I just recently found your channel so I’m catching up on previous videos. I have to say, finding a book on my TBR at a thrift store is one of my greatest thrills. Branden, I’m putting that Stephen King trilogy on my “to find” thrift store list. I am also a huge fan of King’s writing. I devoured his books when I was younger, but I haven’t read much of his stuff in the past decade or so. You have inspired me to put him back on my TBR.

Loved seeing your thrift haul! I also have a Little Free Library in St George, Utah (nicknamed The Bookmark) and love to thrift for books to fill it with. I have Lonesome Dove, Snow Falling on Cedars, Mr. Mercedes trilogy, and The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue on my TBR as well (and I'm pretty sure they are all second head books). I love the peruse the used books at Deseret Industries but my favorite thrifting source is the local libraries. Ours run on a county level and I check out at least 4 of them frequently. They sell hardbacks/audiobooks for $1 and all paperback/YA/children's books for 25 cents and you don't even need a library card to buy the books in their for sale section. You can't beat it!

    • @GoodBooksLately

Yes that's great. Our local libraries have a similar thing and we have found some wonderful books there.

Great haul! I loved the Mr. Mercedes trilogy; I’m not a horror reader, but I’ve really enjoyed King’s “other” books. I recently read Wolf Hall and enjoyed it. Helpful tip: when you read, “he said”, unless it’s blatantly obvious it’s somebody else, she’s referring to Cromwell. Mantel’s writing style takes a bit of getting used to. I also have the other 2 yet to read. I know a lot of readers love Hoover, I’m not a fan. Lonesome Dove is fantastic!

Love that you have a Free Library. I have a funny relationship with books. I love to read both print and audiobooks but I don’t keep books. I feel that once I have read it, I need to pass it on and give it to someone else who will enjoy it. I often write my name and the date in the book and think about all the people who could put their names in the book if it keeps getting passed on. I love to find a flea market, used book store or library sale. I challenge myself to pick out 5 books that I have already read and love to add to my neighborhood Free Little Library.

Hi Guys, This was great. I'm always on the lookout for book rec's. Loved Addie Larue!! Branden, that Mr Mercedes / Bill Hodges trilogy is great. Love the Holly character. She is also in the "Outsider" and "If it Bleeds" which I recommend you read before the "Holly" book. Also since you mentioned you are a Red Sox fan, have you read "the girl who loved Tom Gordon" also by Stephen King? It's so good. Also the Thursday Murder club is very good. I've read all of them and just heard they are making it into a movie or series.

    • @GoodBooksLately
      @GoodBooksLately  หลายเดือนก่อน

Awesome! Thanks for the scoop on S. King. I have realized I am always gravitating towards his books now. Also, I plan on reading the other Thursday Murder Club books, and can believe it is being made into a show. I was envisioning different British actors I know as the characters.

I am really relating to this right now as I just got back from our Friends of the Library Book Sale and hot 10 books for $15. Snow Falling on Cedars was an excellent book. Also so glad to hear Brandon is using StoryGraph!!! ♥️ So much more in depth than Goodreads, and doesn't feel like selling your soul. I've also been trying to build out my home library the last few years, but with just bangers. So I read them from my local library, and then buy beautiful editions of the ones I really loved. The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue is one of my favourite books of all time; you're in for such a treat, Tayler! V E Schwab has some fantastic series that I think would be right up your street - The Shades of Magic trilogy (set in 4 different versions of London), and also Vicious/Vengeful (2-part dark academia series). If Brandon is into Stephen King, please check out his Dark Tower series; absolutely phenomenal! Also, My Cousin Rachel has been made into a fantastic film with Rachel Weisz, so that's definitely worth checking out. X

I read Verity, really did not like it. Started off great and then went steadily down hill in my opinion. Snow Falling on Cedars loved it. Think I saw the movie too, but it was a while ago. I read Lonesome Dove years ago but I loved it. I think Leonardo DiCaprio was in the mini-series (I may have just dated myself using that term... I believe we would call it a Limited Series these days). Wolf Hall is on my TBR list. My fave Stephen King book is On Writing. I've read that about 10 times over, yet I haven't read any of his fiction books. I should remedy that.

I just finished the Invisible Life of Addie LaRue and enjoyed it. The first half is a little slow but the second half makes everything clear and is heartbreaking and that’s not something I say often about books.
I read the first two of the Wolf Hall series. These I also found slow reads but still very good books.

If you like Stephen King you must try the Dark Tower series, I think it’s his best. I’m going to also recommend NOS4A2 by Joe Hill. Joe is Stephen’s son and wrote NOS4A2 around the same time that Mr. Mercedes was written. Both books are about creepy old guys with big cars and there is some cross over between father and son’s novels.

In my early 20's I went on a spree of reading books that had also been made into movies. (Reading the books first, of course!) Snow Falling On Cedars was one during that period. Loved the book - thought the movie was a complete waste of money to make! I wonder now if I were to revisit both (20 years later) if my opinion would change, especially in regard to the movie. That is the wonderful thing about the arts. Our own life experiences can shape and change our views and opinions about what we take in through other mediums.

The long walk by Richard Bachman aka Stephen King is the absolute best King novel… and fairly short you could finish it in a couple sittings.. hard to put down

Love your TBR is growing and growing! Just want to throw a question out to the two of you, and everyone else here … have you ever picked up a book and it felt so nice fanning through the pages you just had to buy it? Or is that just me? 😂 Oddly enough have found some amazing books I probably would never have read otherwise 😁📖📚💖

100% yes. In fact, this was me a couple weeks ago with the book The Square of Sevens. Holy moly, that book is beautiful. And the pages are so smooth and heavy. 😊

If you enjoy the gothic genre I would recommend Barbara Michael and Victoria Holt.
I am a huge fan of British mysteries and love the between the World Wats era. Dorothy Sayers, Agatha Christie and so many others.

So fun to see your book haul. They closed the GoodWill close to me, but now I am itching to find a GW and search for books. I read The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue and I really liked it. It was very different from what I expected it to be and had a moment of letting go of what I hoped it was and really found it thought provoking. Can’t wait to see what your take on it is. I read Verity and it kept me entertained and it was a quick read.

So many things running through my brain. I didn't really care for Verity. I did like This Starts With Us and This Ends with Us by Colleen Hoover. I want to read the Addie Larue book. I read Snow Falling on Cedars years ago and liked it. I got a copy of Lonesome Dove a few months ago -- thanks to Book are sick!! So coll to see you do a shout out! If you haven't seen the mini series I highly recommend it. Not a Stephen King reader but I might be dipping my toes in soon. None of his thrillers though. Currently reading James by Percival Everett and will eventually read The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn. Looking forward to seeing your little free library!
