Thomas Lee Miller “black star dancing”, well its actually Fashion by DB, but I’m pretty sure that’s where this tune is derived from. Hence the supermodels in the video - might be wrong?
The bands could exist today but they don't for the same reason Chinese bands exist but don't write songs about personal freedom. It is the same in the west - bands self censor for fear of 'consequences' (being cancelled, not getting any airplay or a recording contract). If they don't self censor then they just sink into relative obscurity uploading their unheralded efforts on you tube. But for those who dream of old school commercial success the lack of creative freedom required to succeed these days kills the fun, humor, honesty, optimism and just about every other real emotion that songs are capable of conveying (and which were the hallmarks of the free wheeling 80s music scene). Although we didn't realize it while we were living those years it turns out the 80s were a unique moment in time that saw a freakish convergence of social, political and cultural drivers that produced 80s music and those circumstances will never be repeated. It was a high point just like Fin de siècle Paris was a high point for artists. And just as the 1890s Paris art scene withered and eventually died on the fields of France in WW1) the 80s music scene was unsustainable beyond the 80s. But at least we can relive the sights and sounds of that era courtesy of dedicated uploaders to YT.

Now retired and spending hours listening to music certain songs remind of a time/place. In 1983 I was working in Saudi Arabia and was driving my Mazda 626 from Jeddah to Taif up the old escarpment road. I filled up with petrol just before the Christian Bypass round Makkah and bought a few cassettes in the garage. New Gold Dream was one of them, hearing this now I am 23 again without a care in the world.... #goodolddays
Still think this is their best song. I know they had still greater success with a couple of big anthems later, but this is it. Loved it since I first heard it in 1981 and purchased New Gold Dream immediately.
This sort of music comes from the whole culture in which it was created. If we want more stuff of this caliber we need to go forth to a culture that values everyone who is creative and innovative and is able to and prepared to put in the hours of practice. A culture that values cooperation over competition.

Belief is a beauty thing
Promises, promises
As golden days break wondering
Chance
As love takes a train
Summer breeze and brilliant light
Only love she sees
He controls on love
Love sails to a new life
Promised you a miracle
Belief is a beauty thing
Promises, promises
As golden days break wondering
Only love she sees
He controls on love
Life throws a curve
Everything is possible
With promises
Everything is possible
Oh oh
I promised you a miracle
Belief is a beauty thing
Promises, promises
As golden days break wondering
Chance
Reflects on them a while
Love screams so quietly
Slipping back on golden times
Breathing with sweet memories
I promised you a miracle
Belief is a beauty thing
Promises, promises
As golden days break wondering
Only love she sees
He controls on love
Life throws a curve
Everything is possible
In the game of life
Everything is possible
Chance
Lost pearls of great price
Take care of family
Only aches for love
Love waits for fame
In chance, in chance, they'll see
I promised you a miracle
Belief is a beauty thing
Promises, promises
As golden days break wondering
Only love she sees
He controls on love
Life throws a curve
Everything is possible
In the game of life
A burning dream
You can be Queen
Everything is possible...
Thanks for this.
Great Song! Thanks🎆
Never appreciated Simple Minds in the 80's when I was 16-17. They are still brilliant and timeless. Music now is commercial schieße!
Glittering Prize is almost as good as this, but not quite in my opinion.
I love the last "I promed you.."-opening of the last chorus! Both in sound and vision!
Few albums have sounded this good before, and since.
Great bass! total 80s
This song was the finale to a vivid dream I had last night. I think I should go back to sleep.
Wow 🤩 pretty cool
The best song from this band
Can't believe they've started doing their songs acoustically...the synths were what made them!!
I can't believe it either
You think this is a joke? Is that what you think this is? How many million albums have you sold?
Mick Macneil LEGEND ! Not the same when he left !
Definitely AGREE with your comment. Sons & Fascination/Sister Feelings Call, Empires & Dance, & of course New Gold Dream were 'Superb' albums.
One of my favourite 80s bands, they kept coming out with hit after hit.
I love her natural beauty shining through! No giant false eyelashes, no dark self-tan and and no tiny bikini - Less is more. A sheer class act.🙂
She's rocking 80s blush though, which I still love. Jim is too lol
True, but she's also dressed in a more masculine manner than the band, lol!
Does anyone know who she was?
@@russelldickinson3290 I believe she was an on the rise fashion model at the time
She is just listed as uncredited. A shame when she is featured on the video.
That bassline is just brilliant.
Another 80s masterpiece.
80s alternative music is the best
This didn't count as alternative music here in the UK. It was mainstream.
@@ajs41 No David Lee Roth piriouetting in spandex counts as alternative in the US, I suppose.
A masterpiece!
This sort of music comes from the whole culture in which it was created. If we want more stuff of this caliber we need to go forth to a culture that values everyone who is creative and innovative and is able to and prepared to put in the hours of practice. A culture that values cooperation over competition.
Absolutely 💯 brilliant comment.
Never been a fan of 80's era pop but then tis popped into my head and, had to play it here of course. So now i'm listening to this track. It is absolutely BRILLIANT . Which in turn was the gateway to Talk Talk and I get it now, such high value productions i'm in awe. after so many decades. This is FIRE
1982 is, by far, my favourite year in popular music.
1982 music videos playlist I've put together with more than 600 videos: th-cam.com/play/PL6oCQqv2KW6XTK18evV5q9WAua3eshkiS.html
@@ajs41 Thanks. Will you add One Step Further by Bardo?
Jim is adorable
Damn! That bass! Magnificent!
An amazing sound... a fantastic clip... it was just so freaking exciting when it came out in '82. I taped it off the TV and watched it over and over and over.
