I haven’t been on the Class 196 and Class 730/0 but both of those trains do look really nice. And the Class 730/2s are to enter service later this year on London Northwestern Railway and to replace the Class 319 and Class 350/2.

Nice vlog of riding West Midlands railway newest trains G. I rode them within a few days of entering service. My first 730 journey was Tring to Watford and my first 196 journey was Wolverhampton to Birmingham as I didn’t make the first Shrewsbury one due to train disruption.
@@GLovesTrains yeah I had to wake up before 5am to get the 6:27 off Rugby then connect with the 7:00 to Tring from MKC and 8:00 which was the 730 from Tring and the evening one was the 1554 off London back in November.
Both of those new classes of train are lovely and modern - hopefully you get to experience them again. It must be nice to get a chance to try out a new one now and again. Heck knows when we'll see new rolling stock up in my neck of the woods!
@@GLovesTrains I'm just stupidly happy any time I get a ride on one of ScotRail's Class 43's that they use for the InterCity7 services. And those things are 45 years old now... 🤣
Great video, G! I'm yet to try these new trains out when more 323's move to Northern. I like the interior of both trains, the 196 interior does look lovely and reminds me of the 397's interior with the lighting setup!
brilliant review of the amazing 196s & 730s i tried out the 730s back in Feb as i rode one from Birmingham to Wolverhampton & a few days later i had a cheeky ride one another from Wolverhampton to Birmingham after trying out the 196s which i rode from Wolverhampton to Telford & on to Shrewsbury & return to |Wolverhampton & i rode another 196 from Coventry to Nuneaton 2 days later & i love both trains & they are awesome trains awesome vlog

Both the Class 196 and Class 730/0s are very nice trains and London Northwestern Railway are expected to introduce their new Class 730/2s sometime later this year. You should have carried on with riding the Class 730s to Bromsgrove or Reddich.
I've yet to be on a real 730 but ive seen them about, I have been on a simulator for one though. They for me kinda give off class 700 thameslink feel to them with their info boards, I feel that they are similar in that depart. I did get excited when I saw the 196 thinking you was at Coventry/Coventry arena 😅 I've been on the 196s loads of times and been in the cab in them. They are both very good trains and its nice that plugs and usbs are becoming standard on trains not just something exclusive to 1st class.
Very nice vlog G those new trains certainly look very nice i can't wait to have a ride on them very soon looking forward to seeing your full on dance routine next time you are on a 730
Fantastic G as ever two brilliant new trains with all the mod cons so many new classes of units rolling out all over the country at present good to see superb V Blog thanks for showing us these new trains till next time cheers 👌🙂
They look good ,only used once on Wolverhampton to Walsall, the suspension gives Less comfortable ride than the old 4 car trains and at speed they "Hunt"sway side to side a lot more as the older trains, there's plenty of room to walk up and down train because there are 70 fewer seats on them than the 4 Car sets .
Lovely new trains, looks really impressive, back here in Dublin we will be getting new CAF Battery Electric trains for the expansion of our DART rail service later this year and early next year.
Very good. The 196 is my local train. The 730's are very good. Both are huge improvement to what they have been replacing. 730009 unfortunately was vandalised with graffiti. I saw it at University when I was just about coming home from my 600 subscriber special video which is on my Film/Movie & Livestream Channel right now.
Those are two of my most travelled on trains. I actually love Class 196! A lot of people in the rail community have bashed that one for the fact there's only one toilet between three coaches and the fact there's no arm rests, but that doesn't bother me; I love the fact it has more leg room than Class 170 and also the fact it has power sockets which Class 170 didn't have :D Class 730 I don't like though XD I don't like the seating plan on them; it feels more like a step down from Class 323 when it comes to seating plan on a local service. I understand the intention was to fit more people on the train, but I think really it would have been more ideal to have a similar seating plan to Class 345. Also, are tables really necessary on a local journey? XD
I haven't ridden a 196, but I've been on lots of 195s and 197s in the last two weeks, and they seem fine - yes, they're a bit wobblier than (say) a 185, but not so that it matters. And as for the seats, I'd much rather have those than the ones on a Turbostar that push your head forward. And the Shrewsbury riverfront is great, isn't it?
The Class 730s and the Class 196s are very interesting trains, Like how you did a journey from Lichfield to Shrewsbury by using both new trains, great video G! From Cyber Trades :p
On the Shroosbury/Shrowsbury thing, I was once told by a steward at a home game for Shrewsbury Town, that folk living there are split as to which is correct, with equal numbers using either version !
The class 730s and 196s are running with west Midlands railway on their Shrewsbury and Hereford to Birmingham new street and cross city and stour valley lines
Brilliant video G, the Class 196's are nice trains. The Class 730's are nice too (although I'm sad to see the Class 323's leave the cross city line), the only thing about the Class 730's is though, where are the button to close the doors if it gets too cold? lol
Especially by means of design I can only agree that the BR Class 730 is a lovely EMU, Same for the class 196's. Ironically, we also have Civity EMU's with us in the Netherlands. These are the so called SNG's(Sprinter New Generation), 118 of these EMU's are operated by the Dutch State Railways(NS)
Interesting station is Litchfield Trent Valley with that short platform on the other side of the high level passenger platform.I am guessing that platform 4 was once longer and most of it taken out but the bit against the bridge left.I have never seen anything stop at it and I don't think that there's any way to get to it for non rail staff.
EMR and LNWR are two of my fav TOCs --- I have traveled to London (from Stoke) for only £8 on LNW and had a much more comfortable journey than the Avanti pendo ride, though it was a bit slower. Sorry once again, but I wonder what cam you used to shoot this video G --- the quality, detail, colour and contrast is really outstanding - it looks as if you may have HDR enabled too? I want to get back to video making and although I have a background in Pro AV work the best piece of kit I own for video is a 13yr old Nikon D300s DSLR.
I love the orange and purple.. Saw some parked up on the way to Coventry last month. They ought to be sponsored by Sainsbury's with that colour scheme. 195,6,7 are quick and dirty DMU replacements that CAF is building for super cheap. I know the TfW 197s get dragged hard because they honestly are terrible (I can attest to this one first hand). The 730s are mainly there to replace the aging class 350s in LNWR's fleet and the 323s since London is still playing shuffleboard with Electrostars and they would be a bit overkill for WMR service. The 387s are still too new and too in demand to get hand-me-downed to a TOC up north, and 375s/377s are 3rd rail only.
Found your channel after watching Geoff Marshall, love your approach to trains, but only after watching a couple of your videos think it lacks something when the 'melons' don't get a mention lol
I suspect they'll be a lot like the LNER ones, just twice the price since it's Avanti haha. @@Liamtrainspotter40 That's good. I know not all versions of the seat used by GWR and LNER on the 80x are awful, the TfW 197s use the same model of seat just in a better version, probably the only positive thing you could say about the 197s haha.
I rode a 730 005/009 combo a few weeks back (may even have been the same day) from Longbridge-Bourneville whilst riding some 323s before they head your way! I'd already ridden 007 (shaken, not stirred!) on a Wolverhampton-Walsall train. And today, I've ridden 196 110 & 112 on the Hereford line! Yeah, like virtually all new/refurbished trains atm, the seats do seem a little hard but both are great units, with the spaciousness of the 730s being really good!
