To all those commenting saying "it's a beetle, not a bedbug" you're completely wrong. Tim is correct. That is 1000% an adult bed bug that has fed that night. Leave your stuff, get out of there, and if your front door is shielded I would even strip off to my birthday suit before entering my house. I've never had them thankfully, but a few years ago I was convinced I did, and did all the research I could on these little ******s... The mental toll these things can take is horrendous
100% it's a bedbug, I thought I found one in my house, it turned out to be a carpet beetle, I can't tell you the stress and research I did on the nasty little mites, I drove myself insane even when I'd be been told by several experts it wasn't. I am super careful when we come home from any hotel, bags stay outside until I'm ready to wash all the clothes, what we are wearing goes directly in the washer, cases are kept in the shed. For anyone who gets them indoors it can take multiple treatments to get rid of them and intense cleaning twice a day at least. If you travel by tube or bus stand up where possible
I can't bring myself to buy one Sun newspaper, never mind several, to get a cheap holiday. They've ruined far too many people's lives with their lies. Persisting in selling a £152 holiday (full of bed-bugs no less) and claiming it costs £9.50 is completely on-brand.
I used to work for the company that owns premier inn, they do monthly bed bug checks, they have a team go in with sniffer dogs and check every room. They're actually really on top of it as a company.
nothing wrong with the caravans mate. we go every year either haggy or berwick. Just somewhere to put your head down on a night. good fun. just soft southerners complaining.
@@Hotondave68 I live in a caravan in Tenerife - my bedroom is in my awning, so it's like camping. I have 4 cats and they bring all sorts in - or creatures crawl in themselves. Found all sorts in my bedroom - cockroaches, mice, lizards with tails bitten off, biting spiders - sometimes my cat will dump half a lizard on my face while I am sleeping. A few days ago I almost ate a cockroach - was hiding in a packet of biscuits and I was just about to put it in my mouth. They don't bother me - I just release them back outside when they come in, or the cats kill them. Got loads of antibiotic cream as always getting bitten and infected by mosquitoes LOL - but I wouldn't want any other life.
@@Hotondave68 when i travelled the UK in my caravan I stayed at Hagerston Castle for a few days. Nice site, also used to stay near Wooler when up that way.
It’s not stupid to be scared of bed bugs, take them home and it can cost thousands of pounds to remove them from your house. It’s not an irrational fear!
People also ask What is the definition of a phobia? Listen to pronunciation. (FOH-bee-uh) An extreme, irrational, fear of something that may cause a person to panic.
Bedbugs aren't just on beds and material covered items. They will also get into grooves of furniture (like the corners of a bed frame) so you really should inspect EVERYTHING. As you enter start looking at the couch cushions, hems of curtains, etc.
When he said it was a new looking mattress, my first thought was they've probably replaced it as the old was infested, but the bugs were also in the bed frame.
When I was working as a locum in the NHS, I was tempted to give up my flat and move into the nurses’ quarters to save money. I later found out from a colleague that they had chronic bedbug issues in the nurses’ quarters and I was so relieved that I’d kept my flat even though it cost me a small fortune in rent!
Hi Tim, I suffered from an infestation of bed bugs in my parents house about 10 years ago. It lasted for months and resulted in throwing away a lot of things, books, clothes, mattresses, even stripping if our carpet and getting floorboards! It affected me so much I completely failed one year at university. Since then I’ve been so paranoid when I travel or if I get itchy or feel like something is crawling on me in bed. So sorry you experience this but I can HIGHLY relate to this anxiety you have. I have two kids now so I also get paranoid when they get bites or rashes! Never ending trauma! Great video overall!
I just recently got back from Paris and was covered in bites. I thought I got them from the dusty floors outside as I was bending down to take photos a lot but when I got home I heard the news about the bed bug epidemic and it all made sense. I'm horribly allergic to them and my arms and legs are covered in horrible scars now 2 months later. I was constantly bleeding for weeks! I binned my suitcase and boil washed everything. I completely understand about the anxiety and how badly it can affect your mental health moving forwards and I usually have no problems mentally. I'll always check for bed bugs wherever I go now.
Found them in my place as well.... I must have picked them up from my travels. I too did not even know they existed, I thought they were a myth from a nursery rhyme. I tried insect bombs, which did not work, so I got the professionals in who found an established infestation, thankfully from just one treatment of spraying, hot washing all clothes and linen and disposing of one bed we managed to get rid of them. I now know that I was lucky, as some people have to go to extraordinary lengths to get rid of them. I actually helped the pest controllers at my house, and saw first hand how thorough they had to be in their treatment process.
@@UR_HR Yep they often use multiple pesticides too since bed bugs have become resistant to some, but sometimes even that isn't enough. The only sure way to kill them all is heat the areas to 50C which also kills their eggs, some professionals provide this service for difficult cases when nothing else works.
Having a phobia of bedbugs is completely valid and not babyish at all! Those things are so so difficult to get rid of, and you do NOT want to bring them home with you! You made the right choice and it was not an overreaction.
Hi Tim, really sorry to hear you all had to go through this, regardless of the cost of the holiday you DO expect clean accommodation. I was only thinking I needed a cheap getaway not too far I actually looked at the Sun holidays but this has put me right off lol ...hope you are all okay x
The bed bugs can be in the wooden cabinets aswell. I used to work in a hostel and we would get the pest Control to a Room and they would spray the whole thing and they would allways apear back in the same Room. Took US a bit to realize their nest was inside of a wooden cabinet
New subscriber ! Greetings from the states - I’ve got a friend who travels all the time and is paranoid about bed bugs and her best advice is upon arrival at a new hotel, always put your luggage/bags etc into the bathtub/shower until you are 100% satisfied the room is bug free.
I have the EXACT same bed bug anxiety as you Tim. I found a bug on my bed a few years ago, I completely ripped my bedroom apart trying to find more - thankfully it was just a garden beetle that snuck into my room 😂. False alarm! It's great that you managed to see them on the bed, the fact that they are big enough to see with the naked eye gives me some sort of odd relief!! I was expecting them to be tiny.
I don't want to spike your anxiety but they're wayyyyy smaller when they haven't fed yet. This one seemed to have just eaten which is why it was so big (also, the younger ones are smaller as well)
I was lying in bed watching this video and when the part about the bedbugs came on, I moved slightly and my pillow brushed my arm and I screamed 😂. Thanks Tim I am also now on high alert 😅
I went on a £9.50 holiday with my parents some years ago and we didn't have any problems. Yes the caravan was basic but if you're desperate for a holiday to have a much needed break which we were, it doesn't matter. Admittedly we didn't have bed bugs, and I can completely understand how upsetting it was and why Tim and his family left.
Bed bug infestation can begin through transfer of a single bug into your home through shared laundry services, residing in hotels and travelling in public transports etc.
My mates and I went to France with The Sun for a quid about 30 years ago. I've never forgotten that momentous trip...it was truly fabulous to travel all the way to rainy Calais from Blackpool...and back...in a single day. Lovely.
I’m so glad I watched this video, as we turned up for our summer holiday on the Isle of Wight (not a Sun holiday) and as soon as I got there a bed bug just walked across the bed! We left straight away and had to wait for a ferry and a long drive home! So glad I knew what it was thanks to this video!!!
When this offer first came out, we knew it was a holiday based on 4 people and it was £9.50 per person. You could have Monday to Friday or Friday to Monday, if memory serves me right. There was never any add ons and, as a single parent, it was a godsend. Me, my mum and my daughter would go to a caravan site for 4 days for less than £50 plus the price of the newspaper. The caravans were always clean, but the bottom line is that we all enjoyed a change of scenery and a break, plus we never met any bed bugs
As a single parent they were the only holiday s I could afford only 2 in 14 years. I knew the £9.50 was based on 4 people sharing. I would do it again. As long as you have the basics that's all you need.
I've been on many Sun holidays, my husband used to work nights so during the school holidays I would take our 3 children for short mon-fri breaks so my husband could sleep in peace during the day. They were excellent value with only one time I made the mistake of booking a pontins one which we didn't manage to stay the entire holiday, the rest were clean and made great memories with the kids.
That's really nice. I was a single Mother. Working. Felt I failed because it was so hard. Always said I would do it better if I had to repeat. Have a grandson. He's so beautiful. Reminds me though how hard parenting is
Phobias are very real whatever they are. They're not to be taken lightly. I love caravans and I' ve never really thought about bed bugs before. I might check the beds out in future! £152 isn't really £9.50 is it? It might still be reasonably cheap but that's never an excuse for uncleanliness!!
In the late 80's I went to Glastonbury Festival. It was a particularly hot summer that year and whilst watching a band people in the crowd were passing out due to the extreme heat. The Police were asked to fly their helicopter over the crowd to cool us down, which they did and it was amazing to be cooled by helicopter. However, on Monday morning, the Sun newspaper went with the story that the crowd was rioting and the Police had to fly their helicopter over the crowd to quell said riot. I was there, that definitely didn't happen and apart from anything else; for those who were there in those days, riots didn't happen 'AT ALL!!!' I haven't bought a Sun newspaper since and to tell the truth I wouldn't wipe my arse on it if truth be told. They are liars and trouble makers and all they care about is selling their lies. Nuff said............
At the age of 60 I have been fortunate to travel a lot, both at home and abroad. I have had three encounters with bed bugs, a few at a hotel in Ibiza and Almeria and a significant infestation at a 4star hotel in Rhodes, the later was so bad my partner an I needed treatment from our GP on our return. I have never encountered BBs on holiday at home both hotel and caravan, so I’m afraid this is a travel hazard you could encounter anywhere. Never had a Sun holiday due to never buying that rag! It does sound like a scam.
Unfortunately, a visitor brought bedbugs into our home. Fortunately they were sleeping on our sofa bed in the sitting room, not in an actual bedroom. However, the preparations for the exterminator were intense.....throughly cleaning, bagging up and removing everything in the room...then several exterminator visits necessitating marking sure out pets were out of the house. A lot of stress and expense later we were free of them, but it's left us all traumatised!
all the comments that moan and say its not a big deal need to understand the mental toll it takes on someone to! the fact they are increasing year on year in the uk is no laughing matter!
@tsukix3734 do you mean the guests? We didn't realise there were bugs for a while, long after they'd gone but luckily before they spread into other areas of the house.
Tim, to ease your phobia on your next hotel stay, take with you a small re-fillable spray bottle that you can go over the bed, pillows, carpets etc. with. Before you leave home, fill the bottle with alcohol from the chemist and 30 drops each of lavender, tea-tree and eucalyptus essential oils which are natural insect repellents. My mum's been doing that for years for hotel stays and never has a problem.
£9.50 holidays used to be fantastic back in the day, been doing them 15+ years on and off. They’re now a lot more expensive though you can still get them for £38, they’re usually off peak beginning of spring/end of autumn. A lot of the time it’s far cheaper to book directly I’ve booked Yarmouth for £49 in October and upgraded for another £30 to a caravan with GCH.
Exactly I’ve got haven silver for £116 Yarmouth in October and booked next year already at £119, the saver vans will be getting phased out eventually as GCH becomes a standard but they’re great for summer weekends
My brother owned a haven caravan. We went year in year out. Haven would rent out his caravan. And they would give him part of the rental fee. But all the hardware. Tv, dvd, kitchen dished, utensils, hoover, bustpan and brush pan and brush etc. Were his bought and paid for. Basically renters brought their own bedding , towels and tea towels. Haven cleaned in-between guest's. We loved going.
A nicer alternative to the rub finger in the carpet pet test is to use a damp cloth and press firmly into the carpet and drag about 12 inches while keeping the pressure applied, this will give you a nice rolled up clump of pet hair if there is any. Its quite amazing as the naked eye can give you the impression its a clean carpet.. but this method will expose the amount of hair hidden below the surface. I must say this video made me itch lol 😂
Tim, you and your family were not wrong to leave when you did. Bedbugs are HORRIFIC... I lived abroad for 12 years, and we got an infestation in our apartment from having our bedding washed in a local launderette and managed to take the horrible things home in what we thought was nice, Clean bedding. Long story short, we ended up needing pest control treatment and everything in our apartment was destroyed. You were absolutely correct to leave your belongings at the holiday site, bedbugs LOVE Clean stuff, and I can tell you from experience you DO NOT want to take bedbugs home with you 😬 Since this experience, I am so wary of hotel accommodation now, and upon arriving home from any break, I actually leave my clothing in the garden until I can get it straight into the washing machine on a good hot wash! 😓
I've had bedbugs before, it's likely I brought them home from the rest room at work - as I worked in British Airways and our shifts had 80 people on them. 500 people using a crew room = bound to get something. Needless to say, started sleeping in my car or driving home on shift. It was two house moves before we fully escaped them, we moved once cleaned our stuff and thought we'd be ok, within 6 months they arrived, within a year. When we moved again, we had all our bedding and clothes absolutely blasted with heat after cleaning, left all plastic on bedding and they were finally gone. But we spent days thoroughly cleaning things and even slept on the floor for a week before ordering the beds to ensure they were gone before we got mattresses. And still for several months I felt crawling on me at night, because the psychological side was still there. It absolutely fucks with your head.
Did a few of these in the UK and Europe. Never had any problems at all, especially in Europe. Even if they aren’t exactly £9.50, they are really cheap. Main issue with these now is that you can’t get any of the deals in school holidays!
I'm with you Tim! That's absolutely grim, I have a huge fear of fleas having lived in an infested house as a kid. It does beg the question, how did they not know before hand? Adult bugs mean they've been there for awhile, surely someone else must have complained? 🤔
It's not good, but I once found bedbugs in a 280 a night room in an incredible hotel (not my usual stay, it was a special trip saved up for a birthday). And although I don't buy the Sun I have been on these trips twice in the last 10 years after being invited by others who do. Both times they were immaculately cleaned, and a decent experience. I wouldn't ever go on this kind of holiday generally though, just not my kind of thing. But as a one off here and there with a couple of friends it was OK.
I don't know how busy these types of camp grounds are in the UK, but even if it had been unoccupied for a week or two, bed bugs can live a LONG time. Just waiting... Creepy, no?!
Bed bugs and fleas aren't something that you can definitely avoid. They can be difficult to spot and notice, sometimes the cheeky ones can stay dormant for months. The problem doesn't necessarily relate to the level of cleanliness, but rather to the amount of people get in contact with the area and favourable conditions in that area, the good places to hide. Obviously carpets, soft and wooden furniture etc. Ideal places are public transport - trains, taxis, buses. Hotels, pubs, sometimes offices. High turnover of people and somewhere to hide.
On some people the bites don't show up until days or a week later, by then, you may have stayed a couple of different places. Bedbugs are very good at hiding.
I just love this channel so much! As an American i find the whole idea of a vacation trailer park really weird! Its great Tim and Gabby try these things so their UK viewers don't have to! Bedbugs are a horror and a lot of US hotels, particularly in big cities like NYC have had infestations.
I think it's because park owners can sardine all the caravans in together really closely and make more money! That's why they're known to be cheap holidays too, you're always atleast 10ft away from someone 😂
Don't knock it 'til you've tried it. I do it most years now (admittedly, not through this particular offer), but they can be brilliant - the good old British weather can be a real deal breaker, depending on where you go.
The better haven ones can be lovely particularly for families they tend to have huge indoor outdoor pools bars and entertainment on the night and normally a decent sized arcades good ones can please both adults and kids and not cost the moon and the stars I'm surprised the states have not adopted the idea
Happened to us in a b&b, my hubby thought I was having a carry on saying I could feel something crawling on me, the first time he put on the light & nothing, the 2nd time he ignored me & in my panic looking for my light I fell out of the bed. I got up, found the light & pulled the covers back - the bed was covered in them crawling. He jumped out quickly. We checked our bodies, clothes & sat in the car all night. I take one of those purple torches with me now to check, I also freak out at the thought of them.
As a Hotel Manager I've had to deal with bed bugs, both times they were actually brought in by guests, it meant sealing the rooms and having them fumigated, all the soft furnishings were destroyed as well including the mattress.
@GunnerRDS Well one common way is that they can be brought in by hotels buying a job lot of mattresses from another hotel that has closed. There's a few ways that don't involve a guest bringing them. Sure sounds like a cop out for a hotel with poor hygiene to me, but hey, I actually have critical thinking skills and an education.
As cabin crew I stay in plenty of 4 and 5 star hotels. Ive had bed bugs in my rooms a few times so they can be anywhere. I always check my room and never put bags or leave clothes or other belongings on "soft surfaces" Bags go on the desk or counter. I wont even use a luggage rack if it has any fabric on it. In addition my bags never come into my house and stay in my garage
I've had some brilliant sun holiday's in lovely locations. Everything time we've had a nice clean caravan on a nice, clean site with good facilities. The caravan we had in Weymouth was very modern and huge. I'd definitely go on more Sun holidays
One of my favourite holidays was a caravan on an entertainment park, when I was little. It was very clean. I think the experience can vary tremendously. I knew it was very expensive and the adults were muttering at the price for a premium caravan.
@D187S T'Gaffer gave me the vouchers and a week off for doing 26 hour days 8 days a week for 3 year straight. We walked from pit took us 2 days to get to Pontins in Southport. When we got there, we were disappointed beyond belief. There were nowt scantily clad ladies on site like in the pictures... 😥
Sorry for your experience, I have stayed at Sun holiday caravan parks for over 20 years and never knowingly experienced a bed bug issue ever. But I have had some great cheap as chips getaway holidays with the Sun holidays. And look forward to doing more all around the UK.
Exactly growing up up to teens and to 20s parents use to do this and sometimes be other family with us it was brilliant we stayed at great locations never had problems
Speaking as a property manager for rentals in Florida for 20 years, that WAS a bed bug. Lift off sheets etc and you can usually find what looks like grains of sand in little clusters, on bottom sheet/ mattress or protector. They do not just live in the bed, they get in all nooks and crannies in furniture and plug sockets etc. they can crawl in suitcase and be transported home or to next accommodation. If anyone is unfortunate enough to get an infestation , don't waste money on pest control. Heat remediation is the only way to kill both the bugs and the eggs.
Bed bugs are the most horrible thing I have ever encountered! I've had to live with bed bugs coming up through the floorboards and down through the ceiling of my flat. At first I didn't know what they were but soon found out, I couldn't understand why they were literally everywhere (on the sofa, on the walls, in lampshades, in the carpet, on the curtains, in shopping bags, in books, etc, etc, etc.) and not confined to the bed. From everything I read it didn't make sense, they are supposed to be localized near the food source (humans) and never stray too far from that. Unless the infestation is so massive that they have no choice but to spread out. But my infestation wasn't massive. I thought I must have brought them in on my suitcase after holiday or on my clothes from the Tube (I live in London). I did everything I could to fight them - interceptor traps on the legs of the bed, bed bug spray everywhere - small spray cans at first, which did nothing, then 5L containers in a pressure sprayer, diatomaceous earth powder, pheromone traps, smoke bombs. Nothing worked. Defeated, I began to feel completely hopeless, the psychological effect began to have its toll, always feeling and thinking you had one crawling on you, biting you, or that you were taking their eggs and nymphs elsewhere or to friends and family. They eventually even found their way into my car. I began to believe the stories about how they are resistant to insecticides, making a comeback, and how they are indestructible. However, everything change the day that I found out they were not my bed bugs but my neighbours. Terraced housing has it flaws in more ways than one! It became clear, I wasn't loosing the fight but more fighting a battle I couldn't win. My neighbour, a suffering paranoid schizophrenic, knew he had a problem but didn't want to let anyone in to deal with the problem. That problem grew to be 4 door numbers wide (two flats to each door), 96, 94, 92, and 90. I lived with that problem, fighting back the tide of bed bugs for nearly two years. Eventually I moved home and hoped that I didn't bring any with me - knowing fine well that I more than likely would. All my possessions taped in bin bags, everything thoroughly inspected when opened, as and when needed, nothing seemed to happen. Was I free from bed bugs - it seemed so. About 6 months in I was bitten. I knew it wasn't a mosquito, it wasn't a flea, it was a bed bug bite. But like a reflex I knew exactly what to look for and where, I found 3 bed bugs and eggs on the underside of my bed slats. A quick blast from the heat gun and spray all round the mattress and they were dead, never to return, It is now 2 years down the line and no bed bugs. Moral of this long winded story is, that you don't need to be worried by bed bugs, they are after all the little tiny insects that they are, they are not indestructible and they definitely can be killed and they have no right over your mental wellbeing! p.s. What you had on film was definitely a bed bug that had freshly feed.
Omg I feel for you .. the issue is when u understand where they hide and like u say how hard they are to get rid of and it dies sound silly but it effects your mental wellbeing as now I'm paranoid as ... and even checking every mattress I still don't sleep
The paranoia is awful and definitely can get a strong hold on you, and checking everything can lead you down a deep rabbit hole. For me I eventually realized that they were still winning (psychologically this time rather than physically). I was also wasting my life spending so much time looking for them, especially when you can look so hard and still miss one. So I stopped looking, not completely though, I will occasionally give a quick once over of a hotel room and try to keep my suitcase up off the floor. It doesn't rule my life anymore and I feel so much better. As for not sleeping I feel like you could get bitten in the night when you stay somewhere new, but you most likely wont. It is not something to loose sleep and quality of life over, don't let them win. If you do get bitten it is not the end of the world, and at least you know exactly what to look for, and do, when you come to leave. Like you did in this case.
I once stayed in a bed bug infested hostel in Malaysia. At that time i just thought it was just like a mosquito bite. But after reading the horror stories of bed bugs online, I totally became paranoid once I returned home. It gave me nightmares for few months.
I love this story. I too always write novels in comments. 😂 I love the way you described it all... You write really well. I was right there with you, feeling defeated and traumatised, my head totally engaged, standing beside you in your flat as it looked in my mind's eye. You drew me completely in, and I now feel some of the paranoid disgust you must have felt. Ugh! I'm so sorry you had to endure that, not just the bugs themselves but your desperate fight that wasn't winning must have felt so demoralising. I've never seen a bedbug personally, but I did once buy a brand new Mexican pine desk from a discount site, selling the same furniture seen in stores, but half the price. It was lovely, brand new as stated, big, really sturdy, no flaws at all. After a month or so, sitting at my desktop computer, arms resting on the desk in between typing, I developed a rash on both wrists. A month or so later I noticed little pinholes appearing on the surface of the wood. And then I saw something crawl out. Like a tiny tiny maggot. Wood worm! Wood worms I discovered, are actually a beetle, the tiny worm like things are the larvae. I found a few beetles dead on my windowsill, and the odd one on the bed or bookcase etc. I'd googled them to death, and discovered that my spreading rash is an allergy....to their spit I believe it said, but don't quote me on that. But they weren't bites is my point, it was a raw itchy weeping rash. By this point I realised why the desk was sold by a discount store! The whole batch of furniture must have been infested. My final "that's it I've had ENOUGH" moment was when I found a beetle just happily strolling across my pillowcase! Within an hour the desk was in the back garden, sprinkled with petrol and set ablaze! Luckily after killing and disposing of the few actual beetles we found, we didn't get anymore after that. We'd obviously killed them before they'd laid eggs on something else. Or they may have laid them on the same desk I guess...? That's possible too, but cremating the desk sorted out those! I was traumatised after it for at least a couple of months. Constantly hoovering, searching, feeling something on me, checking my pillow and scratching my wrists raw! They obviously healed eventually but that rash took some time to completely disappear. I had a handful of beetles, and it drove me nuts with paranoia...I can't even imagine the horror, of seeing the little bastards casually crawling down your walls in a crowd.... I don't know how you weren't insane after two whole years of it. My God! Beautifully written story, but what a horrendous experience for you. 😘😘😘
Wow! What a story! Glad everything worked out. I could imagine your fear of moving with your stuff and then actually finding them! Good job tho! Whew ...
I used the 9.50 vouchers in a holiday park in the isle of wight about 15 years ago, can't remember how much I ended up paying but it was more, what I can remember as it annoys me to this day is my friend and his gf wanted to come as well so they rang up the park directly and got there holiday cheaper than our deal 😂
Your anxiety is totally justified, Tim. I know how that feels! I use pure essential oils when travelling, like lavender, eucalyptus and tea tree or a combination of all three, diluted in a small amount of water or vodka in a small spray bottle, and I spray the room and bed before sleeping in it. Any lurking critters including mozzies HATE it! You can use it on yourself too, to keep them away or to soothe any bites you may get. They smell good, and the lavender helps to ease anxiety. But don't let this incident play on your mind too much. Think of all the number of places you've stayed in and not encountered any bugs! Thanks Tim, Gaby and Casper, hope you're over that nasty little encounter.
That is an excellent idea. Never thought of the essential oils. I used to stay in a Birmingham hotel almost weekly for my university studies and next morning i felt something crawling in my long hair- I pulled it out and there it was looking at me🤮squashed it straightaway! Scrubbed myself when I got home and washed everything at 90°. Tim. I'm so sorry that you had to go through this, I too am paranoid about bed bugs. I sleep on top of the bed in hotels always now. Poor Caspar being bitten all over, bless him. X
It's not just having to buy The Sun that puts me off but having to spend time with people who buy The Sun. I encountered a person in Spain complaining the staff in our hotel weren't English. In Spain. I cannot do that again.
As a Liverpool FC supporter, there is no way I would go on a S*n holiday. I stopped reading this paper immediately following the Hillsborough disaster. I haven't bought it since and I never will. Also, I'm sorry you had such a traumatic experience.
@@philipmalone1400 for your information, it was a paper that was around pre Hillsborough in our house. I was only young when Hillsborough happened and it has never been over the door since. Im sure lots of people who no longer buy/read it may have done so pre Hillsborough. Not that its any of your business, so keep your nose out!!!
Absolutely right. The Sun paper seems like such a massive anachronism that I can’t even believe is even still bought today. Evolution is slow it seems 😂
Tim and Gaby, please don't be put off. Think about the amount of stays you've had over the years in all sorts of places. I was a salesman for 29 years and had to stay in some questionable places. I never experienced bed bugs. We love you both and don't want you having anxiety about things. You need to carry on producing lovely videos for us all. Try and not let your thoughts run away with you. You bring such wonderfulness to the world. Much love Si and Share xxx
Share not Shane ,unless there's something she's not telling me🤣 don't over think everything Tim. Stay calm and keep making fantastic videos. Take care , much love Si and Share xxx
I'm with you Tim I'd be beside myself if I encountered any of those critters. We're in our seventies when we first got married my wife worked in a laundry a couple of times she brought home one of their cousins a flea, that freaked us out. So I know where you're coming from especially with the little man running around.
When we've used the sun holidays we went to a place in skegness, great yarmouth and near bognor regis. The accommodation is £9.50 but we always got the entertainment passes which could cost £12 - £25 each. They are pretty essential if you want evening entertainment and to use the clubhouse at a certain time onwards. All places we stayed were very good but the best one we did was a place called bunn leisure. We had a bronze caravan but they might have replaced / redecorated them as it was modern and a lot nicer.
Having a phobia isn't childish, I think you're being too hard on yourself! You did the right thing in the circumstances . When my boys were little in the late 90's and early 00's we often had a Sun Holiday. I remember you could choose 4 sites and four dates, you didn't know what you were going to get until it arrived in the post. Our first one in 1997 was at a wonderful site in Selsey Bill and the caravan was brand new, a wonderful experience..the last time we went was in 2002 to a caravan at a Haven site in Blackpool, not our first time at this site but unfortunately on this occasion the caravan was filthy. Hair in the shower, washing up in the sink..They moved us to another one but the damage was done to our holiday and we left after a couple of days. Couldn't relax. That was our last Sun Holiday...
Thank you .. had some comments on here saying its nothing lol I had a freind who had a massive issue and it effectively ruined her life for a year trying to get rid of them
Yikes, really feel for you all. And Tim, as you do this for a living I really hope somehow your anxiety levels come down. Makes your videos even more meaningful knowing your struggles. We appreciate all your (and Gabby) hard work 👍
I live in a block of flats and when someone moved out they found the flat had bed bugs. Housing association brought in a bed bug sniffer dog to check the whole building. Never knew a bed bug sniffer dog existed (luckily they were contained to the one flat, and I’ve not been bitten since). Went on a sun holiday when it first came out and that really was a very basic caravan.
We help train sniffer dogs to sniff out bed bugs. The big hotels use them. It's amazing how they do it. The bed bugs are tiny. They kerp them in a tube. But that was a full grown one. Yuk. Poor Tim
I clean carpets and ovens for a living and I do a lot of work along the norfolk coast. Some of the houses i visit cost 12 grand a week in August and some of them are horrendous, I went to a holiday let in Burnham market to clean all the carpets because a family had arrived for their very expensive holiday and after taking a look around decided that it wasn't fit for a dog so the owner had to give a full refund and arrange alternative accommodation at short notice which must've cost a fortune. In contrast I also regularly do work in places less salubrious that cost 5 or 6 hundred quid a week and there isn't a speck of dust anywhere. I have also had to fumigate rooms in some of the most expensive hotels in norfolk because they have bed bugs. The bed bugs have no idea how much you've paid for your holiday so don't assume that they're only there because it was cheap.
When the sun 1st started doing £9-50 hols they were as the price said as my late parents used to go, but as they got popular over the years they gradually introduced extra payment for certain stuff !
@walkwithmetim You and Gabby make a great team with these videos. Keep going with them Tim. Don't blame you for leaving straight away especially if you had bites as well.
Hi Tim. Not been on a £9.50p Sun holiday in very long time, amazed still same price. We initially booked one then upgraded for whole week and got a fabulous new in that year luxury van at lovely spot in North Cornwall, no dogs ! Had brilliant holiday, on down side, wife's mobile mum and dad had smaller one that took pets and it was dreadful. They swopped for another van which was not much better and headed home the next morning. Even their lassie dog was uncomfortable! Conclusion if one goes on such holiday, upgrade to a pet free van ! You certainty diversify with the quality of various locations you stay Always a joy to watch, better entertainment some the dross on TV.
I worked for a caravan site for several years and I would say the carpet is the least of your problems. Take a u.v. light with you next time and check the toilet and mattresses and the linen if supplied, YUK! Puke!.
They are. We stayed in a bungalow on a holiday park in Lincolnshire and discovered ants. We got some repellant which worked and worn't troubled again. I say don't let stuff like that put you off.
Thanks for another great video Tim! Really sorry you had such a bad experience. It’s horrible when something gives you such high anxiety whatever the cause. I hope you are ok ❤
Hi Guys, I would strongly suggest getting some Ardap, standard and green. We use it when ever we go away both in UK and abroad. It kills everything living on or around any surface, bedding etc. You can also spray it safely on surfaces and will stop any bugs coming into your space. Great video as usual, nice to see more of the family vids. The Cornish Family
You absolutely did the right thing getting out of that caravan, especially with a young child! Bed bugs are awful! I have a severe reaction to the bites as I’ve dealt with them in the past ☹️Well done for highlighting this! 👍
I once stayed in a cheap hotel in Paris. It had a reasonably good review although I later discovered someone had been bitten by bed bugs. I turned the bed upside down before getting in, confident in the fact there were no bugs. The following morning, no bites, and I breathed a sigh of relief. Three days later my arms were covered in itchy bites. It can take a few days before they appear. My biggest worry was whether I'd brought any home with me. Fortunately I kept all clothes away from the bed. It's a nasty shock and I can appreciate what you went through. Worth mentioning as well... hotels (and caravans) are only as clean as the people who stayed in them before you.
Omg I check the beds now so you didn't find anything they can be small and could be also in furniture and carpets.. I might be wrong but as the mattress looked new I'm confused maybe from the carpets or other bedrooms
@@WalkWithMeTim Hi Tim, it is likely that they will be near the head end of the bed. Possibly in the bed frame, in the seams under the carpet edge, in an electrical socket etc. I have a fear of them too after waking up in a hotel in Manchester with them 11 years ago. Since then whenever I stay away I worry, and I have to stay away for work. Use a flash light when checking, and look for black spots, like ink from a pen. I also have bed bug passive monitors in my house, as I freak out that I may bring them home. The passive monitors do help my anxiety, however, I just wish I still thought they weren't real and just something you said before bed. Your experience was a tough one given you had your little one with you. I think my only surprise from watching your videos is that you have not come across them more often, given some of the places you stay. However, you can get them in high end places too. The unhoovered carpet was a possible indication that bed bugs were more likely here. Hoovering is one of the recommended ways to avoid bed bugs. I would love to see hotels and holiday parks meet this issue head on. They need better cleaning protocols in bedrooms, they need to train staff properly to check for signs, they should install monitors on all bed which should be checked by cleaning staff. Feels like these places still operate in the dark ages, and put profit before dealing with this issue. What they should know is by not being proactive their profits will take a massive hit. A video on how to do a bed bug search would be useful for your viewers. Also, tips on what not to do on holiday eg placing suitcases on beds etc.
When I was a kid, I remember going on a £6.50 holiday to Norwich in November 1999. I was probably only 7 or 8 years old at the time. We don't speak about that 'holiday' to this day. My parents genuinely pretend that it never even happened. I remember it raining profusely every day, it was freezing cold too with no heaters or anything and the caravan was a dilapidated, dirty wreck. Cupboards missing, wallpaper peeling off, stains on every surface and a horrible musty smell. I'm pretty sure we came home 4 days into the 7 day 'holiday'.
Gaby and Casper are adorable! You're much more fun and open when you're with your family. I can see you have more fun. Would love to see them more often in your videos.
omg what an horrendous experience for you all, especially you Tim.😢I never really thought about bed bugs before being in these places, but from now on I will be checking every time. please don't let it put you off making the videos though, and remember 99% of places will be fine.
I work in hospitality and even if I find bedbugs in a room I'm doing maintenance in I won't even bring the clothes I'm wearing home with out either them going in the CINTAS bin or stopping at a 24 7 laundry mat. I'm sorry for your and your family Tim. I'd rather have the haunted room over bedbugs.
Unfortunately washing linen/garments is ineffective and won't kill the eggs. It's heat that kills them therefore a tumble dryer on a high setting does the trick. Incidentally, the same is true for general treatment of an infestation. Due to over use, these critters are largely immune to the modern pesticides and larger infestations require heat treatment to eradicate them completely. And it's very expensive.
This was funny , it reminded me of the Amityville horror movie where the couple leave the house in the middle of the night to avoid a demon , but you and Gabby leave to avoid a demon bedbug 😂😂😂
I once stayed in the USA and was forced to sleep alone in an old house that backed onto woodland. That was scary enough, with wild animals scratching at the wall outside. I couldn't get to sleep and when I opened my eyes there was a HUGE cockroach laying on the pillow next to my face. I swear he was laughing at me and I've never moved so fast in my life. So I understand your reaction to bedbugs! A lot smaller than a cockroach but sometimes the smaller insects are the worst.
@@WalkWithMeTim The first time I saw one fly, it freaked me out! lived in an old house in Greece for about 6 months, there were lots of cockroaches. Nice place though!
Hi guy's, I worked local government as a pest control officer for 13 year's and yes definitely a bed bug and yes your right there will have been loads that you couldn't see, the come out at night because when we sleep we are breathing out carbon dioxide at that is what brings them out at night, very often they will pop out during the day but obviously not as much, the our a pest controller nightmare as they are so hard to get rid of often needing 2 to 3 visits of treatment, the only real way off trying to get rid of them yourself is to put all the bedding in the freezer for 24 hour while you wait for a pest controller.
This reminds me of SPIRIT AIRLINE in the States. Tickets are fairly cheap but with all the "hidden" costs, it all adds up to any other airline and it's terrible service.
Oh that made me shudder! I’d have got our there so quickly! Although you say it’s not the holiday parks fault, it really is. It’s there responsibility to make sure the accommodation is clean and fit for use. There really isn’t anyone else to blame.
When I stayed in a room in Cambodia, I made a point of lining my bed with talcum powder- a little wall of talcum powder and that did pretty well keeping ants and bedbugs out (which are notorious across pretty much all of SE Asia…)
This one will be an interesting watch. Our first caravan holiday about 5 yrs ago was a Sun holiday. Cheap and cheerful. We got a great van and great site, which we went back to last year. However, once you start adding everything on, it turns out not to be all that much cheaper than booking direct. So every year, we book direct, usually with Park Dean, though we've used Haven for this years break. Booking directly gives more flexibility.
In have to say we went Havens last year and must admit they've really improved on theirs! We quite like swapping between the two now! All comes down to best prices and what we fancy!
Yep thanks jake 👍
Get a pet cockroach "since cockroaches eat bedbugs" according to Wikipedia 🤔
100% it's a bedbug, I thought I found one in my house, it turned out to be a carpet beetle, I can't tell you the stress and research I did on the nasty little mites, I drove myself insane even when I'd be been told by several experts it wasn't. I am super careful when we come home from any hotel, bags stay outside until I'm ready to wash all the clothes, what we are wearing goes directly in the washer, cases are kept in the shed. For anyone who gets them indoors it can take multiple treatments to get rid of them and intense cleaning twice a day at least. If you travel by tube or bus stand up where possible
Also they do look like beetles to be fair and yes that’s a juicy bedbug hahaha had it’s fill haha
Anyone else itchy lol
I can't bring myself to buy one Sun newspaper, never mind several, to get a cheap holiday. They've ruined far too many people's lives with their lies. Persisting in selling a £152 holiday (full of bed-bugs no less) and claiming it costs £9.50 is completely on-brand.
Disgusting newspaper can't believe people buy that trash
I was thinking the exact same thing, you need to actually buy the sun, eeww.
Well said
The scum is left on the shelf. You can find better bargain holidays & without bedbugs.
What paper do you read?
"A 'Sun' holiday will not have come with toilet rolls. "
Why would it? When you've got six copies of "The Sun" ?

I used to work for the company that owns premier inn, they do monthly bed bug checks, they have a team go in with sniffer dogs and check every room. They're actually really on top of it as a company.
BUT I don't think they do that in every hotel because I've seen stores from premier inns that have been infested
nothing wrong with the caravans mate. we go every year either haggy or berwick. Just somewhere to put your head down on a night. good fun. just soft southerners complaining.

It’s not stupid to be scared of bed bugs, take them home and it can cost thousands of pounds to remove them from your house. It’s not an irrational fear!
A phobia is an irrational fear, so if disliking bed bugs is not an irrational for then you can't have a phobia of it
People also ask
What is the definition of a phobia?
Listen to pronunciation. (FOH-bee-uh) An extreme, irrational, fear of something that may cause a person to panic.
you soft southern softie. its a tiny bed bug you puff
Not to mention the allergies they can cause and the diseases they can transmit.

Tbh you can get bed bugs in ultra clean places

Bedbugs aren't just on beds and material covered items. They will also get into grooves of furniture (like the corners of a bed frame) so you really should inspect EVERYTHING. As you enter start looking at the couch cushions, hems of curtains, etc.
When he said it was a new looking mattress, my first thought was they've probably replaced it as the old was infested, but the bugs were also in the bed frame.
not only that they're in the walls and in the floor.
Sounds like you made the right choice by doing the locum-motion out of there 🕺💃
locum?
Hi Tim, I suffered from an infestation of bed bugs in my parents house about 10 years ago. It lasted for months and resulted in throwing away a lot of things, books, clothes, mattresses, even stripping if our carpet and getting floorboards! It affected me so much I completely failed one year at university. Since then I’ve been so paranoid when I travel or if I get itchy or feel like something is crawling on me in bed. So sorry you experience this but I can HIGHLY relate to this anxiety you have. I have two kids now so I also get paranoid when they get bites or rashes! Never ending trauma!
Great video overall!
thats crazy i had such a similar experience!! Failed uni for a year too from it it's so so so traumatizing
Try some CBT or have a look at NLP, meditation or hypnosis?
I was only thinking I needed a cheap getaway not too far I actually looked at the Sun holidays but this has put me right off lol ...hope you are all okay x
this can happen anywhere and im sure loads of people have great bug free holidays
I was expecting them to be tiny.
that was like me a few years ago so imagine how now I feel finding one .. arrrahhhhh
soft puff
I don't want to spike your anxiety but they're wayyyyy smaller when they haven't fed yet. This one seemed to have just eaten which is why it was so big (also, the younger ones are smaller as well)
I was lying in bed watching this video and when the part about the bedbugs came on, I moved slightly and my pillow brushed my arm and I screamed 😂. Thanks Tim I am also now on high alert 😅
Me as well. HAHAHAHA
I had a similar experience, years ago. A welcome cheap break, with no bed bugs.
We stayed in a Spanish hotel and were eaten alive by bed bugs! Like you I too have been paranoid since.
That's really nice. I was a single Mother. Working. Felt I failed because it was so hard. Always said I would do it better if I had to repeat. Have a grandson. He's so beautiful. Reminds me though how hard parenting is

I was there, that definitely didn't happen and apart from anything else; for those who were there in those days, riots didn't happen 'AT ALL!!!'
I haven't bought a Sun newspaper since and to tell the truth I wouldn't wipe my arse on it if truth be told.
Did you kick them out? Plz answer
@tsukix3734 do you mean the guests? We didn't realise there were bugs for a while, long after they'd gone but luckily before they spread into other areas of the house.
Oh dear, I hope you don’t invite them to stay again 🥴
Tim, to ease your phobia on your next hotel stay, take with you a small re-fillable spray bottle that you can go over the bed, pillows, carpets etc. with. Before you leave home, fill the bottle with alcohol from the chemist and 30 drops each of lavender, tea-tree and eucalyptus essential oils which are natural insect repellents. My mum's been doing that for years for hotel stays and never has a problem.
Noted!
Lavender mosquitos hate this too
ABSOLUTELY ! BUDS will stay away they hate those essential oils !!!
That would make me allergic to everything it's sprayed on. 😬
Don't use essential oils, they're placebo. Get some pesticides, or stop being a travel vlogger where you constantly face the risk of bedbugs.
Even if the holiday was completely FREE I wouldn't touch a Sun newspaper to get it.
My parents use to do this all year round when I was a kid going into teens we never had problems they were great fun

With all due respect those holidays sound depressing. Be having holiday blues about being there instead of when you get back 😂
Upgraded from what? A tent?
Exactly I’ve got haven silver for £116 Yarmouth in October and booked next year already at £119, the saver vans will be getting phased out eventually as GCH becomes a standard but they’re great for summer weekends
@@Emira_75not really. They are great holidays. Touring the uk is great thing to do.
As a Norvician, I'm truly sorry that you had to experience the pure horror of holidaying in Great Yarmouth.
I've had some amazing holidays at caravan parks over the years and a few horrible one's!
Don't knock it 'til you've tried it. I do it most years now (admittedly, not through this particular offer), but they can be brilliant - the good old British weather can be a real deal breaker, depending on where you go.
The better haven ones can be lovely particularly for families they tend to have huge indoor outdoor pools bars and entertainment on the night and normally a decent sized arcades good ones can please both adults and kids and not cost the moon and the stars I'm surprised the states have not adopted the idea
its all about family stays
I wouldn't tell Tim that 😂
How did you find out the guest brought them in ?
@@booshting3520 How else would they have appeared in the room? Teleportation? Spontaneous arrival? Immaculate conception?
@GunnerRDS Well one common way is that they can be brought in by hotels buying a job lot of mattresses from another hotel that has closed. There's a few ways that don't involve a guest bringing them. Sure sounds like a cop out for a hotel with poor hygiene to me, but hey, I actually have critical thinking skills and an education.
Good on you for dealing with it probably
As cabin crew I stay in plenty of 4 and 5 star hotels. Ive had bed bugs in my rooms a few times so they can be anywhere. I always check my room and never put bags or leave clothes or other belongings on "soft surfaces" Bags go on the desk or counter. I wont even use a luggage rack if it has any fabric on it. In addition my bags never come into my house and stay in my garage
Omg wow
I've had some brilliant sun holiday's in lovely locations. Everything time we've had a nice clean caravan on a nice, clean site with good facilities. The caravan we had in Weymouth was very modern and huge. I'd definitely go on more Sun holidays
One of my favourite holidays was a caravan on an entertainment park, when I was little. It was very clean. I think the experience can vary tremendously. I knew it was very expensive and the adults were muttering at the price for a premium caravan.
I like the way Tim measures everything in how many people you can get in/on something! 😂
Usually the shower 😂
Hoot! Didn't realise. I'll look out for it. There's a radio host in NZ who reviews albums on how many minutes each song is. Odd
He’s a swinger so it makes sense 😂
Luxury! When I was a lad, we went on £2.99 Sunday Sport holidays...
@@danthemaninfierno how could you if you were down the mines for 26 hours a day?

When we got there, we were disappointed beyond belief. There were nowt scantily clad ladies on site like in the pictures... 😥
The Sun is a force for evil in this world, genuinely. I'm not surprised this ended badly
I mean, the Sun dont run the parks pmsl
My parents use to do this all year round when I was a kid going into teens we never had problems they were great fun
@@wyterabitt2149The sun do however tell lies. I call them the scum.
Bed bugs normally read the Mirror, especially when Piers Morgan was editor as it gave them something more irritating than them to feel good about.
The Mirror is worse.

I love the way you described it all...

I know thank you I keep telling my self that .. but doesn't help lol
Yes I think you’re trusting the oils too much. It’s been proven you can dump the oil on them and they still don’t die. 🤮
It's not just having to buy The Sun that puts me off but having to spend time with people who buy The Sun. I encountered a person in Spain complaining the staff in our hotel weren't English. In Spain. I cannot do that again.

I'm with you Tim I'd be beside myself if I encountered any of those critters. We're in our seventies when we first got married my wife worked in a laundry a couple of times she brought home one of their cousins a flea, that freaked us out. So I know where you're coming from especially with the little man running around.
Bed bugs can get in anywhere.
The amount of international travel nowadays means that many are "jet-setters."
Thank you .. had some comments on here saying its nothing lol I had a freind who had a massive issue and it effectively ruined her life for a year trying to get rid of them
don’t buy the sun
You can get the holiday for the same price by booking direct with the provider. That way you get more control of where you're sited etc.
We did one of these to Camber Sands. Bloody hell, 15 years later we're still trying to forget Chav-by-Sea and all the horrors.
Why? What was so bad?
Yikes, really feel for you all. And Tim, as you do this for a living I really hope somehow
your anxiety levels come down. Makes your videos even more meaningful knowing your struggles. We appreciate all your (and Gabby) hard work 👍
Thank you
However, the main downside is that you have to buy The Sun.
U can find all the codes online instead
Wow
Watching this straight after the Burj Al Arab tour made me realise with pure crystal clear clarity. Money CAN buy happiness.
Lol

You have my full empathy Tim. I had to ff as I have anxiety like you about bedbugs and was starting to feel it.
thanks
I’ve be on at least 10 sun holidays with my kids and never had a problem !
these holidays clearly aren't for marks and spencer shopping middle class types, who freak out if they think they see a bug
I worked for a caravan site for several years and I would say the carpet is the least of your problems. Take a u.v. light with you next time and check the toilet and mattresses and the linen if supplied, YUK! Puke!.
That must have been horrible finding a bed bug crawling around! As for ants, they're not nice but are a common problem even in houses.
They are. We stayed in a bungalow on a holiday park in Lincolnshire and discovered ants. We got some repellant which worked and worn't troubled again. I say don't let stuff like that put you off.
Ants whilst not pleasant they are actually incredibly clean. Bed Bugs on the other hand, yuck.
Thanks for another great video Tim! Really sorry you had such a bad experience. It’s horrible when something gives you such high anxiety whatever the cause. I hope you are ok ❤
that thing was huge - I never knew they were that big, I thought that you'd need a magnifying to see them...
I thought nothing kills them apart from this powder stuff
@WalkWithMeTim genuinely, kills everything and safe on surfaces. Discovered in Germany many years ago and now on Amazon.
Is it safe for kids ? Am very wary of sprays..
You absolutely did the right thing getting out of that caravan, especially with a young child! Bed bugs are awful! I have a severe reaction to the bites as I’ve dealt with them in the past ☹️Well done for highlighting this! 👍
What an adorable little poppet your boy is… just delightful guys
Sounds like a typical sun holiday 😂 I've been on a few horrible holidays in the UK
Well there are no caravan parks in Norwich so your parents are probably right.
Yet here you are still commenting about it now 😂
Sounds about right
Gaby and Casper are adorable!
Nice view at that containers! I would never book a holiday in such a park
Your reaction to Gabby's comment 'It's like eating on an aircraft' got a good laugh out of me 😂
Totally sympathise about the bedbugs situation, it’s the stuff of nightmares
Omg there are bad .. specially when they fly!

Hi guy's, I worked local government as a pest control officer for 13 year's and yes definitely a bed bug and yes your right there will have been loads that you couldn't see, the come out at night because when we sleep we are breathing out carbon dioxide at that is what brings them out at night, very often they will pop out during the day but obviously not as much, the our a pest controller nightmare as they are so hard to get rid of often needing 2 to 3 visits of treatment, the only real way off trying to get rid of them yourself is to put all the bedding in the freezer for 24 hour while you wait for a pest controller.
love the view of the bins.
11:57 anyone else notice she says it's rude to eat with your mouthful? 🤣🤣 Mistake made
Nice red dustbin view from the living room 👍
Bring a spray bottle with isopropyl alcohol (rubbing alcohol) spray the bed and the floor.
And some hand sanitizer
