videos again.
Also really cool that you include mistakes and dont just show off how good you are!
very nice Tutorial, Keep it up!
I watched this video and one of my regular teammates told me he was seeing a huge improvement in my Genji play later the same day.
I main Genji, on console, and nearly everything you said here was correct, 24 hours in as him, and he is a flanker, you can catch players off guard, force the team to split up, making it easier for your teammates to push, he's a staple hero and helps in many good compositions.
wow thanks, very usefull!!
You don't use swift strike resets and animation cancels during your ultimate very well.
I do sometimes, its a weaker part of my game and im working on it :) -W
Thanks, this vid helped me get one of my best scores to date
Im a diamond genji main and im known for at least my friends know that i have relaly good blades so at 4:47, u got lucky but if u in a situation where ur under a ledge where u cant move too much, i would dash through everyone and then blade so u have more room to move. Could you make a video on when to use genji's ult and how to get good value out of it

No, you do not need to get the final blow. It will reset after the frag too
super helpful video man thanks for sharing with all of us!
cool this might really help me learn genji. I'm having a tough time getting him learned properly
I think your links to the old video need to take your advice and know when to attack too. Great vid :p
Thank you so much this actually helped me quite a bit

Thx I tried these tack ticks and they worked
at the second point at volskya indosties you should have slash dash slash dash with your ult you can kill people much faster and when they are all there grouped up you deal masive dmg with you dash aswell
how to genji don't group up,never change and get bronze eliminations
10/10 advice

Excellent work! I feel more motivated after I tilted last game
Can you make a guide oh how/when to use his ultimate because every time I use it I die or I get no kills with him
Can you make another guide on who to focus as genji? i feel like i die too much as genji to tanks which i shouldn't be challenging.
when watching this I realised that genji is best when staying with your team, this is most emphasised in the bit on Dorado.
why do you sometimes use left-click on tanks when they're in front of you?
not enough was said about climbing over walls to pop in and out and do damage and go back to safety/healthpacks
Is the second ability (the horisontal shuriken throw-thing, sry I'm bad at english) the most effective at close range? Sorry if I'm just being stupid.
Most useful guide I've seen, thanks
Thanks for the info I've always been double jumping in completely irrelevant times and wondering like: "why the hell cant i land crap"
Yea, another Genji guide ^^
Whats the awesome intro song? :D
can you make a genji guide about when to use his ult
k, 2 mins in this vid, title of the video is "advanced genji guide: Movement & positioning tips" though so far only thing im seeing is commentating on gameplay, hopefully there will be a part in this video that goes straight into tips in some cases, for example u could have cut into the reflecting the rein "e" skill then move on to the next point, and so on,
that being said, i do believe the points you mentioned are very helpful and thanks for this video !
Shouldn't solders health poison do damage the enemy team
Gonzalo Valenzuela What ?
I'm good at Genji but......,
*I NEED HEALING*
I have learned from this! Maybe one day i live in a world where i don’t have to call ”I need healing” every half second
This made me understand genji and do awsome at him
where did the livestream go?
something something pro Genji
Tyler James is that a pro Jenji ? JENJI NOT DAMN GENJI MUHAHAHHA
Narwhal Nation his name is Gengu
there was some times when u should have used the alt fire for genji like when the zarya got slept u couldve done a lot more damge and secure the kill faster but otherwise ur pretty good
I tend to not see my opponents when I use my dragonblade is there anyway to fix it?
Should i use left click or right click?
Ty I really learned a lot from this video👍
Quick tip: when facing a Winston, all you have to do is keep your distance and just shoot at him. Once he leaps at you, just swift strike to his previous spot and run away if you want.
Whenever you kill someone your swift strike resets?
Gizmo aP yes
Even a shuriken kill or reflect kill?
any kill
Gizmo aP Any kill or assist resets your Swift Strike
I main genji, 50+ hours and i say that you should jump and jump and jump all the time when in 1 on 1 situations. You should adjust to his shurikens while airborne as well as grounded. It makes it harder on them and with the right amount of practice with your aerial aiming, youll win a lot more 1 on 1's.
Oh also dont reply some shit about how he was right because it makes it harder and takes too long to adjust. If you watched this video then you want to be an advanced genji player and if not then you wasted your damn time.
So yeah dont bother arguing his point
What music is used in the end of the video?
Does this work on versus AI on only medium or hard too?
Weagal can I ask you 2 questions: Are you playing in US or EU and my personal Genji experience is that I orient better and shoot more accurate when I jump a lot, what do you think?
Mainly EU but some NA and i always find it easier to hit them when not jumping, got over a 40% which i think is pretty good for genji :)
Thanks, I really needed this.
Can you deflect riegnhearts blast
very useful, just want to ask, for a 6s genji, when use ult who should kill first if there is no healer, only dps tank and defense?
when should use ult and who should kill first
Always target mercy, zen, lucio as supports.
+lazycouch1 Thank you so much, very helpful
Weagal, in a genji vs genji situation...this one time when i was playing as genji and the opposing team had a genji and many times it felt like he was out playing me and killing my teammates often. And then my team was saying stuff like; their genji is really good etc. i felt a bit sorry to my team. If it was you would u stay genji and try to stay focused on ur role as genji or change picks?
i always deflect flashbangs but because my reflect is up i cant follow up, help?
Good vid, makes me wanna try out Genji now ^^
If you play on console you should switch jump to your left bumper and swift strike to your left analog stick. It'll let you jump and aim at the same time.
Silnt Mayn lol you can't jump/aim at the same time? Noob
you do realize that it gives free movement to your thumb right? same thing with pharah... you can't properly hover and move x being the default to jump.. because then it's incredibly awkward to aim
Hey YourOverwatch,
What sens and dpi do you use on genji?
