Somebody should start a magazine subscription comparable to how Ulta or Sephora have the fragrance section in their catalogs where you can smell perfumes on the Pages. Except in this case, it would be all fragrances that most people don’t have access to catch a scent of in stores, all Niche. Because where I live there is literally no where to smell anything that isn’t mainstream designer. Would be a game changer.😢😊
They already have those. I've gotten a book from a designer that did that that I can't remember the name of & I got a sample box from Serge Lutins once that was small amounts of solid cologne for free
My least favorite perfume is one of the most popular… Baccarat Rouge 540. I don’t dislike it as much as I used to, but I still do not enjoy that perfume. I have to go along with you on Calone, a note which I cannot tolerate either. Interesting video Sebastian.
Secretions Magnifiques… the lady at the store convinced me to try it on skin and “give it time”.. omg I have never felt so self conscious in public on my way home🙈🙈
Patchouli is problematic for me as well..I start to tolerate it better, but it depends on the perfume. In many perfumes I tried, it comes across like decaying wood chips and dirt..
It's so entertaining to hear you point of view and see what triggers everyone, haha. We all have different connections to scent. I've tried time and time again to love T-Rex from Zoologist and I can't get rid of that pastrami vibe I get from it! And, patchouli is such a weird note. I can like it when it's well used and creates a creamy, chocolatey vibe but when it gets into that moldy, hippie vibe, I just can't.
FOLLOWD is a beast but problem is the person who spray it only will enjoy it and will smell the caramel-chocolate-coffee.. but most of people around will smell the curry or kitchen spices or fundageek.. but i love it 🔥
I love Ganymede, Hindu Kush, and Noir Anthracite...I wish that Noir was still in production. I think a lot people say they hate patchouli because they are thinking about the hippie/head shop variety, which I don't like either, but it smells sooooo good in many perfumes. Someone below wrote of their dislike for camphor. I couldn't agree more...I don't enjoy anything camphoric. Cypriol/papyrus can be challenging to me at times. Thanks Perfume Guy!!
Please do a list of on Pierre Guillaume. I purchased both Coze and Animal Mondain per your suggestions and both are amazing. Strangely, I have most of the fragrances this list. I love Hindu Kush, my favorite Mancera as well.
I can’t think of any notes I don’t like. Ambroxan in high concentrations does give me a headache if I’m exposed for long periods. And I do agree on Followed, that stuff is nuclear!!
Isn't that funny......love Italica. The almonds, vanilla, toffee etc....hubby loves this cozy gourmand. :) LOVE Ani.....just wore it yesterday. You are right....we cannot love every fragrance....every nose is different...that's what we love about the fragrance world. Ani is a classic for me. :)
I struggle with overly lactonic (for example, Blanche Bête), nutty (Girl of now comes to mind) and tobacco notes (pretty much all tobacco-heavy scents I tried).
Great video as usual! I personally dislike the maple syrup note in perfumes, it just makes me feel like I smell like pancakes with syrup. I don't enjoy it. I also don't like a strong Iris note (maybe violet too?) as to me a strong iris note smells like leather. I don't mind a subtle leather scent or a subtle iris/violet scent but if either are too strong it's very unlikeable for me.
I like a lot of these! Ha. I like it when my nose is challenged by strong and strange smells. When I went to buy Followed I asked Ministry of Scent about the reformulation rumor and they pointed me to a post by John where he says it is not and never will be reformulated. I bought the bottle and it’s plenty strong and smells like my first batch sample. The overspray finally came off my coat sleeve sometime over the summer lol definitely need to be careful applying.
i've received a sample from Kilian like 5 years ago, containing Dark Lord (and it was Black Phantom too, a duo pack), and HOLY GOD... worst smell i smelled! :D it LITERALLY smelled for like this: you blend 5 leather jackets, make a reduction from them, then put in a parfume vial... disgustingly overwhelming and powerful leather note, bloah :D
I can’t fathom how anyone hates these fragrances. I understand how calone is just not for everyone. Definitely needs to be a hot summer day near an aquatic setting so that it mixes with the sea salty air and your own sweat, maybe with a little sunscreen mixed in. But… Leatherize is such a olfactive snapshot of a tannery. Italica is blind voted by me as the number one fragrance every single time. Ganymede is so sexy. I’ve already sent decants out to a friend twice because he is in love with it and can’t afford a full bottle. Red tobacco is just the screamer version of Carlisle by PDM or Triumph of Bacchus by Argos. Followed is one of my favorites. I put on a shirt I wore 3 weeks ago, and I can still smell it. Yeah. It smells like breakfast but I love that. Ani. That vanilla is coupled with that sort of grandma’s attic must it dust but it’s amazing and creates such a unique vanilla sillage that leans more masculine. Tuscan Leather I kind of get. A little scratchy but the raspberry note makes it bearable. Similar also to Baccio Immortelle by Argos. Hindu Kush is my least worn and I think it’s okay, but I don’t think it matches with my skin chemistry like it obviously does yours so I get why this isn’t liked much. I’ve never tried anything from Mind Games. And haven’t smelled Oud Satin Mood, or Coze either sadly. So let me guess. Everyone hates leather. Mind blowing. When I got my letterman’s jacket in high school it had leather sleeves and it made the entire family coat closet smell so good. Every time I opened the closet doors I would smell that leather wafting out and it smelled so good and I just loved putting it on in the morning before going to school. Maybe that’s the scent memory that makes me love the smell of leather so much, especially Ganymede. Chef’s Kiss to that perfection.
Parchouli?!? Gonna have to edit that and reupload. Patchouli Magnetik I still can acclimate to. That and Unspoken Musk still has me gagging if I smell it directly sprayed on my skin. I’m gonna have to really practice to like that one. Dial the sprays to one or 2, and let it sit an hour before I can enjoy it.
Ganymede it's very weird smell to me because I remembered to printing supplies (ink, paper & another stuff) and I know that smell very well since I worked some years ago on a printing (or press house)
Been very busy with work but I’m back, good to see you, this is always an interesting subject. For me i still can’t stand Dior Fahrenheit. I want to like it but my nose just says NOOOOOO!
I used to gag at the smell of patchouli; but, I’m talkin’ the essential oil someone used to mask their scent v perfume themselves - so, prior to becoming a perfume enthusiast, I never would have thought I’d like it. But, as it turns out, I very much do. I love it in so many fragrances, especially one you recommended (and incl in one of your scent boxes), Jovoy’s Psychedelique!
for me Ganymede is masterpiece!!! Love it so much ❤❤❤ For me in general There are no nots that I dislike if they’re in moderate, but cannot stand too much oud, wood, leader, saffron or osmantus. That why I think that a perfumery is like a Symphony where all musical notes sounds in harmony….
I have real trouble with Ambroxan. It is so dry and bitter to me. I feel like my nose is bleeding. 😢 I know it’s supposed to be similar to ambergris, but I prefer resinous ambers like myrrh.
I really enjoy Tuscan Leather the key to it is applying it on to a Leather jacket and leaving it a couple of hours before going out. Then you get the magic, that being said I like Leather fragrances ie YSLs Noble Leather, Aqua de Parma Colonia Leather and PDM Goldolphin.
I love this video --I love that you not only talk about the comment but you also give your interpretation on how you feel about the fragrance another great video Sebastian thank you❤
LOVE Leatherize, Red Tobacco, Ganymede, Hindu Kush, Satin Mood, Noir Anthracite, Followed, Tuscan Leather, those people need to get their nose fixed!!! 😬kidding, everyone is different, entitled to like whatever they want and that's the beauty of it, in fact ANI doesn't work for me 🤷♂ Still have to try Coze, don't care for Mindgames, sorry not sorry. Thanks for the video Sebastian!!!
My first experience in fragrance was patchouli; when I was just a kid I got a whiff of it from some adult and I asked them what it was. That person gave a small roll-on for me as a gift, and I loved it! It's warm and earthy and a bit spicy and as I got older I discovered it was some perfume but I forgot what the name was. The closest I ever got to that kind of smell was Calvin Klein Obsession. After patchouli, musk was a very close favorite, followed by leather and sandalwood.
I also was very disappointed in Nishane's Ani. I got zero vanilla, which was a bummer. So many ppl say it is a vanilla fragrance with zing and spice, but I only got the zing and spice and I didn't like th smell. It just did nothing for me and after hearing so many rave reviews, I thought I would love it. Boy was I mistaken. too bad!! I love Hindu Kush though!! thanks to Sebastian
I bought blind Hindu Kush , because I’m always watching your videos and you talk about it a lot ! I was not disappointed. Sometimes I wear it to go to work and I got a lot of compliments I’m a woman and I wear nothing but Unisex fragrances.. By the way, I hate gourmand fragances
Seb what a great fantastic and fun review. Patchouli and vetiver are absolute garbage. Also, how come Tom Ford F***ing Fabulous is not on this list? I recently started using it as bug repellent. Works great. Need to find out if it could be used to exterminate bed bugs too.
I absolutely cannot wear anything with patchouli. It always ends in a body odour scent. Like Angel when everyone was wearing it. Just awful! I am a fan of mildly spicy or musky ambery scents, sweet gourmands, warm woody jasminey florals. And right now, although overplayed, I cannot get enough of Baccarat Rouge 540, edp and extrait. Love it!!
I also enjoy the note of Patchouli but when it's done to resemble the note of chocolate 🍫 😋. I dislike it when it smells like dirt. That earthy patchouli is not enjoyable for me.
Once I see vanilla I’m out. But in other news I think I’m going to get leatherize 😂😂 I’ve been searching for a perfume that smells like brown leather that isn’t heavy on that saffron.
Hearing these choices is very interesting. Many I did not understand how someone couldn’t like it. But I understand fragrances are different for everyone. I absolutely LOVE patchouli. To me it’s such a beautiful scent.
Maybe I'd be overwhelmed with the full bottle, but I absolutely love the sample of Italica I have. It smells absolutely delicious, I was shocked. One of the best gourmand I've ever smelled, and I thought it was probably full-bottle worthy and one of the best winter/Christmas scents you could put on. 🍪🥛
I agree with your mimic about Cruz del Sur II: first it is the most realistic mango smell. Then sour milk as if someone threw up their mango ice cream🤢
This is always an entertaining subject! Though I cannot imagine hating any of these fragrances. I initially hated Red Tobacco, but I was over spraying it. Now I love it. Hindu Kush is pleasant, but to me it smells like bananas and bubblegum and so I don’t wear it often. The one note I can’t stand is aldehydes. Anything with that note smells like powdered dishwashing detergent to me. Tom of Finland, Sacred Scarab, Heritage - all of these smell alike. The aldehydes take over and it’s all I can smell.
I absolutely LOVE Followed - I am sorry…..😊 it has something that I really enjoy and so of course I also love it when my apartment smells like it for days - oh and yes, it is a beast!!! I believe that we link all smells with a memory so I, for example, despise super sweet fragrances on a man (like Ani or Le Male) and so any fragrance that goes in that direction reminds me of a terrible and mean boyfriend (just to mention some nice words about him 😉) and I will not like it. Oh and btw, I also think Hindu Kush is stunning.
I have a Followed sample, it is definitely beast mode! The spray bottle is closed inside a packet and it smells like it every time I pass by my fragrances shelves 😂😂
Trying to figure out if the note Heliotrope is what my nose perceives as sharp and not good to me. I love almond note but fragrances with heliotrope I seem to not like 🤷🏻♀️ (whispers of admiration, dolce Acqua by Profumum Roma, Lilac Love, Lancôme Tresor 🤢…) I LOVE Italica and am so glad my nose can appreciate it!
I'm not big on jasmine or ylang-ylang when it's just straight up. I want to smell them wafting from afar, I don't want my nose directly in those flowers. Oddly, I think I'm a bit of a calone-lover LOL But GANYMEDE? it's fantastic!!! they know not of what they speak!
To me it was a surprise, how could anyone hate Ani or Italica, I love both! But yeah, noses and perception of people are very different. I could agree on that Ganymede, Hindu Kush and Followed sounds like a perfume nightmare to me. Especially Followed by Kerosene - so glad my friend purchased only sample to try it first, we were shocked how strong it is! But I really love Sweetly known and Unknown Pleasures fragrances of this house. It's not as strong as Followed, but they are very nice gourmand scents. Another friend of mine doesn't like patchouli btw, because for him it's very oily and causes a nausea to him. He doesn't use any fragrances at all, just deodorants.
Red Tobacco is all i dislike in a tobacco scent. Barely any tobacco smell and overly sweet. But i enjoy TF Anthracite Noir, it's dry, spicy almost like charcoal.
Very surprised by this list Sebastian, I love leather and get why people don't like DS & Durga but I still appreciate it. Others that to me are great and are crazy being here , Gannymeade, Red Tobacco, ANI 😮, Tuscan Leather C"mon, Oud Satin Mood.. to me FOLLOWED is the only one that belongs because it's way to strong. I assumed there would be a few but this list is crazy. But to each his own. Cheers Brutha 😎
I hated patchouli, for example in A man and Jovoy Psychedelic, until I tried Elie Saab le parfum Royal, and Crush on Me, It's a double-edged sword kind of a note IMO, not like Toka for example, it can destroy or make a fragrance fantastic
I'm not a huge fan of calone as a note either. I don't do well with a lot of musk, jasmine or incense but in moderation, I can handle them okay. I can't handle any of the Marc-Antoine Barrois fragrances, so whoever voted for those, I second it. Just not for me. I have to disagree about Mancera's Red Tobacco, for me, it's a amazing. Personally, I love patchouli as a note but not in every fragrance. Some fragrances, like Patchouli Magnetik from Maison Crivelli, I can't stand but Jovoy's Psychedelique is a masterpiece.
For me in my opinion the worst smelling fragrance I've smelled was Sentra by Memo Paris because of that dominant sharp petigrain note. Mixed with the orange blossom made it smell like sweet grass.
not a fan of lactonic and also gourmand, especially chocolate, cotton candy, caramel, sugar. Those notes make me nauseous. Not a fan of sickly sweet scents in general.
I love these videos! I love it when people aren’t afraid to say what they dislike about a fragrance. I also find it rather hilarious when people get offended by it. 😂
I know fragrance is subjective but if you dislike Hindu Kush you better get back to your Dior Sauvage (or any designer really) Hindu Kush is unusual yes but it's sweet and very pleasing
LVEB is my Followed by Kerosene. It’s horrible to my nose. On me or anyone. When I tried it, I was prepared to love it, & was instantly repelled and I scrubbed & scrubbed & my sweetie still smelled it on me even after half an hour in the hot tub. He loved it! Go figure. 😆 When I smell it on anyone, I have to flee or vomit. 🥴 I’m talking about the original, although the flankers also have whatever the detestable note is. I guess you love or hate it. It’s certainly popular enough. 🥴
Ganymede Extrait, just smells like birch tar. Just smoke. Its linear. I thought it was gonna be different and mineral and unique. Its just plain birch tar and that sucks.
I loooove love love patchouli! I hate the melon note in perfumes. I thought it is "made of" calone, but I think they might be two different chemicals, because I like CK one, but I hate Cool Water for women. I detect a melon note in Ellena's Jardin apres le Moussson, it is not an official note but it is there and it ruins the otherwise superb perfume that it is.... If I could only take out that note from it....
Yes, I get a makeup vibe from Oud Satin Mood, which would be fine if it wasn’t combined with an (almost rancid) oiliness. To me that one is an absolute mess, powdery, oily, violet and vanilla. I get no oud, no rose, and I really don’t see what the hype is about at all. It’s actually kind of yucky.
I agree with you, the worst note for me is Calone, I absolutely hate it. Even the smallest dose of it can make me gag, smells like eggs and fish and the sea in a bad way.
Don't understand the hate for Red Tobacco. I got the chance to try the Intense version and it's indeed a more intense version, but I think they reformulated the original version and made it less potent
I also really hate Calone / Cascalone / Calypsone. It also makes me gag and gives me a headache. I don't enjoy cypriol oil either, but if it is used sparingly such as in Basilica, I can tolerate it.
Can someone please give an example of a fragrance where patchouli takes on that chocolate cakey effect? I never think it smells like chocolate but maybe I just haven’t smelled those fragrances.

I watched the tea video. Love T42 L'Artisan Parfumeur.
Start the business. And it would be those stores, because they carry east access designers anyway.
They already have those. I've gotten a book from a designer that did that that I can't remember the name of & I got a sample box from Serge Lutins once that was small amounts of solid cologne for free
That's an awesome idea
Hence the blind buy gambling.
Sebastian literally has a product made for that! Scent Club
My least favorite perfume is one of the most popular… Baccarat Rouge 540. I don’t dislike it as much as I used to, but I still do not enjoy that perfume. I have to go along with you on Calone, a note which I cannot tolerate either. Interesting video Sebastian.
Love Ani. I have about 60 scents, niche and designers but Ani is in my top 3. How can you not like it??
Secretions Magnifiques… the lady at the store convinced me to try it on skin and “give it time”.. omg I have never felt so self conscious in public on my way home🙈🙈
This made me laugh out loud. Thank you! Hahaha. I bought it because everyone said it was so bad.
Patchouli is problematic for me as well..I start to tolerate it better, but it depends on the perfume. In many perfumes I tried, it comes across like decaying wood chips and dirt..

I have to agree on Ani. The green note is what gets me. I much prefer Ani X which doesn't have those green notes.
Love Patchouli so much, I can't imagine my life without Patchouli. Most of the mentioned in this video fragrances my favorites 😊
Try Indonesian patchouli laundry sauce, ZUM patchouli laundry soap. 😀
FOLLOWD is a beast but problem is the person who spray it only will enjoy it and will smell the caramel-chocolate-coffee.. but most of people around will smell the curry or kitchen spices or fundageek.. but i love it 🔥

I got my fingers crossed...Thanks!!@@osmathgreenle8986
Would love a Pierre guillaume house overview/ top 10! Will buy Myrrhiade next week and I own animal mondain and liqueur charnelle love them both!
Red Tobacco will always be my love..♥️♥️💞💞. out of 100 bottles
Ambroxan in high concentrations does give me a headache if I’m exposed for long periods.

two worst fragrances I smelt are Dior Poison (great name for it) and and the Mugler that smells sickly sweet

Neroli never fails to make me nauseous. Probably a negative association from being choked out by someones neroli perfume as a kid
Great video with some great choices in there and I enjoyed it and have a blessed day

I tried le labo calone., it was nice, smelled like melon/honeydew
Red tobacco is great. It’s not for everyone. 🙃
Omg i adore Zara worm addictive! I wear it to bed it’s calming me.
Have you smelled Ani X?
Ani didn’t impress me either. Because of the hype, I’d expected more I guess. It smelled a bit generic to me.
I was not impressed by Ani. It smells like tiger balm ointment……

Mindgames Checkmate is my favorite and it has a little DNA of Portrait of a Lady…..which I have worn for years…..loved the video ❤️❤️
I love patchouli. Not my favourite note, but I do enjoy it.

I love patchouli ❤
I like Tuscan leather but i find the raspberry note strong towards the drydown
Baccarat Rouge 540 smells like my car caught fire on the interstate.
I love pachouli, Carlisle, STH, Monkey Special, main ones off my head.
Hearing these choices is very interesting. Many I did not understand how someone couldn’t like it. But I understand fragrances are different for everyone. I absolutely LOVE patchouli. To me it’s such a beautiful scent.

I love Ani from Nishane! ❤ It's not for everyone but it's a definite YES for me. 😂❤😊
Leatherize is fantastic.
Aquatic note
Trying to figure out if the note Heliotrope is what my nose perceives as sharp and not good to me. I love almond note but fragrances with heliotrope I seem to not like 🤷🏻♀️ (whispers of admiration, dolce Acqua by Profumum Roma, Lilac Love, Lancôme Tresor 🤢…)
I LOVE Italica and am so glad my nose can appreciate it!
I agree Patchouli is pretty disgusting when a prominent note. It comes over too sweet and sickly. Mixed with amber is the worst.
So many awesome fragrances in this list. But I get it. I hate Creed Green Irish Tweed and it’s popular
Red Tobacco is all i dislike in a tobacco scent. Barely any tobacco smell and overly sweet.
But i enjoy TF Anthracite Noir, it's dry, spicy almost like charcoal.
This is one of my favorites. I get so many compliments on Anne
Saw the Boss Bottled Saffron Oud peeking out in the corner. Any chance to review on that sometime soon?
I hated patchouli, for example in A man and Jovoy Psychedelic, until I tried Elie Saab le parfum Royal, and Crush on Me, It's a double-edged sword kind of a note IMO, not like Toka for example, it can destroy or make a fragrance fantastic
Yes! to list of Pierre Guillaume fragrances 😊
Italica smells good to me. I am surprised someone can hate this. Infact my son loves Italica too. My husband has Red Tobacco and I enjoy it.
For me in my opinion the worst smelling fragrance I've smelled was Sentra by Memo Paris because of that dominant sharp petigrain note. Mixed with the orange blossom made it smell like sweet grass.
Ani is a masterpiece! 😊
Do you have any recommendations for a unisex or masculine leaning fragrance that features gardenia?
Ooh tough one. Gardenia might be tough to find but I can keep my eyes open. 😀
Ganymede is the best I follow few times buy woman asking what am wearing
not a fan of lactonic and also gourmand, especially chocolate, cotton candy, caramel, sugar. Those notes make me nauseous. Not a fan of sickly sweet scents in general.
Ani is a great parfum
I love these videos! I love it when people aren’t afraid to say what they dislike about a fragrance. I also find it rather hilarious when people get offended by it. 😂
Noir Anthracite is fire!! Love it!
I swear , I threw away my KEROSENE’ FOLLOWED’ bottle because it was unbearable and the sad part I had swapped it with PDM HEROD .
Tried to throw it away but the scent kept "following" me. Couldn't get it out no matter what I did. I learned to live with it. 😂😂
Ganymede Extrait, just smells like birch tar. Just smoke. Its linear. I thought it was gonna be different and mineral and unique. Its just plain birch tar and that sucks.
Satin Mood? Are you serious? I like the Extract one better, lasts ALL day, the Oud one I am not a massive fan of, its oK, but Satin Oud is great
Will never agree with the Ganymede. It's great, especially the opening. The drydown might have some vegetable-like note, but overall it's 9.5/10.
I don’t really understand the hype with this one.
Worst note for me is Tuberose. Worst fragrance i smelled is La Haine from Moth & Rabbit
Anthracite is fantastic. Sad it’s gone
I definitely need to get Followed and Red Tobacco. 😊
Adore Noire Anthracite!
