We very much enjoyed this video and the family are very much looking forward to taking the same journey ourselves this weekend. Many thanks for sharing 👍
There is plans in the future for Alstom to run a route between Wrexham General to London Euston via Shrewsbury, Walsall and Coleshill Parkway called Wrexham, Shropshire & Midlands Railway (Does sound like a Victorian Pre-grouping Railway name which I do like!) So hopefully Shrewsbury can see London Trains in the future. Great Video G
The new service Wrexham to London Marylebone will not call at Walsall or Becot it will run via Bescot , it will stop at Tame Bridge Parkway . This service is meant to give people of Willenhall and Darlaston direct service to Shrewsbury and Birmingham when they are built , don't know when that will be ,Carillion were going to build them they collapsed/went bust .
@@Sim0nTrains There was a trial service last year running on Birmingham to Shrewsbury section as a trial for willenhall /Darlaston stations, the service starts next Sunday June 2nd ,before posting that I put the journey from Shrewsbury to Marylebone into The Train Line ,it was announced earlier in the year but I didn't know whether it would call at Bescot or not ,Tame Bridge Parkway is my nearest station. A bit odd.but When there's a problem on the West Coast mainline between Rugby and Stafford they will divert trains via Birmingham and Wolverhampton to Stafford on this route 👍👍.
Great video, G! Nice route to ride on! I need to make sure I ride an Avanti Super Voyager before they get replaced with the IET's that are coming soon.
The carriages looked very clean a big THANK YOU to all the people who clean our trains to a standard you ncould eat your dinner off, great vlog once again xxx
Great video G! I would’ve loved to have gone on that service while its still running, its a shame Avanti are stopping it, it would be an amazing experience
Hi G, very nicely presented vlog, pleased you enjoyed the ride and the service. You, Jen and Geoff are great ambassadors for our railways. When are you going to visit East Anglia? There are loads of pretty rides over here...🙂. Take care, Jon B.
@@GLovesTrains That would be great G, please would you let me know when as I could help you decide your route choices...such as Cromer, Lowestoft, G't Yarmouth, even Norwich itself... Take care, Jon B.
Nicely timed upload, I rode Avanti from Wolverhampton for the first time today on a brief day out to Crewe on their Pendolino there (and back of course) and it was actually the first time I'd experienced tilting on these trains as well - I'll tell ya what I think about that, when the Pendo's tilting is actually in affect at the start or end of a corner I could notice that but inbetween it always felt like nothing at all or like you were in a car going around a corner - was very interesting. Also, nice to see you've been on my home patch again (albeit a month ago lol)
@@GLovesTrains It was nice to spend a bit of time there at the station. Was gonna go to the Heritage Centre but we walked all the way to find out it was closed. So after a stop in a nearby shop for some snacks and a drink, back to the station. Even managed to see some 805's for the first time there too.
Certainly a shame it's being taken off, that looks like a lovely and relaxing ride to the big smoke!! 🙂 Thanks again for sharing your adventures with us G 🙏🤗
Enjoyed watching your trip, I live in Wellington so some nice local interesting shots - the view of the Wrekin you took passing under a farm access bridge was nice - I very often take railway shots from that bridge which is known locally as the ‘Windy Bridge’
Great Vlog G. I’ve always liked your Vlogs and they have inspired me to travel on trains more. I do like this style of Vlog where you have a nice balance of music and the background noise. Oh, and the DJI is working really well 😀
I be looking forward to seeing the new Avanti West Coast Class 805 and Class 807 and the East Midlands Railway Class 810 Aurora IETs once these new trains have started service. The Avanti West Coast Class 221 should go to CrossCountry or cascaded to South Western Railway to replace the Class 158 and Class 159.
I will miss Avanti Voyagers, love the interior design on them as well for standard class and first class. Always have and always will be my favourite train. Yes I know, underrated statement but it's the truth!
Good to see someone had a good ride with Avanti. I think I speak for the vast majority though when I tell you of my experience. 1st trip Euston to Glasgow Central: Got kicked off at Preston and left stranded for three hours. 2nd trip on same route. Train cancelled at Euston and ended up leaving 100 minutes later. 3rd trip Glasgow Central to Euston: Got kicked off at Preston and then again at Crewe. I have vowed never to use them again. Virgin were so much better.
This service was an extension of the Euston to Wolverhampton 8 coach service and divides at Wolverhampton. The new proposed WSMR service from Wrexham will commence December this Year avoiding Birmingham.and not dividing AWc cancelled the service over 4ears ago due to lockdown.
Great vlog G. I never actually got to ride Avanti on the Shrewsbury route unfortunately. At least you found a decent vegan breakfast option in first class!
The Avanti West Coast Class 221 Voyagers should be transferred to Grand Central or Crosscountry. Or perhaps cascade them to Scotrail. As they are due to be replaced by the Class 805 Bi-mode IETs later this year.
brilliant video first of all its sad to see that Avanti are taking the direct Shrewsbury to London off very soon & ive ridden a few Avanti Voyagers but only on short trips from Wigan to Preston in 2021 Warrington to Preston in 2022 & more recently from Coventry to Birmigham New St back in March & i personly pefer the Avanti Voyagers over the Cross Country ones & the Avanti ones are more nicer & brighter but i will miss the Avanti Voyagers when they go as they are a nice ride
Interesting that this service was introduced as a direct competitor/successor to Wrexham & Shropshire (and if I recall correctly used to go Salop > Wrexham > Chester where it would join onto something (either there or Crewe) to run down the WCML. Surprised it survived this long but irritating that it's going, seems like a backwards step, even if Salop has multiple London connection options elsewhere (Crewe / Brum / Hereford / Newport). No wonder they call Shropshire the Forgotten County.
It never competed with Wrexham and Shropshire. That service ended in 2011 with Virgin introducing the present Shrewsbury service in 2014. There was a token daily Wrexham extension via Chester that was briefly "competition", but didn't make it to Shrewsbury. Virgin did threaten a competing Shrewsbury service (via Wolves) at the time, but it didn't actually happen until 2014. One or two specifically timed direct trains a day don't complete well with a regular half hourly connection at Wolves or New Street all day every day.
Isn't Shrewsbury Station one impressive piece of architecture?! First Class on Avanti is rather lovely - I have experienced it before, and thoroughly enjoyed it. That breakfast looked pretty nice if I do say so myself.
I live in Edinburgh and my Great Aunt lives in Shrewsbury. There's no reason I would ever have used this service anyway as I would only get the train from Stockport/Macclesfield to London or Edinburgh to London. I suppose the times were really awkward and the passengers loadings were really poor so that's why it was scrapped.
I think I remember that landslip because I think it was the same day I was in Wolverhampton visiting the vegan Market, its funny that you got coupled because I was in a super voyager one time where I was in the carriage which was going to be decoupled when it got to new street but I got at Coventry though.
@@GLovesTrains I had a vegan cheese and pepperoni toastie, some chilli vegan cheese and a granola bar. I think I was also in avanti west coast on the way back so I got to try their 1st class menu as well. I'm going to Brightons vegan Market this Saturday 💚
That breakfast looked shtunning my dear 😅 A shame that the direct Avanti service between Shrewsbury and Euston is finishing, but there will be more frequent WMR services between Scaremingham and Shrewsbury from the June timetable change
Wow that was cheap for an Avanti 1st class ticket. Ironically it isn't any faster than taking Avanti to Crewe then TfW to Shrewsbury, I guess going through Skrimingham is slower than going down the Trent Valley Line.
Not a new service really, Virgin Trams and intially Avanti ,until 2022 operated this route with exactly the same desiel Voyagers ¡on an hourly basis. !
The people of Shrewsbury have been done dirty, when Wrexham & Shropshire introduced their services to and from Marylebone, the service was slow and couldn't use Birmingham New Street due to Virgin Trains kicking up a stink, they then introduced a once a day return service to and from Euston via Crewe whivh was quicker, they then altered it via Wellington which made it slower. And now Avanti are withdrawing it because people can change at Chester and get there quicker. I hope the new Open access service is a success.
Typical bad timing, the Shrewsbury service coming off just before bi model trains would have meant that the majority of the run could have been electrically powered! Saw that working go call at Sndwell & Dudley around two months ago, absolutley rammed in standard, so I waited for the delayed Pendolino behind for my trip to Coventry!
its shocking that this service is going to end believe a new service will start soon Avanti say that no enough people use the service the problem is that there is only one train a day and its very expensive. Shropshire needs a better service to the capital
