Saw Simple Minds in 1986, Milton Keynes. A bunch of friends had tickets but stayed home to see World Cup(England - Argentina). I know who had the best day!!
So did I, remember it well, thinking the Milton Keynes bowl was going to be a stadium but it was a bowl cut out of the grass. Great day with Lloyd Cole and the waterboys😃
Got New Gold Dream when it was brand new. So many nights having sweet dreams to this most mystical, enlightening and deep LP. Got to see them at a tiny club in the late 80s, it was spectacular.

Life moves so fast! Where has it gone? This song makes me cry, remembering a time that was once sublime, crashing beats and fantasy. I am 47 I can't leave this era, it is impossible, where would we be without Mick Mcneal's Keyboards and Charlie's chiming Guitars, Derek's hammering Bass and Mel's monster beats, and Jim's haunting vox and summer encrusted lyrics. God bless!
hi dave - same feeling, am 47 - missing the flowing synths, pumping bassline, catchy drumming and most of all the atmosphere of great new wave like Simple Minds......still listening to that music (omd, gary numan, depeche mode, new order, heaven 17, ...) nowadays finding it back (a little..) in the music of editors, white lies, the killers, the XX, the horrors.....)
I'm 40 and it reminds me of being a daydreamy 9 year old, travelling by train to St Ives, Cornwall. The guitar is ethereal. I like the stained glass window in this video, it is a sublime track x
For me this is one of the all time great songs. This is the Minds golden period from 80 to 84 when they produced stuff that was just on another level. McNeil is a genius and was a great loss when he left. This song has it all, poise, beauty, power, and Jim Kerr when he could sing properly - perfection.
Too right! I treasure my memories as I saw them for Sparkle in the Rain. Next tour, Once Upon a Time, they were done. 2 Great Albums and then vanish...And by that I mean New Gold Dream & Sparkle in the Rain. I bought and listened to the earlier efforts and can conclude, they were still finding their way.
This album contains a frankly obscene number of incredible songs: The dramatically brilliant Someone, Somewhere with perhaps the greatest couple of lines ever written... the relentless Glittering Prize .... the astonishing and grown up Big Sleep .... each one of them could make a case for the best song ever .... and then this ....number one .... always. Remarkable, so far ahead of its times it is scary ....Bieber, Lipa and the rest of you, have a listen. Then retire. Please.
New Gold Dream i rank as one of the top 10 greatest . For sure THE greatest in the 80´s. Nothing else produced in the 80´s comes near it. It is the epitome of the 80´s inlfuence from the 70´s merging into a funky symphonic freedom we never heard before :-) Or after

The Roaring 80's. What a time it was. Sometimes i wish i could turn back time and let it stand still. The music and absolutely everything was so much better than now. I'am a 65 year old Grey man, but i never have forget to dance on a masterclass masterpieces like this.

This song kills me every time ............ I cannot explain the sensation inside, but with human words of 2019 it makes me feel alive and full of love, especially for my kids, my family, my parents. The song rips me wide open, the sound and the whole musical arrangement makes me joyful and sad at the very same time............. powerful, oh so powerful
This album (NGD) is rightly regarded as a classic. No filler tracks, a coherent piece of art. The album form is dead now, nothing to compare to this is now produced.
I agree with you, but everything they did was So Great. The reason I know that it was ahead of their time is since 2007 I've been streamlining Simple Minds Videos and I can't get enough. Have you listened to their Song This Fear of God? It's way way WAY Ahead of their time! I remember dancing to you promised me a miracle with a woman who was a beautician. We had fun back in those days! I love dancing to Simple Minds Music and I love Singing with Jim too! Lol!
Best band ever, they deserve more credit for the range of music they have produced. Life moves so very fast but I'm lucky to have lived when Simple Minds were there.
The most perfect song ever made. It never fails to move me. I love the dreaminess of the album version, but also the raw power of the live version recorded in Newcastle during the NGD tour of 82. I play bass, and I love playing this. Derek Forbes is a genius in my eyes. If only SM would tour NGD in 2022 with the original line up from the album to celebrate the 40th anniversary
i first seen the simpleminds in 1977 and got to know all the boys pretty well. Actually live pretty neat a couple of them to this day, Cant see them ever regrouping but you know the old saying MONEY TALKS
@@johnjohnstone8612 Ah so eperhaps their gracious leader wasn;t paying them too well? or the songriting/publishing deal screwed the former members over?
Totally agree. Come on Jim.. bring back the boys; book Wembley.. let's do it all again.. Get up there and sparkle in the rain, the sun, for all time.. just once! Simple Minds - one more time.
Thanks for adding me......when I first listened to SM I was 22 years old battling the worst suicidal depression from a life of abuse. I had become extremely religious and was attracted to the cover of New Gold Dream. The songs were mystical, transcendent and I projected my own life into the music.......Sparkle in the Rain raised my consciousness...it gave me chills....out-of-body-experiences........I survived.... I earned three degrees and have worked in hospitals, taught public school 20 years...I think I am a pretty happy person today...6 years ago I found Graffiti Soul.......wow......a few months ago I came across Walk Between Worlds.....again its a life changing experience....Last Monday saw them for the first time!
loved your comment and well done simple minds are the best band ever they can adapt their music so well the new gold dream album is so different to sparkle in the rain but both brilliant once upon a time is my favourite though closely followed by street fighting years which is very political but superb jim kerr and Charlie burchill are proper music legends
New Gold Dream is such an amazing record and means so much to me. I bought it in 1982 and still have the same copy. I was 13/14 and went out the next week and bought Sons and Fascination..Still have that copy too.
Proud to say I have been the proud owner of a pristine Gold Vinyl copy of this LP for many decades. Also picked up Midge Ure's 2019 "Orchestrated", he and Jim Kerr are pals, and Ure's voice on it is even stronger, more beautiful than it was when he sang "Reap The Wild Wind".
I am nearly 55 and this track is one of my all time favorites. The 80's was just amazing I reminisce everyday and play this track every morning before work. It puts me in a great place before a stressful day at work. Thank you to all the members of Simple Minds who have gave me the best memories and dance moves ever! Lots of love Jim and the crew. My sister visited Jim's beautiful Hotel just recently in Italy called Villa Angel. I must admit I was so jealous when I saw the Picture's. But I was very fortunate to see Simple Minds at Ibrox Park in June 7th 1986. Best day out ever.❤
56 and this song still send ripple's of something thrashing around my body.. Man I knew it was good all those years ago when it hammered through the door speaker's on my Ford Capri full BLAST
Music evolves and changes through time and only after years have passed by you understand the meaning and memories of certain songs and you are back where you first heard them 40 years have passed by in a blink
Truly great track - grew up with it. Reading all the comments on here is quite special. Glad the music is appreciated. One of the best ever albums created for sure
My alltime favourite band. I listened to Sons and Fascination on my walkman in Italy and Egypt in the early '80s and "never looked back" Still a fan in 2024 ❤❤❤
Yes that's the key the maturity of the song writing and composition for such a young band was incredible. Musicianship off the scale. The keyboards in this bring tears of joy to my eyes. Wish I had kept up piano lessons.
For me the album New Gold Dream is a timeless jewel i cherish by listening to it and singing to it :-) at least once a week 😎 its like going to a place where everything is just fine so distant from reality 🧘♂️🌹❤️
I'm going to be 60 this winter. I went to Los Angeles as a make-up artist for Yves Saint Laurent, and worked for them for quite a while. I was with the crew that launched the Fragrance "Paris", at the Bel-Air Hotel in Los Angeles. It was great, we had so much fun in those days, when we were all beautiful and sparkly.
I’m 39 and I love this song so much. My husband who is 47 got me into this song. Good taste in music I say. Sends shivers down my spine. Such a great song and I’m guessing era...
I bought the album this belongs to in 1982....I was 13/14.....I played it to death then and still do.. Sons and Fascination too...I long for the days when I went to HMV to buy an album with pocket money. I’d devour the artwork, lyrics and smell....Although this album didn’t have lyrics. For me, 1980-82 was an amazing time for records...Japan, Bowie, Gary Numan, Killing Joke, Banshees, Cure etc..
I'm 55 why did I just hear this, and on the radio in Spain, what a absaloute beauty 😍 , will listen to it for the rest of my life trying to make up for lost time lol 😆

If you like music like atmosphere please listen "The Chameleons" band
This album (NGD) is rightly regarded as a classic. No filler tracks, a coherent piece of art. The album form is dead now, nothing to compare to this is now produced.
So, so Right...

i am stunned everytime i listen to this song, timeless piece of real art. damn, this is almost too good!
New Gold Dream was their pinnacle album.
Agreed. A massive statement by them that album was. Fantastic stuff.
And they were so young...amazing when you consider this

Right on
I agree with you, but everything they did was So Great. Lol!
I have just turned 59 and next summer I will be 60 and this music is eternal.
Pure beauty. Wonderful song, by undoubtedly one of the best bands of all times.
Et bientôt à Ostende Belgique
Estas equivocado simple minds tiene mejores canciones
David Mauldin hooyah, inspirational bio, God bless you...
real good stuff dude -good on 'ya
Keep losyening to the old SM and u want to life forever
The same can be said about The Big Sleep....like transit from Earth through space and time to the afterlife...
loved your comment and well done simple minds are the best band ever they can adapt
their music so well the new gold dream album is so different to sparkle in the rain but
both brilliant once upon a time is my favourite though closely followed by street fighting
years which is very political but superb jim kerr and Charlie burchill are proper music legends
Any band over the past 50 years could only dream of making this piece of extraordinary music. NGD Best album of all time . .Nothing comes close.
New Gold Dream is such an amazing record and means so much to me.
I bought it in 1982 and still have the same copy. I was 13/14 and went out the next week and bought Sons and Fascination..Still have that copy too.
I still have my NGD copy too in near perfect condtion and then Sparkle In The Rain same :)
Chanson magique.
👍👍👍👍👍💯💯💯💯
Proud to say I have been the proud owner of a pristine Gold Vinyl copy of this LP for many decades. Also picked up Midge Ure's 2019 "Orchestrated", he and Jim Kerr are pals, and Ure's voice on it is even stronger, more beautiful than it was when he sang "Reap The Wild Wind".
This song is sublime. One of SM's finest.

Best day out ever.❤
the keyboard is out of this world!
Herbi hancock
56 and this song still send ripple's of something thrashing around my body.. Man I knew it was good all those years ago when it hammered through the door speaker's on my Ford Capri full BLAST

Music evolves and changes through time and only after years have passed by you understand the meaning and memories of certain songs and you are back where you first heard them 40 years have passed by in a blink
🥺💥🤍
Damn...
A masterpiece, moves from the sound to the soul, wonderfully synchronized sounds that trap forever.. 2022
Truly great track - grew up with it. Reading all the comments on here is quite special. Glad the music is appreciated. One of the best ever albums created for sure
And when you dream dream in the dream with me toryglens finest
This album was way ahead of it's time.
another song that makes New Gold Dream one of the best New Wave albums and one of the greatest bands of the 80s.
From the best album EVER!
One of my favorite albums ever. I don't have a favorite. Top ten
Sparkle In The Rain
Yngve Ekaas agreed
@@gixxerboy555 Sparkle in the rain was a great album but prefer the atmospheric sound of New Gold Dream.
De acuerdo
I am 55 and this song still sound brilliant and what can I say about the band simply the best bravo
Soothing, mystical and magical - my favourite Simple Minds track
A thing of immense beauty and wonder. The best thing they ever did.

My alltime favourite band. I listened to Sons and Fascination on my walkman in Italy and Egypt in the early '80s and "never looked back"
Still a fan in 2024 ❤❤❤
A great SM golden tune with great bass and keyboards thanks to Derek and Michael, forever bassist and keyboardist of the band !!
Simply amazing........back to the south of France for me.......!!
Some of the early Minds tunes are exceptional given how young the band members were. This one has always stood out.
They were only 23 or thereabouts...only 5 years after forming with no real formal music training...
Absolute gold by Simple Minds!
i'm 51,life moves so fast ,but only with you !! my fav song of all time, quality music,i am a simple mind !!
I'm 59 and knew these guys back in Los Angeles in the 80's. I'm Scots and knew them through Scots friends and family.
I'm going to be 60 this winter. I went to Los Angeles as a make-up artist for Yves Saint Laurent, and worked for them for quite a while. I was with the crew that launched the Fragrance "Paris", at the Bel-Air Hotel in Los Angeles. It was great, we had so much fun in those days, when we were all beautiful and sparkly.
please let me in your minds,im a believer, too
A highly underrated band. One of my favorites from the 1980s.
Jeez what a track, what an album what a band !! The soundtrack of my youth 👌
Still in love with this song!!!! 49 years and still dancing!!
Such a great song from a great album great memories.
New Gold Dream and Sparkle in the Rain we're my two go to Albums, always
One of my favorite songs of all time. Magical.
Bellissimo.
56 now and still recall the album being released. This is the bst song from the album, still moves me
One of the best tracks from Simple Minds absolutely gorgeous.
I was right there with you brother and still am.
that was the best music ever made...
may i add ultravox too ? hehe
Amen to this msg mate, absolutely correct. Ive been there and done what u did, studied the album, even the credits . Obsessed I was.
I'm 55 why did I just hear this, and on the radio in Spain, what a absaloute beauty 😍 , will listen to it for the rest of my life trying to make up for lost time lol 😆
The whole album is magical ,brings back good memories miss them x
"Hunter And The Hunted"
Shooting from the hip
About our faith and love
I see it in your faces thin as shadow
See me as I figure in your late night plan
See me as I'm cocooned up in Badland
The side effects of cruising at the speed of life
The side effects of living in temptation
When only one star is waiting up on all of us
You'll see me as I'm cocooned up in Badlands
And how do I feel living in the eighties
And do I get to see the light of day
Kyoto in the snow but Heaven's far away
Sending their love - passion parade
Hunter and the Hunted
With me first times can never lie
They were young - they were brave - they were the honest set
The greatest show on earth is here tonight love
See me as a figure in the late night plan
See me as I'm cocooned up in Badlands
The side effects of cruising at the speed of life
The side effects of living in temptation
When only one star is waiting up on all of us
You'll see me as I'm cocooned up in Badlands
And how do I feel living in the eighties
And do I get to see the light of day
Kyoto in the snow
Heaven's far away
Sending their love
Passion parade
Hunter and the Hunted
With me first times can never lie
Only with you
Life moves so fast
When your hear me screaming
I'll be seeing through the eyes of love
Tell me can you hear me
Tell me can you see me
An absolute Gem of a song - lyrics and video clip take me to another space and time - each and every ❤ time.
Most beautiful song of Simple Minds!
... gorgeous track; one of the prettiest songs from this era.
Derek Forbes is such a brilliant bass player.
Forbes was voted 'Best Bass Player in the World' in 1982 and 'Best International Bass Player' in a music poll in Australia, the same year. Forbes was also voted the "UK's Best Bassist". In 2009, Forbes was voted "Scotland's Best Bassist" by Dear Scotland readers, [1] and his life and work are the subject of a print and film biography of writer and director Ethan Dettenmaier
One of the best and probably one of the most under rated in the wider music world
I’m in love. I remember these guys. Always!
Oh man,this keyboardsolo,one of the greatest ever...unforgetable
herbie hancock, guest keyboard player on this track, true fact
Favourite song on the album, every time I drive up to the highlands and pass by Glasgow I always have Simple Minds on the stereo to greet me
Best track of the ENTIRE 1980s.
Brings back so phantastic memories….right from the first notes ❤
Absolutely !!! I feel the same way….. 🥹
