It happened last week. My mother was in the nursery home in the Netherlands, she is 90 years old and in the last days of her life. My wife and me were in the car, coming from Denmark on our way to the Netherlands, to make sure to be in time before she passed away. When we were half an hour on the road, we got a phone call from the nursery home, that my mother just passed away. We did not make it and were too late. I pulled the car aside on a parking lot, and just when we stopped, the Simple Minds - Alive and kicking was played on the Danish radio. Just on the exact moment that we heard that my mam passed away. My wife and and me hugged each other and bursted in tears. I miss you mam, R.I.P., be alive and kicking in heaven.
52yrs old. I love this song. Graduated high school in 1984. This one of the best songs and still is. Yes I'm old but still kicking. Wish more like me out there. Phoenix, AZ USA
I used to visit Phoenix and Scottsdale in the 80’s for vacation at my uncles huge house. He had a pool I would lay by all day swimming and jamming. I’m 47. What a cool song. Oh, and I lived in San Diego. When I went back people would freak on how dark my tan was. Haha!
@@CarlMazur I guess aside by the swimming pool you had a radio which used to play 80s music hits. Btw I'm 14 but I love 80s & 70s music thanks to my dad for introducing me to it
Amigo tenho 56,aqui no Brasil também foi a última década de músicas de alto nível, temos um grupo no ZAP só pode postar músicas ,a maioria de qualidade,
This is a song that I remember from my teenage years. Now it’s giving me new hope as I’m going through a very rough time in my life and I’m struggling with the dark demons of depression. This is such a great, uplifting song. Thanks Jim Kerr and Simple Minds!
I'm going through serious stress anxiety and depression myself and I'm up and down like a hookers knickers but we just have to keep strong and take stuff day by day as 2019/20/21/22 are four of the darkest years of my life and many others are saying the same!!!
I'll be 60 years old this year. I've lived almost six decades and yet, the best music still came from the 80's. And there's not just one powerhouse group. There were dozens and dozens. Simple Minds may have been just one of many but they were never just Simple Minds. Their music rocked stadiums, night clubs, and many private parties in the Air Force dorms. We had the best music, the best clothes, and the biggest hair. Never been another decade like it. Never will be.
I have never been young in the 80s. I was born in 1998. Today, something brought me here. Listening this in 2022, I got shivers all over my spine. Such a great song that makes me happy, young and alive for no reason. I even teared up when the piano part hit. Strange feeling of nostalgia for the times that never existed in my life...
The music of the 80"s was alive and kicking and is alive and kicking still today. There was life, joy, energy, and power in each music of this age. I am proud with my 51 years old because we lived this age so marvelous. There will be no more time like those years.
Simple Minds - quietly one of the best bands of the 80's era. You just don't realize how big this band was until you start listening to all the hit songs from this time frame. I am on of their biggest fans - graduating HS is 1987 - I still have printed on my checks "ALIVE AND KICKING"........and will never change that!!!!
from '66 too? I am. I too write "alive & kickin'" here or there every now and then ;-) I agree, it's in hindsight that you realize how good much of the 80s music really was. Amazing. Nothing like it.
I graduated in 1987, too. But, I wasn't a fan. I was more into U2, Madonna The Cure, Susie and the Bianchi, Duran Duran. I heard this song a lot, but it didn't stick. I guess, I was more into pop. INXS. I loved them and The Violet Fams.
My sweet beautiful wife of over 40 years has the worst singing voice. But when she starts singing with this song whenever she hears it, it brings such joy to my heart.
This was one of the most beautiful track out of the 80s I can remember sitting in the car this song playing feeling free and alive It was a great time with even greater music. Thanks Simple Minds
11.7.2024 I was 20 in 1981: so many choices of exceptional bands and artists. I’m proud to say I’m still working in Healthcare, still loving that and definitely, Simple Minds, this song, ‘Alive And Kicking,’ in particular. I’m now 63😮Who else is listening???? Love, Wendy from Australia ❤
I can’t believe that I have neglected to listen to so much of the 1980s music. I’m now totally into bands like Simple Minds, Tears For Fears, Spandau Ballet, Talk Talk, and I’m still just scratching the surface. There is a plethora of amazing 80s pop and rock music that I must explore.
I suppose one of the upsides to a decade filled with one hit wonders due to oversaturation is that there is a LOT of enjoyable content to listen to. One of the more unknown successful groups though is Sisters of Mercy, do give them a listen certainly.
There is no way around it ..... Thank God I was born in the 60s, grew up in the 70s, and got married in the 80s .... 3 of the greatest decades of music that never will be repeated again .... Lived , Loved, Laughed, and Danced during them .... the youth today I would love to take you back with me and live them all over again
+JOHNNY .BOY I couldn't have said that better --- we were blessed and there was a special sound about great music that was made in the 80s that you can just know that is the decade it was pressed to the album. I was born in 65 and I used to sit during the 70s with my 45s and play them for hours. Remember the little plasic thing that you used to have to put into the middle of a 45 so that it could play on a 33 turntable? Well, if you want to have some fun, find one of those and show it to a kid of the younger generation today and ask if they can figure out what it is for (lol) --- Keep listening to the choice music, friends. I'll see you around the videos.
You know, one of the best things about being in my 50's now is that I lived my teenage years in the 80's..........Priceless and I wouldn't change them for the world!🇬🇧
I remember when this song was current, and I was always moved by it. The whole song works so well, the words the singers, the strength in the arrangement. Still uplifting as ever. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
@@marcdaniels9079 Just stating facts. The amount of musicians, bands, albums, concerts, legendary festivals, all kinds of genres. 1966-1974 ,best time ever for music

You turn me on You lift me up Like the sweetest cup I'd share with you You lift me up Don't you ever stop, I'm here with you Now it's all or nothing 'Cause you say you'll follow through You follow me, and i, i, I follow you What you gonna do when things go wrong? What you gonna do when it all cracks up? What you gonna do when the love burns down? What you gonna do when the flames go up? Who is gonna come and turn the tide? What's it gonna take to make a dream survive? Who's got the touch to calm the storm inside? Who's gonna save you? Alive and kicking Stay until your love is Alive and kicking Stay 'til your love is Until your love is, alive Oh You lift me up To the crucial top, so I can see Oh you lead me on, till the feelings come And the lights that shine on But if that don't mean nothing Like if someday it should fall through You'll take me home where the magic's from And I'll be with you What you gonna do when things go wrong? What you gonna do when it all cracks up? What you gonna do when the love burns down? What you gonna do when the flames go up? Who is gonna come and turn the tide? What's it gonna take to make a dream survive? Who's got the touch to calm the storm inside? Don't say goodbye, don't say goodbye In the final seconds who's gonna save you? Ooh oh, oh oh Alive and kicking Oh stay until your love is Love is Alive and kicking Ooh oh, oh oh Alive and kicking Oh stay until your love is, love is Alive and kicking Ooh oh Alive and kicking Stay until your love is Alive and kicking, oh Stay until your love is Alive and kicking, oh Stay until your love
I graduated in 1987. We really had no idea what an amazing time in history that decade was going to be and how lucky we were to be young then. The music is still amazing now. Timeless really.
The most optimistic and inspirational pop song I have ever heard. I am 40 and just discovered this somehow 4 years ago. Missed quite the big boat on this one! My favorite song.
Me too. I think I remember hearing it sometime in 1985 like in October or November. Could have been September. Never forgot it. I may have liked it then.

The song would not be what is should be without her backing vocals. algorithyms do not understand these kind of things. I was born in 1972, graduateed in 1990, and I still find this one every weekend. Thumbs up
I was 15 in 1985. I was playing with a mate on a building site and we were messing around with throwing rocks. Then I got hit in the mouth by a rock. I had a big cut in my upper lip and I was missing two teeth. I was sick at home for a while and because I was so sick and miserable my mum bought the single "Alive and Kicking" by Simple Minds. My soul was already sold on Simple Minds because of their earlier song "Don't You Forget About Me". I'm 54 now and I've grown to appreciate Simple Minds' music even more, up until "Street Fighting Years". After that I kind of lost them, I think it was because Mick MacNeil left the band. Their music is so incredibly beautiful. Simple Minds are the most underrated band of the 80s.
I love how music brings people together. I listen to this and feel nostalgic and happy and I see so many comments reflecting the same sentiments. 80s music will always be my favorite, but music in general is just so damn essential to humanity!
We had no clue that we were living in the best era of music. We thought it would continue forever. Thankfully we have access to remind ourselves how good it was
Absolutely! The song was written by members of the band. They had invested themselves into their craft. Their passion and creativity are here in the beauty that they put forth. When we humans put forth that kind of energy in anything we are created to do, it blesses EVERYONE who can appreciate it. Are there still singer/song writers today?
Yes I can only listen to my Christian music Hebrew worship songs and some of the good 80s Thank you simple minds for simple yet beautiful Grand music. I LOVE his voice. This song is immortal. I am 62. My kids love it. I love it. I only saw the video recently (last 5-10 years) because could not afford MTV back in the day. Love it! It is one of the songs that makes life worth living and certainly an epic from the 1980s.
To me this song is pure magic. The video, the lyrics, the music and both their voices brings shivers down one's spine. I never get tired of listening. The introduction is out of this world !
no, there is some great music being written right now, but it´s not mainstream music, it is the indie underground artist, but most people dont appreciate them or even care, and thats the truth
Albert Bevia yes I have to agree with you. Kids nowadays listen to complete and utter rubbish. Music industry is gone. I personally think once all the legends have gone music will become history.
Another absolutely amazing song from 80s. Love it, love all the music from that era, great sound, great uplifting and makes you feel good. Brings back a lot of nostalgia and great memories. Absolutely incredible.

Who listens to music from the 20's anymore? Kids. Even in the 2010's, adults could listen to the stuff kids listened to somewhat, now it's all utter fucking dross.
London in the 80's had to be nothing short of wonderful. I often tell people I'd gladly trade the remaining 30 years of my life for the opportunity to go back 30 years and have a do-over.
Back in 1985, when I was pregnant with our first child, I was in a bad car accident, then not a month later a chair collapsed under me at work. We were so worried that we lost the baby, but then he’d resume his rolling and kicking. Yay!!! We dedicated this song to our child! …. I love this song!!!

Born in 87 with much older Gen X sisters so I appreciated 80s music much more than music that released during my prime. At times, I wish I was born in the early 70s so I could've seen this stuff as it released. Would make seeing today's pop culture that much more painful though.
The piano break at 3:20 always hits me in the feels. I think I had an alarm clock that would play something that sounded similar to it so it always makes me feel nostalgic. I wasn’t alive in the 80s, but boy do I love what came out of it.

Congratulations to @Simple Minds for reaching 100 million views of such a quality classic song!
Those were the years when you could enjoy singing, clapping and dancing as well. I lived in and enjoyed 80's to the fullest.
OMG. Vocals, piano, drums, guitar, base, everything...superb sounds...just the best song
Real talent real music my son 🍷💊🍺🤘⛽🦞🍺🍺🍺🍺🚀🚀
This song says it all. The 80's were the best days of my life.
This is a song that I remember from my teenage years. Now it’s giving me new hope as I’m going through a very rough time in my life and I’m struggling with the dark demons of depression. This is such a great, uplifting song. Thanks Jim Kerr and Simple Minds!
I wish you will have enough power to keep your head up high. Maybe "let there be love" from Simple Minds will brighten your days and nights.
I'm going through serious stress anxiety and depression myself and I'm up and down like a hookers knickers but we just have to keep strong and take stuff day by day as 2019/20/21/22 are four of the darkest years of my life and many others are saying the same!!!

This song is what dream's are made of...........
Pure class!
Ernie Bert :Agreed.
Well said.. 👍👍
Awesome it was . fuck yeah!
it's cos we didn't have woke, globalists trying to destroy us, happier time, better governance and
I listened to this when I was 16,1984 a group of us went to Croyd bay, camp site
I sooooooooooooooooooooooooo agree. The best! x
When music was music❤
I have never been young in the 80s. I was born in 1998. Today, something brought me here. Listening this in 2022, I got shivers all over my spine. Such a great song that makes me happy, young and alive for no reason. I even teared up when the piano part hit. Strange feeling of nostalgia for the
times that never existed in my life...
imagine a life with no internet too.
@@peacelovingmusicwarrior5823 It was so great.
Welcome to the '80s bro
Wish you were there...but then, maybe you were in a previous life.
I'm that way with 60's folk/rock transition.
The music of the 80"s was alive and kicking and is alive and kicking still today. There was life, joy, energy, and power in each music of this age. I am proud with my 51 years old because we lived this age so marvelous. There will be no more time like those years.
Right there with ya. Proud Class of 1989. The best years, the best music, the best of times.
Amen . . . perfectly said. I'm almost 56 and there's never been a better decade for music.
And its all coming back, like the vinels. 💪❤️
Great way to describe it, which is why I tend to gravitate to it.
Me too 55
Simple Minds - quietly one of the best bands of the 80's era.
You should go further back.
This is quite rubbish compared to the previous albums.
@@DebbieTDP I don't think it's about how good the song is, it's about capturing an emotional picture in the youthful mind.

My sweet beautiful wife of over 40 years has the worst singing voice. But when she starts singing with this song whenever she hears it, it brings such joy to my heart.
You got really lucky, most of us didn't get that kind of thing.
The 80s will keep bringing back memories albeit gone forever.

Try some Erasure and Duran Duran bro...if you want rock try AC/DC or Metallica...cool tunes to ease the soul man.👍
Talking Heads. New Order.
I suppose one of the upsides to a decade filled with one hit wonders due to oversaturation is that there is a LOT of enjoyable content to listen to. One of the more unknown successful groups though is Sisters of Mercy, do give them a listen certainly.
The Smiths, Echo and the Bunnymen
There's an awesome German band too, Nena

Born in 87. I feel such a connection with music like this. I'm actually in love with it. It's crazy that music is what it is today.
Yeah this is the song
It was the peak of music. 90s dropped a bit from there and has been tumbling since
There is no way around it ..... Thank God I was born in the 60s, grew up in the 70s, and got married in the 80s .... 3 of the greatest decades of music that never will be repeated again .... Lived , Loved, Laughed, and Danced during them .... the youth today I would love to take you back with me and live them all over again
+JOHNNY .BOY i gotta totally agree with ya bro!... :-)
+JOHNNY .BOY You speak the truth :)

What you gonna do when things go wrong?
What you gonna do when it all cracks up?
What you gonna do when the love burns down?
What you gonna do when the flames go up?
Who is gonna come and turn the tide?
What's it gonna take to make a dream survive?
Who's got the touch to calm the storm inside?
Who's gonna save you?
Alive and kicking
Stay until your love is
Alive and kicking
Stay 'til your love is
Until your love is, alive
Oh
You lift me up
To the crucial top, so I can see
Oh you lead me on, till the feelings come
And the lights that shine on
But if that don't mean nothing
Like if someday it should fall through
You'll take me home where the magic's from
And I'll be with you
What you gonna do when things go wrong?
What you gonna do when it all cracks up?
What you gonna do when the love burns down?
What you gonna do when the flames go up?
Who is gonna come and turn the tide?
What's it gonna take to make a dream survive?
Who's got the touch to calm the storm inside?
Don't say goodbye, don't say goodbye
In the final seconds who's gonna save you?

Great Music started in the 60’s, then 🚀!!! Into the stratosphere!!! 🎶♥️ 💃
The piano break at 3:20 always hits me in the feels. I think I had an alarm clock that would play something that sounded similar to it so it always makes me feel nostalgic. I wasn’t alive in the 80s, but boy do I love what came out of it.
The sound of that era. Love that Yamaha grand piano.
Same
Came here to say this and also the squealing guitar sound.
You have great taste! Thanks for adding the bookmark to the piano solo. I so loved the 80's
It's the sound of Super Tramp!! 🙂🙂❤️❤️
the bassline is epic
This was John Giblin's first album with them. He's a pro and synced with the band right away.
The background vocals are spot on and the drums are great. What an awesome song from the 80’s
Pretty much all 80's tunes are great!! 😁 for me 80's will ALWAYS be my favorite decade for music 🥰🥰
The background is my hometown :)
I agreed!
Agree! Both singers have KILLER good ad strong voices!
Robin Clark is awesome. Find a live version of this where he puts her in the foreground to belt out her vocals. Great stuff.
I cry when I hear this song because I think of my dad. I drew him a picture years ago that said, "Alive and Kicking". He passed away a couple months later.
I miss you Pop. 💖
Sorry for your loss.
I remember My Mom with this song

As i set here in the uncertainty of this Corona Virus pandemic this song instantly transforms me back to the fall of 1985 to my 20 year old self with the whole future at my feet and not a worry in the world. I don't know what the future brings but enjoy your youth as it will fly by faster than you know and never take a minute of it for granted!
Try 'the sign' human league and up

ах где вы были раньше, 30 лет назад
Я не понимаю твой вопрос.
Word. Wisdom.
