      Vader had more respect for clones because he fought with them in the clone wars and they were the ones who fought on the front line every day. They were also very loyal to the Empire. Officers, on the other hand, were cocky insignificant cowards who hid up in their destroyers. Vader had little to no tolerence for officers.

      I'm reading the Tarkin book right now where that scene is from. I wouldn't say that Vader asked him to retire. He says something like: "Perhaps you're aging too quickly to serve." And Sergeant Crest apologizes and tells Vader that he wouldn't drop the chamber again.

      Brian Boardwell I like the part where Vader says “you have failed me for the last time, sergeant,” and crest is just like “I understand that sir...” then Vader just lets him go about doing what clones do.

      Doesn't justy the fact that they stopped producing clones in general. As you have also seen, stormtroopers are batshit useless and an avarage human being with no training at all could easily hit more shots than the average stormtrooper. They could also spread the cloning techology to other places in the universe to make the production quicker.

      Poorly trained? They almost killed all the Jedi in episode 2! Wut? Also in the anime Star Wars clone wars! There were many times without jedis aid them the clones would had died by now. And there been a few times where a b1 battle droid commander or commandos to have good aim

    This is kinda of sad actually, the clones were actually far more better than the stormtroopers. But it was kind of enough to see that Vader Actually showed sympathy towards them, even when there getting up there. To see him not being mad at even like important cargo, its actually rare to see.

      Its notmal that the clones would be times better than standart recruits, the clones were bread for war,their trainings adaptation,loyalty were simply miles above what the majority of Stormtroopers had.

      Vader fought with these soldiers as veterans of the Clone Wars. Many of the Legends materials that involve the transition of the Empire, Vader was widely respected by the 501st and vise versa. He basically values the clones more because they were battle hardened soldiers of the old republic.
      Kind of like the Old Guard Grenadiers of Napoleon’s Empire.

    I think that the empire should have at least continued to clone new jango fett clones in smaller numbers for elite units where their skill was most needed.

      Ibrahim Mekonnen one of the reasons for them to stop the clonings was bacause they had almost nothing of Jango Fett DNA left, and if they used the clones DNA they would lose quality

      DM-Oz In all actuality that wouldnt be true. If Dna was taken from a clone trooper in its earliest stage of development(a younger stage means the clone embryo wouldnt have a grown clones cellular makeup), they could easily continue the clone army. Clone trooper Dna is just as viable as Jangos. The quality would not be affected

    Legends version makes more sense. Even aging twice as quickly the Empire could have gotten another 15 years or so of effective (and potentially frontline) service out of those soldiers they had already paid for. Also with the change to the imperial system they would have needed vastly more ground troops to occupy so many worlds so the cloning facilities and training facilities which were already running full stop would have been completely needed for at least several years till a great many academies were fully established.

Besides, they couldn't produce clones until the end of time anyway, clone wars even says they can only produce so many clones before the Dna degrades and becomes usless... Besides, empire wants numbers over quality... And with the universe under the empire's grip, they had little need for more elite troops at the time.... So I understand cannon....

      @@BlyUehara37 I never said it was bad, just a complex mess. For example: before the prequels, they had a version of what the Clone Wars were, like some kind of Clone invasion to the galaxy. Novels as Labyrinth of Evil and the Clone Wars 2008 series (considered part of Legends by Lucas) made many contradictions.

      thats what makes a Mandalorian, not DNA. many Clones chose to become Mandalorians, yes, but many others were far from it.
      also, when selected to be the template for the clone army, Jango went and hired a hundred different people to train the clone army along side him. they were called the Cuy'val Dar, which translates to "those who do not exist." out of those 100, 75 were Mandalorians, the other 25 were a combination of bounty hunters and warriors from across the galaxy. many of the Mando trainers were known to raise the clones under their command in a very similar way to Mandalorians, but never truly made them Mandalorian. only a few rare cases are shown in book form, ex: Kal Skirata from the Republic Commando novels by Karen Traviss.
      (as a sidenote, a lot of people make the mistake of thinking that Mandalorian, or Corellian are completely separate races, but they're just a group of people, in the same way youd call someone Japanese or British. the only real difference is that Mandalorians dont care about species or bloodline or anything except what you choose to do with the rest of your life. they did start with a majority of one species called the Taung, but eventually the majority of them were humans thanks to them having the largest population in the galaxy. the majority of every civilization were humans.)

      Ramseas119 @ Well...Clones ARE Mandalorians in terms of DNA but I'd assume you and the OP are talking strictly about how they were trained to be the best rather than them being born the best phsyically. Jango did teach the initial clones didn't he (?) so I'd assume his students would have passed on those Mandalorians skills to their students and so on so they must be just as good (skill wise) as any trained Mandalorian you would think.

    The stormtroopers are a insult to the clones mainly because stormtroopers can hit anything even die by tripping over his own blaster and although the clones can miss but at least they can hit their targets 89% of the time

      As a very small officer minority within the Empire, I study galactic history, pass on my knowledge to the battalion under my command, and ensure that they are aware of their predecessors, and that they receive the same vigorous training. I also develop good relationships with my troops, and prefer to lead them personally into battle. Unfortunately we are far too small to change anything in the Empire.

      Darktrooper99 The difference is the clones slowly get replaced after the "clone rebellion" in legends, while in canon, there's really no reason listed other than the deterioration of the clones due to the cloning process used, which is kind of weak. Plus, I like the idea of the Clone rebellion more.

      Eh, they’re pretty similar. Also the clone rebellion concept seems a bit inexplicable to me. Why would they suddenly declare war on the Empire and expect to win just because they have a private army? They’re still dwarfed by the rest of the Empire.

      that being said the Kamino Rebelion explains why the Emperor didn't just force Kamino to continue making Clone Troopers for the Imperial army and refuse to pay for them, a concept that does exist in cannon as that's why the Star Destroyers and Death Stars were able to be made.

    What the Clones didn't mention was that their successes in the Clone Wars were largely possible because they had very competent generals leading them, specifically the Jedi. When Order 66 was executed, the GAR almost literally lopped off its own head and many Clones were left without commanders in the field. The performance of the army dropped substantially and only really improved when Vader himself was leading them, who was once a former Jedi general.

      Actually, the Jedi were terrible Generals. Good frontline leaders, but specially in the early years they fucked up a lot. Jedi didn't receive any military training and had to learn everything from scratch.

      The Jedi were incompetent generals early on, but so were most legitimate generals, due to the extended peace leading to some ineffective strategy and poor equipment leaking in. After a while, having a magical samurai with the power to see really far away and predict enemy movements through the Force became really effective, as, by then, people figured out how to better fight real wars.

      Part of the reason why most clones carried out order 66 was because they found the Jedi commanders pretty incompetent. At this point most if not all Jedi alive would have been raised from a young age in the temple and would have had no military experience. In fact it was part of Palpatines plan to discredit the Jedi. This is also why in a few rare instances the clones disobeyed order 66 because they actually admired their Jedi commander when that Jedi displayed some level of competence and/or regard for troops under their command.

    The clear implication of Episode II was that we were seeing the creation of the first generation of stormtroopers, and I remember seeing it in the cinema and how mind blowing the revelation was, and how that, unlike other aspects of the story, seemed to have been planned all along. We'd never seen a stormtrooper's face, we only knew they were human(oid) because Luke and Han were able to take their armour. They had numbers instead of names, and were treated by the Rebels as faceless, expendable cannon fodder. The progression from an all Jango Fett army to a mix of different clones and conscripts in Legends made perfect sense. The Disney canon messed it up.

    Would you mind adding a bibliography of sorts to your description? You sometimes mention something really interesting off the cuff, and I have no idea of where to get more information about it, so knowing where it's from would be helpful.

      I usually put the sources used in the video in the description, though sometimes I forget. I actually have thought about putting the sources used right in the video; where they'd appear on the bottom of the screen during when the related information is said in the video. I'm still trying to figure out how to best do that without making the video seemed crammed. But if you have a specific part of the video you want sourced feel free to ask :)

      From this video, you mentioned the Clone who Vader tried to nudge towards retirement - that sounds like a really interesting story.
      And, if you remember, in another video about religion in The Empire (I think) you mentioned a time the Empire almost turned against Sidious and Vader because they were outed as Force Users.
      I'd be most appreciate of any information you can give in this regard, on either of these. Thanks again.😁

      The Clone retirement part came from the book "Tarkin". If I remember correctly, it was early on in the book when Vader and Tarkin were off on their first mission together.
      The part where some Imperials turned on Vader and Palpatine because they were force users came from a Legends comic series, I think it was either the Ghost Prison comic series or the Dark Times one.

    For Canon, why did they stop cloning production? Legends gave a good readon (the kaminoan rebellion) but did i miss a reason?
    Also, they made the kamino rebellion non-canon? Dammit, that is such a cool scenario and great story telling possibilities as well as gameplay! Atleast keep that in canon :(

      In canon, the Clones were enormously expensive, and the Fett DNA used to produce them had become corrupted, . It wasn’t that there was a single event like in Legends, it was more that the Clones had just become impractical.

      Thats a good reason regardless, especially the DNA corruption. Just that with how much they do the whole quantity over quality method, the cloning other templates would be a better alternative or reduce the amount of troopers or specialize the clones for more skillful tasks.

      They had to scrap Battlefront 2's campaign from canon since the clones were traitors from the get go but in the clone wars series which is canon, the clones were loyal and only betrayed the Jedi because of inhibitor chips in their heads that made them do it.

      Franco Valdez yeah but a massive fleet of star destroyers can pretty do the same, just takes longer. Still love the death star. And idk if the Yuuzhan Vong are canon, or some variant. Would be cool if they do become canon though they probably screw it up (im not super informative on legends so yeah).

    You know war ended and super effective troops weren't needed (you don't need elite soliders to deal with pirates and rogue rebels) so they started using rule "Quanity over Quality" propably biggest mistake by empire

      Yes they are you want an example ? Clone Wars there were so many droids, but clones were simply better and more effective and they won most of important battles

      Adding on to that, the half of the Galaxy the republic controlled was far way less .. " Rebellious ". People liked the Republic they lived in, if we see the Empires side, everyone hated it, with that x2 the size of the Republic, it seems getting quantity over quality was the only choice.

    I remember in the middle of one of the Clone Wars episodes it was stated that Jango's DNA was being stretched far beyond it's limit and that the production of clones would eventually have to cease until a suitable replacement could be found. Not doing so would result in soldiers with defects that would make them ineligible to be on the battle field.

      I wish they would reuse many of the Legends stories by bringing them back to canon. I would like the Plagueis novel to be one of them.

      I still like to think that many of the legends stuff is canon. I like to think that Garm Bel Iblis is still a founding member of the Rebel Alliance and that Nebular Class Star Destroyers are apart of the New Republic Fleet. Just because the Lucasfilm Story Group says there not canon doesn't mean you have to listen to them. I will be disappointed if the 2 are never brought back by the group, but they will always be apart of my version of SW regardless.
