The drummer who played during the recording of this track (April 1982) was actually Kenny Hyslop... and not Mel Gaynor, who later played on the album (with Mike Ogletree, pictured on the back sleeve).
That was an astounding performance by everyone in the band. The sound was amazing, Charlie's guitar, the drumming and Jim's voice is excellent, strong as ever. Superb.🎉🎉🎉
I just finished listening to the entire album; it is a superb masterpiece! I have loved this album since I first bought the cassette tape back in 1986, and this live recording recaptures the magic of that one. Some highlights for me: Colours Fly and Catherine Wheels - Ged Grimes' bass line in this song is brilliant. Well, frankly the entire album is done so well. Charlie Burchill's guitar - Charlie still has the magic in his guitar playing. Frankly, you can see how his guitar playing has improved in the 40+ years since this album was released. It's so nice to hear the guitar more to the for than on the original recording. Jim Kerr's vocals - Jim still has the chops for singing these songs, every one of them he nails it. The entire band's playing this album live is done so well - it is so faithful to the original, but hearing this live recording makes it really come alive for me. New Gold Dream (81-82-83-84) really rocks out! It is a perfectly executed recording and the mixing and mastering is superb.
Tu es terriblement dans la réalité, je suis également très sensible à ton oreille musicale ! Simple Minds est un groupe extraordinaire. Mes enfants de 15 ans connaissent par cœur ❤ !
A powerful and emotional performance of New Gold Dream in an inspiring venue in Paisley Abbey. Was lucky enough to be at the gig in Verona last year, a dream come true after the 1989 Verona performance. Simple Minds are on fire and for me the best live band on the planet.
I saw them live in Melbourne Australia in 1984. They were playing with The eurythmics which is who I wanted to see, but my then boyfriend loved Simple Minds. I left that concert a Simple Minds freak!!!!
Legendary band. Brilliant written songs over the years. So many classics. Soundtrack to lots of people's lives..... Thank you Simple Minds for all the fantastic music....❤
I love Simple Minds, they have very beautiful songs that I have been listening to since their beginnings in 1977, plus Jim Kerr and Charlie Burchill are super nice, already seen them in concert several times
Those beautiful flowing chords from Charlie on lead, the amazing bass lines. The drumming, amazing. Keyboards, powerful and reflective. Jim`s vocals. This current line up is incredible.
What a band, I saw them at wembley stadium in 1989, street fighting years tour. My favorite album is live in the city of light 1987, wonderful versions of all the classics
Jim Kerr still magnetic and charming; Charlie Burchill, one of the most underrated guitarist, is a master in using delay on rythmic riffs: guitar seems to hug you and guide you into the song.
WOW!!! Sounds so amazing! The whole band is out of this world! Me Kerr’s voice is even better today! Off my favorite album! Love Love Love this! ❤️🎶❤️🎶❤️🎶❤️🎶
Strepitosi!!! Indescrivibile il piacere e l'emozione che ho provato nel riascoltare questa canzone...mi ha fatto rivivere dei momenti bellissimi. Grazie!!!
Had the luck, a few years ago, to see Simple Minds in Lisbon -Coliseu dos Recreios - and felt like being young again. Amaizing band from my youth, still rocking hard. The drum girl is... 😮😮 speechless...great skills...felt speechless
Amazing live performance!! I was surprised and delighted when this song came on the radio!! 😂 i know, i still listen to the radio.....when i want to connect to myself in the 80's ....and this came with an extra message from my beloved husband 😊 🎉❤
Think they lost me after New Gold Dream.. Now enjoying this performance. Remember the Werchter days with The Simple Minds, U2, The cure, Talking Heads, David Bowie... Who could even imagine the value of the music we lived in
Unfrickenbelievable! See, you have quality here that has transcended through the decades 💪👌👏👏. I'm off to see Nik Kershaw and Go West tomorrow night 9th of March 24, and they haven't lost any of their quality either ❤❤❤
Hot damn! Loving that musicians are flipping the bird to ageism and are getting on with it - doing what is in them. I crave hearing/seeing them perform "Love Song". This was wonderful thank you Simple Minds. Say, if you watched and enjoyed this, consider giving them the thumbs up to help spread the word that good music is good music regardless of the person/bands ethnicity, age, sex etc... Cheers all.
Us GenX are the only ones younger gens dont hate.... Isee many on yt digging on 80s music. They missed out on the times but can live this somewhat here.
Even more funktastic raucousness Drummer and bassist working overtime 💪. Guitar layers also just sublime. One of my all time favourite songs this one Wonderful 😎
just stumbled over this, currently digitalizing my Vinyl collection. That drummer is epic. Really like this version, though Mr Kerr maybe does a little bit too much here and there. Keep on keeping on, this is awesome, deffo going to buy the CD.
This drummer is super intense!! Has just the right emphasis on ea piece where others simply tap itout. Appreciate stuff like that. Back then if you couldnt sound good live you disappeared from teh scene quick no hiding behind autocorrect of electronics.
The way Derek Forbes wrote the bassline in this song has always been one of my favorites. He and John Taylor of Duran Duran have always played their bass like lead guitars which gave the songs that extra bite than the standard straight 8 note patterns of 80’s music.
Forbes top bassist. JT who emulated Bernard Edwards of Chic. But the ultimate bassist who played like a lead guitarist got to be Hooky of New Order. What a period in musical history. So lucky.
I never dreamed I'll be on holiday in Glasgow 10 months past view this video!! I'm here now and don't want back home 😅 Next my dream is to be on Simple Minds concert!!! ❤
Fantastic band.. I've seen them 3 times over the years... The sound on this track is amazing in the abbey.. I love the drummer ...she use to play with Bryan ferry ... I'm hoping to see them Frankfurt next year 2024
Charlie has an amazing and original style to his playing...so melodic
Classic song from a great era of music.
That drummer did an awesome job mimicking Mel Gaynor's style on this song.. thumbs up 👍 👍👍👍👍👍
Exactly

@@chewbacka8054 thanks 👍👍
Real people playing their instruments in real time. Innovative and refreshing for this era of electronic programming and AI.
Well said.❤😊🎉
This was always my favorite Simple Minds song. I always loved the synthesizers on this song when I first heard it. Jim and Charlie still got it.
That was an astounding performance by everyone in the band. The sound was amazing, Charlie's guitar, the drumming and Jim's voice is excellent, strong as ever. Superb.🎉🎉🎉
Yes, but I dearly miss those strong bass-riffs in this song.. Especially when I played the maxi single version in late seventies, in the pre-CD era..
Are you listening to the same thing I am ? Jim's voice is way off. Lazy singing, not hitting the notes or even at the right time.

Le Temps passe et c’est toujours aussi MAGIQUE… 3 notes 🎶 et c’est back to the 80’s… ✨🔥❤️🌟❤️🔥✨

Yes Charlie's sound is incredibly enchanting
Totally agree 👍
I think Burchill was/is far better than The Edge. Just my opinion. But oh how underappreciated Charlie is.
WOW!!! Sounds so amazing! The whole band is out of this world! Me Kerr’s voice is even better today! Off my favorite album! Love Love Love this! ❤️🎶❤️🎶❤️🎶❤️🎶
Mr Kerr
