  • HomeLikeShaving (homelikeshavin...) is a Russian based razor maker. The company specializes in stainless steel razors with a focus on quality and affordability. The company takes pride in the pricepoint they can offer high quality razors for. You can purchase HomeLikeShaving hardware, directly from their website.
    HomeLikeShaving razors are made from stainless steel AISI 316, which presumably are CNC milled. The offering comes in a polished finish and features exceptionally tight tolerances. Blade loading and securing are easy and the user is left without fear of blade chatter or misalignment. The Start is available in several baseplate options. This one happens to be the 1.18mm gap. The handle is a length of 82 mm and the weight of the razor is 105 grams.
    The Start 1.18 delivers a medium aggression shave with a good, but not great level of efficiency. The blade feel is perfect. Enough to keep me honest but not enough for me to shave scared. Angle is easy to find and maintain. Balance is fine. I can shave my dome with the patented Ruds one pass ATG. Despite the large blade GAP, “on paper”, the geometry and blade feel make this a candidate as a daily driver for most wet shavers.
    Color me impressed by the overall design and performance of the HomeLikeShaving Safe Start. Considering it’s affordable entry point, this is a razor I would recommend to those looking to upgrade their razor.

    Looks a well-designed razor, especially if the manufacturer has managed to make the center pin a bit longer. I am sorry if in your video I am missing seeing the razor dismantled - as when loading the blade but, at least in the batch others have reviewed in November last year, the center pin seemed too short: the handle seats onto the base plate after about only two and half full turns. During shaving, loosening the head to allow better rinsing risks the handle and head readily coming apart.
    Had the pin been longer to allow, say, five full turns to seating, it would have been a perfect razor.
    But this is my personal observation, based only on sight, and I defer to your own and other viewers’ verdict. Thank you for a nice demonstration.

    • @dendj55
      @dendj55  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for your observations. I am not sure if the center pin is now longer, but for me it presented no issues.

    Have you found any information on the blade exposure on this razor (as well as the narrow gap version)? I would guess it's minimal but haven't run into any data, including from Homelike.

      I mean the number of mm by which the blade edge extends beyond the plane defined by the cap and blade guard. As illustrated here:

    My brain was expecting some comparison to the Karve for some reason, perhaps because of the price point. How would you say that it compares to the SS Karve in terms of the performance? Is one razor smoother than the other on a comparable plate?

    • @dendj55
      @dendj55  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The razors geometry is very different. I don't believe they warrant direct comparison. It would be too apples to oranges.

      Hey, thanks for the recommendation. I have not checked it out yet, but it is on my list.

    • @billthebutcher3832
      @billthebutcher3832 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Oleg Bauer i think you've found the term "clone" offensive because it's a product made in Russia.
      To be honest is not a clone of Gibs/ Micrometric/ Ambassador it just
      falls in to the trend of stainless steel adjustable de razors , that Razor emporium launched back in 2016-2017.
      So you're missing the point here.
      It's been a year since I've made that comment , and in the meantime I've tried the Taiga , the Start and the Colibri.
      All of them are great smooth shavers for sure.
      I've found the Taiga smoother than the ambassador.
      Ambassador' blade feel can be overwhelming for many shavers.
      I found no comfort with it for my headshaves due it's excessive blade feel.
      But I'm enjoying for sure the deep bbs facial shaves that it provides though.
      I also disliked the Colibri head design due the blade exposure on the sides. It's a drawback for me since it's predecessor ( Start) had a bigger base plate surface , covering the whole blade on the sides.
      I can't find any reason to do such a change on a newer design.
      The Start was a great Razor.
      Btw i found the Taiga a smoother shaver than the Ambassador with a better finish.
