Golfsmith Tour Cavity irons, had those in the late ninties, although they were a used set. One of many sets I went through, lol!
At that time Golfsmith also had a forged muscleback iron, as seen on the PGA tour used by Scott Verplank complete with those heavy UST tour weight graphite shafts. Great store!
I think you have a good approach to your clubs here. I have been upgrading/replacing/banning my clubs the
AST year or so concentrating on areas of need. I have the same putter as you so that has stayed with me. I had a lot of issues of the tee so what I ended up doing was just going with my Cobra 3 wood and not even carrying a driver for most of last summer. Great decision. I lost distance but gained control. I then worked on getting a club that worked as a fairway finder. After some trial and error, I settled on a MacGregor 3 iron which basically is like a hybrid. I also carried a hybrid for a little flexibility. Basically know your game and your challenges and address those first.
Mr. Vintage- I miss the Golfsmith company! They had a lot of good stuff. My first "matched set" of clubs was about a half dozen sticks which my Dad got as premiums (one by one) from a grocery store. I think a 3 wood, putter, and a few blade irons. Not deluxe quality by any means, but I think I played about as well with them back in my early teen years as I have done at my best with clubs since then.
Yes, I miss Golfsmith too! It is awesome your dad supported you in golf.
