    My little project car has been stuck in the garage for about 8 months now and has never been started in all that time. I've been wondering about the best way to start it without damaging the engine, and this video came just at the right time. Thanks for the top tip guys 👍
    In case you're wondering its a 2007 mk2 ford focus st225 with a 2.5 i5 turbo 😁

    In the early 70's a good friend built a 454 ci FORD engine for his '58 Ford Custom 300 2 door. All parts were brand new. We dropped the engine in using an old swing set & chain/pulley. After everything was bolted up,he took an(sorry I can't remember what it was called). He inserted it into the oil pump, used an electric drill to bring the oil pressure up to 60#'s,according to the gauge. Installed the distributor & it fired up the first hit of the key! This guy was an excellent mechanic! The car was a street/ strip. It ran high 11's with a beefed up C6 & 4.57 gears.

      Distributor. That was back before coil packs. You'd stick a drill attachment down there and pump it that way. With the 2v 3v and 4v modulars you use an auxiliary pump and pump it into the oil filter location for the Coyote and oil pressure sending unit for the 3v and 2v 5.4/4.6 etc.

      yep even on my 1990 mustang gt a friend thought he would surprise me with new valve covers and months later oil pump seized which would twist and snap the distributor/oil pump shaft. Pull the motor and find a tiny tab of metal jammed in the oil pump which as soon as i seen it i knew it was one of the tiny metal stopper tabs in the valve cover gasket. Very expensive mistake for valve covers i never liked. because since i had to pull the motor of course i was going to upgrade everything in the process including replacing my fresh cluch with a more expensive centerforce clutch and every seal. But yes to prime it we just would put a drill on that shaft of the distributor and prime it up. shaft was basically the same shape and size of the hex of a screwdriver bit.

    I wished I would've known about this while building my 5.4 2v. I took a weed sprayer and cut the sprayer off then zip tied a 3/8 hose by 1/4 thread npt fitting to thread into the oil pressure sensor location and pumped her up with the valve covers off until I heard it stop "farting". If you don't do this and just rely on the starter you'll get a shit ton of valvetrain chatter, and possibly your bottom end bearings score and all that for nothing. Just do it this way. It's actually really easy once you get everything assembled and know the spot to prime. You can also check for leaks this way.

    1/4" NPT is an air compressor fitting. You dont need AN fittings to do this either 🤦🏽‍♂️ using a 3/8 fuel line, pump sprayer, metal band clamps, and an air compressor fitting works just fine. Youll get oil through the entire motor. Ill have a video up about this in the next week or so.

  • @JeffScrambler

    Why not turn key on and put pedal to the floor and turn it over for 10 seconds to build up pressure?

    • @MustangLifestyleTV
      @MustangLifestyleTV  ปีที่แล้ว

      Because the starter doesn’t turn it fast enough to build any pressure that will prime it enough. This does more than that ever will and we didn’t even have to rotate the engine

    thats the point of assembly lube lol which you will have to flush soon anyway

    • @MustangLifestyleTV
      @MustangLifestyleTV  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Assembly lube for bearings absolutely which we used and another reason why we said a short term interval for the first change. But assembly lube is not getting all the way into lash adjuster and timing chain tensioners. The tensioners build tension from oil pressure.

    • @RatstangGarage
      @RatstangGarage ปีที่แล้ว

      @@MustangLifestyleTV yes that's fair! good technique you should also be priming your lash adjusters before you put them in but yes oil does drain out over time

  • @KINGKJ2REAL

    With s550 stick mustangs all you have to do is put the clutch peddle and gas peddle to the floor and hold the start button
    The car won’t start it will just crank and build oil pressure
    Not sure if autos can do it

    • @MustangLifestyleTV
      @MustangLifestyleTV  ปีที่แล้ว

      Almost every car is like that. The starter does not prime it enough. Why take a chance on a freshly built engine?

    • @KINGKJ2REAL
      @KINGKJ2REAL ปีที่แล้ว

      @@MustangLifestyleTV who says it does not prime it enough ? Crank it long enough it gets 80-90 psi of oil pressure. A few cycles will be more then enough oil to start a new engine.
      The engine will be fine regardless of building oil pressure or not.
