Yeah man! When Mp3 players did not exist I copied this song 3 times on a casette for my walkman and I played it when I was underway to the city to party. Those were some good times! Just riding my bike listening to this song while smoking a joint and then having fun with my friends and occasionally a one night stand.

I wonder if anyone had the same experience....when this came out in 1982 I spent so long trying to tape it off radio, but as the vocals came in some quickly I always missed it. So the version I've always listened to starts halfway through 'shine on...' ;-)

As an American teenager in the 80's I was flooded on US radio by Michael Jackson, Van Halen, Def Leppard, Duran, U2, Madonna, etc etc.. All fine music. I ended up buying "Once upon a Time" because it was on sale for 3$ and because of the Alive and Kicking video, Today Im 43, and Simple Minds are my favorite band, hands down....

Shine on, shine the light on me
In all of my life so that much more I see
In the light of his love
    In the light of reflection
    What a world this world
    Sometimes oh so it seems
    Eyes to the sky
    In the silver gift friendship
    Glittering prize
Is the price of lost love
They can remember quiet side of midnight
They can remember attraction of fame
    Like a glittering prize
I saw you up on a clear day
    First taking heart
    Then our last breath away
    Always came a time
    Time was by your side
    We were spending time
    We were staring out
    Catch me in a dream
    Captured all in heart
    We were spending time
    We were staring out
    Could there ever be
    Ever more than one
    Called an act of love
    Can you never stop?
Shine on, shine the light on me
In all of my life so that much more I see
    Like a glittering prize
I saw you up on a clear day
    First taking hearts
    Then our last breath away
    Only on a clear day
    Coming in on our lives
    Only on a clear day
    Coming in on our life
We can remember quiet side of midnight
We can remember attraction of fame
    Like a glittering prize
I saw you up on a clear day
    First taking heart
    Then our last breath away
    See it in the eyes
    Satellite sky
    We were spending time
    We were staring out
    Take in, take in more
    Endless breath away
    We were staring out
    Now we're staring in
    Could there ever be
    Ever more than one
    Called an act of love
    Can you never stop?
Shine on, shine the lights on me
In all of my life, so that much more I see
    Like a glittering prize
I saw you up on a clear day
    First taking hearts
    Then our last breath away
    Only on a clear day

    Like a glittering prize

Almost 51, and yes this was the golden age of music. Can´t get out of it, or won´t. There´s houndreds and houndreds of awesome songs from that time, and I keep on listen to them. No matter which type it is. Pop, rock, electronica or danish. It´s just impossible to decide what is best. Well some are better than other, but hey it ´s the 80s and you just have to respect how music was made back then. And I will forever remember it until I die. The only thing that scares me, is that the great artists from our youth now are disappering one by one. A little peace inside me break off, everytime one of them leaves us. Too bad but difficult to escape from. Hugs to all that might see things the same way.. -K from CPH/DK
