- Talbot Shaving ( / talbotshaving ) is releasing their summer seasonal scent today, at both West Coast Shaving (www.westcoasts...) and Top of the Chain (topofthechain..... Okuma was created in collaboration with Ross M ( / omcnastyo , a good friend of Chad’s and a wet shaving influencer on TH-cam. Okuma features Talbot Shaving’s updated soap base, v3, and will be accompanied by Maol Grooming’s new aftershave formula, v2, in the matching scent. In lieu of the normal donation to the Trust for Public Land (www.tpl.org/), Chad and Ross agreed to pivot for this release. The charity of choice for this scent is the Wounded Warrior Project (WWP). This is a nonprofit charity and veterans service organization that offers a variety of programs, services and events to support wounded veterans of military action, following the tragedy of September 11, 2001. Okuma was inspired by Ross M’s pre-teen years on the Pacific Ocean island. The fragrance features notes of: Yuzu, Passion Fruit, Lemon, Ocean, Cypress and Forest Floor. The resulting blend offers a tart citrus top, a middle of passion fruit and ocean feel and a base of earth. This is a near perfect summer wear. Mrs. Ruds loves this scent for all occasions. She even approves of it for date night now that the weather is warm. Strength of scent is mid off the puck and remains mide once lathered. Try That Soap (trythatsoap.com/) recommends Barrister and Mann - Citricuyá as a similar scent profile.
Talbot Shaving v3 soap base is fifteen (15) months in the making. I have been fortunate to test each of the iterations. Talbot Shaving is constantly looking to improve and with this effort Chad specifically addressed areas where he felt improvements could be made. Ingredients for Talbot Shaving v3 can be found here: Talbot Shaving. The new soap base is firm. The load and lather process is mindlessly easy. When dialed in, the resulting lather will resemble the consistency of sour cream. The primary and residual slickness is like a 101 mph fastball. The razor glides so effortlessly in the presence of visible lather and without. The post shave of v3 is dramatically improved and is on a level playing field with all of the current kings of post shave. The post shave leaves a silky soft moisturizing feeling on the skin for hours after the shave has been completed. To say that I am impressed with Talbot Shaving v3 would be a disservice to the performance. This base is immediately among the soap base kings. Talbot Shaving v3 receives a ShaveScore of 101. For a similar lather and performance experience, I suggest Ariana & Evans Kaizen.

Just got mine on your recommendation and the shave more than lives up to the promise. Superb. I asked my wife to place the fragrance, and she guessed cucumber. If you de-focus on it a bit, you get that. Cucumber is a cool, tangy fragrance that's rarely available in soaps, so that makes this novel, even if it is a bit of an illusion. It's a truly masterful blend exactly because it's thoroughly enjoyable, and yet a bit mysterious. Thanks for your excellent review.

Great reviews manny thanks! I’m a bit on a soap journey myself at the moment over the last 3 months I’ve tried over 75 scents from 32 different brands. Your reviews are helping a lot as well. Haven’t seen any Fitjar soaps around in your videos I would recommend trying the Norwegian artisan soaps!

Have you considered doing a review on the new Beta 4.3 formulation soaps for Saponificio Varesino? I think performance is similar to PAA and it would be a great comparison between two vegetable soaps.

Hi Ruds hope your keeping well, just wondering when you shave do you go for a BBS shave as it seems like you only do 1pass ?
Good day. I shave 2 passes on the face and 1 on the dome. Typically that allows me BBS or darn close.
I went w the Island in the Sun, but I might pick the aftershave for this scent. I really enjoy Maol Grooming aftershave

Hi Ruds. As always enjoying your videos. Im usually in agreement on your evaluations and scent descriptions. Also enjoy your systematic step by step approach. But as far as Okuma, the scent I am experience is not pleasant at all. Maybe I have a bad batch because it has a bad polluted ocean smell. Some of my friends (4) even said that it had a sewer smell! In any event I am leaving the cover off for a few weeks to see if it improves. Maybe I got a bad one!

I realized that despite the fact that you used to love their product, you have not reviewed any in 2 years. Why is that so? Have their product went down the hill? Thanks for your support. The only reason that I’ve not revisited Chiseled Face in some time is the scents. Unfortunately, they are not smells Mrs. Ruds approves of. I can tell you the recently released base upgrade by Chiseled Face is amazing. I had the opportunity to privately test some of the iterations and it is among the most luxurious lathers around.
