The sea + boozie fragrance brought to my mind something like characters from Treasure Island. Like old pirates on their ship, maybe saling through a storm unconcerned while drinking and playing dice or cards. Haven't smelled it, but hearing the description made me think of that.
Yes! This video showcases the artistry of perfumery...How a Picasso or Dali is "weird" visual art and Radiohead, Joanna Newsome or Massive Attack might be considered "weird" musical art...Some houses embrace the concept of Olfactory "weirdness" - LOL! And I have ALWAYS been here for it! ELDO, Zoologist, Imaginary Authors, January Scent Project, Darren Alan, Strangers Perfumery (to name a few) are my favorite fragrance houses! If I had to name three fragrances that the first time I smelled them I was like - WHAT?!?! Zoologist 2015 Bat, Hermann A Mes Cotes Me Parasait Une Ombre by ELDO and Y06-S by Blackbird...The last one really messed me up because it truly smells to me like a Television that has overheated or is literally melting in a fire! xoxo
Wo considers Massive Attack weird tho? Theyre quintessential Trip Hop. The boxer one def gave me a viceral reaction because the idea of wearing blood as a fragrance is just replusive
I read that article too! When they mentioned the seaweed note i was quite skeptical about the pure malt comparison. Thank you for confirming Sebastian!
I blind bought Magic Mushroom and I could not stand it! I’m a teacher and ALL my students said that the room smelled like a hippie. Wore it twice and that was more than enough.
Great video! I love learning about strange scents 😊 Some houses I thought would have been mentioned but weren't include: Olympic Orchids - ex. Night Flyer Beaufort London - ex. Iron Duke Imaginary Authors - ex. Bull's Blood (original formulation)
So you've covered scents that might be adored by Fishermen, Serial killers, Road crews, Mechanics, Tech electronics peeps, Sweaty orchard farmers...Wow Thank you for taking one for the team! ❤
Might I recommend Chicago's Clue Perfumery. Warm Bulb is a super interesting conceptual fragrance with notes of Dust, Steam, Immortelle, Vanilla, Amber (it smells like a projector to me). Morel Map and The Point are also good.
I actually use PR Acqua di sale often during the summer … my body chemistry is like a piece of paper (as been commented by a few perfume store staff). I actually got a lot of compliments with PR Acqua di Sale. I guess body chemistry greatly varies 😊
Oh I love Chypre Mousse 😍 I love wearing that in the fall when I go on walks after it just rained and the leaves have fallen and are wet. I know, odd…but it’s incredible.
Whoa, I was having breakfast and then you said the notes in the second perfume…that put me off my breakfast. Well, there will be someone out there who likes having people walk by and say “You smell that?” Whilst scrunched up nose fanning themselves.
I have a 3ml sample that Joe, from Joe Smells Good (also on TH-cam) sent me of Secretions Magnafique, and to my nose it just smells like a rosy powdery clean accord combined with a strong broken cilantro stem accord. It’s not bad in tiny dabs on the wrist. It’s interesting and I keep coming back to it. I wouldn’t use full sprays, but I like it for its originality.
Nishane Unutamam is good weird for me, I love it and I wear it. Fishy smells are a turn off but I'm not that sensitive to marine fragrances as you are, I can stand Acqua di Sale with no issues, it has to be a very strong fishy smell to bother me. Ierofante is on my list since it was released, I just haven't pull the trigger. Great video Sebastian, thank you!!!
Tropical farms, funk and fruit. The Dodo review had me laughing. Great stuff. Aqua de Sale and Chypre Mousse are great on me - but I get what you’re saying.
The weirdest fragrance I've ever bought is "Extra-Terrestrial Adventure" from Park Scents. If you've ever been on the E.T. ride at Universal Studios Orlando you know that ride has a district smell. 😂 I wish it captured the entire ride, but it does a good job of capturing the musky redwood forest queue. Actually another Park Scents "Flume" (inspired by The Pirates of the Caribbean ride) captures the aquatic part of E.T. but it's dominated by the gunpowder, smoke, and metallic notes. They're pretty fun for the novelty.
The opening of Ierofante is challenging for me but I love the dry down. Cozy amber and veviter. Great masculine fall scent. I'd love to cudddle up to a man wearing it.
This was a great video. "This fragrance is vile," (Megamare) had me laughing out load. I really enjoy your honest reactions and the variety of fragrances that you showcase with the inclusion of truly unisex scents.
"Albedo" is the weirdest perfume I happen to have tested on skin. The notes include hyrax, and I was stupid enough to check what hyrax is after spraying some of the perfume on my skin. It's as if a rat died on my wrist, then got reborn, then executed certain bodily activities and then died again... Brrrr.
I just tried my decant of fantomas. It is very good. I find it to be sweet and fruity with jalapeño accord. To me it is reminiscent of more than words. But what do I know? I also like Megamare.
Please review Grand Master from Mind Games! It's similar to Montale Cafe Intense but in my opinion much more rich, robust, and balanced. It's becoming my favorite coffee/amber fragrance. Can't get enough
I acquired "Burnt Rubber" Eau de Parfum.... there is no more information on the label... It was on a table at a beauty sale at work and it is weird in a good way.
This is gonna sound weird- it is, I suppose lmao but I use secretions just one spray under my vanilla sprays sometimes and get compliments more often than when I used to just wear the same vanilla scents without layering it under. I think that scent has a place but not alone aha.
So, I've come to realize that some of these fragrances eventually grow on you and people even start to compliment how you smell. Case in point etat Libre d'orange. I got gifted a bottle from this range, I think it was rien. For months! That bottle stayed on the shelf. Then I got the bright idea to use it as a bathroom spray, apparently some of it got on my towel. Hours after, I walked into the bathroom, and I couldn't believe my nose. It had one of the richest woody scent that I've ever come across. Needless to say that I looked forward to mixing it into my daily fragrance from then on. Unfortunately, I live in Nigeria, where it's hard to come by some of these niche fragrances and do, I haven't been able to replace it.
Can't believe there's an actual market for these types of fragrances. Who'd want to smell like fecal elf civet oud? It's bizarre they'd pay a premium for them too. Each to their own.
It’s actually almost the only stuff I wear lol, I like stuff that’s artistic and abstract. I’m actually in a small online community that is also all about these type of scents
I can think of Blow Up by Moth and Rabbit, inspired by the M.Antonioni movie Blow up from 1966. It gives off a slight asphalt and photographic film feel (if you've seen the movie this makes sense) but I still find it wearable. Leaning a bit towards CDG's Concrete.
Orto Parisi Megamare works on my skin as intended ... diving into the ocean from the surface and slowly descending to the deep abyss. As a person with East Asian heritage - my body chemistry acts like a fragrance blotter, most perfume on my skin is "come scritto" - It has a very "Bright" sparkly opening as if sunlight glittering on seawave, and it becomes increasingly dark. Eventually, the base notes are seaweed and a hint of oud... as with the Megamare theme, it evokes the dark abyss of the Mariana Trench. Olfactory theatre indeed and it is a masterpiece. Orto Parisi Seminalis is actually very interesting ... it is a very creamy beautiful scent - a good combination of sweet almond milk and musk ... definitely musk and oud on the dry down... I suspect for some that's where the animalic "funk' comes from. it is a very warm scent. Orto Parisi and with the Mad Nose signore Gaultieri - this is a true niche Maison. and Yes I have the whole collection of OP
The weirdest I’ve tried is Arsenic from the original Tokyo Milk Dark line. Notes are absinthe, vanilla salt, cut greens and crushed fennel. Is it vanillic ? Savory? Green? Herbal? Boozy? None of the above, it’s a mess and I suspect that’s why it was discontinued.
Vio-Volta by DS&DURGA could be in this list. It’s not gross but not pleasant. It uses violet to give off this electric/ozonic smell mixed with aerosol cleaner of some sort.
My weirdest fragrance is D.S & Durga Deep Dark Vanilla. It literally wrenched my stomach upon first smell, I almost tapped out. Initial smell is like… souring Robitussin. Overtime it evolved into a really nice fragrance with the hay and patchouli at the end.
One that I find very weird is Stairway to Heaven by Jul Et Mad. Initially I loved it but it's almost too weird lately. My son also detests it and that's rare so I am wondering if it needs to stay in my collection.
I used to have Megamare and Seminalis. Had to let go of these two coz I just can't wear 'em. I still have my vintage bottle of Secrections, a lot nastier than the current blend.
Revolution by Trudon is a weird one. Guess is out of the market because of allergens, anyways, such a gun powder power right in your face. I wasn’t prepared.
So it's usually the very marine, very acquatic notes which bring out the nastiness. That explains why I've never liked any aquatic fragrance, full stop.
I asked all the employees at Aedes here in NYC what their least favorite scent in the place was and they ALL said m/mink by Byredo. Which is funny because I own it and like it very much but I know not to wear it in public.
Secretions Magnifiques is the worst fragrance ever smelled. Amouage's Figment man (which smells like wet soil) smells like heaven in front of Secretions Magnifiques. Very weird is also nasomato's Blamage and Amouage's Myths Man. Also weird are PDM's Byerley

There's definitely a drive towards experimentation and fragrances that challenge people around you, which is an interesting concept for now. We're also in a place where fragrances are costing more and more, despite a lot of us earning less in real terms. It's driving dupes, not enhancing exclusivity.
Secretion Magnifique is just smell somewhat between Tabrizi Cheese and Kashk(Iranian sauce). The nasty things about it is only to advetise it as the worst smell.
Megamare doesn't smell fishy to me , maybe more like a potent seaweed and some industrial chemical. It has an incredible trail and I actually ran after a stranger in Venice to find out what he was wearing!
Bull's Blood. Especially the older one. And it's an instant room takeover. The scent itself though, is a weird one. I think Imaginary Authors definitely executed what they were going for. Still though....pretty weird.
I tried Boxer because you had it in one of your kits. HARD PASS. I’m not that adventurous when it comes to perfume, but I did buy a sample of Zoologist’s Tyrannosaurus Rex. Campho Phenique and campfire. Another one that’s not for me. 😆
@@ThePerfumeGuy I like tobacco cologne’s but they smell a bit too fruity for me. There still good but I like the smell of second hand smoking. It doesn’t have to be just cigarettes.

"Foamy mushroom earthiness" is probably the last thing I want to have while looking for a fragrance 😂
LOL
😂
I agree but I also want to try it! If heard that it’s actually good
I like the fragrance
I read that article too! When they mentioned the seaweed note i was quite skeptical about the pure malt comparison. Thank you for confirming Sebastian!
Megamare and acqua di sale are both masterpieces, they can smell funny up close but their trail invokes a photorealistic sea or oceanfront smell.
That's really taking one for the team! Thank you, Sebastian. I've come to like Red Colorado. The dry down is worth a struggle to get to.
I blind bought Magic Mushroom and I could not stand it! I’m a teacher and ALL my students said that the room smelled like a hippie. Wore it twice and that was more than enough.
I hope you bought a sample and not a whole bottle.
@@tspencer661I bought the whole bottle….lol

I only have Toskovat's Inexcusable Evil in my weird perfume collection. It efficiently put a stop to my dream of having a weird collection.
